Needed a new window ac that we bought installed but in an awkwardly high space. Not low like you normally see. Our old one was near the ceiling. Ricky was prompt and communicated well. It took awhile for him to remove the old ac but other then that the installation went well. Removed old ac. Installed new ac. Cut wood , painted and secured wood to the open space. Sealed any open spots. Removed our old ac all the while telling us what he was going to do. Price I would say is a bit on the higher side but considering it wasn't an easy installation and I didn't have to do it... it was definitely a fair price. Tile work was never completed, it was supposed to be tiled around the water heater. This is how they left the job. On the initial estimate, it also stated that they would purchase the laundry sink faucet and plumb as needed. This too was never completed , and while I do appreciate that they didn't charge me for the laundry faucet that was never purchased, I was under assumption this work got completed. I live out of state, and we just discovered this. I would expect the business to do a complete job and to perform quality control to verify their work was completed prior to asking for payment. On a sidenote, they're scheduling is terrible. They asked for a deposit before letting you know when they can come out to do the work, which doesn't make sense because I had somebody else lined up who could have started sooner, and if I knew they couldn't start until a specific date I would have gone with the other company. I asked in advance, prior to making the deposit if the work could start by a specific date, and I was assured by the lady whom I was speaking to that it would. And then they dodged my calls for a week or so and then by the time they got back to me, I was told the work wouldn't start for another couple of weeks later (after my target date). They also have really bad communication, I needed to make a change on the quote and I had to keep following up for almost two months to get it changed. As you can imagine, I was a little upset at this point. Due to the poor communication, scheduling issues, and not completing the jobs, this is why I gave them one star. We called Kama'aina Handyman because we had a funky interior door that broke and wanted to replace it with a security screen. We watched a bunch of videos and priced out a door and determined it would be somewhere around $200 - $250 depending on the door. YouTube makes everything look easy. But the original door was an odd size - bigger than a standard size door (so weird). We called Kama'aina Handyman and they said they could come and measure first and procure the door for us, or we could procure the door first. No price difference. My husband felt it would be better for them to come and measure first. This meant 2 appts, but that was ok. Once they measured they emailed us an estimate ($750). For this amount, they took down the old door, procured the new door, installed the new door, and hauled the old door away. Remember how I said the doors were different sized? Well, we were like, "eh, it's ok if there's a big gap on the top - no big deal!" (I know, so ghetto right? lol!) But Kama'aina Handyman was not having that! They fixed the door jamb so that it's perfect! Not only that, it's probably the best installed door in the house - if you open it, it doesn't go anywhere because it's so perfectly leveled! (They didn't paint it because we asked them not to, but that could have been done if we wanted.) We've been considering getting a security screen for nearly 10 years now because we'd like to be able to lock that door and have keys to it (the old door had an interior door knob that could lock from the inside but no keyhole on the outside). And now we have one! The process is fairly straightforward, I love that you can pay online, and every communication whether with the office or the technicians has been clear and concise. So far every repair we've had them done has been door related (I've also used them at the office!) so we can't speak to any other kind of repair, but it is safe to say that we are solid fans of Kama'aina Handyman! read more

The best! I've used them several times now. They just installed new wheels on a sliding glass door. Now it slides like a dream. They fixed a different door a few months ago, and said I am going to want them all done, after I see how easily the new one glides. They were right. I replaced the range hood over my stove. Julian was the tech and he was very helpful. Although I cleared the area around the stove of clutter, he said I had to clear the cabinet above the stove as well because he was going to have to put a junction box in there as well. So, he helped remove the items from the cabinet. He removed the old range hood and installed the new one. Then he helped put the items back in the cabinet. The only suggestion I have is it would be helpful if he had put down a drop cloth over the stove so when he drilled into the bottom of the cabinet, the wood shavings wouldn't fall on the range. Some of the shavings and a screw fell into burner bowls and below it. Although he vacuumed the top of the range when he was done, I decided to throw out the liners of the burner bowls because they had some wood shavings in it. I also noticed some shavings had fallen below the burner bowls as well so I cleaned those up as well. Other than that, I thought he did a great job installing the new range hood. read more

I had a small repair project that was beyond my ability to take-on. Although it was not an emergency, I wanted the job to be performed in a timely manner. Nora of Kama'aina Handyman was very responsive and helpful in providing a cost estimate (a price range, depending on what the repair person encounters when they arrive at the job site) and in scheduling the repair work in a timely manner. Nora even contacted me when an earlier slot opened-up (which I really appreciated because I was a little anxious to get the job done before Christmas), although the earlier date didn't work-out for me. Pohai (the handyman) arrived on time, scoped the project, picked-up material at a nearby hardware store, performed much better carpentry than I expected/requested, and completed the job expeditiously. To my delight, Kama'aina Handyman charged me 37% LESS than the LOWER end of Nora's original price range (a very professional and unexpected/uncommon act). I received a prompt response and it was easy to set up an appointment . Hoku was friendly and courteous and I showed him the faucets that were leaking. He had to go to Home Depot to get the proper supplies. He finished the projects and I am happy that those faucets now do not leak. He did a great job. I've used these guys twice and they are EXCELLENT. Both times they arrived right on time; communicated professionally before arrival and brought their own equipment. In each case they executed all tasks to perfection, including such things as mounting wall brackets, installing floating shelves, drilling, adding fixtures, plumbing, upgrading bathroom fixtures such as an advanced toilet, and mounting instrument wall brackets. They cleaned up after their work, removed all trash and debris, and completed tasks right on schedule. They didn't solicit cash tips and instead just had the credit card payment set up electronically in advance. I've heard so many horror stories about getting general professional housework/handyman work in Hawaii and with these guys there's been none of it on our end. We needed to replace our 40-year-old termite eaten door on our condo. Called around to find who made a door to satisfy the specifications for our HOA. Got a few different quotes from door vendors. I could find a door, but no one would install the door according to the HOA specs (stain the right with the specific color, add numbers, etc.) Next, I would have to hire someone to install the door, stain the door, cut the door, install the locks/peep holes/ numbering, and more. Jovan would do everything, including supplying the door/prepping the door, installing the door according to the HOA specs.
