Very casual, with a variety of seating options (bar, picnic tables, chairs and tables, in the sun, or under a canopy for shade. The bar is a boat with bar stools around 3 sides. The food is counter service, order and they give you a buzzer to come pick it up when it is ready. We tried a lobster roll, and it may have been the most perfect one I've ever had...super fresh, very lightly dressed, on a very buttery perfectly toasted bun. Can't beat steamed lobster outdoors, looking over the Damariscotta River on a perfect summer evening. The limited parking and short line to order only add to the ambiance. The views of the boats coming in and out are excellent. What can I say about Maine lobster? It was delicious, served with corn and coleslaw - only they ran out of coleslaw and gave us a bag of potato chips as a consolation. The wine was decent and the gin and tonic was perfect - not the watered down cocktail that you normally get at an outdoor restaurant. read more

What a disappointment! Perhaps you've heard the expression "selling mutton for lamb"? Well, this joint sells 1 1/4 lb lobsters and claims they're 1 1/2 lb, and it wasn't even a real good lobster. But then , it was only $44 (Rip-off) The corn on the cob ($3) was so bad I wouldn't feed it to farm animals. I was a little concerned about the sparse crowd when we pulled up. We'd been to Boothbay Lobster wharf for dinner the day before, and the large crowd there clearly knew that this was the best lobster wharf dining experience in the Boothbay area. You live and you learn. We won't be coming back to Lobsterman's Wharf in East Boothbay anytime soon. read more

I can't have dairy or soy, which I let my server know immediately so we could talk about what I could have on the menu. Turns out they cook *everything* in butter. Ok... there is room for modifications, and I try to be flexible. Can I have a vegetable without butter? Can I have a baked potato instead of mashed?? The answer is no. There were no vegetables or potatoes available that I could have without butter....none in the kitchen, apparently, that could be just straight up steamed...weird but okay. She tells me they have salads. Okay I say, I will get a salad. Can you tell me the ingredients in the dressings? No she says, the cooks don't know the ingredients because they don't make it themselves. Like are you for real? For real for real? Also, never even got a water refill. read more

Very nice place by the water. Not too touristy. Great atmosphere & great food. Our waiter was a bit grumpy and forgetful and didn't seem to really want to be there. We got the twin lobsters that come with some bread on the side that was conveniently forgotten until we realized we were still hungry at which point he gets us the bread (upon us asking). This is the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars. Should the service have been better, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a higher rating. Despite this, I'd still highly recommend his place. Great fun. We sat outside on the dock, great views. Server was attentive and not intrusive, he let us take our time (we were a big group), and kept us supplied the whole time. Drinks were great, martinis came with a refill on the side each time. Very relaxed atmosphere, we were casually dressed, but you would t be out of place if you wanted to dress up a little. Outside was not noisy at all, so very relaxing. They had plenty of parking without n a reasonable distance. My food, a mussels dish, was served in cold tasteless stewy broth and the mussels seemed to me that they had been steamed hours before and just held until an order arrived. We were the second table seated on the outdoor patio and eventually a female with an accent came over with a very unprofessional attitude and seemed to me that we were a drain on her energy. To get her attention from that point on only went further down the drain. When she removed some of our plates, she was so oblivious to what she was doing the spill of the milky stew broth in my bowl hit the table and not all over the clothes I had on for the evening. She never did bring us a check and I wanted to just leave but no, I stopped at the inside bar and the guy got the check from her -- no discount and no interest in getting some manager or chef to talk to about the horrible experience and you know there was no credit given to our financial commitment. This is a great stop if you're boating in the Bristol/South Bristol/Boothbay Harbor area--you can tie up on the dock, although space is limited. Overlooking a working boatyard, this inn/restaurant was originally a coal depot and later a boardinghouse. Has a tugboat wheelhouse on the roof (but don't mistake it for the one in Boothbay Harbor). Check elsewhere for a review of the inn. No-frills, funky & pleasant atmosphere & decor. Eat outside on the deck if possible, but inside is nice too. I was here on Columbus Day weekend. Stopped here on the Sat 10/7 and found out they were closing the next day. Friends brought us here from MA. Worst meal ever.!!!!! I got the mac n cheese it tasted like they had been adding water to stretch the sauce, no flavor at all. I also ordered a Reisling, first glass had 2 lip stick stains, 2nd glass had sediment at the bottom. On the other hand, my husband said his fish sandwich was OK. I have given them 2 stars for the view. When I complained twice about my wine I was given another glass each time, but w no smile. I didn't bother complained about the mac n cheese. This is the second year that I have visited "Lobbie's" as I was told it was called. And again, I ordered the same thing. Picture this. We are staying with friends in Pemaquid Harbor. We get in their boat around 1130AM and began our trek to the Lobsterman's Wharf. The trip alone is amazing with views of Osprey, and other wildlife are fantastic. We make it through the south bristol rotating bridge (Which should have it's own review) and cross the river mouth. We dock the boat, walk up a flight of stairs to the dining area. Not a single cloud in the sky, 74 degrees with a slight breeze off the water. I haven't even ordered and I'm pinching myself! We sit at one of several umbrella tables overlooking the docks. It's hard to socialize when there is sooo much to look at! I order the Fried Haddock sandwich (served on a grilled roll with mildly spicey tarter sauce((or was it mayo)), lettuce and tomato), a cup of lobster stew and a Bloody Mary (glass is rimmed with Old Bay/salt). The sandwich comes with fries. Everything, and I mean everything was a ten, spot on awesome. I ordered another BM halfway through the meal and someone at the table orders the Key Lime pie for desert and passes around the table. If you are lucky enough to be in the area, you have to stop by, sit out on the deck and have lunch. Needless to say the ride back in the boat was even more amazing then the ride there. read more

We ate here twice last week on our family vacation. The first time we had 6 adults and 5 children. It wasn't crowded and they handled our large party pretty well. The second time we added three more adults and two more children and the restaurant was busier. I thought our server did an exceptional job. It is nice to sit on the porch and enjoy the quiet marina (especially quiet compared to Boothbay) and the Damariscotta river. The menu is the same as every menu in the town of Boothbay -- fried this, fried that, one or two attempts at unfried fish that fail because they are either over cooked beyond death or smothered In a cream sauce that restores all the fat lost from not frying, as well as a steamed lobster, a burger, a dry chicken breast, and ribs. And hereto this lack of effort goes equally unrewarded. So, why anyone would want to drive the extra few minutes from Boothbay to East Boothbay to come here makes no sense, and judging from the emptiness on a Saturday night, they smartly don't. The food is, in a word, bad. The fish was inedibly over cooked. The veggies from a supermarket freezer bag. Boiled ribs slathered in industrial sauce, overly battered calamari . . . You get the picture. It all lies somewhere between plain inedible and a future heart attack. The decor is a depressing, cold grey paint --I guess to invoke the feeling of eating what's left at chow in the hull of a Navy Destroyer (though the food already does that well enough) -- and the occasional nautical bric-à-brac. I've been going off and on for 20 yeas. There was a time when the food was just good enough (though still typical local fare as described above) that the place drew a crowd. Indeed, it was hard to get a table. Then, several years ago it was sold and, to stick with the Navy metaphor, was sunk by the new owners. Recently, it was sold again and bought by the owners of the marina next door. They dredged it up from the ocean bottom amidst much hope that it would be restored to its earlier days of just edible glory. Regrettably, it was dredged up and no further effort was put into the restoration save hiring several woefully incapable kitchen staff. The captain of this ship and all his executive officers appears to be on indefinite shore leave and have turned over command to the deck hands. The ship should be relieved of its command, cast off in the middle of the night, and left to drift the waters outside Boothbay Harbor as a ghost ship in order to scare off any mariners searching for good food on these shores. read more

I can't speak for the whole menu, but the Maine fried shrimp (in cornmeal) was top notch - crisp and sweet but not oily at all. In East Boothbay the food is good. The place seems a little worn. The lobster stew was very good maybe just a little to much sherry but plenty of fresh lobster. The clam chowder was good but a little heavy on the cracked pepper for me. The steamed lobster was very good. We had a very nice waiter and waitress. The wife and I have always wanted to go to Boothbay Harbor, so set off on the bikes for a two day trip as the weather was guaranteed to be good, but HOT! We got there on a Tuesday afternoon, there were alot of small pubs and restaurants, but streets were narrow and very hilly, and parking was not too readily available. So we decided to motor on up rt. 27, then pick up rt. 96 to East Boothbay. After a few minutes of riding along rt. 96, we saw a sign for 'The Lobsterman's Wharf'. There is a gravel parking lot, but alot of room to park, and not on a hill! Motorcyclists will understand this! Do you want to eat with a view, will look at the view just for parking! Couldn't wait to get inside and get started. Our server, Katrina, led us to our table on the outside deck, which did have a spectacular view and a nice off shore breeze, and immediately took our order for beverages. She soon returned and we placed our order for the 'Bacon Scallops' appetizer. There were five fat and juicey pieces, so the wife and I each ate two and split the last one! For our lunch, I ordered the 'Fried Shrimp Roll', which covered the roll and was delicious! The wife ordered the 'Fried Clam Roll', which had over abundant whole belly clams! Prices were very reasonable for both, we liked that! For drinks, the wife ordered a 'Club Soda' and I ordered the 'Black Rocks Draft', now that was a good brew, would have ordered two but not when I am on the bike! Oh dear, what happened to Lobersterman's over the winter? We go there all the time and look forward to watching the boats and the water. This year we were greeted by a grumpy young woman who tried to seat us at the back of the deck. We asked if we could sit up front (where there were at least 4 empty tables) but she said NO. Seating had to be separated bywaitstaff. We were not willing to sit at the back (next to the speakers which were very loud) so she went for permission to move us up a little further. We finally got the "2nd row" while the row next to the water remained empty for the entire time we were there. I did see one waitress that we recognize from the past who is very professional and pleasant but she was too busy. We will go again, but if they treat us in the same way, I will be prepared to go somewhere else. Food is usually fine, not spectacular but perfectly good. It is a little out-of -the-way so I would imagine that they would do their best to encourage people to come. Sadly, not today. read more
