This is what seems like the main drag here in Waikiki. Shops from Louis Vuitton, to Harry Winston to Urban Outfitter and an ABC store seemingly on every block of this strip. There are shopping malls and plazas and centers smattered along this strip. Definitely the street to be to grab some bites or pluck down some cash on whatever items.

Bright and early with Mayor Kirk Caldwell at the Inaugural "Kalakaua Merrie Mile"!

What? A Yelp Check-In for Kalakaua Ave? Yes, indeed, my friend. I came across the check-in when looking for the official check-in's for various festivals held on the famed street in Waikiki. There were none to be found and now the rest is history. I'm officially a regular at Kalakaua Ave! ;-) Kalakaua Ave is one of my go-to locations for several reasons: 1) To get my FitBit on by walking approximately 3 miles roundtrip. It's a flat course. I feel safe. The shops are open late. It's well lit. There's always some form of entertainment (I shriek every time I walk by the silver cowboy though - he fires off his silly pistol). Clean restrooms at the hotels & resorts, and a decent number of eateries. Right now, my favorite eating spot is Yokocho Japanese Gourmet Food Alley located at the basement level of Waikiki Shopping Plaza. 2) A full-range of shopping is available for locals and tourists, alike. From Tiffany & Co at one end of the Ave, to Urban Outfitters at the other, and International Market Place and Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center in the middle of it all - it's so convenient! OBTW, I found out that the Gucci store offers special Hawaii pricing on handbags - a 14% discount! It's true - I have compared pricing! 3) The beach is RIGHT THERE! Obviously, the best time to hit the beach is during the day, but on Friday nights, there's a fireworks display at 7:00pm! So much fun to watch, especially if you have visitors from out-of-town. 4) Festivals throughout the year! A few of my favorites are: a) Waikiki SPAM® Jam Festival in April! The event benefits the Hawaii Food Bank and includes local entertainment, SPAM themed dishes created by some of Honolulu's finest restaurants, and SPAM themed accessories like Hello Kitty SPAM musubi making kits and t-shirts. You might even be able to meet the SPAM mascot! b) Aloha Festivals is a month-long celebration of Hawaiian music, dance, and history and is held in September. Highlights of the event that are held on Kalakaua Ave include the Waikiki Hoolaulea, Hawaii's largest annual block party featuring local food, music, and entertainment, as well as the finale of Aloha Festivals, the Annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade. c) The Annual Kalakaua Merrie Mile, named after King David Laamea Kamananakapu Mahinulani Naloiaehuokalani Lumialani Kalākaua, aka "The Merrie Monarch." He was the last king of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The First Annual Merrie Mile was held on December 10, 2016 to kick off the Honolulu Marathon on December 11, 2016. It included Elite Runners (not Yelpers hehe) from the US Olympic team showing off their amazing 1-Mile running skills. Sign up early to earn your medal and t-shirt! If you find yourself hanging out on Kalakaua Ave, be sure to look down to brush up on your Hawaiian vocabulary! On every corner, the flagstone has key Hawaiian words and their definition etched into the tile. Very unique and just all around awesome. But, where can I park without having to pay an arm and a leg? There's free parking at Kapiolani Park, metered parking at Honolulu Zoo, $7 flat rate (after 6pm) parking near at Waikiki Shopping Plaza, 1-hour free parking with validation at International Shopping Center or Royal Hawaiian, or Fort DeRussy parking lot near Trump plaza. #luckywelivehawaii

The shop itself is charming, and the team was exceptionally polite and genuinely friendly. Their merchandise is creative and thoughtfully curated, with a nice variety of unique items that made browsing really fun. Prices felt reasonable for the quality and originality you're getting. What I loved most was the positive energy throughout the store. One of the employees shared a sweet piece of advice that stuck with me: "Believe me, my friend. when you're my age, you'll do everything you can to make your day and truly enjoy it." Moments like that make a place memorable. Definitely a feel good stop at International Market Place . I'd happily return.

Interesting that service is different for different people…read more Went to the Ala Moana location today. The person at the register, an older gentleman, spent a considerable amount of time with a Japanese couple, purchasing items. He wrapped, taped, and carefully put items in a bag for them, and handed them their purchase. My turn, maybe it's because I'm in my tshirt and shorts, just a local ol' lady. He rings me up, tapes the plastic bag the item comes in off the shelf, and hands it to me. I didn't get asked if I needed a bag, as it is a gift I'm taking to Japan. I ask if he has a bag of sorts I can put that in? He asks, "such as?". I say, a small bag of sorts? He says, "well we have this brown paper bag, if you want?". Picks up a brown bag from behind the counter. I was done. I said no thanks. And walked away. Why such a difference in service? Maybe I needed to dress better, I'm not sure. I was a bit offended. Products are super cute, this was only my second time here.. I guess it'll be my last as well. So sad. By the way, my husband and I went to Kahala store yesterday, we bought something there. We thought the service was wonderful, the lady helping us was welcoming and helpful. Ala Moana, felt a bit discriminating.
