First visit since COVID to this charming but cramped and aging shop with over-the-counter service, about a dozen different muffins, and a single tiny table by the window. It's almost entirely takeout and on weekend mornings the line is as packed as a subway car during rush hour. The staff is efficient, courteous, and businesslike. I bought a box of muffins at opening and the whole box felt warm-- a great sign. -- Raspberry Chocolate Chip Muffin: I ate this in the shop shortly after opening, while it was still piping hot, with the raspberries nearly a liquid and the chips somewhat melty. Nice soft texture and good contrast of flavors. -- Blueberry Muffin: I broke off and sampled a piece a little later in the morning (okay, 15 minutes later). Still somewhat warm, with a sponginess leaning toward Play-Doh territory (not necessarily a bad thing), but overall good. Neither noticeably sugary nor noticeably buttery. Blueberries were closer to adequate than impressive. Good muffin but with no standout characteristic to hang your hat on. -- Cranberry Muffin: Probably the best of the bunch. The highest crown (though no overhang), with a crusty surface and a good amount of big cranberries on top. Decent understated flavor to the dough, almost biscuit-like. -- Chocolate Chip Muffin: Overloaded with chips on the top surface (I'd hesitate to call it a crown), with none below. Plain dough that's thankfully not overly sugared, but not particularly moist. These muffins aren't cheap. Once you factor in the tax and tip, it's close to $7 each, and we're not talking about particularly large muffins. If anything, they're small, with no overhang and no streusel. Nothing wrong with small (they're dense, so will still fill you up), but for the price it catches your attention, as does a "coffee house" with only one table. The muffins are a well-deserved 4 even without overhang and streusel, but the other aspects bring it to a 3. Best for local pick-up. read more

I've been to Bohemian Coffeehouse several times and it's one of my favorite coffee spots in the area! The seasonal lattes are always delicious so definitely recommend trying one of those. The real stars however are the baked goods. Their berry muffins have perfect crispy tops and are moist with a ton of fruit packed in them. It's a cozy and small space with only very limited seating so I recommend taking your order to go. Despite a small space, the staff is amazing and will definitely make you feel welcome so definitely check this spot out! read more

This is a tiny coffee shop that happens to also specialize in muffins. It is standing room only and can hold maybe 5-6 customers inside comfortably, making this place kind of exclusive. There is limited street parking in front of the store. I had to circle around because I am lazy and did not want to park in the commuter rail lot across the street. Overall, the experience was fine. The employees took my order and served me quickly. The blueberry muffins are amazing and they seemed to have a good variety of other flavors. Bottom line: this place is pricey, so I really need to be in a fresh-baked muffin kind of mood to come here. I got 3 muffins, a ham and cheese croissant, and a medium iced coffee and it came to about $28 after taxes. Not sure what each individual item cost, but I guess is it cheaper and easier than buying ingredients and making my own muffins at home. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops. They have delicious specials that are always changing. I've never had a coffee I didnt LOVE. I don't know the baristas name but they are typically there, short brown hair and so kind! Despite the small standing area the shop is so cute and cozy. As a baker, the muffins are some of the best I've ever had. I love stopping by before work to grab a snack. The chocolate chip coffee cake and raspberry chocolate chip muffins are absolutely incredible. Couldn't recommend this place enough! read more

Excellent coffee and baked goods at this hole-in-the-wall cafe. Creative, seasonal lattes included The Raven, a maple/pistachio latte with the perfect flavor balance and foam. One of the best almond croissants in the region, a beautiful, dense, flavor-packed indulgence. Han and cheese croissant aand other savory offerings rounded out the selections. Street parking, and a single table in this teensy and mega-popular place. In decent weather, there are several tables across the street for you to enjoy your drink and nosh. There is hardly room inside for many people to order, so the queue may be outside quickly. Do not let this deter you. It is crowded for good reason. Could not even snap a picture because ten people packed the place and blocked the views. A real gem where they know how to properly craft a cappuccino and a latte. Delicious find. read more

Quintessential little hidden gem coffee shop. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but when I do crave it I will only get it here. Iced almond milk latte with a shot of hazelnut--truly like drinking the nectar of the gods! Flavors are all perfectly balanced and the texture is velvety smooth. Staff is super friendly. They've been around for a while and they know what they're doing. Their muffins are also delicious and made fresh daily in-house; the same cannot be said for certain other "bakeries" in Melrose...As I mentioned before, it's a tiny place with one or two tables outside so most customers grab & go. Be patient if you visit during busy times (a surprisingly difficult concept for some to grasp) and pay close attention to their hours of business. read more

I have dreams about the wildberry muffin. I would never order that typically but one day it was all they had left and I tried it. I'm so happy I did. It was amazing. You can tell when you get a latte if they use good coffee because it just tastes different. A little more acidic than your usual syrupy lattes and just so good! Your average second-wave coffee shop that feels like it's straight out of the late 90s or early 2000s. Whole chalkboard dedicated to flavor shots, etc. I grabbed an iced tea here (they use MEM.) I picked Moroccan Mint. Once I left the cafe and sipped it, it was way too sickly sweet. It's weird that the iced tea is pre-sweetened. I could only take a few sips before the sweetness made me feel more nauseous and I ended up having to throw the whole thing out, which I was really bummed about. I used to brew this at a coffee shop I used to work at and it definitely does not need to be pre-sweetened. It completely covers up the mint. It's a shame that the delicious MEM tea leaves are covered up with sugar considering how high quality their selections are. They bake on-site, so it smelled great at least. If you've ever hosted a house party for Cinco de Mayo and positioned the bowl of guac down a hallway just wide enough for half a Shakira, you'll understand the ordering anxiety around close time at Bohemian Coffeehouse. To call it small is an understatement. Not that one would fault a coffeehouse with freshly baked goods, a selection of smoothies and I guess that java-based drink that other people quaff on the onset of fall (or three times a day, everyday) for being jammed, but for pete's sake, there could be order to the madness. We asked for smoothies (hers: a straw-banana over orange juice, mine: a Red, which features raspberries, strawberries, cayenne pepper and other red things) and got them, one at a time. In the interim, we noticed the waning muffin supply and hoped there'd be a blueberry and a banana chocolate chip by the time our smoothirista finished the blend. He didn't. Another couple, two behind us in line, snagged the last blue. A nod to excellent staff empathy, a staffer refused to charge us for the second muffin because of the abnormal pastry-snaking. Much appreciated! The total still hit the $14 mark sans muffin number two. Mighty pricey. The smoothies drank more like frosty juices, and the muffins are stuffed with promised ingredients (more berries than anything else in her Wild Berry offering - dayum!). It should be mentioned these muffins are more like breads, with nary a crumble in sight. Not that it takes away from the overall flava, but muffin aficionados might appreciate the heads up. Five star service, three star atmosphere, two star smoothies, three star muffins and three star pricing yield a... CALCULATOR! 3.2 stars. But I'll definitely head back next journey to the Fells, so expect an update. read more

I came here when it wasn't busy, my mother had her first "London fog" latte and loved it. I thought it was good too, it wasn't extremely sweet which was good. The iced coffee is nice and very mild. We split a wild berry muffin which was delicious! It was overall reasonably priced too. I was surprised at how small the place was though.
