We picked up some gear from this store and were greeted by one of the owners, Mike, when we got to the island - He had a huge smile and was very pleasant and sweet with fantastic service. In addition, they have a huge selection of high quality inventory at great prices that can't be beaten anywhere else on the island. A week later when coming to return our snorkel gear, we had a different experience as follows: While the owners were out on vacation, they changed their hours from opening at 8am to 9am. This was written on a piece of computer paper with a sharpie and taped to the door - no big deal, we grabbed some coffee, went for a walk and came back at 9:15... Keep in mind, we returned 15 minutes after their revised opening time posted on the front door at 9:15. With the windows open and door unlocked, we strolled in thinking they were open; however, nobody was in sight so I poked around for a minute looking for someone and hollered a few times with no response and nobody in sight. After a few minutes of waiting in the front room of the store, I grabbed a pen and was looking for a piece of paper to write a simple note to say "rental return from John Doe - Had a great time, thanks!" After I found a pen on the messy counter, the "worker" strolled through the front door looking a bit trashed from the night before with a coffee and pastry in hand appearing startled by my wife and I in the front room... He didn't say a singly word back as my wife said hello. Shortly to follow, I mentioned I was returning some equipment and nobody was around so I was going to write a note returning it. The worker was clearly upset we were in the store and did not say a word - Just gave me a blank stare that he was seconds away from doing something he would shortly regret... I did my best to say we were kindly returning some equipment and was trying to make small talk asking if they had changed the hours recently - This was followed with a rude sigh and mumble stating "yeah, the owners are on vacation." Cool beans man. He grabbed the bag of snorkel gear and literally threw it over the back counter onto the floor... We said thank you and continued our "adventure" out the front door. My wife and I walked out surprised by the guys harsh and negative attitude. We got outside and my gal mentioned, well, at least we killed the guy with kindness. Note to the sweet owners of this fantastic gem - You guys are hospitable and have a great store accompanied with great prices and selection - But when heading out of town on vacation next time, don't leave your store to be tended by a washed up beach bum that rolls in late, appears hung over, is rude to your customers and throws your inventory on the floor like its garbage. read more

RENT A CRUISER! This experience was super-friendly, very chill, and true to the multiple recommendations that got us there in the first place. Also price-worthy and warm people quick to accommodate us in a pinch, the workers ensured our last 2 hours on the island were a BLAST! Biggest, mango eating smiles of the vaca!!! A resident and friend advised me to "DO THIS WHILE YOU'RE HERE, (if you're near Kapa'a for a couple hours)!" He lives in Princeville and frequents reliving the exhilarating activity. Cheap, laid-back, and like no other experience. With emphasis on value, the bike fleet is all new, as the owners have invested in the equipment. Aluminum cruisers, sized appropriately, we only adjusted the seat and rode away grinning!!! :) -Just sit back, take some sweets and a drink and enjoy the breeze. -They will provide a basket on the hbars if needed. Say hello to the black kitty and dog in the front yard, too. Kapaa Beach Shop is simple to find - right on "the main highway." Look for the Bike Rental sign. Thanks KBS! This shop is fantastic. My husband and I spent a week on Kauai for our honeymoon. We looked up different equipment rentals ahead of time and found Kauai Beach Shop. They had the best reviews and rental prices of others in the area. So we called ahead with a few questions. They were so kind and gave us a lot of good information. They are closed on Saturdays (our first day on the island) so on Sunday we went to rent our equipment. We got complete snorkel sets, boogy boards and beach chairs. They were in fantastic condition. High quality items. And the owner spent time with us making sure we knew how to use all of the snorkel gear. In and out in less than 10 min. The return was just as easy. Next trip to Kauai and we will be sure to rent from them again. read more

All your rental needs in one shop. Mask,fins,chairs bikes, you name it they got it!! Local owned and operated. The owners are amazing and really knowledgeable about the entire island. We rented bikes first so we could enjoy the kealia bike path which is located just behind the shop. We then got back from our ride and decided to get some gear for the weekend. Both owners helped us pick out snorkels and fins for the family. Then we got beach chairs and boogie boards as well. Everything was in great, if not new condition and super reasonably priced. We are so glad the staff at Kenji Burger(great place as well) recommend this place. It really made our trip! read more

I was so impressed with this shop and their customer service. Mike and Janie were so kind and helpful. I really love this shop for renting bikes to ride along the Kapaa Beach Trail because they stay open later than most shops and we are able to do sunset rides. This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful rides on the island. The bikes were awesome, the customer service was amazing and our overall experience the two times we have rented was fabulous! Janie even offered us free papayas! These two business owners really have true aloha spirit! I would highly recommend them and I will be back! Mahalo!!!! read more

I was on the island visiting a friend and we wanted to rent bikes to rent to ride along the coast - Kapaa Beach Shop was closed at the time we went but the owner was SO sweet and told us just to pick out a bike and enjoy...! She refused our money and made a huge impact on my vacation out there. Even more amazing was that she told my husband that the bike he picked out was the very one that Brett Farve had a week before! Mike's Kapaa Beach Shop is a good as you get when it comes to customer service, equipment and pricing! The snorkel equipment was quality and clean. Mike also took the time to make sure everything fit properly, how to use it and proper safety precautions while swimming in the ocean. He also took the time to talk to us on the best locations for snorkeling. Two days into snorkeling we were approached by a couple in Kilauea who were frustrated about the equipment they were using from Snorkel Bobs and asked where we got ours..... Thanks Mike!! read more

Amazing place! Owners Mike & Janie made sure we were happy with our rentals..We rented bikes for $10.40 a day~unheard of in the Islands, nothing is cheap there, but this was one of the best things we have ever on on the Island, and we've been coming there for 27 years! This is a great little dive shop that rents just about everything. We rented snorkel gear at $12/week per set. The nice couple that runs the place (Mike and Janie) even gave us detailed directions on how to get to some of the "local" snorkeling areas that don't appear on the maps.
