I usually try and judge how much local Chinese people in front of the businesses and this place had a long line. I'm glad I checked it up because I was a very pleasantly surprised. The prices are very moderate and the roast pork was not only juicy, but had a very crunchy outer skin. Very good local meat market and my go to place for roast pork (see gee yuk?) and Char Siu. They do a very job and are pretty consistent with the quality of their product. Auntie, sorry, don't know her name, usually always gives you a small bite of the meat, either the char siu or roast pork, as a treat. Not sure if it's a way to say thank you, to keep you occupied while she cuts up the meat, or to show you the quality of her product. Kind of like smelling the cork on a fine wine. They also sell meat, hence the 'meat market" in the name. It it the roasted meats I come for. Good product and a good price with great service from a very nice and friendly lady. It's a bit hidden from the main streets but it's by far my favorite place to go for roast pork and roast duck! It's always been juicy and the flavor is consistently amazing. Earlier this year, one of our good regular customers at my part-time job came to us super early. How early do you ask? We open daily at 10am and he showed up at 840am. I just got through disarming our alarm system and I was tidying up the front of the house when I see this guy approaching our door. Business hours are from 10am so I didn't find the need to unlock the door but when I realized who it was, I walked over to the door. He had a bag in each hand and handed it over to me. The bags were heavy and was advised the food came from Chinatown. He went to pick up some things for home and also got food for us. I am truly blessed with such great people around me. When I asked where the food was from, he replied "You know, the place behind Fong's Meat Market on N King Street. I knew exactly where he's talking about but couldn't immediately recall the name. I was now on a mission: On my next visit to Chinatown, I would check this place out. Come to find out, this place is Kam's Meat Market (KMM), where they are a butcher shop selling assorted raw cuts of beef and pork on one side. Then on the other side, you'll see an a display case of of roast ducks, char siu pork and slabs of roast pork hanging with some whole shoyu chickens sitting. I recall coming here many blue moons ago when I was sent on a mission to get beef tongue in Chinatown. I walked around many shops in Chinatown until I finally came across KMM, where they do carry whole beef tongue. While waiting for my beef tongue, I vividly recall the staff trying to drum up business when she offered a sample of their roasted meats to a potential customer. The strategy worked because this led to a sale. Regarding the roast ducks, I would rate this in the Top 3 of what Oahu has to offer. The duck was seasoned well and meaty. The skin was pretty good, too. Because I ate the duck hours later since it was purchased, I need to further investigate by purchasing a fresh one and eat it sooner. Overall, a very pleasant find and a great alternative in the event I am looking for roast duck. I do have my go-to place but they are closed on major holidays. I wouldn't hesitate to patronize KMM and am curious to try their other prepared foods. read more

Kam's Meat Market is a little hole in the wall store in the old Oahu Market area. I usually let my wife choose which stall to buy our roast pork from and we go and look at the all the Chinese roast pork stalls before selecting one and returning to a stall. It seems like at least half of the time she chooses roast pork from Kam's based on the skin and fat content. There is usually a small line waiting to be helped but you won't wait very long. The tested version we got had the perfect fat content and beautiful crispy skin. Their char siu is pretty good too. read more

To kick off Spring break and a surprised Birthday lunch for my wonderful boss, I wanted to add in some roasted meats to the lunch menu. The original business I wanted to get them from closed on Mondays, so plan B was to stop at Fong's but they had no roast duck left but only roast pork. I purchased the roast pork and then looked to my right and saw roast duck hanging and available, at Kam's Meat Market. I was in need of roast duck as it was on the lunch menu, I did a quick Yelp search to check the reviews and read a Yelp's friend 5 star review, so I walked over to get a duck. The lady who helped me was friendly, she also gave me a sample of roast pork to try but I declined, since I still had my morning coffee, which I didn't want to mix. I got my roast duck, which was nicely chopped and package in the box. The price for the whole roast duck is 25.00, I was going to pay via credit card the lady mentioned she will charge me tax which is $26.25, I just gave her cash. Kam's Meat Market is located at Oahu Market, the open market, It is towards the middle after Fong's. It must be hard to have 3 of the same business that sale roasted meats so close-by together. I would love to support local and small business so I would alternate every time I need roasted meats. Kam's also sale fresh meats which I think the husband handles the fresh meats and the lady handles the roasted meats. I am worried about cross contamination with handling fresh and roasted meats. Besides Roast duck, roast pork, char siu, and shoyu chicken are also available. When I arrived at the office, I set up the spread for our office lunch, my co-workers enjoyed the duck. There were only a few pieces left. The duck was tasty & tender, the pieces I got, had a lot of meat to bone ratio and the skin was just perfect. The only thing I didn't like was the sauce, it was too light, but just my opinion. I am use to and love the duck sauce from the RDK. Overall, I will come back here again, now that I have more options for roasted meats, I have plans to try the rest of the roasted meats,( per other yelper's reviews) during my next visit. Kam's Meat Market is the place to go for Chinese roast meats. As years gone by, my favorite place is always changing. That's because the places I liked got worse. I liked Nam Fong, but their meats has become not tasty nor fresh. Fong's was very good for years then it got more and more popular, and then their meats became more fatty and more salty. I never cared for Char Siu House or Sing Hing, and Chun's isn't good at all, if you like dry and overcooked roast pork. Kam's is my new favorite and I have a strong belief it'll stay that way for a long time. Kam's Meat Market is located inside Oahu Market in Chinatown. You walk pass ACE Market and you're right there. You can't miss the hanging roast ducks and roast chickens. It's a small mom and pop operation, and the owners are very friendly and hardworking. You can see their dedication to their business in the food. Kam's also sells a variety of raw meats as well. The roast pork is the best! It is perfectly cooked with crispy skin, and juicy and tender and fresh meat that's not full of fat. There's a hint of sweetness too that really balances out the richness of the meat. I could eat five pounds of it! The roast duck is absolutely delicious! The meat was so tender and juicy and full of flavor. The duck wasn't very fatty. It was cooked perfectly. A lot of the fat was rendered down leaving a nice, thin skin. The sauce they provided was very tasty and complemented the duck very well. It was sweet soy concoction that just cut the richness and gaminess of the duck. Everything is $12/lb and half a duck is $12.50, $24 for a whole duck. I can't wait to try their other items such as the char siu, spareribs, roast chicken, and chicken wings. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! read more

Good solid Chinese meat place located in Oahu Market in Chinatown Honolulu. I've been on a quest for char siu and roast pork for a while now and Kam's is pretty good. The char siu was nice and fatty ... just how I like it but it was just a little sweet for my taste. The roast pork was flavorful but the skin wasn't crispy like Fong's. Fong's roast pork to me has been the best so far though their char siu was a bit too lean. Will continue on my quest for my favorite char siu and roast pork. read more

Best tasty and juicy Chinese Roast Pork w/crispy skin. We stumbled on this place when we were walking around the market waiting for our delicious poke bowls at 88 Fresh Fish Market. Since we already ordered poke bowls for lunch, we initially were thinking that we probably shouldn't buy the roast pork. I'm glad we decided to buy 1/4 lb to try anyway because it looked so good. It was such a wonderful treat as a snack later after our Pearl Harbor tour in the afternoon. Regretted not buying more.
