I found this hair salon on yelp as I was looking for a place to get a korean perm and haircut. As they are appointment only, you have to reach out by calling them, but I tried to text them, since the signal in my area was pretty bad, not really expecting them to reply. To my surprise, they replied to my texts and it was very easy to set up an appointment. I showed up on a Wednesday evening (around 4pm) and was promptly served. They washed my hair, followed by a haircut, then another wash, then perm, then wash, then another follow up haircut. Needless to say, they were very thorough and they also even provided snacks and water. This was a good experience and I would definitely come back if I'm looking for a korean perm in the area. I've gotten korean perms in the south bay, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Spain, and I would say this was one of the better experiences (albeit, I am also paying bay area pricing). read more

This is a follow-up to Linda's response. A true professional would be accountable and own up to their mistakes and not make false stories just to protect her image. I came in with high hopes and showed a picture. I articulated that I wanted the sides to be clean and tight; she left the top portion thicker which was uneven! She was flustered when I told her to fix it, yes, I moved my head several times because you shoved the razor onto my head. It was uncomfortable and aggressive. As mentioned, I have never been to a place that is this unprofessional. Claiming my scalp had a rash is inaccurate as I know I was never itchy before and this is common when salon do not clean their clipper/razor!! (unfortunately, this had to be my first experience and last). if anyone else had a poor experience, please do post!! Don't go through what I went through!! Not a professional, make up stories to save face, no integrity, highly unsanitary, and overall a bad business! Linda is nothing but amazing! I've been going to Linda for about ~3 years now. The first time I went to Linda, she asked me what I wanted and I told her to take the wheel and do whatever seems best fit; reassuringly, she nailed it and I've loved it. I've gone through multiple hairstyles and every time, she did not disappoint. I currently get a perm + haircut every 6 months with ~2-3 haircuts every ~4-6 weeks. She's always consistent. Quality is top notch all around. She's very personable. She's quite busy, so just follow the simple steps: call about 1 week ahead of time to schedule an appointment (if you know when you're going to have your next haircut, I usually schedule after I pay), arrive at scheduled appointment time (if scheduled at 10 am, walk through the door at 10 am). Do NOT come here. I literally cried in my car from how bad this haircut was. The bangs are choppy and DO NOT flow. They literally sit on my face and are so incredibly choppy I have no words to explain how brokenhearted I am. Before my hair was cut I SPECIFICALLY asked for light bangs and layers which I didn't want to be overly sharp. I showed her a reference image of what I wanted the bang to be. I said I wanted something light and not too much and Linda nodded and got to work. During the haircut, everything seemed to be going alright but when she got to my bangs she asked me where my part was and grabbed a huge lock of hair then cut straight across. My heart dropped. In denial, I told myself to trust the process and that she probably was going to fix it. She didn't. Firstly, she didn't even ask me how much bang I wanted. She just went ahead and chopped it WAY too short before even asking. Secondly, while she was trimming my hair I mentioned that I wanted face framing and for there to just be small strands of hair around my face to which she said okay. Secondly, while she was shaping my hair she used these scissors which really hurt. I think they were crocodile teeth scissors or something, but she was pulling my hair and using the edge of the scissors to go down it. This was a first for me because I've never had a haircut where the actual hair cutting process felt painful. Lastly, this was where I lost most of my hope. Linda "finished" cutting my bangs and they were extremely heavy and thick- nothing like the photo or what I asked for. When I saw that, I started freaking out internally but kept my composure. "Can we make the bang a little lighter it's really thick and heavy?" I asked. To this, Linda gave me a confused look and said "it's supposed to be like this". No, it is not supposed to look like this. I insisted on getting the bangs to be lighter to which Linda begrudgingly obliged and started to make the bangs lighter but it still looked really choppy. I asked her then if she could add some face framing (because up to this point she had not done so even though I specifically asked for it) to which she wrinkled her nose and did so. I mentioned that the bangs were still looking choppy and if there was any way to make them smoother and lighter to which she told me that she couldn't do that and it would just be shorter. I told her that I didn't want it shorter- just for it to flow more but she said she couldn't do so. I then mentioned how I'd like a layer to be higher (like in the photo) to which, Linda said it would "fly away" and not be nice. At this point I felt like everything had gone wrong and I just wanted to go home. She kept asking me "is the haircut OK? It's ok?" And I just smiled weakly and nodded. I felt sick and couldn't deal with it anymore. Then when it came time to pay it was $100 in cash, to which I forked up and quickly went back into my car. This was genuinely the WORST hair cut experience I've ever had. The environment is not relaxing or inviting, and the whole time there wasn't even music playing or anything it felt dead. I usually don't care about atmosphere as long as the haircut itself is nice but it felt like I was getting my hair cut at someone's house instead of at a salon. Part of the ceiling is missing and there's just a tarp covering the top and the salon itself was messy. There was absolutely NO communication. She didn't ask me how long I wanted my bangs, she just cut along and did what she wanted. The only 2 questions she asked were how long I wanted my hair and where my part was. Even when I showed her the pictures she just nodded and half heartedly looked at them. You can see my hair looks NOTHING like what I asked for. Save your time, money and hair and don't come here. If you want a simple cut with basic layers it should be fine but even so- why would you come here to get a basic haircut you could get at ulta??? The only reason why I came here was because my regular stylist wasn't in town and I was desperate to get my hair cut. Never. Again. I'm not returning here and I hope my story can save other people from a nightmare haircut. Edit as a response to the comment left by the owner: I did not ask for more of my bang to be cut. I said that the bang was very heavy AFTER she had already cut the length of my bang. I asked for it to be less heavy and for the bang to be smoothed out. To which Linda said that cutting it shorter would be an issue. I explained I did not want it any shorter but I'm not sure if she understood because English doesn't seem to be her first language. Also, you never asked me how short I wanted my bangs and just cut them. I'm not sure why you're saying otherwise? My hair looks NOTHING like the photo at all. Not recommended. This is for man's haircut. I've already done perm out of country. I only asked for shaving the sides and the back with less than half of an inch taken from the hair length all around. This is just maintenance to keep the perm and the length until I do the next one. The stylist failed to do a simple maintenance job on an already good haircut. Instead, she decided to cut a substantial amount of hair and ignore my request. The cut is very generic and just flat scissors cut all around; no texturing, no layering. The worst part is, my back hair wasn't sticking out before because I had sufficient length. Because this poor haircut, the side of my hair lost it's natural and flowdy connection to the back. More important, my back hair is sticking out like crazy (see picture 4). Picture 1 was when I got my perm and haircut out of country in mid-January. Picture 2 was right after I got a cut after 3 weeks of the January cut (some time in Feb). Picture 3 was the most recent cut from this place. ------------------------------------------------------------------- **Long story** I came to this location 3 times. The first time was great. The stylist helped me with the haircut and styling with curling iron. Happy with the first visit, I went back for another haircut. When I came back for the second time, I showed a picture of my desired cut (a side part blow flow; also the exact same cut I showed her at the first time). The stylist pointed out a perm would be needed because my hair is not long enough and not having enough volume (as compared to the picture). I agreed and pointed out I have curling iron at home that can do the wave with that during this time (to achieve the same result temporarily). I told her to give me a cut that will keep my current length and allow me to grow my hair. This time, she was rushing and gave me a very short and crude cut that lacked details and care. Even when she tried to style it, it was almost like trying to use the styling product as a glue to pad down the sticking hair and imperfection. I had my doubt at this moment. I grew my hair for 2 months to regain the length before I got my second cut. And knowing I had a planned trip to Asia where I can get good styling, I let this slide and gave her the benefits of the doubt. Maybe she was just too stressed or busy that day; it seemed like it. Now, when I came back for the third time, I think she either didn't care about my haircut or just simply didn't have the skills to cut it nicely. Like I mentioned about, I already had perm and only asked to shave the sides and back to keep things tidy. The top should have only a small amount of length reduction. (Read the details at the top of this comment). When she finished the cut, I challenged her why she cut it so short. She claimed that she had to do that to match side. It didn't have to. I said that she cut too much hair and I have way less hair (in length) left. She ridiculed me for making that statement and said how she can still style my hair. I also pointed out she cut up most of the permed hair. She said that I should just get another perm coming up, despite she reduced a lot of length. At this point, she cut at least 2 inches of my hair and changed the haircut/look completely. Again, I only asked for a maintenance job to clean up the sides. I was hoping to keep the length for a different type of haircut down the road. Now I completely lost confidence in this stylist. Maybe she does some good haircut for other folks. However, Her lack of attention to details, dismissal of customer's request, and being unprofessional when the customer showed concerns of the final product made me feel angry and write this review. read more

She did it in a way where there was basically no damage, and it was not overly curly, which I was really hoping for. I loved the result! Update: Linda is basically the only person I go to for a haircut (only exception was during the pandemic when all salons were closed). Even though I live 45 minutes away now, I still drive up for my appointments with her. I can go a long time between haircuts because she does a thorough job of putting in flattering layers so it always grows out really nice. I went back today after not seeing her for over a year (too much going on so I haven't been able to go to the area) and it was so nice that she remembered me, asked about my kids and even recalled how I part my hair haha. She's a great stylist and offers tips on how to style at home too - I got curtain bangs for the first time and she told me how to recreate the look she gave me with the blowout. I'll continue to go to her until she retires (which hopefully isn't anytime soon because I have no clue where I'd go ) read more

I grew up on 15 dollar haircuts from various Asian hair salons and the common issue across all these places is ultimately, the barber will do what they want, no matter what kind of requests you ask them. The haircut will turn out fine, even great, but it would never be what I exactly want. A couple of years ago, I decided to tap into my inner Korean and get myself a perm. So I grew my hair out ugly long and it came down to choosing a salon. I called a couple places, but it boiled down to Kanzi, where by chance I was able to get an appointment relatively quickly. I was spooked; I had never had a high end haircut before but it was amazing. Got the full shampoo treatment, the goofy curling things and the heat lamp, and a free soda (this was pre-covid). But what impressed me the most is Linda's knowledge and talent as a stylist and a barber. Usually, you get one or the other: you get a nice taper/fade and a whack top, or a nice hairstyle but a weak taper/fade. Linda has it all and she has an aesthetic eye that definitely fits my palate. She's the only barber I'm completely confident in saying "Do whatever you want, I trust you" (I do say this, but she insists on getting my input which I appreciate). Kanzi is a great place to get an amazing haircut and a great haircutting experience. I have some broken af Korean but Linda speaks fluently in both English and Korean, so I get a nice Korean lesson every time I go whenever we have a conversation. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. You get a fantastic cut that'll last for months and you support a genuinely remarkable small business owner.
