A friend told me this is the best sushi restaurant in Marin , so I decided to try it . It has rolls I had never seen before , which made it a really new experience. The ceviche roll was my favorite. The crispy spicy tuna was also great . The crispy rice on the outside was crunchy , while the inside was soft and much better than what I've had at other places. We ordered seaweed salad, miso soup, a rainbow roll, and the sashimi plate plus one beer for pick up. We placed the order online. It was ready on time. No customerswas in the restaurant when I arrived to retrieve the order, but I was greeted with a, "who are you and what do you want?" I was handed the bag and that was it. The soup was watery; the seaweed salad was okay but didn't seem fresh; the rainbow roll was not cut through so it was difficult to separate the pieces; and the sashimi was unremarkable. The beer was good, but we were surprised that there was only one offering on the menu. Great sushi place. I finally got around to checking it out with my son for lunch. It's been on my list for a long time and it didn't disappoint. We ordered a lot of nigiri. We stopped by Keiko Fish for the first time while we were in the area, and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is super cute, very clean, and the service was exceptional--friendly and attentive from start to finish. We started with the crispy spicy tuna and fried onion albacore sashimi--both were flavorful, but the crispy tuna really stood out. For nigiri, we tried the hirame, sea bream, sweet shrimp, and black cod. The sea bream was a favorite, incredibly fresh. Keiko Fish is becoming one of my favorite places to visit in the Bay. I love driving there for a day trip to have a wonderful lunch and walking around the town of Larkspur. The staff is really nice and I have really enjoyed interacting with them. The rolls I love the most are the Dragon roll and spicy scallop. As for Nigiri, I recommend their black cod nigiri and Inari nigiri. There is seating inside the restaurant but you can always get your food to go and sit outside with your doggy. I love the picnic tables outside. read more

Keiko has so much to offer. We tried the crispy rice spicy tuna, yellowtail jalapeño appetizer, sparkling sake, miso soup, medium fatty tuna, and salmon nigiri- all very well prepared. The Wagyu nigiri with a bump of caviar on top is heavenly. The yellowtail scallion roll is delicious and simple. The service is quick and attentive. We saw that this place had great reviews, so we decided to stop in an early dinner on a Saturday night. Starting with the ambiance and location: the restaurant is very clean, so aesthetically pleasing to the eye and on the smaller size. There's a bar that seats probably 6ish people, and maybe 6-10 tables depending on party sizes. Super charming inside. Pretty decent street parking and family friendly (although it was kind of tough to squeeze our stroller in there). Service was good, could be better. Our waitress forgot to put in one of our orders, so we needed to remind her about it, and I actually overheard that she did the same thing with the table right next to us. They were all very friendly and food came out pretty quickly! The food was amazing. It's a smaller menu (which I prefer) and their omakase looked amazing. I'll have to try it next time. The Crispy Spicy Tuna is a must and their Spicy Tuna Handrolls are amazing. I love spicy tuna, but I find that most restaurants just mix the tuna with mostly sriracha and call it a day. Theirs is very flavorful, perfect amount of spicy and if there is sriracha in it, I couldn't taste it at all. We did some rolls and edamame and miso soup and it was all so good! A lunch stop recently, I had been looking for a good lunchtime sushi alternative in Marin. Found this place on Yelp - Keiko Fish is located just outside of the main downtown business stretch on Magnolia Avenue. For those who toil at the parking situation on Magnolia, you'll be pleased to know that this restaurant is located in a little cluster of shops that has ample parking behind it in a dedicated lot. There were a few other patrons enjoying lunch when I arrived, just after 12:30. I sat at the sushi bar - the space felt inviting. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine after a bit of a wait. I also ordered a special roll, called the Diablo roll (pretty certain - it's not in their regular menu). Shrimp tempura, scallop, crab and asparagus with eel sauce. I always want to try the salmon sashimi at a new sushi spot because for me that is what gives a sense of how things will taste on the whole. If the salmon is outstanding, it says something for me. They sell nigiri by the piece, so I ordered a shiro maguro and a hamachi - one each. Overall, the fish was clean, fresh and delicious. The salmon belly sashimi was very good -- definitely not the best I've ever had, but I would have it again. The nigiri was correctly proportional - not too much rice for a nice piece of fish. They did not provide wasabi with any of my food, and it was not on the table - no ginger either. I suppose I could have asked, but I was already kind of pressed for time. The roll - although tasty - was extremely hot. Honestly took away from the enjoyment. I liked the flavor combinations though. Overall, a very good lunch. I always feel disappointed expressing any challenges I have at a restaurant that has a great vibe and kind staff. But I will say that I waited 25 minutes to even order. That kind of put me under pressure timewise to start with. It all turned out fine, but I will definitely say they could use another person to help out, even with a small space. If one person has four tables going in various stages of being seated, served or cashing out, service is definitely going to take a step back. I also don't quite understand why my roll was so hot. I expect that the tempura was pre-done, as well as the scallop. Perhaps it was on the heat too long before being placed on top of the cut roll. Still, the very kind staff, the good food, decent wine and bubbles choices, convenient parking and relatively reasonable prices warrant a 4 star rating. Perhaps I will return and try a different roll and see how things go on a different day. read more

Nice space that formerly housed a hipster ice cream shop was repurposed by Keiko Fish. Keikos contains about 10 tables and a long sushi bar (a former ice cream counter, but you wouldn't know it) and from your seat you can see the action first hand. My favorite item was the tuna crunch with toasted rice, tuna, avocado and unagi sauce as a starter. Rolls ran about $20 but were large and much of the nigiri was about $6-$7 for a single piece of nigiri. The aesthetics in Keiko Fish are clean and bright: dark wood floors, modern cozy dining room, tons of windows. Fish here is plated nicely. The table setting was beautiful. Service seemed like it would be polished, but turned out to be unattentive: servers set down sushi without individual sushi plates or wasabi and ginger, and walked away, and had to be reminded. Tonight was my son's and my first visit to Keiko Fish, but it won't be our last! One of the customers at the shop where I work was raving about the quality today and while I'm not the most devoted sushi diner, my son is! We were offered seats at the sushi counter and gladly accepted. There was a small staff on hand for a Saturday night and it had the feeling of being a family restaurant, given how friendly and welcoming everyone was to us. We ordered a tuna roll and miso soup to start. The tuna rolls were tightly wrapped and had a perfect balance of rice and excellent quality tuna. I've rarely seen tuna come out of the kitchen such a deep red color. I tried the Fried Onion Albacore Sashimi and found it a fun combination of crispy onions, naturally sweet, with smooth, tasty albacore, garnished with micro greens. My son let it be known that he loves tuna and the sushi chef offered to make him a "special tuna roll"! It was delicious! Tuna, rice, cilantro, yuzu, and other deliciousness... I didn't catch all of the ingredients, but suffice it to say, it was beautiful, filling and well balanced. Everything that came out of the kitchen was meticulously and artistically presented. While I enjoyed everything I tried tonight, I'm already planning what I'd like to try for my next visit: vegetable roll to start and then the hamachi crudo! My son is 20 and on our way out he admitted some of the terms like omakase and crudo were unfamiliar to him and he didn't work up the nerve to inquire. "Omakase" means Chef's choice and crudo usually denotes that the seafood/meat has been prepared with oil, citrus or vinaigrette, rather than soy sauce. Alaya was our main server, although Keiko explained the specials options and finished our service. We met Derrick and Eric behind the counter as well. Everyone was friendly and exceedingly kind. Unlike some Japanese restaurants where sushi rolls and sashimi are offered alongside teriyaki or tempura, Keiko Fish focuses purely on the fish, although there are a few other choices. There are a lot of great sushi restaurants in the Bay Area, but none finer than Keiko Fish. The head chef Yoshi is also the owner and he is there every single day. The quality of the fish is incredibly high. And Yoshi makes his own ponzu sauce that is out of this world. Great service and ambiance too. They also have a great new Happy Hour menu. read more

Everything was spectacular here at Keiko Fish! By far the BEST sushi I've had in years. Tops my list for best sushi in Marin. But don't listen to me because I don't want it gaining too much popularity and becoming hard to get a table. lol. This place is pricey (honestly, worth every penny) so be careful when ordering because what's written on the white board/specials are sold by the piece not in pairs (which I think most are accustomed to) for this style is both brilliant and unfortunate. It's a great way to try new and unique pieces but not for your date, they don't get a bite. Trust me - this place is a superstar and I can't wait to indulge again soon. The staff was wonderful so friendly and knowledgeable even met the owner who's back behind the counter popping out fantastic dish after fantastic dish. Atmosphere is lovely, small, quaint and warm thanks to the open kitchen which also entertains the wondering eye. Had mid-tier Omakase dinner - Osaka ($70). Sat at the bar. Rating; A more fair rating for this place would have been 3.5 but yelp doesn't allow it. The total stars is a culmination of food, service, decor, and price (see below) Overall: they are not there yet. For the price point Keiko is tapping into mid to higher-end sushi joints. But the food flavors and service don't match the price. Mid level Omakase ($70) with one glass of Sake ($19), totaled up w tax and service to $114. For comparison, similarly priced Elephant Sushi in Hayes Valley leaves Keiko in the dust. And tbh, Samurai Sushi in Mill Valley, despite being much lower key joint is much better value. Keiko wants to be finer Sushi restaurant and I really hope they dial in their service and food flavoring. I may return to try their sushi rolls at some point, but for Omakase I'd look elsewhere. Food: - Nigiri: fish is high quality and fresh. Peaces were on a smaller side. IMO most of the nigiri were lacking flavor/seasoning - everything felt plain - as if the ratio of fish and its seasoning to rice was off. - baked muscle: too chewy. I would not order it stand alone. It was also brought to the table while nigiri were being worked on. The muscle is too overpowering compared to nigiri. It should have been staggered. - blue crab roll: boring. And it was very small - I would call it a hand roll. The amount of rice and seaweed hid the flavor of the crab. I would not order this stand alone. Service: mixed bag. - Courses: there were no courses. Food came to the table non stop. At one point I had the entire Omakase on the table, including a hot muscle which was getting cold. Courses should have been staggered. - Staff: The waiter was very polite. The person who answered the phone to take the reservation was nice and accommodating. But the staff behind the bar were a bit too relaxed - having loud convos, leaving their station to walk to the front of the house for no particular reason - didn't feel disciplined as you normally see at Omakase restaurants. Decor: - decor is decent. I wish I didn't sit at the bar because the counters behind the bar are a mess and not pleasant too look at. Better to sit at the table. - poor ventilation. not the best sushi in the world, surely, nor even the best i've eaten recently enough to still remember. that last belongs by the way, at least in my minimal sphere of life, to the many sushi bars and restaurants in greater Vancouver, where i have good reason to be more often now. but keiko is undeniably good quality, especially so for one of these places outside the city, away from the more discerning. keiko is in the suburbs, where people are a bit easier-to-please, who may eat raw fish as an afterthought, perhaps don't worry that the tab for dinner seems more than a bit high, and may even have had time to wait half an hour for a table. they will favor with their business a place like this despite such concerns. but no matter where we are, most of us can sense a mile away, and have an immediate dislike for, the one flaw for which i won't return to any restaurant that displays it: passive/aggressive arrogance. for me, keiko gets 3* with major demerits for server oblivion. matters not how good the fish may be. read more

Came here for dinner. Parking was a bit of a pain. I ended up having to park in a residential area and walking a bit over to the restaurant. I got the Tokyo omakase and then a tuna roll on the side. For Marin, this is pretty decent sushi. The omakase honestly didn't blow me away. However, service was friendly and efficient. For the price, I'd say you can definitely get better quality in SF and South Bay, but if you're craving sushi and don't want to go far, Keiko Fish isn't a bad spot. read more

My husband and I loved it. Very traditional Japanese food, light and clean. No heavy sauces. The food is pricey but you pay for the quality of the food. The sushi chef even customized a sushi for us since my husband is in a strict diet. We ordered the sashimi platter and I loved the Thai snapper the best. I've never eaten something so good. The crispy tuna was great and it could have been even better with a slice of jalapeño on top, next time I will request it. I ordered Miso soup and green tea. Definitely coming back. I really like Keiko. The sushi was good. And the staff is friendly and helpful. We went last night (a Saturday night) and it was busy so apparently lots of people like it. So why only 3 stars? Well, we sat near the door and the door has a slammer but does not close completely - it leaves a couple inch gap which is ample space for a cold wind to blow steadily on us when it wasn't fully closed. When the door is automatically pulled shut by the slammer most people assume it is fully closed. So nearly every time someone came in or out it was left open blowing a cold wind on us. We must have closed that door 20 times during dinner. The staff did close it sometimes before we got to it. Anyway, Keiko, you need to fix that door or remove the table near it. Please! And then next time you'll get full 5 starts. :-) read more
