Two weeks ago, I saw a group on FB called 808 Best Lunch Wagons, Restaurants & Entertainments that someone had posted the menu for Ige's and saw that Wednesday they would have baked spaghetti, my favorite going to school. Wednesday, had the internet fixed in the morning, picked up my cousin at 10:30 and she gave me directions to Ige's because all this time, I didn't know they were still in business. Oops. Ige's is located in the Waimalu area behind Goodwill on Kam Hwy. There's several small businesses back there and all these driveways, you can miss this place easily. On the main driveway, there's a bike path that crosses it, and an old guard shack. After this, you want to take the second driveway on the left. You know you're going down the right path when you see Guieb restaurant on the left, which I also didn't know was here. And drive all the way to the end. Ige's is the very last store on the left. You'll see the lunch line. They are only open for lunch from Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30 am - 1 pm, so you should plan ahead. The regular menu differs each day and for now, the daily specials have remained unchanged. But to make sure, check out their IG @igesaiea. When you get there, they do have some grab and goes that are not advertised. As far as pricing, they are pretty reasonable, regular plates are between $13 - $16. However, the portions, let's say it's really heavy. My cousin got a mixed plate of chicken hekka and pork teriyaki. And I got the baked spaghetti, no rice, with toss and Mac salad. And the spaghetti filled half the plate with a good amount of height. Ige's is counter only, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Therefore there are no seats. I asked my cousin if she wanted to grab a table at Neal Blaisdell park down the street and she quickly declined. So we drove back to her house for lunch. My cousin did enjoy her chicken hekka and pork. I'm didn't get to taste it because I was too involved with my meal. At first glance, it wasn't the brick, lasagna-style like school where there was a thick layer of cheese on top. However, without the cheese, it was still tasted the same from what I could remember. Because the portion is heavy, my cousin could only eat a fourth of her lunch while I thought I better tap out at 1/3. So she didn't need to make dinner for her family while I had dinner and lunch for the next day. Although the interaction was short, the counter person was pleasant and very helpful. 5/5/26 Found it hard to believe that I've never been here considering it has been around forever. I was wanting some sweet & sour spareribs which I normally get from Zippy's but they did not have it as a special that day. I read online from several foodies that Ige's has the best on the island and it was their Tuesday special. Easy to find, behind Cutter Ford, past Napa Auto Parts to the end of the building. They are a hole in the wall with a huge parking lot that can get pretty full. I was fortunate to find one right in front. It was just after noon & I was expecting a long line but no, no line. In fact, there were only 2 people at each counter window. They also had some other daily specials so I decided on a mixed plate of BBQ beef tips and sweet & sour spareribs. Got to the window and the guy told me the beef tips sold out so I opted for just the spareribs for $15. I was greeted by 2 friendly employees, a lady at the register and a guy, who got the plates. Service was very quick and the prices are cheap to the massive amount of food you get. They mostly take cash and will take credit card, $20 minimum. The plates come wtih you choice of white or brown rice, and mac or toss salad. It also comes with pickled onions, but they'll ask you if you want it. After I picked up my bag, it was pretty heavy, at least a couple of pounds. When I got home, I wasn't wrong. The spareribs filled more than 1/2 the plate! Taste - hands down the best sweet & sour spareribs on the island, better than Zippy's. Flavor was spot on with just the right balance of sweet to sour. The meat was so tender, fall off the bone. Speaking of which, there were very few bones in this dish! Nice surprise since a lot of places serve theirs with lots of bones & meat is not tender. The pickled onions were ono! The plate could easily be shareable, in fact, it lasted me 3 meals+. Ige's is certainly a hidden gem - great tasting food, affordable prices, quick and friendly service, good value. We got there before they opened and there was a line already forming. Once they opened the line moved quickly. It was Wednesday and one of the specials was Fresh Roasted Turkey . We ordered the Thanksgiving plate, Chicken Hekka, a combination plate with Chicken Curry and Hamburger Steak, and some Inari and Maki Roll Sushi. Finally got the chance to stop by Ige's after seeing their plate lunches all over my social media feeds for ages. Ige's is a casual, hole in the wall, located in Harbor Center. Although it seems hidden and easy to miss among the many wholesale stores, the crowd of customers lined up at the window shows thats it's not a secret. The line moves quickly and the cashiers up front are welcoming and efficient. The sweet sour spareribs are definitely worth returning for. Tender, saucy and flavorful. I went there two days in a row this week because I had to take my car to DADS Auto Body. The first day I was there because I wanted the roast turkey plate with stuffing, which is on special on Wednesdays. The plate was stacked! I had to share with my son when I got home. The turkey was delicious and moist and not dry at all. Gravy all over! I also got three pieces of andagi for dessert and washed it down with a large fruit punch. So yummy! Went to visit again the next day on Thursday because I wanted the shoyu chicken plate special. Also saw that they have the Hawaiian plate on special as well so I scooped up two Thursday plate specials to share with family at home. First time trying this place on a Thursday. Came here on the perfect day because they were serving turkey tail adobo. I ordered the turkey tail adobo and shoyu chicken and I loved it. Turkey tail was perfectly cooked...fat was rendered down to a perfect bit every time...usually turkey tail are fatty and oily but with the way they cooked it, it didn't feel oily-fatty...with the fat rendered down gave it a well-balanced bite of meat and fat. And the shoyu chicken, omg, i can tell it was cooked by an OG chef because it was tender and shoyu was not overpowering...perfect combination of sweetness and saltiness (brown sugar to shoyu). And the portions were the icing on the cake with the Mac salad. I can't wait to go back on. Thursday to get the same thing. The most impressive part of this experience is that the turkey meal was the best ever! One plate was shared by 3 adults & 2 kids (just added rice) The pickled onions were also perfect-not too sweet & just the right amount of vinegar. This place has never and I mean NEVER, let me know down. HUGE portions, affordable prices, and tasty very tasty. There is always a line which just enforces the fact that they are legit. I'm 6'3" 300 pounds and at my prime I had a hard time smashing their plate. The two plates I bought yesterday fed 3 adults 2 Keiki and still had plenty leftovers for dinner. Their Mac salad is simple yet delicious and compliments any dish you get. My go to is always the sweet and sour spareribs. They have never let me down. I always like to try something new and this time was yummy with the pick of chicken fried steak which didn't have any steak and was more like chicken cutlet which is what I actually wanted but just funny that they call it chicken fried steak. So let's talk about shoyu chicken, as I'm always searching around da 808 for local style shoyu chicken, and recently Donna O. had shot me a text to suggest I check out Ige's Lunch Wagon's version of their shoyu chicken. When looking on Yelp, I asked my friend - Donna O. if Masa's Cafeteria was related to Ige's, as in the past when I went to Masa's Cafeteria in the Mapunapuna industrial area, I remembered seeing the Ige's Catering sign. If you're ever in the Aiea neighborhood, if you know where Cutter Ford is, there are a whole bunch of businesses in that industrial complex, and Ige's Lunchwagon and Catering is one of the businesses in that industrial complex. Ige's Lunchwagon and Catering is a takeout/ "grab & go" business. There is absolutely no table seating here, so be prepared to find someplace to eat your food after making your purchase. Upon checking out Ige's Lunchwagon and Catering's menu on Yelp, I found out that Ige's only serves Shoyu Chicken on Thursday, so Thursday was the day I made my pilgrimage to Ige's. I made sure I went to Ige's early on Thursday morning (I went about 10:30 am). There are two reasons on why I went early - 1. I went early, so that way, for sure, I'll get my Shoyu Chicken plate. Sometimes, when a dish is popular, they can run out early. 2. I saw some pics of long lines in front of Ige's, so I figured if I got there early, I'd avoid the long lines. Finally got my Shoyu Chicken fix, and what can I say about it? Da Buggah was WINNAH'S!!! Ige's gives you a choice between white or brown rice, mac salad or tossed salad for your plate lunch. I ended up getting brown rice & tossed salad with my Shoyu Chicken plate. For ($13.87 w/tax) I got a ridiculous amount of Shoyu Chicken! When I picked up my Shoyu Chicken plate, it was definitely a wrist bender, as the plate was supah HEAVY! As I was chomping on my plate, I realized they put SEVEN, yes (7) pieces of Shoyu Chicken on my plate! Granted two Shoyu Chicken pieces were on the small side, but the other five pieces were definitely regular sized thighs. Oh man! I was in Shoyu Chicken, heaven!!!! After downing that plate in one seating, I almost went comatose, and rest assured, I did not eat dinner afterwards because I was still very full from my ridiculous lunch!!!! I would give more than 5 stars if i could, this place is winners! I ordered the Christmas Eve Holiday package that fed 10-15 people which had Fried chicken, Shoyu Pork, maki/oishi sushi, potato macaroni salad, namasu, chow mein and andagi for $220. Everything went so smooth from the initial ordering and payment a few weeks prior to pick up to picking up the food on christmas eve. They had the best friendly organized assembly line of employees for food pickup. I was worried about carrying the food to my car since i was alone but they had everything taken care of and wheeled the 7 trays of food to my car. The food was a hit at our family christmas eve party. We had Ten people with lots of leftover food. Everyone loved the food and it was the perfect idea for our christmas party. Thank you Iges Aiea for making our family Christmas Eve dinner so special. Saved us time from cooking and we all enjoyed the food. The food was so good I forgot to take photos before everyone dug in. Earlier this week, I was yearning for Ige's Lunchwagon and Catering since I have heard of that place (and even when they were up on the hill on Kaahumanu St). But for this past Tuesday, I was definitely going there! Have seen their weekly specials and daily specials on their FaceBook posts and local YouTuber 'Authentically Charles' did a review of the place about a couple of years ago. I remember how much his facial expression changed when he tasted the bbq beef tip entree (he ordered a mixed plate and then another plate, the Korean Fried Chicken). Maybe this is why I chose as my first two plate lunches the BBQ Beef Tip and the other plate being the Korean Fried Chicken. So come Tuesday morning and I am all hyped up and decided I was going to call in the order since I wasn't sure 'how' busy the place was going to be just about after they open up for business at 9:30am. I called first at 9:05am on the 'chance' someone was going to pick up and either tell me to call back when they open or take my order then and there. No luck, line busy... tried about 5 minutes later ... line still busy... put my phone in my front right shorts pocket and went upon my morning... all of a sudden I hear a somewhat distant phone ring going and going... then find it was my phone ringing and saw caller id as 'Ige's..." so I picked up as I guess I must have 'butt-dialed' OR did they call me back? I dunno... but on the other end was this friendly female employee who answered my questions I had about pricing and when we can call in for orders... She said they will take phone orders as of 9am, so I was ready to hang up as I wanted to make sure my order for my brother was correct, but then I told her... I will put in the order now... it was about 9:20am. So the two plates I told her I wanted were (I ordered two plates as many on Yelp said the foods were ONO): 1) bbq beef tip plate with brown rice and mac salad 2) korean fried chicken plate with brown rice and toss salad I told her I wanted the 'pickled onions' (free for the asking). She asked if I wanted them separate in containers or was it ok to put them inside with the foods? I told her it was ok to just put it all together. How nice for that option! Oh yeah, I also ordered four half-rolls of maki sushi (verified if the cost showing on their website was correct as it was showing 4 pieces/half roll at $2, but she told me it had increased to $2.50) as I was ordering for both my brother and me. The Weekly Specials shown on their FB ads don't show what the costs were as their website too did not show the costs - only the daily specials pricing were shown. Since I don't live that far away, I told her if I could pick up at 9:40am, she said sure. End of conversation --- nice customer service I tell ya ! Got there (last unit on DH end of the ground floor of the building directly to one's left upon passing the unmanned security checkpoint booth) and easily found parking near the entry. So it's 9:42am (lol) and I reach the 'take-window as designated (for walk-ins, you have to enter the building) another employee (male) shouts my name (like he was expecting me!), but guess it was because I told them I was going to be there at 9:40am! Got home and opened up both plates and the roll of maki sushi to see for myself how they looked! Visually, they all looked so appetizing, but one plate stood head and shoulders over the other. I like how they packed the toss salad (half filled in a Glad sandwich bag of iceberg lettuce, purple cabbage and shredded carrots) with choice of prepackaged French or Ranch dressing packets. This gives more room inside of the container! No one has done this! For Tuesday lunch and dinner, I ate the Korean chicken ($13) with brown rice, forgot to eat the toss salad. Nothing to write home about.. 3 stars of 5 at most... looked like local style garlic chicken plate, but wasn't in taste. 'I' would not get this again. The maki sushi pieces were ONO tasting! I would put Waikane Store's version just higher in flavor and freshness than Ige's that 'I' have tasted. It is a 'have to buy' item! Wednesday's lunch, dinner and Thursday's lunch were all from the bbq beef tip plate ($15), with the mac (and toss salad that I forgot to eat with my KF chicken. First time to taste their mac salad, has a slight pronounced black pepper taste and somewhat creamy like Richie's Drive Inn, but not AS creamy. Came out to $5 per meal! What a flavor with a mild and not overpowering bbq flavor, these beef tips had been simmered and soaking in that sauce for MANY hours. Hey, you got dentures? No worry, can eat, meat separates with your plastic fork! I have to proclaim that that the bbq beef tip plate has to be the 'best tasting plate lunch I have had in my life !' Gotta get that dish, only served on Tuesdays ! Ige's now accepts credit cards as long as it's $20 or more. Not sure when this started but I'm happy! Quite a few times, we're passing by but don't stop here because there wasn't enough cash in our wallets and it's too much trouble to look for a bank machine. Now, we can stop by anytime! I think this is a good change...pretty sure there's quite a few people like us that doesn't carry too much cash since most places accepts credit cards. Today, I was going to order a plate lunch but ended up also ordering 2 ala carte plates for dinner. I ordered a Roast Turkey plate, Sweet Sour Spareribs ala carte and Boneless Chicken Hekka ala carte. We ate a little of each for lunch and dinner. It was delicious AND we still have enough leftovers for another meal! FYI: TAKEOUT WINDOW used to also be opened on Saturday's but it's now closed for catering so they're only opened "Tuesday through Friday" from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. so people who works from Monday through Friday can only enjoy Ige's food on their vacation...bummers for them! read more

Came here for the first time... pretty popular - line of people at 9:30am, but service is fast (3 service windows). Nice menu options and Plates were affordable. Walked away with a pretty heavy bag. Other customer told me, "This place is good. Your first time? You won't regret it." Agree... portion is generous - plate can be shared. Classic, local plate lunch... nice addition of pickled onions (optional). Will definitely return to try out other menu items. read more

Local (Hawaiian) food is local food, right? Not exactly! Many of these local mom and pop food spots have unique recipes. I've eaten from Ige's Aiea countless times in the last year, from potlucks and eating with coworkers, and the food is consistent! Below are highlights and my faves: - Pork adobo. I'm Filipino, and Ige's has some of the best pork adobo from a restaurant I've had on the island. Just the right balance of shoyu, vinegar, and savory pork flavors. - Sweet and sour spareribs. This tastes like this special pork stew that my mom would cook with hearts of banana. - Shoyu pork. Not to be confused with pork adobo, but this is so ono as well! - Hawaiian plate. Comes with laulau, kalua pork, chicken long rice, lomi salmon, and of course, rice and mac salad. Seriously, tourists won't need to visit a luau. This plate will not disappoint and shows a sampler of good traditional Hawaiian food. - Fried chicken. Cut up dark meat fried up, in the style of mochiko chicken. This is really good, but best eaten when fresh out of the kitchen. - The "International" Menu Package for catering. Includes andagi and one of my favorites--sweet and sour spareribs. The fried chicken and teri beef are delish, too! - Fried saimin. So filling and tasty from the topping of char siu pork bits. Not too salty nor greasy! You can tell Ige's adds freshly chopped green onions right before they close the styrofoam box. - Pickled onions. Adds freshness to the ono plate lunches. If my husband and I ever host visiting family or friends, and we're not eating out or I'm not cooking, I hope we remember to order food from Ige's! Great food. Great service! Wednesday is my favorite day to order their turkey plates. Do much food for the price and very yummy!

I was in charge of figuring out the food for my family's father's day gathering, and after I saw the Father's Day Japanese Menu package on Instagram, I pre-ordered for pick up on Father's Day, not knowing how the food is (I cannot remember the last time I've eaten from Ige's Aiea). Pick up was a breeze - they had marked stalls right outside the restaurant, and as soon as I parked, the guy came to my window and asked for my name. Within 5 minutes, another guy came out with a cart full of pans of food. He loaded them up in my truck - now that's service! They gave a generous amount of food and we had plenty of leftovers. Everyone loved the food, especially the shoyu pork and andagi. Some associate Ige's with funerals (I guess they are a popular provider of refreshments after funerals), but all that matters to me is that the food is good, and that everyone liked the food, which they did! (although the chow mein was the least of my favorite of all of the dishes). We will definitely consider Ige's again! read more
