I like the inside of the restaurant, nice bar area but not too big. Service was quick and friendly. The sushi I ordered was OK, not bad but not great, just OK. The Spicy Tuna had to much of a lemon flavor and bit enough spice, the fish used on the top of the Rainbow Roll was a bit tougher than I like. I also got the Udon Noodles with Tempura, I wouldn't recommend this, The broth was very bland and the tempura still had lots of oil on it. I would pass on this next time. One other complaint I had is they are charging top $ for their food, not sure the quality lines up with what is being charged. read more

The food here was amazing. We ordered miso soup, iced tea, gyoza, the Hama Hama roll, and the House Designer roll. Everything came out fresh and flavorful. The sushi rolls had very generous portions of fish with thick, high quality cuts and the flavors were excellent. The miso soup was warm and comforting and the gyoza had a nice crisp to it. The service was a little slow. There was only one server taking care of the tables and while she was kind it did take some time to get our food. Overall the quality of the food made up for the wait. Went with our favs: house salad, House Designer Roll #1 and the Hama Hama Roll. Most excellent (except for the few pieces where the lemon skin was too thick on the House Designer Roll and no asparagus on the Hama Hama Roll). We then tried the Phoenix and British Columbia Rolls. The Phoenix Roll is vegetarian and honestly, probably the tastiest roll of the evening. The British Columbian Roll was quite good but not as advertised - no asparagus, they subbed cucumber in, which is ok but didn't appreciate not being informed of the change when ordering both the BC and Hama Hama Rolls. We did come in the last hour before closing, so can't complain when they run out of ingredients. Just wish we had been told... That said, this is good food and the staff is friendly and on it. I would like to give 3 1/2 stars, hubby voted 4 stars. We will most definitely be back. read more

Really a great experience. I arrive as they were closing and the staff was accommodating. I like the somewhat dark lighting and beautiful kimonos on the wall. The sushi I was fresh and delicious and the wine was very good. I like this spot but forget about the location. It looked as if regulars were dining there from what I could hear. I've been here two times now. The food was delicious both the times and the service is also prompt and respectable. I've ordered the bento box and five different types of sushi rolls and they were all were top notch! Servers are super attentive and kind. They both engaged in nice small talk and made me feel really welcome. I think that the only thing kamikaze sushi could improve on is the atmosphere. Recently did take out from Kamikaze, but my fat a$$ was so excited for the sushi, I forgot to take pix. Ugh! I've been to Kamikaze a number of times and they never disappoint. With this COVID-19 pandemic and a sushi craving, we decided to stop by and get take out. This take out meal made me realize Kamikaze deserves a review. Their food, as always, is fresh and delicious. When eating anything raw, the most important thing is freshness cause ain't no one got time for the runs. If raw is not your thing, I highly recommend their Unagi Don (Eel Rice Bowl). I believe they make their own eel sauce. Their sauce is so good. The service is impeccable. Super friendly staff. I highly recommend Kamikaze. read more

We have been ordering food from Kamikaze for dine in and takeout for more than a decade. The food is fine [we'd give it four stars] and the service has always been efficient and professional, with the owner (we think) working the front of the house and taking phone orders. That changed with our last takeout order, when the person who answered the phone did so by saying only, "Hello," and then nothing else, just silence, leading to an awkward exchange in which we, on our end, had to ask *her* if we had just reached Kamikaze. The call proceeded in a similarly and unexpectedly unprofessional manner on her end. When we arrived to pick up our food, which we found packaged for the first time incorrectly, with the sushi roll container sandwiched between two hot containers, the service from the same person was as poor as we can ever recall having experienced at any restaurant in San Rafael, perhaps anywhere. She left us standing at the front of the almost empty restaurant while she chatted for a very long time with a patron who was picking up an order, someone she knew. When it was finally our turn to pick up our order, along with presenting with a disconcertingly fey and abrupt attitude, she proceeded to engage in a bizarre exchange with us in which she tried to argue about a ridiculous, irrelevant thing that has probably never been the subject of contention in any restaurant, ever. Just so, so off-kilter. Particulars are omitted to preserve some anonymity. After she finally generated our check to sign, she dropped the food in front of us and just ... walked away, clearly in a snit, without waiting for us to sign and return the receipt or the pen, and without any thanks. We can't remember the last time we haven't left a substantial tip for a food order, takeout or otherwise, but in this case, we did not. We will not be ordering from Kamikaze again if we call and this person is on the other end of the line. She has no business being in front-of-the house, customer-contact work, as she seems to have zero sensibility or understanding of the basics of these interactions, and there are other sushi/Japanese restaurants in San Rafael and, of course, Marin and the city. If this situation changes, this review and the rating will be adjusted accordingly. read more

Dove in head first! Hungary and cranky, almost Kamikaze style, I zoomed in Kamikaze Sushi Bar looking for food! Almost immediately we were greeted, seated and shortly after a very nice young man who was our server was taking our orders. The Grilled Asparagus and Oshitashi were very good, especially the latter. I enjoyed my Chicken Sukiyaki very much, but I must say my companion's NY Steak Teriyaki looked and tasted even better! Our server was very good and checked on us multiple times to make sure we were doing fine. Altogether it was a pleasant dining experience. read more

Went here at lunchtime but only cause my original choice Tommy's bistro (hence the name is an Thai Chinese fusion place) is closed on Tuesday (glad they effort do that). I had a lunch special chicken teriyaki with(out) shrimps and vegetable tempura for 11 USD. I ordered it without shrimp cause I don't eat those I'm curious to see if they replace it with something or just leave it out of the plate. It starts with a miso soup, I am not a friend of miso, so unfortunately I had to skip that as well. Wow for a lunch time place it takes quite a while to get my lunch. Waited over 20 min. With most lunch breaks only about 30 min that can be a though cookie. When it finally arrived I noticed that the spot for shrimps wasn't filled up. Lol The salad was fresh and the dressing delicious. The tempura was also good, not to greasy. But the star of the plate was the chicken (as it should be). The chicken was grilled crispy just as I love it. The teriyaki sauce was good and enough to dip the chicken in. Would have loved it would have been more thickened but that just a personal favorite (well yelp is all about personal opinions, lol). The chicken alone would have gotten 5stars (well 4't to be honest cause it could have been just a tit more hot (in temperature)). But unfortunately I have to review the whole lunch. And since I do this it only gets three stars. First of all I leave hungry, cause the portion where small, and not even served with a cheap rice. I really enjoyed the chicken so it's a shame that I probably will not have it again. Maybe I come back one day and give em a chance at dinner time. But for 11 USD plus drinks it is on the higher priced lunch options (outside San Francisco's of cause). Also the wait time this is it was way to long for a lunch break. I went to Kamikaze for dinner last Thursday and it was delicious as always. It's my favorite Japanese restaurant in Marin. I have been going there for 20+ years. I know the owners and the servers. They are all so kind and good at what they do. I have never had a bad meal here. I love the grilled broccoli and/or asparagus appetizer, the spicy tuna roll, and the combo dinners. The miso soup and shrimp tempura are fabulous, as is basically everything on the menu. I has the shrimp tempura dinner last Thursday. It was delicious. 4 big pieces of shrimp, and lots of veggies too. It was all fried to a perfect golden brown.. I enjoyed the miso soup and rice too. I cannot wait to go back. read more

Not bad, pretty average sushi. Had the NY strip steak teriyaki and sashimi combo. The steak was edible but not very good (thin, low quality meat), the teriyaki sauce was a little odd in texture/viscosity but it was not too sweet, which I appreciated. The miso soup is over seasoned but tasty. Sashimi was ok-- not super fresh, not old, small-medium cuts. Oddly, they used cabbage for half of what should have been fresh daikon. It is a little expensive for the quality, but if you're running errands and the need for sushi strikes, it should do the trick. Oh and they don't have happy hour anymore. read more

This is our home away from home Christina and staff have always made us feel at home, lovely greetings and remembering our likes. Our favorites include the house salad, the grilled broccoli and the tataki but everything is super fresh and clean. We always order soy paper vs seaweed in our rolls. One can taste the fish more that way. The happy hour can't be beat. Our son orders 20 white tuna hand rolls but we edit that order :-). The veggie tempura is divine if you're up for some fried food.
