The new building looks fantastic. Place was jampacked just opened. My daughter had an issue with her coffee A coconut flavored coffee took her about 20 minutes they made it three or four times I would hold off on the copies for a week or two until they get settled. I'll have to tell you this on a lot of donuts my first choice was gone but I ended up with a strawberry glazed and it was fantastic. The aroma inside the donut store is incredible I think I gained 4 pounds just breathing. I think they're going to do fabulous here. I feel quite lucky to be married to a man who's waking thoughts on an Saturday morning at 5:30 am are, "I want Kanes". Still mostly asleep as he climbs back into bed, these few words started to form in my head. My only mumbled sleepy reply, "The original location or the new one? I think they're finally opened." As my husband researched more, Kane's opened their doors two days ago! Our adventure commences: Early to rise like these delicious and gorgeous doughnuts, we quickly hopped into the car and headed northbound on I95 towards Walnut Street towards Route 1. In this less than 15 minute trek, my mind wanders around of all the simple and inventive flavors that Kanes offers. It has been quite a while since I've returned back to my old stomping grounds. Passing by old and familiar business and seeing new construction gets a bit nostalgic. Seeing Hilltop's cactus no longer a steakhouse, but a chain restaurant brought a sobering feeling. But, I digress, I knew there was glory at the end of this road. I muttered to my husband who is driving, just look for the Orange Dinosaur. And, there it was! The new, vintage Kanes sign brought the light in our hearts that we needed before 6 AM. We pulled into the driveway as it directed us to the back of the building. My husband and I were more than eager get inside to see and celebrate its opening. YES. From opening the set of doors, you're overwhelmed with the fragrance of confections gently wafting in the air. It felt like you've reached the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The layout and the flow of this store is masterfully crafted to appeal to all your senses. Beautiful colors, clear signs and decorations, just a clean and open view from left to right and front to back. From the left, you'll have your selections of donuts and continuing down the line to the right, you'll find cold drinks, and by the registers, hot beverages coffee and premium coffee. Also, within seconds of entering, I was kindly greeted by I believe to be the Assistant Manager, Jennifer. So sweet and humbling, it was like being personally invited to the Queen's castle end enjoying the time you're there. Now, it was time to feed our craving. As an adventurous foodie type, I know for myself, nothing beats old fashioned donuts. They're tried and true, which is why I had the honey dipped (NOT glazed) and the chocolate coconut. For my husband, he chose the vibrant Pistachio and the Reese Cup, to which it came to $10 and change. As we sat down and took our first bite, the donut was just plushy and airy, also the size of nearly two of my palm-widths. There was a moment of silence as our eyelids lowered in simple satisfaction. Looking all around, I also noticed little pieces of facts on the walls as part of the decorations next the menu. LOVE is most likely the second obvious theme here, as it clearly is displayed above the napkin and utensil station. But, this is where I most definitely feel it. Kanes is a local business. Kanes is a brand. It has been established from the 1950s. But, these little facts from the wall, such as locally sourced ingredients, honey from a local beekeeper, locally milled flour, pure Vermont maple syrup, local dairy farms, and even the boxes are made locally. -These are the kinds of things that I cherish most in a business. To sustain a company is to help and grow other local companies. Other cool facts about this store: once the drive-thru is opened, you'll be able to touchscreen your order and pay right at the kiosk. It's like 1955 meets 2019. What could be better? As for any other thoughts and critiques, I see that at the utensil station, plastics are still being used. I understand that an initiative for zero-plastics and straws could be difficult on a small business, but I would love nothing more to see a campaign for biodegradable spoons, forks, knives, and straws. But other than that, I award all points for this store. Congrats on your opening. I know the public is highly anticipating for a big celebration! My only gripe is now that Kane's is soo GINORMOUS, they only have certain flavors monthly, I loved when you could walk in & just get your fave and thats it... The last few times I've gotten donuts from here has been so disappointing. It was their cake style donuts: chocolate honey dip, blueberry Maine and the red velvet. Kane's strikes the sweet spot: very large donuts including a great, classic Boston cream and many other beautiful-looking & inventive flavors (such as the creme brûlée: has an actual crackable brûlée top & filled with yummy custard).
