Dear Kamps Propane Ownership Team,
As a homeowner in Greenwood, CA for over 8 years my wife and I are writing to share our unfortunate experience with Kamps Propane company. We are currently a will call customer with Ferrell Gas and decided to explore the current rates and specials which might exist elsewhere for propane services in our area. After phoning and speaking with Kevin at the Placerville office of Kamps he quoted me a first-time customer special which included waiving the first year annual tank rental fee. After discussing this with my wife we decided to take advantage of it as money is tight for everyone right now in this economy. Kevin assured me that he could fit us into a Thursday afternoon delivery and that a representative would be by on Wednesday to view our tank set up and handle the paper work. During our conversation I explained to Kevin that even though we are homeowners, we would need to be a will call customer and would pay as we go for service. My wife is a manager at Holiday Grocery in Cool, CA and I have two businesses which I run out of my home office. Our credit is not great right now like many in this economic crisis.
On Tuesday following my conversation with Kevin and booking our Thursday afternoon delivery I was suddenly visited by Michael, the local Kamps Propane rep and I'm glad I just happened to be at home as I was told he would not be here until Wednesday. His initial approach to me as a potential customer was shock that I could have possibly had Kevin in the office arrange a scheduled delivery date without his knowledge. He told me that it was highly unlikely that they would be able to do what Kevin promised me they could. Then he phoned Kevin at the office and was told that the delivery was in fact scheduled for Thursday afternoon. So we looked over our tank set-up and he had me complete the paperwork. Since we were a will call customer we did not have to include a SSN to run a credit report...but he did tell me that they will most likely run a "soft credit report". I'm not sure why considering we own our home and are VERY WELL KNOWN in the community, have two kids in high school and we are paying for service as we go. At any rate, being the previous owner of a national mortgage company I had to laugh.
So later the next morning I receive a phone call from Michael explaining that he forgot to have me sign the paperwork and was kind enough to come back out to the house for that. Then, later (today) Wednesday I receive a call from Michael again...this time telling me that the home office had denied our service request after running a soft credit report (whatever that means). Since building our home over 8 years ago...we have had propane services with both Surburban Propane and Ferrell Gas and have always paid our bills on time without question. How could we not? We are a will call, pay-as-you-go customer because we do not have a perfect 680+ FICO. I have to say that my wife and I have not yet witnessed such a below-average level of customer service from a "local company" who should be thrilled to have our business...but instead treats us as if we are criminals. This is should be a complete embarrassment to the owners and managers of the "family owned" Kamp's company. You should be ashamed of the way you treat your prospective customers (and most likely your current customers), making commitments and then making people feel that they are no worthy of your little propane company. Your employees do not seem to understand who is doing what and the end result is that you now have a local residential homeowner who has MANY contacts on hill between Cool, Pilot Hill, Georgetown, Greenwood, Garden Valley and Kelsey who will sharing this incredibly idiotic experience and the reality behind the way Kamp's Propane truly treats potential customers. We will be making sure to tell as many people as possible. In this economy you would think that a company like yours would be on its knees thanking us for our hard-earned investment in your company.
Very Truly Yours,
The Weatherly's
