Just finished up our couples massage with Iris and Sue. They were awesome! I got a deep tissue and my wife got the relaxation with hot stone. I told Iris that where I had pain and she managed to get almost everything if not all my knots out. Don't be fooled by the street appearance. It's a nice relaxing setting inside and they treated us with such professionalism. I got a really stiff back and neck after an intense trap workout the day before and a friend brought me here. The first thing I noticed was the abundant amount of parking spaces they have. Walking into the establishment it felt really cool and calming. The soft music, bamboo paintings and elegant drapes letting small amounts of delicate sunlight into the place took me into another world. We were greeted by a sweet Asian lady who also told us about their grand opening special of 56$ for an hour of full body massage which I gladly opted for. It was really, really good. I told her about the tension in my upper back and neck and she was able to focus in on that area. After warming my upper back with oils she slowly bore her elbows into my shoulder blades slowly taking out all the knots. It felt unbelievable. Another great part was when she massaged my forearm which was incredibly tense. This part of the massage was by far my favorite. She stood above me and placed one foot over my open palm and used the other to slowly apply pressure to my supinated forearm. It felt sooo good. I didn't realize my arms were so stiff, probably from all the weight lifting. This was a very strong lady. While working on my lower back she picked up both my legs and sort of twirled them to the side and then cracked my back. I didn't even know I could move that way. After the massage was done I felt astonishingly lighter, a truly euphoric feeling. I highly recommend this place not only for the average person but for body builders and athletes as well. About $105 including tip (not including tax) for an hour and a half combination massage esp. feat. lomilomi, shiatsu/acupressure, Thai, and all kinds of stretching movements. Requested hard pressure, got it, though the masseuse (the talented Iris with strong hands) adjusted her force and direction, as my body protested or moved in different directions. She chose the types of massage based on my many screwed up body issues. I spend the majority of my time writing on the computer, sitting for hours without stretching or getting up. So there was a lot of work to do. Some massage places are lazy--once I ordered a similar bodywork service, mostly lomi, at a slightly higher price, at a well-known downtown day spa. The masseuse at that establishment spent the last half-hour on bogus movements that did not target my tight areas or stretch me in any effective way. She literally checked out mentally from her work and just gave the kind of massage you see in Hollywood movies--pat, pat, whack, whack, stroke, stroke--for a whole 30 mins. out of the total 90 minute job. However, that is so not the case here--Kamaaina Massage staff works hard every single minute from the beginning down to the last, moving assuredly, firmly, and swiftly through each of the issues you mention when they first ask you what has been wrong, as well some you might have not been aware of. She used her tools--hot and cold towels, heated stones, scented and medicinal Asian oils, and her own super strong limbs--imaginatively in ways that added substantially to the quality and flow of my whole body tune-up. Because the treatment is so thorough and feels like it gets to many of your muscular and circulatory systems, I recommend taking off most or all your clothes--the sign in the treatment room suggests that you unrobe to your level of comfort, as they use a sheet to cover you during the majority of the treatment. So you will have a choice of how much to leave on. (Another set of signs in prominent locations emphasize that this is not a sexual massage or sex service, and to let the management know if anything suspect goes on--making the boundaries between workers and clients crystal clear.) I felt that my being totally without clothes this time had helped the massage therapist get to more of my problem areas in a systematic, deeper way, so was grateful that for once, I had decided upon this option. Not often that in the dozens of professional medicinal massages I have received in my life I have given a 30% tip (20-25% being the standard for beauty/health services, I believe), but this was well worth it. I was lucky enough to get an appointment right away, especially right when I needed a massage! My entire body felt stiff and I was beyond exhausted when I came in. I opted for the 90 min massage since they were having a 10% off promotion. I'm so glad I did!! I got Marcel as my masseuse and she was absolutely amazing! She did a combo massage of Thai and hot stone! I've never had such a great experience with her pin pointing my knots and releasing my tension! I will definitely go back and highly recommend her! My first visit to Kama'aina was a "walk-in". I was welcomed by Iris, the owner. I found her to be very friendly and engaging. Before my 1-hour massage, she asked if I had a particular area of concern, so that she could concentrate on that area. I was impressed with her concern for her clients. During my massage, we made light conversation. She made me feel important and put me at ease. To say my massage was everything I expected, is an understatement. It was one of the best ever, and as a frequent traveler, I have had many massages, and consider myself a good judge of service. At the end of the session, I was allowed ample time to continue my relaxation. Very important, as some masseuse rush you out because of another appointment. This was not the case. I have returned to Kama'aina twice more since my first visit, and each time surpassed my previous session. And at Kama'aina Massage, Iris has several qualified, and licensed massage therapists, so there is never a shortage of help and scheduling of a session. And in addition to several types of massages (hot stone, Lomi Lomi, Shiatsu, Swedish, Thai, etc), or any combination, she offers Reflexology(which I'm having today).
