We stopped in Sunday morning around 9 and the place was packed! No parking, line almost out the door. That said, the line was moving quickly and the employees were very efficient given the crowd. I ordered a dozen including 2 of their flavor of the month donuts. The strawberry frosted was amazing as was the honey dip. All of their raised donuts were incredibly soft and fluffy. We got the chocolate honey dip too which was good, but you have to go with the raised donuts here. The creme brulee literally cracked as you bit into it just like a real creme brulee would. All in all, very good donuts and a great location. I'm sure they'll need some time to work out kinks as this is a brand new location however I thought they were already better than most and were headed in the right direction service wise. read more

Kane's donuts are delicious!! It's super convenient now that they are just on rt.1 plus they have the dinosaur. I can barely finish one donut so say what you want about the price but they are always handmade fresh and giant so I can not complain I think they are very worth it. read more

We were here Sep 4th, on a road trip. My husband has celiacs so we got a half dozen gluten-free donuts. Unfortunately he got "glutened" almost immediately after eating here. We watched the cashier change his gloves, so the cross-contamination came from something else. It looked like the donuts were on trays in the back and I don't know if they were next to normal gluten donuts or what but, yeah, if you have actual celiac and are sensitive to gluten cross-contamination I would not get the GF donuts here. Additionally they weren't even that good. He got a chocolate frosted one, which is a plain donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles, and it was very dry. Would be better if they glazed it first before frosting. Most of the donuts were pretty dry, honestly, though if they were glazed that seemed to lock in some moisture. The pumpkin spice donut, I will say, was quite good. I don't really like pumpkin spice things but the batter for that donut is spiced nicely, it's like a gingerbread cookie flavor. Next time we're in the area we'll try another donut shop with gluten-free offerings, this one was so-so at best, even if the donuts weren't cross-contaminated with gluten. read more

Kane's has arguably the best donuts in the Boston area, but their store leaves something to be desired. They've recently moved the ordering process from a counter where you can point to your selection and they immediately put it into a box, to a process where you place your order and it's sent to be boxed by another employee. My problem is that I was rushed at the counter to hurry up and make my selection when the donuts aren't even in front of me, but on the other side of customers behind me. I've also had my order messed up by this process. Of course it was made right, but the new process caused the issue in the first place. One additional comment: please have an option to not have bacon on the maple frosted donut that is offered daily. I understand lots of people love bacon, but the maple frosting speaks for itself. read more

I just came from Kanes on Broadway...........what has happened here? The Kanes in Saugus had a great selection back in the day, this place had a handful of donuts, AND at $3.00 a donut!! These donuts are not filled with caviar! The jelly was tiny, the boston crème heavy with hardly any crème in it! seriously, 3 people at the counter bantering back and forth not really paying attention to the customer. horrible attitudes. sorry but this is not the Kanes that was popular and made a fabulous donut, not sure what to call this place. Really disappointed with this new location. Went through the drive through this morning and there was zero customer service. When placing the order, it seemed like there were multiple people on the microphone goofing off making it difficult to place the order. Drove up and received even sloppier service. This location does not represent what Kane's donuts is AT ALL. The workers are some of the most miserable and rudest people i have ever met. They do not represent this great, family owned company at all. My friend, who has a milk allergy, and I planned to go there, so we called ahead to make sure they had options for her. The person who answered informed her that they had three donuts without milk: coconut, chocolate glazed, and regular glazed. However, we called the Lincoln Ave location, and ended up going to this location instead. When we reminded them of her allergy, they were extremely rude and would not even check their allergy sheet, which they are supposed to have on their wall. They refused to serve her until she called the other location and double checked with them. Even then, they still gave her extreme attitude while she ordered. Absolutely unprofessional, and NOT allergy friendly. We will not be coming back to this location and we do not recommend it to anyone. Very disappointed by this location. Their manager Elizabeth refused to take my boyfriend's breakfast sandwich order until I was done grabbing my donut. She didn't offer to ring him up for his sandwich separately. She made him to step aside when the place really wasn't that busy. (We were there at noon time on a weekday.) I don't care how much she smiles, I still felt she was rude. She didn't ask if I wanted a coffee or anything else (which I did). I expect that kind of customer service from a teenager. Not a manager. She absolutely made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. We paid for my donut and left. I do like the donuts from Kane's. Stopped at drive thru this morning a approximately 9am and ordered a regular coffee and a Sausage, egg and Cheese sandwich on a toasted bagel - big mistake. Coffee came right out sandwich approximately 10-12 minutes later. Just left this location. Been here a couple of times since they opened but today the manager on duty was on the register. She was not very welcome at all and when I asked another employee who she was so I could complain he stated "she's always like that". THESE DONUTS WERE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I thought they were just going to be like every other "speciality doughnut" but these we phenomenal with a great soft but flakey dough and just the right thickness and sweetness with the frosting. Even with the boston creme doughnut i always avoid filled doughnuts because they end up just having so much sugar and sweetness in them but not Kanes. I've had MUCH better! Kanes was good, 40 years ago when they actually made donuts that people want to eat. Now, their donut selection is horrible! No lemon, or jelly sticks, no regular powdered lemon. Just alot of disgusting donuts with toppings that are gross! First time having a Famed Kane's Donut! I got a chocolate glazed and coconut raised. They both were very good. Nice and fresh, the chocolate had a nice little crunch on the outside and the coconut was soft and chewy! Went in this morning to grab a donut for my little daughter and found the place incredibly disappointing. After going to the area with the "line starts here sign", we stood in front of the counter where one of the workers was standing for several minutes without acknowledging our presence whatsoever (with noone else in line). I then thought that since there was somebody at the other counter to the right, I would try my luck there. Once again, this person too did not even bother looking up. We stood there for a few minutes and I finally asked if I could get a donut. She looked up and told me the line was at the other counter. In the mean time, a large group, as well as a couple of other customers had stepped in and just as she was telling me to go back to the other counter, the first lady started taking a large order that included many different items. I said to the second lady that we had been waiting, but once again, she repeated that the line starts there. I would have left at this point, but did not want to disappoint the little one. Buying a $3.30 donut turned into a 20 minute undertaking. I suppose that we are in "the age of the donut", where every decent, old fashioned donut place has gotten so popular that charging outrageous prices while treating customers like dirt is perfectly acceptable. Do yourself a favor and go to Linda's in Belmont or Donuts with a Difference in Medford, where you can get similar quality donuts at a fraction of the price while not getting treated like dirt! read more
