I was so excited for this place because of the good reviews but now I think either my taste buds for ramen are picky (read: I've had some bomb ramen in the city) or this place just wasn't good. For starters, my roommate and I ordered the kibinako fry, which came out like little sardines and some sauce in it. The presentation is really pretty but it didn't taste great. The gyoza was flat. I have never had a flat gyoza before in my life. The tasted just fine, but nothing to rave about. Now the ramen, the reason I was there, the broth of the ramen was not sweet or savory but sour. Chase was wonderful - gave a great tip for the genmaicha and made us a delicious Japanese custard. Service 5/5! Food came out quickly and at perfect eating temp (not burn-your-mouth hot). The apps were ok, but the ramens were great! We had tonkatsu & shoyu and added the onsen eggs - excellent broth (esp the tonkatsu), delicious chashu (perfectly charred & melt-in-your-mouth), fresh noodles & good bamboo shoots (so many places cheap out with the canned ones, but not here). More like 3.5 stars. Originally 4 stars but removed 0.5 stars due to the added on gratuity for a table of four after taxes. The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated immediately. The yuzu lemonade was really refreshing. I ordered the spicy shrimp ramen which was not bad with three large pieces of shrimp. The food was good but nothing amazing or makes you go "wow". Likewise for the dishes my friends had ordered: tonkatsu ramen, shoyu ramen, and the salmon curry. However, we were really shocked to get the bill with an added gratuity of 18% and he specifically mentioned it's for the table of four. Usually added gratuities are for larger groups like a group of 6 or more. I have never heard of an added gratuity for a table of four. Also, the added gratuity was on top of the taxed amount which is not standard. Tip should be on top of the total excluding tax. By adding the gratuity on top of the tax amount made the tip almost 20%. My biggest issue is that tip should not be added on like this, as a customer we should have the freedom to decide how much we tip. That's not to say we would tip less but just having it already added in leaves a bad taste in our mouths. read more

I'm not a big ramen person. I don't actively seek it out for when I rarely treat myself to eating out but I have to admit, hot soup in the middle of the winter is so nice. This spot is quite unassuming and hidden along 8th avenue. A very tiny and narrow restaurant with dim lighting. You wouldn't notice it unless you were actively seeking it out most likely. I had heard good things about their ramen through randomly coming across reviews before and Yelp did not guide me wrong. This was probably one of the better ramens I've ever tried. I ordered the Pork Tonkatsu spicy. It was creamy. It was decadent. It was unctuous and that's a word I never use because I think it sounds silly and pretentious. You really taste the black garlic oil and it marries well with the scallions on top of that fatty pork belly and the glossy eggy perfectly cooked ramen noodles. Fair warning, the spicy is legit spicy. My boyfriend got the spicy beef miso ramen and while he tried both of our dishes and I was too full and distracted to try his, he said that he thought his was better. Which I can't truly envision now because I liked mine so much. The only pitfalls I'd say is that their beer, wine, and sake selections are a bit pricy. A bottle of Sapporo will run you $10. I think this place had closed during the pandemic so I was happy to see that it's reopened again! Service was really great with my water being refilled and being asked by servers how my food was. They even waited till I was finished using the bathroom before bringing out my food (as a solo diner). It's the small touches that really make the dining experience. The tonkotsu ramen wasn't too heavy or salty, the ramen noodles were a bit al dente and the pork belly was nice and tender. It was a good filling bowl of ramen. It did have a bunch of bamboo shoots which I'm not really a fan of. I love seafood so the ika geso was a must order dish for me. It was crispy while the squid legs were nice and chewy.
