I wanted to take my hubby somewhere for Father's Day without all the craziness as we both are also in the restaurant industry. I double checked what time they closed before coming because I always hated when people come in at the last minute. We arrived at 8:30, it was pretty empty, a large party and a few scattered tables. We were greeted right away but no one sat us for a few minutes, it seemed like, the servers were more concerned with other things. We got sat, let's say 8:34. No one came to our table to get our order until 8:55. The manager, I assume asked one of the servers if we had been helped, I made eye contact with her, and shook my head No. Our server "Many" seemed unsure if the table was his or not. There was quite a bit of dirty tables and the hustle/speed of service was not what you would hope for with the amount of open tables and other customers here. This is only our 2nd time at this location, the first time was pretty awesome. Not sure if it's just an off night or something. Kalaveras could absolutely be amazing and packed to the brim, just might need more attention to detail with customer service, speed of service and hospitality. The manager has a great personality and is very personable, coach this skill to your crew. I saw you hustling, running food, running the crew and smiling. Our food was delicious, it came out hot and plentiful.

I've only been to one other location and it was actually pretty fun, with great food. However this location didn't fair as well. I went during the week around 5pm to beat the rush and was seated right away. The restaurant wasnt crowded at all and most seemed to have their drinks and orders in. Not sure why but we weren't even approached for over 20 minutes, I was walked past, walked around, never made eye contact with and never approached for close to half an hour. Finally a manager approached and apologized for the oversight and took our drink order just to hand us off to the same person that walked past us several times. The food was slow to come out, the drinks were never asked to be refreshed and finally we asked for the bill...I paid cash knowing I would have been there for another 30 minutes waiting for the receipt and left. Avoid this place, sadly it's horrible.

I hate to do this but this is extremely unprofessional. I took my fiancé out on a date day on Saturday 1/3/2026. Mark my server decided to add himself another tip. I left him $15 cash which is a little over 20% tip and yet I come to find out that he added another tip of $19.54. Currently disputing it with my bank, I've tried to call the restaurant (no answer). If I could give a 0 star I would. Double check your receipts and charge amounts. Don't trust Mark or this company. Skinny light skinned Hispanic male. Food ain't worth the scam.

Very nice place. Wasn't crowded at all which I love. The food and the drinks were really good. Also, food came very fast which is a plus. I'd definitely come again!

Make sure before you go you call and see if Christian is in the bar. That boy knows how to make a drink. I was very thirsty and he took care of it, he sure did know about peaches. I left satisfied.. He definitely has coming back for more!!! Oh and the food was good too!

This Calaveras looks outdated. Not that ma y customers many tables were empty. The food was ok not bad but also not impressive. The customer service was good considering the server did t have more than 5 ish tables

Service attentive and fun. Had a carnitas Taco and the tacos Dorado. Again the flavors were amazing. The pics are not entirely accurate to the way they serve these dishes....I have a sensitive palate to spice so I have them take some things off. But if you like spice and heat, you will be at home here. I'll return again and again. I do appreciate restaurants that are not afraid of bold flavors! Kalaveras has balls!

Kalaveras is a great place to socialize at. I came here as a party of 14 and they were able to accommodate us easy. We came in on a Thursday night without any reservations and we got seated right away. It was busy but no waiting. Our server was really nice, helpful, and quick with getting everything. We luckily came right before happy hour (2-7pm) ended. I like that their happy hour included lots of food options and margaritas were only $8 but you can add an extra shot for $3. I like that the extra shot came on the side. And they had so many different flavors of margaritas. Oh and bonus points for them being on the rocks instead of blended. They also have daily drink specials, including Thursday having cheaper micheladas. I found their drinks to be quite good. For food we ended up sharing a bunch of tacos, queso fundido, loaded asada fries, and buffalo wings. My favorites were the tacos and loaded asada fries. The buffalo wings were teeny tiny and the smallest wings I had ever seen in my entire life. They were laughable and we got a kick out of them, but I really do not recommend them. Besides the happy hour items we got, they also have quite an extensive menu. Their drink and food menu is large and there is so much to choose from. They even had full plates such as lomo saltado, burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas. I want to come back to try their empanadas and ceviche. Oh and they have a brunch buffet on Sundays that includes unlimited mimosas for $35. Service was great and food was definitely affordable. It has a cool vibe inside and is loud with music. It's great for smaller parties or large ones. Its super spacious with a full bar. I would definitely come back with friends to hang out at.

The atmosphere could have been cool, but every 5 minutes the bright hallway light blasted through the western-style swinging door and completely ruined the dark speakeasy vibe. But it seriously felt like they split one drink into two. Barely a shot in each glass, and the cocktails themselves were just so-so. Very syrup-y flavor. Definitely not "bespoke" or unique the was the server was upselling us. Service started good but when he got busy it went downhill. And by busy he got (1) 5 top.....He was excited about explaining the menu but then never once came back to check on us. When we finally flagged him down and asked for the check, he just dropped the handheld payment terminal on the table, walked away, grabbed it when we finished paying, and said absolutely nothing... no "thank you," no "have a great night," nothing. And this was after we still tipped 20%. Definitely not worth the money, service, or atmosphere. We won't be back.

I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey. She updated us on when food was coming, was not confused about any orders, even if they were off the beaten path, and she boxed up the food, and ran our card when we had to leave, in such an efficient manner. Even though I could see she was busy with other, larger tables. And she reminded me since my items were raw, I should refrigerate them asap. That was so sweet, she didn't have to care what happened after we left lol and I know people want to hear about food in a review, but great service makes such a difference! The thing about the ambiance, everyone was there celebrating, and happy, it made it such a happy dinner. There were birthdays, and friends sharing plates, family style. It was just heart warming. Now food and drinks: I ordered a lychee martini, not on the menu, and then another martini, both were perfectly balanced. We had the infamous bread and honey appetizer, which was phenomenal! The meatballs. Which, my only qualm was, I wish they brought a cheese grater, but that's me, I love too much cheese lol I had the carpaccio, which was amazingly balanced. I loved the quality of the meat, the sauce, and arugula. I also had the salmon crudo, which I wasn't the biggest fan of. I liked the sauce, but it was a little fishy and cut thick, so chewy, and personally, I'm not a big fan of pickles. I would have liked pickled cucumbers, more. My friend had the katsu, which was a little spicy. So pay attention when the menu has a jalepeno next to it! lol All in all, it was a great experience! The short rib was incredibly tender and the sauce was rich without feeling too heavy. The crab roe spaghetti was also a hit. The sauce was creamy, packed with crab flavor, and they were pretty generous with the crab meat. My only complaint was finding a piece of crab shell in the pasta which was a little unpleasant. The yuzu rita was refreshing and helped cut through the richness of the heavier dishes perfectly. Shoutout to Anthony for being so sweet and helpful throughout our meal!!
