I don't get the hype. I've ordered from there twice so far and neither time has been all that great though I've only ordered from the chinese food side so maybe its the japanese side that's the exceptional part. The dumplings are small and rather bland - it's rare for me to find dumplings I'm not crazy about but their steamed dumplings didn't do it for me or their Schezuan wontons. The wontons had a kick that I liked but the consistency of the sauce was almost glue-y and made it unappetizing. The lo mein and sesame chicken were good but nothing to write home about. I do like the fact that they deliver, and they're pretty quick about it but there's a $20 minimum before they'll deliver dinner. Not too hard to reach that price though because their prices are expensive and they don't offer cheaper dinner combo meals like many other restaurants. read more

This place is a small place we stopped in for lunch while exploring Stamford. I got the vegan option of vegetable roll and avocado roll with a green salad and ginger dressing and one spring roll. They were good. Portions are small. Appropriate for price. My boyfriend got general tso's chicken with fried rice which looks good as well. My reason for the three star rating is I literally saw one of the chefs eat his meal at the sushi bar and eat chips while other customers were there. Never saw him wash his hands. read more

Just ordered the 'spicy tuna bowl' for $10.95 and this is what I got... description says 'chopped tuna' it's in fact spicy tuna, almost puréed, that you find in a spicy tuna roll NOT chopped tuna. It is also not a bowl it is a roll (see photo). When I called to ask if this was correct, it is in fact their tuna bowl and you get nothing when you tell them it is nothing like described in the menu. read more

Kam pei is what's considered an upper class Chinese /Japanese restaurant .....at least according to them and there very high prices. One of the choices on there HOUSE SPECIALS menu is Chilean sea bass with black bean sauce.... HAH ..... surprise... they don't have Chilean sea bass and they give you a cheap white fish. Not only false advertisement of what you order but plainly a big ripoff... pay for whitefish at expensive Chilean sea bass prices. I also find them rude and obnoxious when they take an order like you are putting them out . Don't go to this place as they knowingly rip you off . read more

Kam Pei is my go-to Chinese takeout restaurant when I'm home in Stamford. It's nothing special in terms of food, service, prices, etc. but it's good tasting Chinese with solid portions. Wouldn't say I'm crazy about their sushi, but the sesame chicken is very good. The chicken dishes, lo mein, and sesame noodles are personal favorites. Portions are generous as well, especially if you get one of the lunch specials. The prices for lunch specials are also very inexpensive. Solid Chinese/Japanese place. read more

This has been our go to Asian place for the past 13 years. Never ate there, always taken out. Quality food, I love their wonton/egg drop mix soup, and both sides of the menu are good ( Chinese and Sushi) . Not the biggest sushi pieces in the world but it's fresh. Not great customer service, for instance we go there almost every weekend , drop $50 per order and they still have NO idea of my name. They treat me like I've never been there before. Meanwhile you walk into Planet Pizza and buy a $3 slice and they treat you like you are family. 3.5 stars .. Half star taken off for their poor customer service. read more

Kam Pei is one of my favorite Chinese/Japanese places in the area. It's affordable, clean, the people there are friendly, and the food seems a lot fresher and healthier than most places! This place is great for take-out or delivery, because the restaurant is quite tiny. But if you go in non-peak times, you should be fine. It's a cute little place! Called for takeout at 9.10pm tonight Saturday and was met with a standoffish attitude telling me they close at 9.30. So I place my order and I'm told "give me your credit card & pick it up now" with an attitude. I pick up the food at 9.20 and what a joke, I had to throw it out, it was so bad. $15 lobster sushi roll that was thrown in the container and looked like it was made with 1 shrimp - inedible, Chicken Pad Thai with barely cooked chicken .... Inedible. There's a reason Ocha is my Stamford go to, unfortunately they were too busy to accommodate a pickup order tonight. Kampei Management you should order from Ocha and take a lesson in how to be gracious and nice on the phone & how to make really good food, if you can't be bothered and are closing don't take the order!! Such a shame as I always liked your food! I've never been to the restaurant but ordered via Eat24 app. It took close to 80 minutes to deliver my order, which consisted of three items. When I called the restaurant about 50 minutes into my wait, she acknowledged that the driver was slow, had left 10 minutes ago, and would arrive in 10-15 minutes. It arrived 30 minutes later and the delivery guy had the never to ask for a tip. I'm never ordering from them again! read more

She rolled her eyes like a two year old child and refused to answer the question. I walked out without ordering. If you don't care about the service, the chinese is basic. Our family stopped here for a late lunch while passing through town, and I was pleasantly surprised despite the low average rating. Our sushi, salads, and hot appetizers were fresh and delicious; the avocado was perfectly ripe; the twister roll was crunchy and creamy and perfect. The service was fast, and the servers were kind and attentive to our family of four with two small children -- even brought us a dish of carrot slices when my 4 yo asked, and I was handed a fresh napkin before I even realized I had dropped mine. It's a complete hit or miss when it comes to take out. Some days when I order sushi the fish is incredibly fresh and plump. Other days it looks withered and questionably old. I've had my order messed up plenty of times - how do you possibly forget rice with my lunch order and instead give me a container partially filled with hard meat? I go here all the time. The tako-su is my favorite. The waitress is always so sweet and remembers our family and names. The sushi is fresh and delicious. I have never had any bad food or experiences here! They also recently re-did there menus and interior. It looks so wonderful! This excellent little hole in the wall is one of my favorite places in Syamford. The sushi is fresh and delicious, with the special rolls being imaginative and worth trying. Their salad dressing is perfect (one way that I judge japanese restaurants) and the cooked food is great. The chinese food is very good as well, but it has a slight japanese tinge. The hot and sour is very good but much more delicate than others Ive had, and the dishes often present on crisp steamed vegetables. This place is healthy and for dieters they have a great steamed basket of veggies or just broccoli, with your choice of protein and a diet sauce on the side, that is actually good. They also have brown rice! I love this place and I find that many of my friends also love it. great for kids, delivery, takeout...Highly recommended!! read more

Kinda confused by some really bad & some really great reviews. My opinion is that Kam Pei delivers good sushi, be it for eat-in or take-out. It is fairly priced and in a convenient location near the Bull`s Head Diner on High Ridge in Stamford. The menu is consistent with the selections that you would expect at a Japanese restaurant in the northeast, i.e. yellowtail scallion, tuna, salmon, various custom rolls. If you are in the mood for some sushi and nearby, this will hit the spot. read more

Solid Chinese/Sushi combo. Nice rolls, Chinese somewhat standard but a good match if you have a non-sushi eater in the group. I think as combination Chinese/Japanese restaurants go, this is the most equal in town with enough specialties from both to satisfy large parties. read more

I had take-out so I feel like my review cannot be spot on. The sushi was good but it arrived really soft and mushy. I'm not sure I can blame them so much though because I was the one who ordered take out sushi. I, however, did not like the flavor of the mei fun. First off the delivery was quick, almost too quick. When it arrived I didn't think to check the bag until after the driver left. They had delivered it to a HOTEL without even so much as a plastic spoon much less a set of chopsticks. FAIL. ordered dinner from them last night. worst chinese food i have ever had. the BBQ spare ribs had no meat on bones and was over cooked and tastesless the mango shrimp was awful. shrimp was not fresh, felt soggy. the spicy thai sauce was no more than a sweet and sour sauce. the chicken with cashews had nuts on the side that must have come out of a can. loaded with red and green peppers. too many peppers in it also. will never go there again. read more
