I have been to the location in Redwood City but saw an opening in Sunnyvale. Parking is very easy and it's relatively close to the 101 highway. Ava did a meticulous job with my manicure. It took around 2 hours and I got a cool watercolor design with builder gel. She cleaned up my nails quite well too. I've gone to her a few times for other design. I was incredibly frustrated with my previous nail art, so I decided to commit to revisiting Hi Nail since they had done a great job on my grad nails. Revisited this location and booked a gel minimal design with Yaxin. I'd recommend coming here and not being in a hurry or having commitments immediately after, because I was quoted at around 90+ minutes and ended up taking approximately 2 hours. This is what I expected, but for someone who hasn't done their nails as frequently, that might be daunting. I showed her three designs that I wanted separately and she got to work. I'm satisfied with how each nail ended up except one. It had a quilted design and I don't think she pressed down hard enough into the gel, because it ended up rising after being cured and now has a pretty smooth consistency despite the image I sent. I was quoted at around $85, but after $10 for removal of a foreign design and $5 each for nail art on 6 fingers (I think charging $5 for the stickers should not have been the same as the actual nail art nails), and $10 for French tip nails, I paid $150 after tax and tip. This was my first time coming here. They are by appointment only. I had a wonderful experience here, they took their time with me to make sure everything was perfect. The nail technician paid attention to details and listened to me as well. I usually don't like getting my nails done because my cuticles are often cut too short and can bleed. I have also had instances where they cut my ingrown toenails which is painful when it grows back. I also love the ambience of this spot as well, there is no excessive stimulation where everything is sitting closely to you and the technicians rush to get you out so they can bring in more customers. This is a review for their Pedicure service only. You get very little done for what you pay. One gel color and removal cost me $70 (tips not included). They use a normal bucket and not one of those jets. The lady (Yaxin) who helped me with my service seems to be having a bad day even though I showed up early and waited patiently for her to finish up her last appointment and set up for mine. Yaxin also didn't really engage much. She casually brought me a few colors to choose from, didn't offer me water, literally no customer service at all. The entire time I was there I felt like I was being a nuance to her! My service lasted about 35 mins and I had to ask her if she was done or not. As I was trying to get out of the chair, she offered no help and just watched me fumbled around to get to my shoes. I'm just disappointed because I had high hopes for this place and wanted to try somewhere new after seeing a friend gave high review for their manicure nail arts. My experience here was honestly really disappointing--especially since this was for my wedding. I came in with my friends to get our nails done, something we had been looking forward to for months. We booked well in advance and even sent in my nail inspo pic a month ahead, so I expected things to go smoothly. I was supposed to get detailed nail art over a cat eye base, and my friend was getting a simpler two-toned cat eye look. We told the staff twice before starting that I was the one getting the nail art. Somehow, they still ended up switching us. This was actually my first time getting my nails done, so I didn't really know what to expect. Initially, the vibe was very pleasant, but things turned sour after I realized that there was a huge mistake. When my nail tech stopped after just doing the cat eye base, I was surprised--but assumed maybe more would be added later. Instead, I was told I was done and sent off. When we pointed out the mix-up, the staff basically said there wasn't enough time to fix it--even though we'd booked plenty of time. They also tried to say we hadn't made it clear who was getting what, which just wasn't true. This was supposed to be a fun, meaningful moment before my big day--and instead, I walked out feeling upset and let down. Pros: the nail doesn't chip and it looks really pretty for a long time. Cons: expensive and my recent experience was quite disappointing. I was running late which I called and let them know about, they agreed that 15 min is ok. It was 20 min which is just 5 min over the time I called. I would understand if they said no on the phone straight away but they didn't. They refused to do my nails because there isn't enough time although the appointment is booked for 60 min and last time my nails took 40 min and my wife's 30 min. They agreed to take my nails off - which is $30. $30 to take your gel off without manicure treatment is quite pricey, it took 15 min unnecessarily. Bummer honestly. I will still probably be back hoping for a better experience since this is the only gel that doesn't come off after 10 days. read more

I texted an inspo photo before I booked an appt. I drove 40 mins here thinking it would be worth it. I wanted the raspberry chrome color but instead I left with something very different. She painted one finger, then I mentioned it looked a little too dark and red before she painted the rest, but she reassured that the color would change once she puts the chrome on top. So I trusted the process. You can see the final result looks totally different from my inspiration image, and the nail tech was also aware of that, and even gave me a $20 discount. I still paid $80 plus a tip because I felt bad that she still took the time to work on my nails. This is usually a great spot and reliable but I asked for red nails today (see photo) for Chinese New Year & my birthday party today... and got purple.... A bit disappointed for the color mismatch and the girl also charged me $10 more (totaling $90!! From the original $80) given she even layered to get a color match. I can deal with it just sad with my expectation not being met today especially since my dress was red. $190 (including tip) for 2 people's appointments (both booked under my 1 name). 1 was supposed to be a art design and the other was just a cat eye. I said in the beginning when walking into our appt that my friend's is a nail art, but they still mixed up both of us. This was a bad first time experience to a nail salon for my friend and these are for her wedding nails! Mines was a cat eye design with a color on the top half and the bottom half just had a nude pink. Is this still considered nail art? I don't know, but it was very simple imo. When making an appt, they want to receive the art design, which they did, and it was nothing like what I had. How did they not notice that what I wanted wasn't the design originally sent? I finished first between the two of us, so I paid first for the both of us. My friend finished shortly after and all she had was a cat eye (it's her first time going), so she was confused when they said it was done and she didn't get the design she wanted. All they were able to do was put a bit of gold for the French tip on top afterwards due to time. They didn't ask for more money for that, but I still feel like I paid too much for them. Also side note, I noticed that my nail tech didn't wear gloves, but the other ones did have it, and the nail oil they used at the end, the applicator (that was in the nail oil bottle) was put on directly on my nails/fingers. Who knows how many people had that put on as well. Even in skincare, you'd know that that can lead to mold. I'm very dissatisfied and I don't recommend. read more

I wanted nails to match my bathing suit for a summer vacation so I literally brought in my bathing suit so she could hand draw a design to match the coloring and everything. I would totally come back for special occasions - wedding, birthday, photo shoots, etc. would also be fun for bachelorette or girl's day! If I could afford to come regularly, I would! But 100% you get what you pay for because it's truly special. They lasted forever too. I would recommend going back for the removal if you're not use to using gel builder. read more

You pay a pretty penny, but what you get is pretty subpar. - Your feet basically get put into a bucket with plastic wrap (no spa jets, or salts in the water) - Super rough with my nail beds, where it felt raw after - Dunno what or how they did my pedicure, but one of my toenails which has never had a problem, now feels inflamed/sensitive - Instead of asking you to place your feet or hands a certain way, I got tugged around, so the mani/pedi was not comfortable - Don't expect anyone to talk to you or check in with you because they are too busy talking in Chinese to each other I will not be back, but I am sure they won't mind because, from what I saw, they are getting business. read more

Found this location on Yelp ~ called around 1:30pm and left a message hoping to get in later today or tomorrow. Ava called me back around 3:30pm as they had a cancellation and asked if I could come in, so I jumped in my car and headed over. Of course, there was traffic so I called back letting her know it would take longer than anticipated ~ she was very gracious and told me not to rush. I arrived a half hour later and was warmly greeted and asked to wash my hands before being seated. I very rarely get manicures (mainly pedicures), but I was intrigued by the Japanese nail designs yet also wanted something simple and natural. After discussing, I was just going to get a French manicure but then noticed Ava's nails and really liked them, so I opted for the reinforced gel manicure with a nude color and subtle glitter powder. There was only one other client, so it was quiet as we did not talk much but it was comfortable. The salon is very clean with a minimalist, spa-like feel and decor. Ava worked meticulously and was very gentle as I have sensitive nails/cuticles which she paid extra attention to and I just LOVE how it turned out!! Yes it's pricier than other places but it's so worth it - the attention to detail, the time she spent on them, and the end result is flawless!! I am so so impressed with the gentleness and skillfulness of the nail artists here. They are truly ARTISTS - just look at the pictures. I never felt rushed (even when I was a bit late.. sorry!), and each were so patient to get everything perfect. I've gotten nail extensions, nail art, and gel removal from different technicians here, and they were all highly skilled with state of the art tools. In other salons, I may have to ask for them to fix minor issues, but here they make sure everything is up to *their* standard. My last technician even pre-emptively warned me that thick gel might hurt if it's cured, and make sure to time the curing in short bursts so that I was comfortable. Prices are high, but seriously they're the best of the best. They can take one look at a complicated design and replicate it. This is the place to splurge. I will say though, it probably elevates your experience if you know Mandarin. Mostly because the technicians are all friends with each other and their banter is pretty funny, but you definitely don't need Chinese to get fantastic nails! read more

I've been to Hi Nail twice and always so pleased with the outcome! Booking is way to do online, however if I'm unsure what to book, they're a simple text message away. I've done the ombré design without the extensions my first visit and the amount of compliments I would get, even a month later, were outstanding. I love how forgiving the nail polish grew with my nails so it wasn't obvious how old the polish was unless you looked closely. My second visit, I decided to try the nail extension with ombré design. I'm absolutely blown away with how light the extension is and how well it blends into my nail bed. Aside from getting used to the length, my nails look and feel seamless. I decided to give Hi-Nail another try and it was a waste of my time. I fell in love with a Korean/Japanese nail place in Denver and was trying to find something that compared. They've dropped the ball every time. I got a plain gel manicure today and the nail tech I saw was on the phone the whole time and it seemed like she was putting in half the effort. She checked the length with me before installing them and also warned ahead of time that the manga style lashes that I wanted to get tend to start looking messy once the spikes disperse, so I knew what to expect after the first week or so. The retention ended up being great though so I came back to her for my 2wk fills. She did mention that if I wanted to change the curl or length, she would need to remove the entire set and install a new one to avoid unevenness. So that's something to keep in mind. read more

My nail tech was wearing a bandage on her finger that made it hard for her to do nails and I feel as if I didn't get the same quality of work because it was in the way. The nail techs are all so skilled and detailed-oriented, which I appreciate greatly. My nails came out so smooth and natural, especially for extensions. They also lasted super long! It's definitely pricey and lengthy, but honestly very worth it for a special occasion (or self-present)! Just look at that detail on that ring finger. One thing I would definitely mention is that all of the manicurists mostly only speak Mandarin Chinese, but limited communication in English is still doable if you bring exact reference photos. I can speak and understand Mandarin and I had photos of the exact design I wanted for each nail, and Lara was able to replicate each nail almost perfectly. She took a long time to prep, file, buff, and shape my nails, preserving my natural length and making sure I liked the length and shape before continuing. It'd been well over a year since I'd treated myself to a manicure and I honestly felt lw bad for cheating on my OG nail lady but she doesn't do gel extensions so there I was. In the end I wasn't even tripping because look at these claws! Ava took care of me and she was incredibly gentle and meticulous.
