Can't even explain how much I love the food hear! Very authentic thai and soo delicious!

I think I've had thai food once since I moved out here, and this place is one of the worst I've been to. Service is lacking. The lady asked if I was ready to order, and when i said yes, she went to clean off two tables and came back. Besides me, there were two other patrons there. She took my order, confirmed it, and when I said thank you, she didn't reply as she walked away. The pad thai was equally horrible The noodles were clumped together, so I had to cut the clump with my fork. The spring rolls were bland and had way too much bamboo sprouts. The decor is decent, but ambiance does nothing really if the service and food are incredibly substandard. If it was an off day due to it being busy, I'd give this place two or three stars and maybe come back. With it being completely dead the night I went, not another chance. read more

A few dishes were not available and we got there around 7pm, dinner time. There were only like 8 people dining. Basically it was not busy. The papaya salad was decent, but the pad se ew was super salty, they do give you a lot of meat and veggies but the noodles soaked up all the salt and it was not edible. Order from this Thai place for delivery regularly and I love everything every time. Great portion sizes, flavor and delivery packaging. My go to orders are the red curry with pork, the tom kha with chicken, and the appetizer sampler. Would skip ordering with beef - too chewy for my taste. read more

My husband ordered the beef noodle soup, which turned out too sour and missing both the meatballs and cilantro. The addition of bell peppers was confusing and didn't fit the dish. Omg! I am so hungry and stopped by just a few minutes before closing and had such great food. I had spicy fried rice with shrimp and the kra pow tofu. The tofu was fried perfectly and the sauce was everything that I wanted. I planned to just taste it in the car and had a whole meal. I will def be back again and again. read more

I love Thai food so I decided to try a new spot. It was good but definitely not the best Thai food that I've had. The service was good and the lady working as the only waitress was super friendly. We were in town visiting for vacation. We were looking for a new place to try. Kanda came up and after looking through some reviews we decided to go ahead and try it. It was empty inside. Had an older smell like old rice or something going on. I was kinda hesitant but the fam said let's just order. We ended up ordering wonton soup, orange chicken, and the kung pao chicken (I think) . The food had great flavor. Soup was delicious. The dumpling was ok. It was enough food for 4 which includes 16 and 12 year old boys. Service was cool. I believe one person was serving and cleaning tables. She was quiet but really nice. We had waters to drink and Thai tea. Really sweet. Maybe, we'd eat here again. We've eaten at Kanda Thai on numerous occasions, but have not eaten there in the last 12 months. The food here had always been fresh, spicy and flavorful. We went for lunch on a weekday at about 2:30 in the afternoon. There was only one other person dining besides my wife and I. The waitress was standing at the counter watching something on her phone. It took her a while to come to the table where we were sitting. We both ordered Pad Thai noodles off of the lunch menu. The spring rolls that came with lunch were good. The salad was unremarkable, basically just chopped up lettuce. The noodles were a pile of overcooked mush. They were not fresh at all, they were bland, I'd go so far as to say they tasted like the odor of dirty socks. They seemed like leftovers from the day before that were reheated. They were not the least bit spicy, and when the waitress took our order, she did not ask if we wanted them spicy or mild. The tofu was way overcooked. There were no condiments on the table, and the waitress did not bring any with the food. My wife had to go to the counter and request the spices. While we're eating, we could hear a snipping noise. I asked my wife what that was. Her seat was facing the counter, and she said the waitress is standing at the counter, clipping her fingernails! The waitress finally finished clipping her 10 fingernails while we were still eating the tasteless mush. My wife said that when she was done clipping her fingernails, the waitress was rubbing something on her face, while still sitting at the counter. I was sitting facing the front window where I could see a transient shooting up next to the electric utility box across the street and then slumping over. After eating the lunch, we both experienced nausea. I know we should've sent the food back, but that is not something I'm accustomed to doing. I will do so in the future. The waitress did not come over to take my credit card to pay for the meal. The QR code on the bill took you to a website that you had to create a account to pay, which I was not going to do. Between my wife and I we got enough cash together to leave on the table and walked out the door. Overall, I'd say it was a memorable lunch, just not a good one. Bad food, bad ambience, bad service. I've tried their Spicy Fried Rice, Regular Fried Rice, and Pad See-Ew on different occasions, and each time, I've asked them to make it extra fried or more charred for that deep, smoky wok hei flavor. The Spicy Fried Rice is absolutely fantastic - bold, flavorful, and seriously spicy, which I loved. The Regular Fried Rice and Pad See-Ew are both solid choices in terms of flavor and texture, but they don't quite compare to the Spicy Fried Rice with that extra wok hei. It's easily becoming my go-to spot when I'm craving a great fried rice dish. Beyond the food, their prices are super affordable, and the service is consistently friendly, making it an even better experience. My company ordered catering from this pace and the quality of the food is worsen over the years. The dipping sauce for the spring roll is very sweet and plain. The string beans in Panang curry is not well cooked. The green curry is tasteless and vegetables are not well cooked. The Pad-see-ew is also sweet. The fried rice is not well seasoned. The only thing I guess my company is ordering from this place is either the one who ordered doesn't know how good Thai food taste or the price is very cheap. read more

I used to love this place before Covid. The food is absolutely amazing. The only problem is every time you go in there the service is abysmal. I always want to tip more because of how great the food is but you literally will have one lady for the whole area she doesn't serve you waters when you order a drink we end up getting our drinks after we got the appetizer she's on her phone the whole time and it's kind of crazy because this place used to have great service and amazing food... now the food is still amazing but the service like I don't even want to tip her because it's terrible. I mean she seems like a nice lady but somebody never taught her how to give service. And when we came in and we told her we were going to be sitting down it was almost like she was angry or disappointed that we weren't ordering out. This Thai restaurant is located in a strip mall so there is available parking. It has ample seating and a casual yet elegant feel to it, and lots of folks solo dining. However, the food was very mediocre. I will preface that I did pick up my order 20 min. after it was ready but I was still disappointed. -Papaya salad had a very odd aftertaste I couldn't put my finger on. -Pad Thai tasted fine but was way too greasy and the sauce wasn't sticking to the noodles due to the oil. The chicken was also very low quality and probably had been frozen for a while. -Fish cakes were good, but I probably wouldn't order again. I did see a lot of people have curry dishes that looked delicious in the restaurant so if I return, I may try a curry dish instead. Kanda Thai Cuisine is located in the Nordic Village Plaza along Midway Drive in Point Loma. From the outside the suite looks big, but the interior was not as spacious as I had imagined. Parking was reasonably easy as the lot is rarely completely filled with vehicles. Having eaten here previously, I decided to get some food to-go as I was passing by the area. The Spicy Noodles with beef and mild heat (three on a 1-10 scale) was my choice. The pan-fried rice noodles included basil leaves, scrambled eggs, garlic, onion and bell peppers. The spiciness was tame just as I had asked so that was fine. The portion size was good, however the price has significantly increased over the years from inflation and the pandemic. This item used to be $10.95 a long time ago. At one point, this business offered discount coupons which I don't think they provide anymore. The menu prices also differed if you looked at the Yelp listing compared to their business website compared to the hard copy take-out menu. Overall, I gave this restaurant a three star rating for the price, quality, and quantity of their Thai cuisine. read more

There was one other table dining in while we were there. Food took FORever.... Tom kha took 27 mins. 43 mins for the yellow curry and 50 mins for the pad Thai. We also got ginger tea and barely drank them because they tasted like packaged powdered ginger teas with tons of sugar. The Tom kha had okay flavor but had a weird smell. We weren't fans of the chilli oil added on top. The yellow curry also had okay flavor but was very watery. I thought the mix of actual chopped large pieces of carrot mixed with frozen little pieces of carrot was weird. The pad Thai was alright but nothing special. There was no music. I was craving Thai food when I met up with hubby for a weekday lunch break and decided to try Kanda Thai. We walked in and were immediately seated. The restaurant itself is very quiet despite there being a few tables eating there. They had lunch specials so we got the pad Thai and yellow curry. It was a pretty good deal for the amount of food we got and was quite tasty as well. Service was efficient and friendly- we were in and out within 40 minutes. It's a great local Thai spot and our absolute go-to. Their yellow curry and panang are both fantastic. I always order their Pad See Ew with beef - their spice level 3/5 comes out pretty spicy at times. Easy and convenient, there is always parking and tables readily available. I really wanted to love this place according to an add on instagram. my service dog and I drove a long way to get to kandu. when we walked in, no one greeted us and it wasn't busy in the least. all the sudden a gal came up and loudly stated 'no dogs'!!! my blood pressure rose! the restaurant 1. cannot deny us access and 2. a sign in the window says no dogs. service dogs with a purpose only. I said: don't you read your own signs? then some man came forward and said 'okay'. I chose a table away from the one other table with customers. it was filthy and sticky. got the table cleaned and read the sticky menu. ordered pad se ew with chicken. dish was made quickly. the chicken looked like sliced beef- and I questioned that. the dish had absolutely NO FLAVOR at all. looked like leftovers... nope. cannot recommend this place for the customer service and a dish that was so 'meh' I surely wouldn't come back. read more

They are great with gluten free items as well and alter whatever they can to be gluten free. The service was great and the food was prepared quickly. The restaurant is beautiful. This review is for take out of three dishes. The green curry was disappointing in that it was too sweet, had lots of oil floating around, and had too many green bell peppers. I thought it had to come with a plan before. The Penang curry was OK, but wasn't quite as smooth as the red curry, which is my favorite curry it here. Spicy noodles was fine. All dishes were with chicken. Not sure if the two curries were slightly off that night or if they always taste this way? Was in the area and searched for a place to eat. Tried this place out and I'm glad I did. I arrived 15 minutes till 8pm and it was quite on a Tuesday evening. I started with a small Tom Yum and ended with Pad Thai. Wow! I was extremely pleased with the flavors with every bite. The spice was right and the proteins were fresh. Outstanding and Bravo to the chef! I'm sorry, I gave 4 stars only due to the fact the the Sam all soup was $8 and the portion for the Pad Thai was pretty conservative. I have been to Kanda Thai several times, always for takeout, as it is the closest to my home. I have mixed feelings about the restaurant. I only went a couple of times pre-pandemic, a few times during, and, now, a few times since all reopened. I will say, it is never the most warm friendly greeting when you walk in, but lately it seems a bit warmer and the last person I spoke to on the phone when ordering was very nice. The restaurant, though open for dine-in, seems like it mainly caters to takeout, as only a few tables are open and others are occupied with storage of some sort. However, they do appear clean and avoid feeling cluttered. As far as the food goes, my favorite dishes that I order there are the curries, green and yellow, the Pad Thai, and the Tom Kha. I am not a fan of the spring rolls, though the flavor is good, it seems like they are wrapped in a way that the filling falls out while eating. My husband is a huge fan of orange chicken, and their orange chicken is heavily breaded, without much sauce, and nothing else in the mix. All in all, it is an "A-OK" restaurant that fills the craving for Thai food. It is clean and orders are prepared promptly. read more

I'm vegan thus don't consume fish sauce. Apparently according to the server, they can't make their red curry without fish sauce. Their noodles such as Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles can be made without fish sauce though. Unfortunately, they don't offer dairy-free options for their Thai Iced Tea. The Pad Thai with Fried Tofu was plentiful and flavorful though I noticed that half the fried tofu were darker in color (seems older) and the other half were lighter in color (fresher). read more
