It's a weird experience to look forward to going to the dentist... but I suspect the staff at Dr. Creaghe's office secretly conspire to make their patients have such a great experience that they actually *want* to come back! Weird, right?!? Every one of the staff members I have worked with there is super nice, friendly and competent. My hygienist (Patricia) is the best hygienist I have ever had. He is the only dentist I've known who checks in - later in the day - by phone, on one's progress after performing a specific dental procedure. Dr. Creaghe's assistant Linh, is well versed in her skills and approach as his "wing wo-man". His office manager, Alison, is extremely well versed in every facet of dentistry, and manages his practice with precision accuracy like a fine tuned piece of machinery. Along side Alison is Christine, arriving in 2020, is the first to greet you with her warm personality. And, dearest Patricia, the current dental hygienist, is efficient and gentle, while using the latest ultrasonic cleaning technology as did the hygienists before her. I went to Dr. Creaghe for a year or so. In that time he did 2 fillings for me. I told him I felt rough edges on my fillings, he did not agree with me. A year or two later, after switching dentists again, one of his fillings fell out. Now the second one needs replacing. In all my previous years of fillings, I never had one fall out or need replacing, and now both of the ones that Dr. Creaghe did have had issues within a couple of years. To be honest I have always loved going to the dentist. I don't know what it is but the overachiever in me leaves the dentist with a sense of accomplishment- clean and healthy teeth from my neurotic brushing habits! All kidding aside, Dr. Creaghe is amazing and my all time favorite dentist. A few years I was out running when a newbie cyclist ran into me from behind (don't even ask) and when I hit the ground I ended up biting down so hard my jaw locked up. Try racing the next day with a mouth you can barely open and in insane pain! It was nuts, I thought I was going to be eating my food from a straw for the rest of my life. On Monday when I was on the verge of freaking out I called Dr. Creaghe's office and I got an appointment right away. Dr. Creaghe calmed me down and said that eventually my jaw will relax and I will be able to open my mouth again. He had such a calming and jolly presence that I immediately felt better. I liked Dr. Creaghe so much I went back for my dental cleaning. I had x-rays done previously and the previous dentist wanted to do all this work on my teeth that I knew was unnecessary. Dr. Creaghe reviewed the x-rays and said my teeth looked great and there was nothing that needed to be done besides my yearly cleaning. The staff was great and I left with super clean teeth. My husband was having some pain in his teeth and a crown from one of his teeth had fallen out. We got an appointment for the same day and Dr. Creaghe set him up with a plan to get his teeth fixed. My husband HATES going to the dentist and having anything done to his teeth, but when we left Dr. Creaghe's office he was raving about how much he liked Dr. Creaghe and was excited about having a plan to get his teeth fixed. Wowza!!! Dr. Creagh and his staff are really great. Allison is the front end face of the practice and extremely kind, knowledgeable, and while she can seem slightly reserved initially, she is highly educated, and has a big heart. She really took all my questions and answered them patiently. Allison took immediate care of my financial concerns and when I needed an Endodontic referral she called them personally to get me squeezed in. I have to say I feel very taken care of and like they care. That means a lot to me especially when i pride myself on my smile and teeth I was really impressed with the office, it is a beautiful, clean space. I went in for a teeth whitening and crown, I explained that my insurance is lapsing and they squeezed me into any available space. I am posting before and afters of my teeth cleaning here. While I got my teeth whitened they covered me with a blanket and I had my own flat screen TV above and could also choose music. Dr. Creagh is so nice, he is exactly what I know of Southerners, being from Texas myself. He is kind, smart, explains everything, stands there and listens when you have questions, I was really put at ease and impressed by how seriously he takes dentistry and his practice. I will admit I love being spoiled by the bells and whistles, I really love the free parking, the personal TV and more importantly, the state of the art equipment. My biggest fear has been replacing my front crown for fear no one would be able to make one that would look more natural, yet Dr. Creagh has a machine that digitally scans your teeth to create the perfect color and if its not absolutely perfection, you better believe he has the best tooth painting artist there is in this area. My hometown dentist was all I have ever know, also very kind and good at what he did, he was family and I welcome this dentist into my Family as well. I am very happy I found them! Had my first visit with Dr. Creaghe and his amazing staff yesterday and was very pleased. I have had many less then stellar experiences in the past with various offices in Marin (Pacific Dental Group, I'm looking at you ) Alison, the office manager, was warm and welcoming and could not have been sweeter. My hygienist, Yvonne, was thorough but gentle and was very helpful in explaining every part of the process that was often glossed over by hygienist in the past. Dr. Creaghe came over to introduce himself, which was a nice touch as a new patient. Dr. Creaghe recently replaced an old crown for me. The first appointment was to remove the damaged one and drill some decay and get fitted for the new crown. COMPLETELY PAINLESS. Since I mentioned I was traveling before my next appointment a week later, he even gave me the mold for my tooth "just in case" if I had any problems and had to see a dentist while traveling. He called me that night to be sure everything was fine and I was comfortable. This week I went back to get my permanent crown. Again, he was friendly and efficient and COMPLETELY PAINLESS. Again I received a call from him that evening to make see all was fine and I was comfortable. I was also very impressed with the health and safety procedures he and his staff practiced. After two years, I feel like my mouth received a full remodel with triple pane windows, and a three-car-garage with rotating platform! Richard is just as wonderful now as he was on my very first visit: he explains everything as detailed as you want him to, is as gentle as you ask him to, and is extremely attentive. Over the years, I've come to realize that it's our job to tell our doctors and therapists what we need, what we want, and how we want it. Their job is to tell us whether that would work and give us advice. I always feel like I'm the most obnoxious patient because I ask so many questions, but I think the team enjoys sharing their knowledge with me :D After wisdom teeth pulled, crowns, and everything else short of getting braces... I can honestly say that I'm never going to another dentist again! I'm always clear on what is being done on each visit, what's being done next, what the charges will be, how insurance covers things (or not), scheduling, what can wait and what's more urgent. I love these guys, they're great. The staff is excellent and Allison (at the front desk) is amazing. Seriously amazing, she cannot be oversold. I really like Dr. Creaghe, and I'm one of those people who generally HATE going to the dentist. I'm kinda shocked at the two reviews that describe him as cold and robotic;I've never gotten that vibe AT ALL, and we make small talk every time I'm there. Absolutely the best Dentist in San Rafael and beyond. The staff is super professional, polite and friendly. Above all Dr Creaghe (pronounced "Cray") is the consummate perfectionist. As an example, at my last dentist when I had to have the mouth area frozen, the numbing would last for hours afterwards. Dr. Creaghe uses a technique that affects the smallest possible area, is totally painless and the numbing goes away within a half an hour. What a relief! No, never again. Someone recommended Dr. Creaghe, so my husband went to him two years ago for a second opinion to look at a painful tooth. Dr. Creaghe told him he needed two new crowns that my husband had just had put on by another dentist a few months prior, because he said they were done incorrectly. Paid $2,300 cash for two crowns. We don't have dental insurance. One tooth had pain on and off, but Dr. Creaghe convinced my husband that was normal. My husband's tooth never felt better, so he went back to Dr. Creaghe last week and asked him to honor his work. Dr. Creaghe said he just needed a teeth cleaning, so my husband paid $250 cash for a teeth cleaning and x-rays. My husband's crown that he has been complaining about this whole time fell off last night. He went back today to talk to Dr. Creaghe about his situation. It turns out that there was a cavity under the crown this whole time and now since it's been two years, the tooth has to be extracted because it wasn't fixed two years ago when it should have been in the first place. Dr. Creaghe still wouldn't honor his work and now my husband is going elsewhere to get the tooth extracted. We are pissed off to say the least. His staff, like Allison, are nice, but we have never had the experience of Dr. Creaghe being friendly. Standoffish, gruff and cold is more like it, besides not standing by his work. Also must give you a heads up. I had my teeth cleaned two years ago by his hygienist and she tried to convince me that I needed a deep cleaning because my "numbers" were high. I went to a different dentist two weeks ago to have my teeth cleaned and my "numbers" were low, no deep cleaning needed. I have been to a lot of dentists in my day. I went to one in boston that was a nightmare and almost pulled a tooth that didn't need to be pulled. I went to on in LA who was fantastic but for whatever reason I could never walk out of there without dropping over ~$1,000. And then I started going to Dr. Creaghe. Dr. Creaghe is the kind of dentist that you wish all dentists were like. If he was my childhood dentist I imagine that I would have wanted to be a dentist. Dr. Creaghe has put in a crown, 3 fillings and done multiple teeth cleanings for me and all went off without a hitch. And best of all, he was willing to "work" with me on the "no insurance" issue. Plus he is just an all around nice guy. My one complaint is that when he does the gum testing during a cleaning he really jacks up your gums and it can hurt. But then again I think that is because my gums are ultra sensitive and need a lot of work. I would recommend Dr. Creaghe to anyone that needs any type of dental work done. read more

I saw Dr. Creaghe this week to repair a chipped tooth and was pretty disappointed with the experience. I will start with the positive: his office staff, in particular, Lynn the dental assistant were professional and pleasant. His office location & parking are conveniently located in downtown San Rafael and office interior is modern and clean. My disappointment is with Dr. Creaghe himself, who I found to have a cold and almost robotic manner. He did not make any effort to get to know me as a patient and was not personable or pleasant by any means. When I went back a couple of days after my initial appointment to have him smooth out a rough patch on the tooth he repaired, he worked on it for a minute and then asked me how it felt, to which I replied, "Better, but I still feel a bit of roughness." He said, "Well that's as good as it's going to get." Then immediately moved my chair back to the upright position, essentially telling me that our appointment was over. Why did he bother asking me how it felt if he didn't intend on making any effort to improve it? I just wanted to get out of there and all I could think was, "This is a very strange man." Regardless of Dr. Creaghe's capabilities as a dentist, I would never go back to him for any reason. There are plenty of talented dentists around that actually treat their patients in a pleasant manner and aim for customer satisfaction. read more

Let me start this review by stating that Dr. Richard Creaghe is not just my dentist, he is also a personal friend. I tell this in the interest of full-disclosure, to lend credibility to the honesty of my review, and to provide insight beyond what other patients will see. As a dentist, Dr. Creaghe has been treating me and my wife for close to ten years. In my younger years, I followed my job to many different parts of the country. As a result, I've had the experience -- and sometimes the misfortune -- of being treated by many different dentists over the years. Of all the dentists, Dr. Creaghe is by far the most skilled, the most knowledgeable, and the most professional (he's also the only dentist I've ever known who makes a personal follow-up phone call to every patient at the end of the day). I am basing my opinions not only on my own experiences as his patient, but also from my observing him care for other patients while I'm being attended to by the hygienist. I should also mention Dr. Creaghe's staff: they are all competent, professional, and friendly. As Richard's friend, one thing that I am privy to is his passion for dentistry, even outside his practice. Unlike many dentists who treat dentistry as just a job (and whose skills stagnate after leaving dental school), Dr. Creaghe actually "lives" his profession. While all dentists licensed in California are required to complete 50 hours of continuing education every 2 years, Dr. Creaghe spends many weekend days in training seminars, attending far more than the required minimum. He does this to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques, procedures, and dental technologies. Often when Richard and I meet outside of work, he will enthusiastically tell me about some of the newest developments in dentistry. As I said, Dr Creaghe is passionate about his profession! Today is the second time that Dr. Creaghe has helped me out in a 'crunch'. The first time I needed a full root canal and crown. The crown he put in in 2005 is still great, I have had absolutely no problems at all with it. This time he worked me into his fully booked day to cap a tooth which I chipped eating olives. His work is very, very good, and he is always cheerful and professional, and more than happy to explain what he is doing, options, etc. The cap he put on my tooth today is completely unnoticeable, and feels natural. He had me in and out in 45 minutes, no shot required, once again he did not try to sell me anything. He is a credit to his profession. When my regular dentist retires, I will see him for everything. I went to see Dr. Creaghe recently for a checkup. Richard has been my dentist for years and always takes good care of me, only doing what needs doing and never more than needs to be done. On this visit he discovered that a crown on my back tooth needed replacing. Oh great, I thought, two more visits and trips back and forth from the City. But no! Richard asked if I had time to come back later. He explained that he had a new capability that enabled him to create the crown, on premise, and have it in that afternoon. This was exciting for me so I stuck around to witness the technology. I watched his dental milling machine automatically shape my crown out of a block of hardened porcelain that is tougher than metal, then came back to have it glued in that very afternoon. Very cool and very fast. The result was a better fitting crown and a more natural look, due to the fact that the entire crown is made of porcelain and done on-site. This was denistry at its best. Professional care backed by the latest technology to provide a fast, first-rate result. I would recommend Richard, no matter what, for his excellent care over the years, but this really boosted my opinion of him. read more

Dr Creaghe failed 2 root canals on me. Root canals have a 95% success rate. They were pre-molars. Even less chances of failure, there's only one root. Dr Creaghe also filled a molar. In 1 month, my molar was in immense pain. Dr Creaghe says he saw nothing wrong. Pain went away. 4 months later my tooth became abscessed. Pain went away because the nerves died. How this happen? He says he doesn't know. In distress, I need to know what happened because I completely changed my habits after the first 2 root canals. He blamed my prior habits that caused bone lost. He even said it might be genetics. I needed yet another root canal. Instead of referring me to a endodontist, Dr Creaghe insisted that he perform yet another root canal on me and to clean up a swelling failed root canal. Dr Creaghe said that after the root canal, he would refer me to get bone grafts to patch up the holes that killed the tooth. I opted to see a endodontist. I asked the endodontist how did this happen. He tells me there might be a crack under the filling. He mentions nothing about bone lost. I purposely didn't ask about the bone lost to see if he would bring it up. Nope! I started to get suspicious. I went to a different dentist. She also believes that the problem probably stemmed from the filling. I started to think, if my bone lost was so bad, how come Dr Creaghe didn't detect any issues in the 2 years as I saw him every 6 months? Why wasn't I told to get a bone graft before my tooth died? Is it just a coincidence that the tooth that died was the one he filled? Was this about not taking responsibility? I believe that he didn't want to mention anything that would indicate he might have something to do with the abscessed molar. The molar had 0 fillings, 0 decay and 0 pain before he filled it. He didn't detect any decay for 3 check ups. When Dr Creaghe insisted on performing the 3rd root canal and the clean up on a failed procedure instead of referring me to a person who does this procedure day in day out, to me that was him just wanting my money and was not in my best interest. How many times was he planning to be unsuccessful? I read online a dentist almost never perform a root canal re-treatment which he fails. I also remember Dr Creaghe screened me for invisaligns even though I didn't ask one. After talking to dental lawyers, I concluded that it was best to put this behind me, fix everything, not think about the bill, forget what happened and repress memories of ever having met this person. So I no longer ask "what happened to my tooth?" What ever it was, Dr Creaghe couldn't find it. It was probably under the filling. Whatever I do, the tooth is gone. Let it go. I leave this lengthy review because I believe potential patient has the rights to know what happened. In this recession, I'm sure a lot of people are having a hard time making ends meet. I don't think anyone deserves this. Oh yeah, I referred friend to Dr Creaghe before the ordeal. Dr Creaghe numbed the wrong side of his mouth. My friend had to tell him it was the wrong side. His whole face was numbed for the procedure. A silly mistake, but one that should never happen for a pro. For reviews who think Dr Creaghe is gentle. When comparing him to the endodontist, my new dentist, my friend's implant guy, I think he is actually rough, he just doesn't speak that way. He places a lot of his tools on your chest during procedures. Am I a tool chest to you?! haha. He ends every procedure with "I wasn't too rough with you was I? (big smile)" You say no, smile back and you forget all about it. He was just as gentle when he told me "Oh, if the antibiotics doesn't stop the swelling, oh we'll just open that tooth right up and clean it out, congratulations on the dental insurance! *shakes my hand* (big smile)" Yeah, sure lets just drill hole in my crown! its just $1800! Its no big deal! I got dental insurance now! Dental insurance is for me to use sparingly. Not for you to use when you fail Dr Creaghe. This review for me is closure for 2 terrible months, 1 root canal + crown, 2 root canal re-treatments, and a total of $5000 of dental bills. The failed procedures were paid w/ credit cards. When I had 0 room for failure, both of them failed. I would've paid more for a endodontist w/ the right tools and know-how. It was very evident to me that my endodontist's procedures were different, tools were different. My new dentist tells me she doesn't do root canal procedures anymore because the techniques were constantly evolving and the procedure requires a lot of experience. Leave it to the professionals.
