I was here in Hawaii for a memorial service, and I needed to get an aloha shirt. Something nice and simple that said "aloha", without screaming AAAA-LOOOOOOO-HAAAAA!!! The day before the service, I was doing my usual drive around the island, which I like to do whenever I visit. I decided to stop for a break. I came into the store, which is like in a little trailer, and the lady who helped me was very friendly. We chatted a little bit, she was originally from Northern California, up the road a bit from where I live. So we chatted for a couple of minutes. They have things such as T-shirts, hats, souvenir, stuff, and yes, aloha shirts. It is a locally owned store. I was looking around, and the very first aloha shirt, I looked at, it was perfect. It was a local design, it was a nice and simple design, they had it in my size, and , the price was very reasonable. I bought it in a heartbeat. I brought it back to my hotel, and as I knew it would, it went perfectly with the slacks that I was wearing for the memorial service. Finding this shirt so quick really really took a load off. Parking is free and there are bathrooms, but they will only give the code to paying customers. My only issue is sometimes the parking and the exit get clogged from the stop lights. Other than that, it's a great place to get groceries, crack seed snacks and a quick bite to eat. You have Kapolei Family Medical center and Diagnostic Labs located here. There is also a credit union, food eateries, smoke shop and Fun Factory for the kids to enjoy. A must try is Ono Steak and Shrimp. They are a steak and shrimp place BUT their garlic shrimp is so good! Them sauce is a bit thicker and full of flavor. Another staple would be Koa Pancake house. No explanation needed for this place! A little more shops and this side may be as bustling as its neighbor center. Kapolei continues to grow and I can't wait to see what new shops will join this growing area.

They partner with local artists to create some very unique designs and everything is made with great care and high quality. I think my favorite part about this store is that you can customize your own frame. You first select the base size, then pick the frame and you can select additional wooden elements for decoration. They turn out very cute and I think it makes it a very memorable souvenir. Besides the frames, they also have amazing art pieces and smaller gift items like magnets and coasters. They also have a very nice selection of Christmas ornaments which I think are way better than the ones they sell at the Christmas stores in Waikiki. If you want a unique and high quality souvenir from your time in Oahu. I definitely recommend checking out this store!

Getting the Tour…read more.. Who knew that this was the name of the building although it's been planted on the side ever since lol! Well it's home to of course La Tour Cafe and just recently La Tour Bakehouse also have many favorites like Tanaka Saimin, 7-Eleven, Party City, Bangkok Chef just to name a few. Getting there is easier than parking if you don't know, when you drive up just go straight down behind the building which will take you around to the front as the parking is one way so if you want to park closer to a specific biz this would be the way or just park beside the building near 7-eleven though most of the stalls are reserved and can fill up easily sometimes. Great variety of biz here whether if you're planning a party, or just hungry with lots of free parking makes it a great place to explore and take care of those cravings. Thank you!

Next to Bangkok Chef is a keyed entrance to upstairs office buildings - the property management office, physical therapy office, etc. Parking is problematic. Lunch hours: lot is full. Entrance is from Alakawa Street...busy. Exit is from Alakawa or Nimitz Highway...busy. When you enter from Alakawa if there aren't any open stalls you can't enter the main area with stalls at storefronts...you have to turn left at 7-11, on the ewa corner of the plaza. Also, exit only on the Lowes - Diamond Head end - but drivers periodically disregard the "Do Not Enter" sign.

Ward Gateway Center, on the corner of Ward Avenue and Auahi Street, has free parking and a great variety of stores and restaurants. Besides Starbucks, Bale, Korean BBQ Express, and Jamba Juice (too bad Ross has closed down... and Wahoo's Fish Taco), this is the home of Ohana Hale Marketplace. This venue used to be Sports Authority... and before that, it used to be GEM... back in the day... I can't say enough good things about Ohana Hale Marketplace. It provides a great start for many small businesses. It's like an indoor swap meet! The variety of cuisines (Japanese, Mexican, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Filipino, Italian, etc.) and local vendors is astonishing! There are many gift items and handmade crafts waiting to be discovered!

Just be sure to mind your time because you will get a ticket. I have learned my lesson and have never received a ticket ever again. I am grateful for public bathroom access here. You just need to ask one of the stores for the bathroom code. I like to think of this station as a great pit stop shop for my travels. I'm always driving around this island and Ko Olina is just one of my stops. I'm glad this Ko Olina Station is here. It's not just for tourists, it's a place where everyone can enjoy. I genuinely enjoy being here for hours. Whether it's to go to Starbucks for coffee, to sit down and listen to some music in front of Monkey Pod, get a snack or a meal from Island Country Markets, visit my favorite shop: SoHa Living, there is something for someone here.

This is one of my favorite places to just window shop. They have really fun, coastal and local vibe home decor and lifestyle finds. I've eaten at Kono's although I am not primarily a pork person so I would not personally go back here. Some places to visit would be the Aloha General Store where you'll find Island-inspired gifts, clothing, home décor, shave ice, and souvenirs. Aloha Vintage Vibes is where you will find vintage Hawaiian apparel, retro finds, and unique gifts. Northshore Boardriders Club is where I found a really cute bracelet here that allows you to track your own sea life! You'll also find surf apparel, boards, accessories, and local North Shore merchandise. Polynesian Treasures is neat. You get to browse through Hawaiian-made gifts, wood carvings, jewelry, and island crafts. I Am Paradise is a Pearl Shop. You will find Hawaiian pearl jewelry and handcrafted pieces. I have not yet entered this establishment yet. I think I'm intimidated by the possible price point of real Hawaiian pearls. Silver Moon Emporium is where you can shop for Women's fashion, accessories, and boutique clothing. I wish there were more plus size options. Tini Manini, I haven't been to this one yet but you'll be able to find Children's clothing, toys, and gifts here. Waimea Blue North Shore Art Gallery is where you can shop for original local artwork, photography, and prints. There are also several dining options which include: Banzai Sushi Bar, Cholo's Homestyle Mexican, Kono's, Maya's Tapas & Wine, IL Gelato Cafe (Love this place!), and The Fixx Haleiwa. I have yet to try them all but even more reason to come back to take a trip over to the North Shore.

Hungry...no problem, thirsty...got it here even some thing to cool you down after a long day at the beach North Shore Marketplace is filled with various shops to rest and shop for lots of selections for all your needs. Difficult to miss regardless as it's probably one of the larger shopping center area in Haleiwa but what makes it special honestly is there is a public restroom and is the place that I do find myself stopping by on the regular. Love that there's lots of free parking so that you're able to enjoy and browse at your leisure is always something that you don't need to worry about here which makes it a great place to do it all.
