This place is fun and right on the docks. It appears to be geared towards tourists. The food was good and everyone in my party was with their orders. I had a cup of seafood chowder which was wonderful. It had great depth of flavor and lots of seafood. It was definitely in house made. The lobster roll was plentiful however the meat didn't taste fresh. It could have been because it was the last day of their season and the were shutting down for the year. The chips that accompanied the lobster roll were delicious. I met family here that live in Portland. The view from the dock was breathtaking. We put a lot of research into where to eat during our short, short stay in Maine, but in the end, convenience won out. We settled on Kaler's for our lobster roll & chowder meal. We sat on their outside deck and the view and breeze were wonderful. The chowder was very good, and the blueberry pie was amazing. The hot lobster roll could have been better. Casual and great ! Nice views ! I have lived in the area 4 months a year for a long time And don't know why I never went to this relaxing easy place! I really enjoyed our lobster w corn and potato and my husband loved his scallops w carrots and potato. Easy! You order at the bar and pick up your own food but it was relaxing ! My husband and I came for the 1st(& last)time mid-afternoon June 10. We were told by the "hostess" to choose our own seat after we give her our order, & they'd call out our check number when it was ready, or we could sit at the bar & simply order there. We chose to sit at the bar. The bar has maybe 8 seats, 3 were already taken. My husband ordered a Corona & was served immediately. The bartender never even looked at me & proceeded to chat with a guy a few seats down, and even walked by us several times, still never looking in my direction. Finally, I said, "can I order a drink"? The guy just looked at me. I ordered my usual, Jack on the rocks. I inquired about their "Famous Crab Dip"- did they make it and do they use lump crab meat? The bartender said yes to both. For our $16 we were brought a flat plastic container containing a flat yellowish mixture with paprika sprinkled on top. It was hot, but not "cheesy" and there was no visible crabmeat. It was tasteless. I said, there is no lump meat in here, in fact this plastic container had to be microwaved. He said, it was. They blend cheese(unknown type)& crab and microwave it. He did take it off our check at the end. We also ordered Bang Bang shrimp($14), which was delicious, and fried lobster($38). The lobster was also delicious, but served on a generous pile of cold, unseasoned fries. In a town where there are plenty of options for the same fare, the unfriendly service and subpar food gets this place only 2 stars. read more

We have come here several times on our annual visits to Maine. Friendly and efficient staff, eat inside or outside. Great water views from outside. Just 2.5 stars. You place your order at the counter and pick it up when it's ready, no table service and using disposable dinnerware. Average clam chowder. Can't really mess up a burger and steamers. Scallop dinner was a huge disappointment and way overpriced. A few tiny pieces of bay scallops that's overcooked is not worth $32 with baked potato and carrots. The picture make them look good size pieces... but they were tiny, chewy and over cooked. Maybe get their lobster dinners or fried dishes.. but the broiled seafood dinner was not worth it for me. The only positive was a friendly bartender making good drinks. Honestly, I prolly won't be coming back here again. read more

We stopped in to satisfy an evening chowder craving. Their flight of chowders was perfect! Tonight it was traditional clam chowder, a buttery haddock chowder, and a spicy lobster corn chowder. We also split a side of tater skins (could have been a meal alone!). The view of the harbor from the deck was great, however, the lobster in the lobster rolls lacked flavor.

The staff was friendly. Though this is a sit down restaurant, you order and pay for your food when you walk in and they give you a number. If you want an alcoholic beverage, you then go to the bar area to order and pay for your drink. You then can find sitting either inside or outside deck. They will cal your number for you to get your food. The food is good. I got their lobster pie. It was filed with lobster, they didn't short on the lobster and the lobster bisque soup that had lots of lobster pieces in it. read more

Kaler's is good and reasonably priced for a touristy town on the ocean. A lot of options as well. I enjoyed the lobster roll, but personally wish they didn't add lettuce. I like this restaurant which is very comfortably casual. We managed to get us a seating area by the dock overlooking the bay. I ordered a lobster roll which was delicious and was very happy. Excellent Food & Fantastic View Every Time!!! We have vacationed in Boothbay Harbor almost every year for going on 20 years and Kaler's has been a feeding us for most of them! Over the years the restaurant and menu have been updated but the quality of the food has remained excellent and delicious! This year we were in BBH for 5 days and we ate at Kaler's for lunch and dinner a total of 9 times! Ordering at the counter is easy, the view from their outdoor deck is like something out of a New England postcard! From little boats to big ships and yachts, the harbor is teeming with activity and the inner harbor view from Kaler's is breathtaking. The view of the outer harbor is also quintessential New England with tiny islands of tall, majestic Christmas trees and tiny cottages. Indoors they have a full bar and lots of tables in a charming coastal decor. The food here is great! Even the tartar sauce is wonderful... it's not "mayonnaise-ey" at all... it's got plenty of pickle relish in it and we love how they give you a huge squeeze bottle of it when you pick up your order at the window! This year we enjoyed lobster rolls, fish n chips, haddock sandwiches, clam chowder, blueberry pie, fried clam strips, fried scallops and shrimp... it was all, all scrumptious which is why we keep going back! The location is right across the pier from our hotel and it's surrounded, street side, by several tiny boutiques, shops, art galleries and restaurants, although you won't want to eat anywhere else! The restaurant and facilities have always been clean an immaculately maintained. The tables, condiments and containers are spotless! We have tried other restaurants over the years but we always keep coming back to Kaler's! Give it one try and you'll be hooked! (pun intended, lol). Sadly we did not take any photos this year but that's just because we don't feel like tourists anymore when we're here... we feel like we're visiting an old friend. :) Thanks Kaler's, we would give you a million stars if I could! Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We scoped out and waited for a picnic table outside and got one which was nice. I got the special which was a lobster queso.. delicious! I freakin LOVE places like this!!!! No fuss, nothing fancy, no elegant decorations, not even any waiters coming to your table. You order the food from the menu printed on the wall and then they call your number when the food is ready. And what they deliver from that kitchen is perfectly prepared and fresh WITHOUT EXCEPTION! Two of us got the spicy lobster corn chowder. The level of heat was subdued, giving you a nice mild burn throughout the bowl. There could have been more lobster; corn too, actually. But the chowder is solid and very good. Plus, I had to remind myself that this was an appetizer. The star of the show, for me, was the quality and amount of fresh caught, Atlantic white fish. Lightly breaded with the perfect crunch that I dream of - there was so much fish that I thought they must have doubled my order. Simply delicious. Can you get fancier food? For sure you can BUT you cannot get better food than this. And the french fries were among the best I have ever had! If this restaurant was single, I would marry it!!!! Of course, I am not single myself so there's no fear of anything naughty happening here. But I give a highly enthusiastic ALL THUMBS UP for Kaler's Restaurant! Ordering at the counter is a nice change. We were promptly greeted by two friendly cashiers. We enjoyed sitting out on the back deck. I got the Haddock wrap and hubby got the West Side Chicken sandwich. Both came with homemade chips. My husband said the chicken breast was too small for the size and bulk of the bun. They have a good number of choices and the bartender and order taker were pleasant and helpful. It is wheelchair accessible but you need to go down to the dock level and enter through the side door. This door tells you to use the main entrance but it is not wheelchair accessible (many steps) They could put a sign by the side door to indicate that it is a wheelchair users entrance and indicate at the main entrance to go around for handicapped access. The steps may be difficult for older people or those with various mobility issues. Regardless, when I asked, the bartender was very friendly and said no problem. The lady who took our orders mentioned the accessible table. So, I feel that they care and were happy to have us. Food was pretty good. We would return. read more

I really wanted to give a great review where I am a Mainer and love Boothbay Harbor where I spent many summers with my grandparents. The staff was great, the atmosphere was nice but my lobster roll...not so good. I order lobster rolls everywhere I go on the coast of Maine and have tried many. This was the most disappointing lobster roll that I've ever had. I ordered the hot buttered, and I can tell it had been sitting under a heat light for a while. It was dry, overcooked, and tasteless because it had lost it's succulence. Maybe the mayo cold roll is better. I have had the hot buttered in other places where they heat the butter and serve it with the lobster when ordered. read more

The fish and chips.. the fish was dry with hardly any flavor. The tarter sauce could have used more relish/pickles..it was mostly Mayo. The clam chowder was watery and had maybe 1 clam.. We were aquatinting ourselves of the area because of a tour we had scheduled the next day. We'd skipped lunch but it was too early for dinner so we stopped in for drinks and an appetizer. We didn't have much to eat but what we did have (fried calamari), it was very well done. The service was phenomenal, the staff very friendly, and the food was really good. Worth the stop, we are going to try to return before we head back to Texas because it is worth a second visit. There were two other groups of people on the outside patio and all I heard were compliments about the food.
