Iskender Kebob
Fred B.

I miss the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern options that Greensboro offers, though Winston does have some nice Greek choices, and a new Middle Eastern/Mediterranean spot has opened - Hummus Kabob and Grill, with some interesting offerings - Chicken Mandi, Haneeth, Kebbah, & Lamb Shank. I have tried several items here including the Iskender Kabob, the Kebbeh, and the Mezza Sampler. The Iskender Kabob is not a classic kabob, but rather more of a flat bread construction. It was created by Iskender Efendi in Bursa, Turkey in the late 1890's. It remains one of Turkey's most popular dishes, and is much liked in Germany. Pieces of pita (pide) are the base for the dish, then some of the hot tomato sauce is added. This is topped with thinly sliced beef donor, then more tomato sauce is added, and then a good amount of melted butter is poured on - the butter (traditionally sheep's milk butter) is often infused with paprika or red pepper flakes. A dollop or two of good yogurt is on the side. This was a good version of this very popular Turkish dish, close to authentic, though the tomato sauce is a bit weak, and the melted butter was not a sheep's milk version. This is a good change of pace item, but frankly I still prefer the classic kebob on a skewer!

Absolutely amazing! The food was fresh, delicious, seasoned, and tasted authentic. I had a Greek salad and baklava . We were offered complimentary tea, also delicious 10/10. Our interaction with the folks there was amazing. They were very friendly and attentive. Inside was quaint, but there was plenty of seating and it didn't feel cramped. I loved this experience

Next level authentic Turkish. We tried the doner and iskender kebabs, as well as the Dubai chocolate baklava. All were to-die-for! Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. The baklava was just the right balance of sweet and flaky. Service was exceptional. The woman working the front was so helpful in sharing what was in different dishes and what was popular. Wonderful suggestions! Must-try if you're looking for authentic dishes that deliver both comfort and a bit of wow.

From meze(appetizers) to desserts, highly highly recommended!! Their staff is also great!! I haven't been back here in so long but went here twice this week back to back What I love the most is their chicken, kofte, bread, mezeler and their service!!!

Good place to try - a bit out of the ways coming from north Greensboro, but definitely worth the trip. Best dish - we all liked Lamb Shish platter, lamb was fresh , tender and flavorful. Salad was refreshing. The doner shish was a bit dry , but good flavor. We tried Kibbeh - seeing food recommendations on review. It is really good. Crispy outside and soft inside. Goes well with the sauce. I tried the combo - because I like lamb but try to cut down on red meat. The chicken was surprisingly, grilled the chicken would usually be dry. This one was tender, and soft. Didn't have room but the assorted Baklavas looks very good upfront.

Amazing food... It was hot and fresh. Chicken was nice and juicy. Lamb was delicious. Love how the hummus was homemade and the baba ghanoush was too. Pita bread was so soft. Was a good vibe from the time we walked in. Nice clean sitting area. Many drinks to choose from. The owner was really friendly and brought our food out to us in the car. This place is now our favorite spot for mediterranean food. Highly recommended

Service was good. The ladies are nice and all smiles. Definitely welcoming! The doner kebab was superb! Lamb was decent, would've like the roasted chunks off the spit. The app sampler was alright. Cheese rolls are exactly what they are. Kibbeh was good, I don't get the pecan though. The falafel was not good, overcooked and zero flavor. Iskender was pretty good, flavorful. Not quite authentic but definitely great for this area. I love the decor and how spacious it is inside. Beautiful dessert display and arrangement! For anyone who loves trends, they have the Dubai chocolate bar.

TL;DR: Goooo! NOW!:) This place...wowza! Impressed me in the BEST way. For years, I've been hunting for an authentic, delicious, and affordable Mediterranean-style casual restaurant that feels like home. Growing up in Europe, I've struggled to find restaurants that come close to the many amazing experiences I've had with Mediterranean food overseas, especially with doner kebab. I was delighted to see it listed on the menu and was impressed with how it was prepared once it arrived. Everything about this little gem of a place is fantastic, starting with the welcoming owners and staff. Sabina and Sinem (pictured) were so friendly, kind, informative, caring, and easy to talk to, and the brief glimpses of the kitchen magicians drew an even clearer picture of the love and passion everyone here pours into the food and service. I immediately felt like part of the family. I took a chance by visiting this restaurant on a brief day trip to Greensboro, and I'm SO GLAD that I did. This is my new food haven anytime I'm in town moving forward. It was really special, and with me celebrating a small personal achievement on this day, it was perfect for the occasion. As far as the food, I had the doner kebab platter, which came with rice and salad, plus the baklava and tea. EVERYTHING was fabulous. I literally felt transported back to Europe when having my main course, delicious Kapadokia sauce (tzatziki style), the tea (OMG!). And the main star of the show: the baklava...HOLY COW! I've never been a huge baklava fan, but THIS baklava was to die for. All 3 kinds - chocolate pistachio, regular pistachio, and walnut. All 3 were DELICIOUS! There's complimentary coffee and tea when dining in, and even a sugar alternative for those who need it (I used Splenda). And the menu has plenty of options on it. Parking is free and there's quite a few spots right in front of the restaurant, and the seating area is quaint. Enough for multiple visitors and at least 1 or 2 larger parties. Thank you to the team for making this such a special visit for and I'm looking forward to coming back again soon! And for those of you reading: GO NOW! It's SO worth it.

Amazing food in this quaint restaurant. Today I had kofta platter with hummus and tzatziki and everything was superb. Great people run and staff who run the place. Very friendly and engaging. Very clean dining room and restrooms. This will be a regular food stop.

If you've ever dreamed of visiting Istanbul for authentic Turkish cuisine, you don't have to travel…read morethat far, just head to Zeeyum Kitchen on W. Market Street in Greensboro! After hearing so many great things, my family and I finally decided to try it this weekend, and all I can say is... WOW! What an incredible experience from start to finish. First, let me say that Zee, the owner and chef, is one of the most welcoming restaurateurs you'll ever meet. He not only prepares amazing food but also takes the time to personally greet his guests, making you feel like family the moment you walk in. We started with the Hummus and Fresh Flatbread, and it was absolutely outstanding, fresh, creamy, and full of flavor. Next came the Börek (Ground Beef and Feta Cheese). Think of it as the best, most flavorful "egg roll" you've ever had, but with authentic Turkish flair. Simply delicious! I had the Bugu Kebabi, served in a clay plate with red onions and tomatoes. Sealed with baked bread. I'm usually not a lamb person, but when Zee explained that the lamb is marinated for hours in an onion-based broth, I decided to step outside my comfort zone. I'm so glad I did! The lamb was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. The presentation was also unique and memorable, with the delicate thin bread cut open right at the table. It was more than enough for my daughter and me to share. My wife ordered the Beyti Kebab, is a Turkish dish consisting of ground beef, grilled on a skewer and served wrapped in lavash and topped with yogurt sauce and butter sauce. Every single bite was bursting with amazing flavors. Another outstanding dish! All the desserts are to die for, many are imported from Turkey. Before you leave, don't miss the opportunity to enjoy an authentic Turkish Coffee, Turkish Wines, or a Turkish Beers to complete the experience. If you're looking for a restaurant that offers healthy, authentic, delicious, and very reasonably priced food, Zeeyum Kitchen should absolutely be on your list. The service is exceptional, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and there's plenty of convenient parking. Highly recommended! We'll definitely be back!!!

Rich, savory sauces, a menu that is a good guide. I had the Bugu Kebabi - slow cooked lamb in a glazed pot, sealed with a pita crust. If you like lamb you will love this. Kofte meatballs are also outstanding, if you prefer beef. There's a whole page of vegan dishes, as well Baklava selection is beyond words. All of us had a lovely time. Can't wait to repeat.

Where else can you get a salad with pasta salad, piyaz, and grape leaves in it? Talk about so many Mediterranean flavors in one bowl! Our server was great; she was very attentive, checking in on us and refilling our waters when needed. Our food came out quickly, and it was fresh and delicious. My spouse ordered the Duram Adana, which was full of flavor, and was definitely spicy. Our only critique was that it came with a bag of chips, though you can get a different side for an upcharge. We shared the Mixed Appetizer plate, which came with hummus, baba ganoush, piyaz, grape leaves, and fresh pita. The baba ganoush was beautifully smoky, and the pita was pillow-y soft. Whether you're looking for a quick lunch spot, or a cute place for date night, be sure to check out Sumela for a great, local place.

I began working for myself around that time and don't eat out much anymore but I do occasionally still make it in when I meet friends or family for lunch. I've noticed a more prominent social media presence lately and in those posts Turkish pizza, pide, was featured. I'm in! We started our dinner with an order of falafel. It's one of my favorite dishes and I make it at home occasionally. My husband ordered the Adana Kebab and I of course just had to try the pide. The choices were only beef or spinach so spinach it was, since we had beef with the other entree. We almost always eat half and switch plates, so we can try several things and this was no exception. As always the adana was delicious, I just love the seasonings in the meat. The tabouleh was very different than I remembered though, consisting of way more greens than much of anything else so the flavor just wasn't the best for me. The pide was yummy, simple and flavorful, a perfect size for a lunch portion in my opinion. Filling but you wouldn't be stuffed. The staff were very attentive and as always, the owner made a few rounds in the dining room. It's great to see a local business standing the test of time and still cranking out good eats!

And the dolmas...you know when you have one that has hard rice inside that is dry and bland? Well this is the exact opposite. Soft and tender rice, juicy and tasty. On Sundays they open at 12 noon. So I did a little shopping and came on over for lunch. When I pulled into the parking lot it seemed kind of full which is to be expected when a tick tock went viral just yesterday, I think. The restaurant itself seemed clean. There was plenty of space to sit down and eat. There were booths and tables with chairs. The girls at the service counter were exceptionally kind. There was a little bit of a wait on the food but not too bad. I ordered ahead of time and they told me about 20ish minutes and I got mine in 25 minutes. I was a little disappointed because they didn't have the chicken ready so I didn't want to wait an extra 45 minutes. So I just went ahead and ordered the beef shawarma wrap and I ordered creamy cucumber salad. Honestly, it tasted pretty good but it wasn't anything to write home to Mama about. Was it worth the $12 just for the wrap? I personally don't think so. It's not bad at all. Would I get it again, probably. But I also want to try other places that may make this so I have something to compare it to. If you're craving a chicken shawarma because you've been seeing people eat it all over social media........ Go ahead and go on over to Aladdin's to at least give it a try yourself. I would love to come back and try the chicken Shawarma and some of their bowls. Ciao for now.
