My friend and I stopped by for lunch on a Sunday around 2 PM and were pleasantly surprised by their fantastic lunch special. You can choose either a soup or a rice dish, and it also comes with Thai tea and two egg rolls. The place was relatively quiet, but very clean and welcoming. There were a handful of tables occupied, and only one woman was taking orders, but she handled everything efficiently while still providing friendly service and excellent recommendations. Here's what we ordered: * Panang Curry: Absolutely phenomenal. My friend used to work in a Thai food truck and is very familiar with authentic Thai cuisine, and he couldn't stop talking about how good this curry was. Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. * Crab Fried Rice: I was torn between this and the pineapple fried rice, but I'm so glad I chose the crab fried rice. It was loaded with crab and the portion was enormous, easily enough for three meals. Excellent flavor and incredible value. * Egg Rolls: Crispy, delicious, and paired with a flavorful dipping sauce that made them even better. * Thai Tea: Perfectly made and absolutely delicious. While this restaurant just recently opened here (it was formerly an Indian shop), I was impressed by every aspect of our experience. They must have quickly addressed issues raised by a few other reviewers as I found none of the issues mentioned. In fact, I found it to be one of the best overall restaurant experiences we've had in the San Diego area. The fact that the restaurant is family-owned and not a chain makes it even more special that we support these local businesses. First, the food was nothing short of fantastic, delicious and cooked with less oil than we expected, which we appreciate. The worst thing that often spoils Asian food (Thai cuisine, but also Chinese) is everything being drowned in excessive oil, but it was not the case here. We ordered a number of dishes over two different visits, including Ginger Fish, Thai Fried Rice, Pad See Ew, Eggplant Basil, Pad Thai and Fried Tofu appetizers, and they all had a great balance of seasoning, still tasting great, but healthier than other shops. The Ginger fish had a generous portion of fish, but also ginger which we liked. The Basil eggplant and the fried rice also included a good supply of veggies and meat and other items on top of the rice, our kids can be picky, but they devoured this and it was a hit for everyone. The other aspect of the menu which we appreciated was that you could pretty much add anything to any dish. That is, if you're pescatarian, you can order fish with the basil or with the pad thai or the basil dish. Or if you're vegan, there's a vegan duck, tofu or veggie option. It's rare to have so many options available, useful if you have a mix of vegetarian, vegan and/or meat eaters in your group. The service was great, we came during lunch so perhaps we got more attentive service because it was less crowded, but our server greeted us with a smile, came over to check on us, and chatted with us that just added to the pleasant expereince. Also, because we came during lunch, there is a lunch special, which is a little confusing, but it is basically the same entrees as you would order for dinner, but the lunch special will include two egg rolls, a generous portion of soup (almost a bowl, more than a cup), and a Thai Iced tea. That's on top of the huge portions they serve for each entree. That was good value as everyone in our group got to have a soup, drink and appetizer without spending any extra. The shop itself was comfortable, there was some cultural decorations, but nothing stood out, nice enough to feel like a Thai restaurant, only issue may be with larger groups as many of the seating are booths that can seat 4, but there only seemed to be one table in the center for any group over 4. Overall, this is a place we are happy returning to and recommending to others. If you find any issues, I would make sure you mention it to the owner (who was there when we visited), as he was very open to feedback and I believe he is going to keep improving and make this a great place for the San Diego community to enjoy. read more

We tried the golden wings, the beef jerky, the papaya salad, the thai wontons, the tom yum, and the crab fried rice. Some other reviewer commented that their rice was not good. The tofu spring rolls are massive (think small burrito size) and packed with very fresh tasty veggies and served with a really good peanut sauce. The red curry was the best I've had in some time. You can taste the love the owners (husband and wife) put into their food. Todd and his wife are so hospitable, warm, and genuine. Even if the food would've been average (far from it--I lived in Thailand for a year and felt transported back), I'd still frequent this place based solely on their service. They were kind enough to bring me a Thai iced tea on them "because you can't have curry without it." Something I especially loved were the fresh flowers on every table--each one was unique, and it's just one example of how much thought and care they've put into creating such an inviting space. Their former location was takeout only, but now they have their cozy dining room, patio seating, and a large, private space for special events. I also really appreciate that they're open until midnight, because so many places close earlier than their posted hours when it's slow, and at 11:40 on a super foggy Tuesday night, I was the only one there. Hard PASS We went to this restaurant on accident. It used to be a Nepalis restaurant but changed. We decided to stay and try this new Thai place. Upon entering we noticed it smelled like a gas leak, and there were low hanging bright fluorescent lights over each table which weren't very comfortable for a restaurant. I went to wash my hands and noticed the toilet in the bathroom was not stable. We were very hungry so we stayed and tried to give it a chance. Heres where it really gets bad. My husband ordered a Sapporo beer and was brought something totally different. We didn't complain but it was obvious they knew it wasn't the right beer. My daughter's food was brought out at least 15 minutes before the rest of the food. She ordered pad Thai noodles, and the noodles were slimy and overcooked, not to mention the temperature wasn't right for freshly cooked food. The shrimp had the tails on and they weren't grilled. My husband and I sat waiting for our food thinking it would come out any minute. Instead someone came out from the kitchen and asked if I'd ordered fish soup or a fish dish. She stated her daughter took the order wrong. So all this time you mean to tell me my food wasn't being prepared ?? My husband's meal came out, small portions and the small pile of chicken looked dry and unappetizing. My food finally came out. it consisted of 5 small fried chicken tender strips covered in barely sautéed vegetables. The ginger was much too raw and thick for the plate. There was hardly and sauce...and the WORST part was the mushy "sticky rice". This was not the usual sticky rice that I've eaten my entire life. This seemed to be plain long grain cheap white rice oversteamed into a mushy mess. It was difficult to eat it with my hands and stuck to my fingers. I was brought out several plates of white rice along with the sticky rice, apparently there was miscommunication on which type of rice I ordered. But honestly all of their rice was bad. None of our dishes seemed hot enough. Vegetables were undercooked, sticky rice and noodles were overcooked. Sad to say but I don't think they'll last long. I saw a potential customer walk in then leave because no one greeted him. I saw two other gentleman sit down and have to call for the waitress so they could order because she was just not attentive at all. We never had our water refilled. All of our dishes were pale and unappetizing in appearance. We will never go back here. I think the cook is not ready for cooking at a restaurant and the service was lacking big time. Ambiance: 4/10. Too bright and just uncomfortable. Food: 4/10. Mushy, wrong temperature and undercooked vegetables or overcooked noodles. I really like this place. Family owned husband and wife team with a really tasty large Thai menu . Really comfortable and quiet setting with lots of booths and open seating for families and or couples. Food is awesome, i have tried about 5 dishes so far and they have all been really good. We ordered shrimp pad thai, chicken pad see ew, tofu ginger soup, and kao soi. The wok fried noodles were perfectly chewy and blossomed with flavor. Shrimp and chicken were cooked to the perfect texture. Tofu ginger soup was clear with light tones of ginger that didn't overpower the comfort of the soup. Kao soi was coconut-y rich and perfectly balanced with crispy noodles and pickled mustard greens. While the food was spectacular, they are minor compared to the service we received. Two things that always deter my appetite. Although the place looked quickly and poorly redecorated, I still decided to give the food a chance. Singha with a 32 oz mug. It looked quite funny only being a 3rd full, and I was not told they didn't have Sapporro at the time or given another option, which seemed quite dishonest. I was also never offered another beer. We were a party of 3 and only one plate came out in a timely matter. That was overcooked Pad Thai noodles. Quite some time later the waitress realized she took order wrong. The second and third plates came out after the first plate was ready for a to go pack. The other meals were ginger fish which was extremely over gingered, and a chicken plate that was somewhat small and dry with what was supposed to be sticky rice, but was just mushy white rice that was starchy and pasty. I watched a few customers arrive and leave because no one was at the front counter for a while. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and hoped for good service and food since the ambience was poor, but unfortunately it did not deliver. P.S.
