I have visited the Winchester store many times. Muffins are all very good. The issues isn't the muffins ... The staff there are always nasty and owner must not care. I mention every visit that they should put a name tag in front of each muffin to speed up the ordering... I must waste my time and more importantly their time answering my inquires... what is that one , what is that muffin ? Does that have raisins on it ? Nuts? Dog shit in it? or whatever ? Wtf Or why are out of certain muffins ? Any In the back on racks? Put a sign up displaying a simple check mark of available muffins? One visit the nasty one at Winchester told me they were out yet I saw the muffin on a rack not yet ready to put out front? So this was my first visit to this Wakefield location ... same issues and staff nasty here too but a bit better as more mature employee? I ordered 6 muffins and wanted 2 in a separate box as a gift to someone and the other 4 in a different box...she puts the two in a bag... A bag ruins the gift look, damages frosting in muffins... they will not put any less than muffins in a box? I'll pay for the dam extra box? Or maybe a smart owner would have a small 2 muffin box? Asked for Boston cream ... out of them .. same as last visit to Winchester location where they were out of many options... Maybe if popular statistically ... then you bake more of them based on POS sales data ? Maybe seasonality affects the daily production forecasts? Maybe offer July 4th red white blue muffins, Halloween frosting, Thanksgiving? Christmas ? Then generate greater sales, The owner should hire a better manager of both locations and stick a dam name tag in display case for each muffin, train all employees in hospitality and importance to retain repeat customers? Owner probably now just mailing it in or letting the off spring to take or already took over ? Maybe sell just sell it off to a interested owner looking to expand, or Improve offerings , add high end croissants, pastries, quality cookies ... coffee and better options? Whatever... 4 years telling every visit to just put a f'n name tag in front of each muffin-so I don't need to ask.. especially for gluten free, nut free allergies conscience people... how about an ingredients sign for each muffin ? Small space with an even smaller parking lot and nowhere to sit-- possibly because seating would make the parking even more of a challenge. Nice array of muffins, though not labeled. Good muffins whose calling card for most is a layer of cream filling sandwiched in. -- Blueberry Muffin: Great crispness on the majestic overhang expansive enough to provide shelter from the rain. Nice subtle flavor that doesn't try to trick you with sugar, but it's lacking fat to make it sufficiently moist. Fruit seems frozen. No spheres with burst of juiciness. -- Gingerbread Muffin: More of a pumpkin spice flavor than full gingerbread. Similar characteristics in being a little dry, not being too sweet and having good crunch. The cream layer is a buttercream similar to white cake frosting, with maybe a hint of cream cheese. Good muffins worthy of the rotation, but I'd hesitate to say great. Beautiful to look at, though. Kudos to the team for moving the line efficiently. read more

Super cute little bakery with a little gift shop in the lobby. There's no seating so you'll have to take your muffins to go. The parking lot is def a bit small especially for peak business hours. The service was great the girl behind the counter was super helpful. I wish the muffin flavors were labeled on the case so it was easier to choose what I wanted. The muffins were good, more like dense cupcakes than muffins. Not super sweet which was nice. The strawberry shortcake muffin only had 3 strawberries in it which was a bit disappointing. I will travel for the baked goods here. 6 hour flight in fact. I grew up in the area and now live on the west coast and come here every time I'm back visiting. These are some of the best muffins and snacks around. I always bring some home with me too and have had it shipped. This is a small shop, but the service is fast and friendly. My favorite is the gingerbread loaf, the lemon poppyseed muffin with lemon curd is delicious, carrot cake....its all good. Highly recommend! read more

After hearing about this bakery from a coworker, I had to try it. I looked at reviews and made a pre order just in case it got busy. It was easy and the next day we went in early Saturday morning and it was not too busy initially. This is a small place with very friendly staff and a wide selection of delicious looking muffins, brownies, and cookies. Despite being early, they prepared our order. Got a chocolate dreme, chocolate chip, birthday cake, and apple. All were super flavorful and cooked to perfection. The chocolate dreme was my favorite with its buttercream frosting filled inside. I highly recommend this place and will 100% be back to get more muffins and try more of their selection. read more

The selection of muffins is good. The muffins are great and the staff is very nice. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. I had one rare glitch in my last visit (I've gone several dozen times and will return for sure): I ordered 3 apple muffins and 3 chocolate dreme muffins. I got the latter but instead of apple, I got raisins embedded in gingerbread with frosting. It might have been carrot. Not what I ordered and not what I would have ordered, ever. Gingerbread Construction company charged me twice for the same item. They have done this two years in a row now. My bank said there was fraud on the card and made me change the number, which caused a major hassle. It stopped all the orders I had made on the card and rendered the card unuseble for days afterwards until I went to the bank in person again. So, no food, no gas, no Christmas orders over the weekend. FInally, my own bank gave me back the money. The Gingerbread Construction Company wouldn't give me back the money even though this was their problem. Their system seems to mix up the addresses if you use two different addresses: one for paying and one for shipping. It kept changing the shipping address state to MA even though it was using the shipping address street as my daughter's in FL. I could see this was happening so I called them to correct the order. That's apparently when they said I rdered twice even though I made clear I was just CORRECTING the order. They then called me about the order because the address didn't make any sense and they were having trouble shipping the item to my daughter. But they wouldn't fix it. Cost me over $230 for a little $79 GIngerbread house and ruined the CHristmas season for me. I'll never order from them again. read more

The muffins here are so good that you'll be thinking about them for over 20 years. I know my parents have. They came here on their first visit to Massachusetts in the mid 90s and made it a priority stop when we visited again this year. We've ordered the Carrot, Blueberry Cranberry, Strawberry Shortcake, and Banana Walnut muffins. All of them have been nothing short of incredible. They're moist, filling, and not too sweet. The Carrot muffin is my favorite. I would probably skip the Strawberry Shortcake muffin to try something else next time. We came back each day we were in Massachusetts. These muffins are worth the 20+ year wait, flight, and drive. I'm excited that the loaves are available online to hold me over until my next visit! read more

Cookies also largely indistinguishable- difficult to discern the flavors- mostly just overly sweet. My husband with the crazy sweet tooth even agreed. I was so disappointed to see that a local bakery has veered so far from the original owners' intent. As a past resident of Wakefield, I have watched the business grow (and prices increase) over last 20 years. Today, after a three hour drive to meet my parents for a muffin and coffee, I discovered that the management has opted not to replace the small tables indoors post covid. There is no indoor or outdoor seating whatsoever. When asked to use the restroom we were informed that the restrooms have never been offered under any circumstances to customers. The manager and staff sent me to Cumberland Farms to use theirs. Cumberland Farms Management was dismayed to hear that the staff was sending their customers to use the restrooms. Perhaps the small business of Gingerbread muffins and houses and cookies has simply grown into a bigger but less friendly, less community minded business. read more

I gave four stars and not five as the service got off point and we were made to feel like we were annoying the staff member helping us. I'm visiting my sister and she wanted to stop and get muffins for us to have for breakfast the next day and thought we (my wife and I) would enjoy the muffins from here. Upon entering the store my wife got an important call she had to take so she stayed outside to take it. The rest of us went in and since it wasn't very busy a staff member was able to assist us right away. So my sister started making our selections and since I noticed that most of the muffins picked had some ingredients my wife and I don't care for too much I asked to change a couple. So we did and than my wife had finished her call and came in and saw something we hadn't selected and wanted to try... This is where things went south fast. By now the staff member was visibly annoyed with us and making the ugh just finish your order noises. Pressing on we had lost track of what choices we made, since we were getting two boxes, and we were trying ask the staff member to let us know what we had boxed and she pretty much just shut down at this point and was not communicating to us. Reluctantly, at our request, she brought the completed box to the counter so we were able to see which muffins we had chosen which in turn allowed us to quickly finish our order. This whole interaction damped the upbeat mode we had going into the shop and could have been avoided had the staff member just helped us without the disturbing reactions. Had we been rude to her or just trying to be disruptive I could understand her reaction... But we weren't and we were not holding up anyone behind us as it was not busy. This experience reminded me of the soup nazi episode on the Seinfeld TV show from the 80's and 90's. I kept waiting for her to tell us no muffins for you, you are banned for one year. Lol. Moving along, the muffins are delicious. I recommend them most definitely. Just make sure you know what you want before stepping up to the counter or... No muffins for you!! :-) read more

I probably wouldn't go back here. I ordered two muffin loaves, one carrot with cream cheese icing and the other a chocolate chip muffin loaf. Picked it up on Saturday the 23rd and put it in the freezer overnight (per instruction) and took them out a few hours ahead of our arrival where the were going to be used for Xmas Eve. The chocolate chip muffin loaf only had about two small slices taken from it, word must have gotten around because it was then I tasted it and it was so dry I could understand why it wasn't being eaten. The carrot muffin loaf simply had an "off" taste to it. Strange really as I tasted that one as well and it was almost as if there was an ingredient in there that didn't belong and for a carrot cake "muffin" was also dry. I don't know if they cooked and froze these too far ahead of the time they were selling them or what. My first time there and my last. The only thing that tasted fairly good was the cream cheese frosting on the "carrot cake muffin" loaf. Both loaves where what I would call "mealy" and not appetizing at all. I was very disappointed and a bit embarrassed and even made an apology to the few that ate it a bit. Sad really. A few years ago it was suggested to me by a friend so I thought I'd give it a go for Xmas Eve as I was bringing a dessert. Maybe 3 slices out of a combined two loaves and the rest I threw away.
