I used this company for a school event (prom). We were overcharged by over $700 due to a clerical error and although it might not seem like a whole lot, it is students' money that funded the event and this takes away from them. I have called and was told to email them, which I did twice and still no reply. It is my hope thar this can be resolved. read more

We used Kama`aina Catering for our wedding reception, and were very pleased with their services. They were quick to respond to our various inquiries and adjustments to the menu and our guest count. We also went through them to rent tables and chairs and to provide bartending services. Everything went just right: they arrived on time, the staff was friendly and on top of things, the food was excellent and exactly what we had ordered. The tables and chairs arrived early and they set them for us. The event was in a location that required us to take all the food and equipment up an elevator and then about 200 feet down a cobblestone ramp (and back again at the end of the evening). I never heard a single complaint, even though we had difficulty keeping some of the equipment stable on the carts due to the cobblestones. They cleaned up quickly and neatly, leaving this customer very happy with the results (and delicious leftovers). read more

Everyone knows that it's the FOOD that makes or breaks a party. Kamaaina Catering has onolicious food for a reasonable price. Their prices beat competitors HANDS DOWN by couple dollars per head. When you are doing a party of 300+, every dollar can add up. The staff was very friendly, helpful, accommodating and easy to work with. They truly exude what the Aloha Spirit should look like and we are so glad we went with them for our son's first birthday party. I've been to the baby expo 3 times prior to hiring them and their food has always been a winner. (They give out samples at the baby expo). A friend of mine catered through Kamaaina back in 2004 and since then I have and always be a fan! There food is awesomely good! Nice and taste kalua pig (not burnt and bland), the lomi salmon is not to tomatoey and they are not stingy on the salmon. They use actual coconut mild to make the squid luau, OMG my favorite squid luau to date! They have reasonable priced menus, offer the option of renting tends and chairs for your parties. Attended a wedding that Kama'aina catered for. The smoked prime rib is delicious! Not dry, and full of flavor. Hard to come by these days. Try the kalua pig, too. Moist and tasty. His specialty, Hawaiian food, is so good that I recently hired him to cater an event honoring top agricultural students from across the United States. The luncheon included many local kupuna as well. I would NEVER recommend Kamaaina Catering to anyone. Throughout the planning the owner missed meetings to figure out the layout for the wedding and made excuses that he overslept. On the wedding day he was an hour and a half late and when the pupus were served, it was cold. They also forgot to bring the salad and apologized and said they would reimburse us for it. We hired other caterers before and had"food stations" that they were very creative...Kamaaina was drab and had no creativity or style to it. All in all a very BAD experience. read more

Planning a wedding out of state is difficult enough. Herb gave us recommendations with most of the planning stages of the wedding. Everything with the catering went well. I was searching for a catering service and came across Kamaaina catering. Brian and I played phone tag a few times and he said he would send me a proposal. A week or more went by and no proposal. I called Brian to see if he was able to put something together for me only to have my question answered with him saying "YEA ILL GET IT TO YOU TODAY" not OK. needless to say I never did receive the proposal so I can only comment on the service which is BAD ( less then 1). I'm really sad to leave this review because I was so excited about the food. When I first hired Kamaaina Catering for my wedding they were prompt at replying and gave me great customer service. Closer to the wedding though, things started to change. A few weeks before the wedding, two scheduled meetings were forgotten by the owner after we rescheduled to fit his timeline. On the day of the wedding he showed up incredibly late! My ceremony started at 430 and he rolled in at 4! I got ready to walk down the aisle and saw the staff running around with trays of food which made me all the more nervous. After everything finished we were told the pupus were cold and the salad was forgotten altogether. My final count was off as well. The only thing that saved everything was the actual food which got overshadowed by the lack of professionalism. I would be very wary of hiring them, especially if you like things on time and correct. The one star is actually too much, it should actually be a 0.25 star....I have to say that this company has been in no way effective in their management, communication, professionalism, food etiquette. This problem arose from the day we started our meal service. The owner did not follow our contract plan as well as keep the appropriate key points required for a meal service to run smoothly. Sad to say they did not complete our contract for the year and we ended up having to close our account with them earlier then planned. It was our first and last year with this company. I have never encountered the things we had encountered with them. For the most part, that fact that we had to call the Department of Health on them and the inconsiderate back lash that was noted on many cases with the owner, Brian Wada, of whom we thought would be serious of honoring our student meals program. The part that pains me the most is the fact that the entire five months of having this company serve our students, not once did he not consider to change his way of delivering the service that we sooo needed. It is just sad that people like this would be so ignorant to serving the appropriate nutritional meals that are required in a federal program. I hope who ever is reading this realizes what they are getting into, if you don't want to get sick and don't want friends in your meal, don't consider this company. And if YOU do want to consider going with them? Make sure you look at their food permit and visit their kitchen. Seriously, lesson learned here! Don't let the pictures fool you... read more

I used Kama'aina Catering for my Dad's funeral services. We were going to go to Kama'aina Catering thru Borthwick but Borthwick told me that they won't provide refreshments if the serviced are outside of the Bothwick facilities. So I went directly to Brian Wada of Kama'aina Catering. He responded quickly. It was a small service, about 50 so I ordered for 75 people. If I went directly thru Bothwick, the minimum would have been 100 people. Brian was great as he responded quickly...gave me the estimate. He only takes cashier check or charge card (extra % charged) though but not a problem for me. It was the regular funeral service menu. the shoyu pork must have been good because there was none left after everyone took home left overs. Ditto on the mocha. People wanted to know who I catered from and while I was worried that I would have a lot of left overs, people took home food which was great!.
