I had a fun and memorable time at Kalaveras. They have good food and good vibes. I would definitely recommend going during happy hour. It is from Monday to Friday from 2-6 and they have a taco bar that you just can't pass up. We got the loaded asada fries, birria tacos, and chicken tacos all from the happy hour menu. The taco bar tacos are only $1.99! They hand press the tortillas and pan fry it front of you so it's fresh. The asada fries and birria tacos are $7.99. You can also add on grilled onions, jalapeños, salsas, cilantro, etc.. We also got a couple of alcoholic drinks. I specifically got the strawberry slushie margarita and it was super refreshing. It was also huge for only $10! All in all, I had a great time. We were celebrating a birthday and the employees sang to them and gave them a little dessert! We were there on a Mon night for happy hour & we got to watch Monday night football while there! There's music playing in the background, but it's not so noisy that you can't hold a conversation. Service here was great - wait staff checked on us, got rid of empties quick, refilled chips/ salsa & water, etc. maybe since it was a quiet Mon, we got all the attention. I got a guava margarita for the Mon price of $6.99 & ordered 2 hot apps for $7.99 each - loaded asada fries & queso birria fries. I wanted to take my hubby somewhere for Father's Day without all the craziness as we both are also in the restaurant industry. I double checked what time they closed before coming because I always hated when people come in at the last minute. We arrived at 8:30, it was pretty empty, a large party and a few scattered tables. We were greeted right away but no one sat us for a few minutes, it seemed like, the servers were more concerned with other things. We got sat, let's say 8:34. No one came to our table to get our order until 8:55. The manager, I assume asked one of the servers if we had been helped, I made eye contact with her, and shook my head No. Our server "Many" seemed unsure if the table was his or not. There was quite a bit of dirty tables and the hustle/speed of service was not what you would hope for with the amount of open tables and other customers here. This is only our 2nd time at this location, the first time was pretty awesome. Not sure if it's just an off night or something. Kalaveras could absolutely be amazing and packed to the brim, just might need more attention to detail with customer service, speed of service and hospitality. I've only been to one other location and it was actually pretty fun, with great food. However this location didn't fair as well. I went during the week around 5pm to beat the rush and was seated right away. The restaurant wasnt crowded at all and most seemed to have their drinks and orders in. Not sure why but we weren't even approached for over 20 minutes, I was walked past, walked around, never made eye contact with and never approached for close to half an hour. Finally a manager approached and apologized for the oversight and took our drink order just to hand us off to the same person that walked past us several times. The food was slow to come out, the drinks were never asked to be refreshed and finally we asked for the bill...I paid cash knowing I would have been there for another 30 minutes waiting for the receipt and left. This was my first time at this location and unfortunately the service fell really short. We ordered a round of waters, beers and appetizers . It took thirty minutes for the beers and another ten for the waters (after asking two more times) and our appetizers done time after. Kalaveras is a great place to socialize at. I came here as a party of 14 and they were able to accommodate us easy. We came in on a Thursday night without any reservations and we got seated right away. It was busy but no waiting. Our server was really nice, helpful, and quick with getting everything. We luckily came right before happy hour (2-7pm) ended. I like that their happy hour included lots of food options and margaritas were only $8 but you can add an extra shot for $3. I like that the extra shot came on the side. And they had so many different flavors of margaritas. Oh and bonus points for them being on the rocks instead of blended. They also have daily drink specials, including Thursday having cheaper micheladas. I found their drinks to be quite good. For food we ended up sharing a bunch of tacos, queso fundido, loaded asada fries, and buffalo wings. My favorites were the tacos and loaded asada fries. The buffalo wings were teeny tiny and the smallest wings I had ever seen in my entire life. They were laughable and we got a kick out of them, but I really do not recommend them. Besides the happy hour items we got, they also have quite an extensive menu. Their drink and food menu is large and there is so much to choose from. They even had full plates such as lomo saltado, burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas. I want to come back to try their empanadas and ceviche. Oh and they have a brunch buffet on Sundays that includes unlimited mimosas for $35. Service was great and food was definitely affordable. It has a cool vibe inside and is loud with music. I tried this branch out originally in the Riverside location. I always thought the food was very good. They have an outdoor patio that is good for dogs and it wasn't crowded on a Thursday evening. We were greeted pretty quickly and served yummy chips upon arrival. The food is overall tasty but a little weird on how they charge us for the fajita. They did the initial pricing of $17 then added an additional maybe $15 because we got the combo. I wish that was stated a little bit more clear so that we understood how the billing worked. But otherwise a decent experience I hope this is able to sustain because this is prior that came here didn't do too well. read more

A friend of mine was craving Mexican food, so they brought me to this location. This was my first interaction with this brand. Kalaveras is a Mexican restaurant chain with about two dozen locations throughout Southern California. If you examine the menu, it's basically "Mexican" food--but there are a few fusion dishes, and I think they incorporate some other Latin American food influences as well. Compared to El Torito and Acapulco's, I suspect that Kalaveras is trying to cater to a younger audience with its decor, music and TVs. The food here is also a little spicier compared to the other two brands mentioned. I'm still biased in favor of family-owned Mexican restaurants which have a distinct flavor profile, derived from their state of origin. However, the food here is better than okay. It's very good, when compared to a lot of other Mexican restaurant chains. During our visit, the service was good; the food was good; but I felt the music volume was excessive, given dining room occupancy at the time--or maybe, I'm getting old ;-) read more

Barbacoa wet burrito is ridiculously delicious with big beautiful chunks of lovely meat.. super high quality, not a lot of fat. Thing is completely beautiful and basically a work of art (see my pics). I am terrible about taking pics but had to this time. Shrimp tacos were tasty but that burrito stole the show for me. Asada nachos are beyond super.. dare I say, I think they reached a level of SUPER HERO! Still that burrito.. mmmm, that burrito.. DAMN!!! Ambiance is very nice, albeit loud but that's ok. Very clean, lots of pretty neon lights.. it basically looks like the burrito but in restaurant form. Service is totally friendly, courteous and prompt! Prices are not bad for the quality and quantity of food... that burrito must be 2 pounds!!! Oh and place is open until 11! So in love with this spot already.. We've been here a few times and each visit has been very nice. The staff is always accommodating and friendly and the food is great! I love the chicharrones, the guacamole, and the carnitas. We went here for a quick bite one Friday night. It was difficult to park, as they were resurfacing the parking lot, so we had to find street parking. This is nothing against the restaurant. When we entered, again on a Friday evening, it was very, very empty. I would like to think this is because no one could find parking. Maybe it is because of the location (far from downtown HB closer to the car dealerships and such). We ordered drinks and nachos. Everything tasted fine, and our server was very friendly.
