    Guava drink everyone was getting

This is the place you've been looking for. It is exactly what you want in a speakeasy; not overly kitschy, still cute and cheeky. Private, absolute killer drinks and vibe, great bartenders and staff, and a great time.

A speakeasy at night, hidden within a diner during the day. So far, I've been to this speakeasy 3 times (different years). The vibes are still intimate and drinks are still strong which is AWESOME. I noticed they expanded the space a bit toward the back recently to offer a little more seating. I usually recommend a max party of 4 but cool to see they could now accommodate a group of 9 in the back room without issue. They take reservations in advance and walk-ins may go on a wait list. It's great so that each patron/party has a comfortable, undisturbed experience. It's not a crowded, loud, or messy type of bar. Love that they initially provide us with water before we order. Old Fashioned was fragrant and smooth. Orange peel scent was pleasantly present throughout the drink - they used a spray instead of zest - impressive! My partner prefers his whiskey with stronger flavor than the default Makers Mark though he might ask for a different whiskey next time. *RATED 8/10 Fuzzy Navel was sweet and flavorful just as I like it. Major points for the foam being vegan-friendly as is. The foam texture is fun and very peach forward. Would order again. *RATED 10/10 Cheong Soda (price unlisted on the menu) was a nice finishing, non-alcoholic drink to sober us up. The Cheong (Korean fruit preserve) is apparently different sometimes - this time, it was blueberry. First time taking my boyfriend here and he LOVED the experience. We'll be back!

A little speakeasy hidden inside Dick Church's Diner. The space is small, but the atmosphere is nice. The interior decorations are on theme and nice. Our server was knowledgeable and walked us through the menu, explaining everything. All cocktails are $16, and they have a seasonal menu that changes every 2-3 months. Espresso Tonic 5/5 - Very good; the only one I really enjoyed. Americano 3/5 - Tasted a bit sharp and medicinal for my liking. Angel Face 2/5 - Very strong; not really my thing. Negroni 1/5 - Extremely strong, almost undrinkable for me. I'd only go back for the espresso tonic, but the atmosphere and service were excellent.

Fun little bar hidden inside Dick Church's diner-- easy to miss, worth finding. It's pretty small inside, so reservations are the move. We booked ahead and they do have a $20 per person no-show fee, which is fair given the size. All the cocktails are $16, which feels like a win these days. I ordered a Negroni, and my friends went with a Swizzle, one of the holiday specials (can't remember the name), and an Angel Face. Everything was beautifully made. My Negroni had a hint of ginger that wasn't totally my thing, but that's personal preference. Overall, it's a cute spot with great vibes, solid pricing, and well-crafted drinks. Definitely a fun place to check out if you're into intimate cocktail bars.

Tiny, hidden, and innovative cocktail bar that's a must visit for any drink lover in So Cal! I don't think there's any bar quite like this in Southern California, let alone all of the state. They use unique and unexpected ingredients to recreate and batch classic cocktails, such as a hay and lemon Martini or a carrots, neutralized balsamic, and maple Manhattan. They also change their menu every season, so there's always something new and interesting to try. They take a lot of big swings, so you may not love everything you try, but that's part of the fun. Also their drinks aren't super strong so it's totally doable to try several drinks to discover something you like. Ask for recommendations! They also have togo cocktails which have been delicious every time I've gotten some. Even their house made bar snacks are great, such as their Cancha. It's a very small and intimate space, so make a reservation or get on the Yelp wait-list well ahead of time on your way there.

This is one of the coolest bars. The menu is wild and the team here is really cool. The owner parks at the bar and does an opening shot with his folks at the beginning of service. They put a lot of effort and detail in making their cocktails...they were toying with the formulation of one of the cocktails when I strolled in. The cocktails are been batch-made. Snack list is pretty limited...you have a couple of drinks and bounce to the next place. The flavor combinations and mixology skills here are a little mad scientist and a fair amount of whimsy. My margarita was bleu cheese scented, but totally tasted like a margarita. This falls in the kinda weird, but good and fun. My companion had the carbonated Americano, which was strong for her because of the bubbles but I found really balanced. The carbonation does end after 10 minutes.

Awesome speakeasy located on the side of Dick Church's Diner! Seating is extremely limited, I say approximately 20 people max. The drinks are super unique with very good flavors! Menu is always rotating as well! Some drinks were hit or miss, but the best drink I've had was the pumpkin spiced White Russian made with clarified milk. It was just so smooth and flavorful! Don't come hungry as they only have snacks, and each drink is around $16-20. (expect to spend about $50-$60 a person) Great service! Highly recommend you check it out!

    Transfusion...sooo good!

Create drinks and moody vibe, you'll love this hidden speakeasy in the most unexpected location. The vibe change from the diner to this bar is crazy and makes it so much more enjoyable.

Had a great experience at this small and cozy speakeasy bar. The service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. The cocktails were truly ly unique and innovative. Had a unique takebon a Negroni, featuring unexpected ingredients that balanced the classic flavors beautifully. Also tried a margarita with an interesting twist. The combination of ingredients was bold (blue cheese, pear, sauternes) but delicious. Thus spot is a hidden gem and reservations are a must.

P1oneer is located in Dicks Chicken restaurant in Costa Mesa. Reservations are a bit tough to come by as this is an intimate speakeasy. However, they do have a yelp waitlist if you want to try as a walk in. The theme currently is NASA so it's dark, moonlit lamps, scientist feels on the projector. I did hear they have a rotating theme every quarter. Otherwise, food is limited. Do not come here hungry. They do have small bites such as nuts and bread but that's pretty much it. We added on a bowl of nuts ($5) and it was a solid assortment of salted nuts. As for the drink menu it wasn't huge, they have a cocktail list for $16, and then straight 2oz spirit pours for $20. I thought the cocktails were okay. We asked for an espresso and the server said it's only the cocktails on the menu, ok. We had another nearby table ask as well and the server was recommending cocktails similar to an espresso which I wish that was our experience but we did not receive that. Overall, a laid back speakeasy in Costa Mesa to get a night cap after dinner.

Small space-themed speakeasy inside Dicks Chicken diner. We didn't have reservations but we waited for about 5-10 minutes to get seated at the bar. I forgot the name of the drink I ordered but it had ginger in it. It tasted like plum and wasn't too great . They have plenty of other unique drinks to try, along with bar snacks. They change their menu each season so I'll try again next time.

Back: Pink Lady (L) and Blue Lagoon (R) Front: Daisy (L) and Garibaldi (R)
    Patricia B.

Nice drinks + a fun space-themed speakeasy! I tried the Daisy -- it was great, and I enjoyed the macadamia and banana flavors. I didn't get to try other drinks, but they have so many and they all look so good! All cocktails are also $16. The waiter let us know that they were changing their menu again, so not sure if Daisy will be on it again, but excited to see what's new. They also have a lot of different snacks, but I didn't get to try. We went on a Saturday night and it seemed pretty busy, so would definitely recommend getting a reservation! It was also easy to find; it's in the back of a restaurant near its restrooms and it also has its own parking lot. Overall, it was a nice, secluded place to hang out with your friends or your significant other.

    Molly E.

I have gone back-and-forth about how to rate this because the service could not have been more wonderful. Everyone was so accommodating, knowledgeable, and wonderful! But at the end of the day, this is a speakeasy and you go for great cocktails and a nice ambience and both of those were severely lacking. All of the cocktails are pre-batched and you are unable to get anything customized or get a cocktail off menu. Of the 17 cocktails (classic and specialty), a few had dairy so those were ruled out for me. I tried 4: americano, martini, Manhattan, Negroni. I wouldn't order any of them again. The Americano and martini were actually undrinkable for me. They all were somehow very strong but also tasted thick and syrupy. There was no good balance of flavors and liquor that you typically find with crafted cocktails. Additionally, this speakeasy is very small and VERY loud. I enjoy the chill vibes that I typically find at speakeasies over loud bars and clubs. p1oneer's music and guests were extremely loud and it didn't meet the vibe of the space.

Review: My partner & I were across the street at the shopping center & I wanted to hit up a bar since we don't know the area. I was the one who found this on Yelp, and he was like ...yeah, idk. I thought it'd be cool so we crossed the street & walked over. Okay, he literally fell in love with this place. A coworker recently asked him for a bar rec & he mentioned Cowboys and Poodles!! The concept is very cute (being a speakeasy) & when we came in we were greeted by Calvin who is hilarious & who makes excellent drinks. They had this very intriguing drink on the menu & he helped me decide. I would for sure come back & have it again + try the others. My partner noticed the very extravagant and peculiar decor here. The ceiling of the confession booth literally has cowboys ON poodles (!!!). He hypothesized it's all custom-made bc this is just too random. We loved it! My partner found himself counting down the seconds until these guys got out of the carriage, LOL. We swooped in immediately. It was sooooooooo cute! & strange! We pretended to be some kind of royalty in a different century. Whaaaaat a vibe. Saying again that Calvin is the best Even if this place wasn't so cool, his banter + his drinks would've still led to 5 stars. Come see for yourself!!

Tried out the Seoul Rider, which was so unique and savory but fresh. Key notes if flavor were kimchi and fish sauce, but honestly very well blend. Sounds a little intimidating, but honestly was great. I already love Miche's, Bloody Mary's, and dirty martinis. So if you are more of a savory esque person, this drink is fun to try if you adventurous. They garnished with a green onion which I frickn love. Oh So Jaded, a gin crafted drink with notes of kiwi and fresh cracked peppercorn. Ugh, so fresh and good. She Devil, such a great drink if you like Moscow Mules or ginger tasting drinks. Kiss My Hisbicus, such a pretty and fruit drink. Definitely on the sweet side an dangerous cause you don't taste the alcohol at all lol. Great bar to stop by with a friend or two to catch up. After our party of six chatted over cocktails and preyed on pupus, we moved to a "secret" room tucked in the back of Stowaway and walked into a Belly Of The Beast. The founders and co-owners of Stowaway, Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, created this extension to the tiki bar with a wildly interesting Pinocchio theme and the famed encounter with Monstro the whale all the while serving the same offerings in Stowaway but with also an exclusive limited menu just for this adventure. With its proximity to Disneyland and its Enchanted Tiki Room, with the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture they found a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, tropical trimmings, and nostalgic know-how. How would my belly handle the beastly drinks concocted here!? PURCHASE(S) Gepetto's Last Words ($16.00): Intrigued by the cocktail's name, this elixir was crafted with Fid Street Gin, tangerine, creme de violette, lemon, and cucumber, it was a citrusy refreshing sweet drink that was decorated with bright yellow petals. It was nice, but for whatever reason it just didn't quite hit the spot. [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 4.0 of 5.0 STARS] Onion Rings ($9.00): A decent portion with rings of medium to large sizes, these were hot, dark golden browned, crunchy, and had a slight tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (sweet Maui!) rarely pulled out at times. They were lightly oily while the catsup wasn't needed but used. SERVICE While in Stowaway, we informed our male server to let us know when we were allowed to enter the belly. Once inside and situated, we had the place and bartender to ourselves. After we all perused the menu, we placed our orders, and everything arrived within ten minutes. The rest of the time was spent chatting, picture taking, and our bartender checked in on us also giving a Dole Whip taster. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE "Hidden" inside Stowaway which was located within a strip mall, the entire theme was based on the Pinocchio story, the interlude in time spent inside Monstro, and as we entered it felt like the beginning of the Disneyland "Storybook" ride as you road a canal boat into the mouth and sharp teet of a whale. There were several marionettes (appropriate and non-appropriate) that hung from the ceiling and belly walls, along with other Disneyesque memorabilia, a few sitting booths, and a tiny bar at the end of the roo. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights and table candles glowed. There were no TVs while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL Belly Of The Beast was an adventurous fun evening with friends, it left me feeling childlike with the need to watch "Pinocchio", and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I generally loved all-things Disneyana, and this new wrinkle, albeit probably not approved by the mouse ears brass, caught my fancy. My one drink was tasty but just didn't hit the right spot, the onion rings were very good, the prices were a tad elevated, the atmosphere was awesome, and the service was friendly and professional. They had an extremely limited menu, and there was some doubt whether or not ordering from the Stowaway menu was an option. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $27.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Upon entering, you will walk through another small hallway with green light and wood framed mirrors on the wall. At this point, you have now entered the Guild Club. The centerpiece is an attractive granite topped bar that seats nine people. The back of the bar features a beautiful wood cabinet with intricate carvings. There is a small area across from the bar with two round tables, each with two high back cushy chairs. This area is more intimate, but the tables are small if you plan to eat and drink a lot. The walls, floor, and ceilings are dark with lots of woodwork, giving a warm cozy feel. There are a nice assortment of interesting lighting fixtures, and paintings on the walls. We started off with an order of shishito peppers which were probably some of the best we have ever had. The portion size is very generous, and they have some herbs, almond crumble, and squeezed lemon on top. Be warned that the cast iron skillets that a lot of their food is served in are extremely hot. For cocktails, I started with the Number One. It was a good balanced cocktail with noticeable cucumber flavor and some bitterness on the finish from the Pimms. She started with Einhorn Is Finkle. It had a great light sweetness with some grapefruit flavor and light bubbles. For my entrée, I had the crispy duck. This is actually a big ball of duck meat with a fried coating on the outside. The duck was very flavorful and nothing about the duck or fried shell was greasy or oily. The grated cheese paired well and the arugula added a nice freshness. This was a great dish that I would definitely order again. She ordered the chile relleno. Obviously, Arc is not a Mexican restaurant but this was surprisingly probably the best chile relleno we have ever had. It had a great pumpkin seed crust with a very flavorful succotash inside. The chili itself was huge and filled up the whole skillet. We would absolutely order this again. I was talking with our bartender JT about my recent new appreciation for mezcal if it's toned down and that none of the mezcal drinks on either cocktail menu really caught my eye. He suggested a Last Word with mezcal replacing the gin. I enjoyed it, but the mezcal was a little too prominent for my taste. For her second cocktail, she ordered The Girlfriend which has a humorous description of "changes daily". The current girlfriend when we were there was a twist on a blackberry margarita. This was surprisingly the best drink of the night, and was definitely the most complex margarita we have ever had. It had a light blackberry flavor, and I believe some of the other ingredients that JT mentioned were grapefruit, lime, cocoa, and cinnamon bitters. For dessert, we ordered the German chocolate cake. It was a huge slice of moist cake and was served with a large dollop of fresh cream. The cake wasn't overly sweet which was nice. We shared one last drink, the Liquid Courage as it sounded like a nice dessert cocktail. On my first sip, I tasted coffee which was unexpected. I asked about it, and apparently the drink menu does not list the Nola coffee liqueur that is in this drink. I'm not a fan of coffee, but at least this cocktail had more of a mocha flavor than a strong coffee flavor. I probably wouldn't have ordered it if the ingredient list was accurate, but I think coffee or mocha lovers would enjoy it more. Our bartender JT was pretty much running everything by himself with only a little outside help, and he was doing a great job. He was also very friendly and we enjoyed our conversations with him. The prices are a little on the high side, but the drinks were good, and the food was excellent with generous portion sizes. Our reservation was for 6:00pm and I would recommend visiting a little closer to sunset. There are some outside windows on the far wall and even though there are drapes, a little light still comes through. And if the door to the outside patio is opened, a lot of light comes in if the sun is up. The Guild Club is a great little speakeasy that I only recently discovered, and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

This place is located inside a gorgeous shopping center in Irvine…read more It's located inside, Bacchus Bar and Bistro. Which, was extremely crowded. They have tons of parking in this shopping center. They share it with TONS of other places. One of my BFFs saw this on an Instagram video and wanted to check it out. *They do take reservations When we came in we checked in with one of the waitresses. She said she would seat us in a minute. To be honest, she did forget about us. A waiter walked up to us and asked us what was going on (we were standing there for around 7 - 10 minutes) and we told him we had a reservation for the speakeasy. He immediately apologized and sat us. This camp themed speakeasy has a couple booths. It's on the smaller sides. Which, speakeasy's are usually small to begin with. I did not get the waitresses name, my friend and I were busy catching up. The waitress was nice, but not attentive. I will say service was a 2/5. However, the actual restaurant, cozy pine is located in, was packed because of the World Cup being on TV. So I definitely was not going to complain The food Our food order did come out extremely FAST. Faster than our drink orders. -the campfire guacamole -BBQ shoestring fries (had bbq seasoning all over them so it tasted like a BBQ potato chip) -Glamping plate (charcuterie board) -steak tacos (one without onion and cilantro -churro affogato Again, the food was VERY fast!! And to be honest it wasn't that bad. I'll say, speakeasy's usually shine in the drink department vs food. Drinks -Lycheed and Loaded Ketel One, lychee liqueur, lemon, elderflower. This was extremely delicious! If you don't like to taste your alcohol? Go with this. It was really refreshing. Hand this to me at a spa and I'd be the happiest gal in the world -Camp Anawanna $17 Graham cracker-infused bourbon, licor 43, chocolate, torched marshmallow (the waitress catches the marshmallow on fire at the table) This one was stronger and I didn't think it was overly sweet despite the ingredients I think they had a good selection, especially for a small speakeasy. I have been to better, so I don't think I'd return. Especially since the service was not that great. We still had a good time and recommend for every speakeasy lovers list.
