The dim lighting, tiki decor, and fun atmosphere make it the perfect spot for date night or for a drink with friends. Every cocktail comes out looking like a work of art and insanely good. I had a hot dog and it was one of the best meals I've had in a while lol especially after a day of drinking. The staff was super friendly and really knows their stuff, which makes the whole experience even better. Happy hour called my name and it was a delightful treat. There's no food menu when I was there but spam masubi was available for a nosh. The frozen seasonal cocktail was egg nog and it was so delicious. It had a nice spice level and sweetness. You couldn't tell it had any alcohol which is dangerous because I wanted another! I also tried their mai tai for the sake of science. It was not too sweet and boozy level was delightful. Slowly the bar filled up and I could tell the frozen cocktails are a known item of choice. I've been wanting to try Kapu for awhile now and was glad I finally stopped in on a Friday evening. No reservations were needed and you can just walk up to the bar and place your order and then select where you want to sit. The staff was very friendly throughout my visit. The ambiance is very tropical throughout Kapu.  My cocktail was very refreshing with whiskey, lemon and cucumber. They have tiki cocktails, some additional cocktail options and beer and wine as well as a food menu. I didn't get the chance to try any food and just stopped in for one drink.  Kapu is located right next to the parking garage in downtown Petaluma, which is nice and convenient.  They often have events with live music so be on the lookout for those posted on their website and Instagram too.  I enjoyed my visit and will be back soon! read more

Top marks for tiki bar vibes. We came on a Saturday for reggae night and there was a DJ and a dog machine. The tables were pretty full but you could find seating. My tiki bar cocktail (Missionary's Downfall) contained chunks of pineapple and was nicely balanced between sweet and strong. The piña colada was tasty (we got shaken instead of iced). Came here for a Tiki dinner last week because I LOVE themed restaurants! This is tiki theme with hints of Hawaiian/Chinese/Polynesia and maybe a little Indiana Jones with all the skulls in the walls. You are transported to an island somewhere else! I came here for the Tiki food of course..the lumpias, garlic chicken, adobo fried rice and house salad. It was a lot of food for two and ended up eating it for dinner the next night as well. Food was good given that it's a bar. Lots of flavors, loved the dipping sauces and their special "peppa water" spice sauce on the table. The only thing I would change was how oily the food was, it was gleaming and soaking! The vibe of Kapu targets 20-30 somethings with colorful flashing lights across its walls and ceilings, and half a dozen machine games to the left when you walk in. The Maitre'd was polite but not particularly friendly or inviting. She seemed a bit overwhelmed. For all its dim coziness, the vibe is busy and engaging. On a Friday night with no reservations. I took a seat at the bar. Ordered a Presidente drink and chicken garlic pupu. The drink was excellent with a wonderful twist of tangerine. Service was slightly confusing in that the bartender forgot what I ordered and it had to be repeated. The garlic chicken pupu was overdone, and the meat was dry, but the seasoning was very tasty. A good combo all in all. About 4-5 men in Hawaiian shirts walked around scanning--perhaps verifying--the order activities, which seemed to be a method of overcompensating for previous issues, but that's just a guess! When I first walked in, it brought me back to Hawaii. Great tiki bar vibes. When I saw the cocktail menu, I was super excited to try one of their tropical drinks because I love rum. I got the Pearl Driver, and it was decent. I thought I was going to be able to taste more of the orange and gardenia mix, but instead I got a lot of rum. Beware, their drinks are strong! As for the food, overall it was just okay. The potato and Mac salad was great. I liked how it had eggs in it. We tried their special- the kalua pork fries. The pork was sweet and tasty, and the combination with the cheese made it even better. We wanted some veggies so we ordered the tofu salad. Didn't really care for it because the tofu was bland and I didn't like the dressing. It was too sweet and citrusy to me. Their best dish was the garlic chicken. We got it spicy, and I didn't think it was that spicy at all. It was crispy, and well seasoned. Dipped it in their sauce to cool it off. The adobo fried rice was decent, just thought it could be more flavorful, and the tomatoes on top kind of threw me off. I've had really good Hawaiin/ Filipino food, so I had really high hopes for this place. I like the vibe most of all and would come back maybe for happy hour or with a group. Start your Today life, on a today vacation! I had been anxious to try Kapu since before they opened. I like atmosphere, and to be honest, I like Tiki, so this looked right up my alley! I didn't want to rush in opening weekend, and give them some time to get established, and get the "machine" up and running smooth. That said, with all the opening buzz, booking a reservation for four, at 8:45pm on a Thursday took almost two weeks. We wanted to enjoy this experience with friends and not have to risk waiting outside to wait to get in (or maybe not). As soon as we opened the door, we knew we were in for a treat! The atmosphere is immediately different, and the smell from the kitchen greeted us almost instantly! We were swiftly shown to our booth - which was like a small thatched hut. It was very cozy - but still felt like part of larger bar area. Cocktails are pricey - at $14-16 each - but the are premium cocktails, with blends of premium liquors and unusual ingredients. They also offer a few "slushy" type cocktails as well - which are a little less expensive and equally unusual. The food menu was a little smaller than I expected, which I expect they will end up expanding, but it still presented a nice range of items to choose from. We had Poke Nachos, Fried Chicken, Fried Rice, and a couple of other items from the PuPu (small plate) menu. Food came out promptly and was generally well prepared. Service was active and friendly, without being invasive -so they scored points there too. I'm sure it would be easy for one or two people to drop in, particularly later on weeknights, but I expect they are probably very busy on the weekends - the allure of their exotic cocktails and atmosphere are sure to make this a very popular addition to Petaluma's vibrant and developing nightlife! If you want to try Kapu on a weekend, I would strongly recommend planning ahead and contacting one of their "travel agents" to help you plan you trip. I have come to the Kapu Bar with my significant other, and twice since then. The following two attenpts were unsuccessful because I had my 13 year old with me and it was 8:40 pm on a Sunday.. They don''t allow minors after 8:30 pm apparently. This evening we went at 5:30 and they didn't have tables for 5 people, and I didn't have a reservation. I mentioned to the hostess that it is impossible to make reservations because no one answers the phone, and they aren't on Open Table nor do they allow reservations to be made on their website. She said that they are on Open Table now. From the single time that I was able to go there, the salad and lechon was delicious. The service was good. Like most of Petaluma, I was excited to try Kapu. The atmosphere is great -- you can tell that a lot of thought, love, and money went into the design of the place. I thought it was cool that with a group of 4 we were sat in a little hut of sorts. It blocked out a lot of the noise and created a great intimate dining experience. The service was ... okay. You can definitely tell that they are understaffed which is at no fault to them. I believe they were trying their best. I wish that I felt the love through the food and drinks. We tried: 1. The boiled peanuts -- cold, dripping wet, and flavorless. The peanuts were so wet that our table was covered in water. 2. garlic chicken -- the best dish we tried, the chicken was tasty and the sauce it came with was good as well. 3. Lechon (pork belly) -- I don't have a total bone to pick with this one, but the "crispy" part of the pork belly was SO crispy that it was unenjoyable to eat. 4. Adobo fried rice -- bland! So badly needs more flavor! The pork shoulder was the only good part of this dish. 5. Fried noodles -- bland again. This dish would be delicious with more flavor. Please rethink. For drinks, I had the fink bomb. Others in my group got the jungle bird, mai tai, and suffering bastard. I think too much crushed ice was used in these drinks. Honestly really off putting. My drink was flavorless (tasted like water, wonder why!). Two other things to note -- the menu is hard to read and the trifold, glossy paper feels tacky. I also see a lot of people complaining about the portion sizes. I personally did not think the portion sizes were bad. I just think that one or two additional larger plates would make the menu feel more complete. Unless I knew that the food and drinks were improved -- I would not come back. A friend recommended I check out this cute tiki bar in Petaluma, and the interior did not disappoint, it's beautifully decorated and has a charming vibe. It was a bit on the dark side, which made it hard to see some things, but it definitely added to the cool atmosphere. Went in yesterday for a birthday surprise since we hadn't been yet. Even just walking in the door you feel like you're entering a whole new world. As soon as you enter you see stone walls with plants and flowers everywhere, awesome lights, and Tiki decor. Went at 4 on a Wednesday and wasn't packed. We got to sit in a sweet booth that gives you privacy while still being able to enjoy all the sweet lights. Our server Mel was amazing! We tried the drink of the day which was delicious and also got a few different cocktails and all were really good. Food wise we tried the lodes fries they had oh mah gawd the lumpia!!! We ended up ordering a second order of them because they were bomb. The pepper water at the table was soo good. Overall we had a wonderful experience and talked about everything we liked there throughout the rest of the night. I definitely recommend going on a weekday during happy hour. Loved this place so much. All the staff were happy, friendly, and made us feel immediately welcome with great descriptions and suggestions. The decor is on point and transports you to another world. This was my first time at this bar! We came in without reservation and sat at the bar. The drinks were so yummy!!! Pretty pricey for what it is though. The hot dog was delicious, I hadn't had one like this before. I especially liked the kimchi in it. The lumpia was okay. The service was amazing. Our bartender was super nice and it really shows that she likes her job. I also really liked the decoration, although it was a bit darker than expected. I rarely give out 5 stars but Kapu deserves nothing less. The setting is well done with a different Tiki-feel to each of their dining areas. The service was top-notch: very friendly and efficient. The food was fresh, tasty, and each generous portion was more than enough to share. And the drinks, the reason to go to a bar, were excellent! Not watered down, not too sour or sweet, etc. Their 1944 Mai Tai was on par with the best I've had. A selection of vintage pinball machines was a nice surprise. I feel so privileged that an outfit of this quality chose Petaluma to be its home. I would come for the drinks and the atmosphere - there are dozens of fun tropical themed drinks on offer and the bar tender is happy to accommodate any unique requests. The food is good to balance the drinks although I wouldn't consider the food the reason to come. There are lots of mocktail drink options for those who don't come to drink alcohol. This is an outstanding New Tiki bar and restaurant. I have loved Tiki places since my parents took me to them in the 70s and 80s, and I continue to go to those which are around, including the few surviving classics like Trader Vic's, as well as new ones. I also have been making my own Tiki cocktails for many years. I can say that this is one of the best I've been to in a long time. The cocktails are very well made, nicely balanced - not too sweet, not too sour - and with the base spirits coming through nicely as they should- and made according to the proper recipes - e.g., their Zombie is made to the actual Don the Beachcomber recipe and their Mai Tai is like the real Trader Vic's Mai Tai, not a bunch of rums and fruit juices thrown together and called a Mai Tai. They include a range of different types of Tiki/tropical drinks from different sources, bringing a nice range of very different drinks, and include some which are rare. Food is excellent and includes a nice range. Lechon/pork belly dish is outstanding (the meat is cooked nicely crispy, yet still with some softness, nicely dressed), as are the stuffed fish, the adobo rice, "banana split," etc. The ambience and decor are excellent, dark with lots of Tiki decorations some nice booths, etc. Service is great: friendly, enthusiastic, and efficient. So I have come to the conclusion that I am a tiki-phile... Not like I will travel the world to find tiki drinks but like if one's around, I will find it. So when I heard of this new tiki bar in Petaluma, I had to stop by! Aesthetic - 8/10 For such a tiny place, they did a great job! Everything from the floor to the ceiling is decked out in tiki attire, you really feel submerged! My ONLY complaint is that tiki bars need some sort of water feature (in my opinion). Staff - 10/10 The bartenders were so friendly and helpful! My favorite drink is a Painkiller at tiki bars and sadly there was not one on the menu but that did not stop our bartender! She was ready and happy to oblige. Our order: Painkiller - This off-menu beverage was delicious and STRONG! I was feeling it after one drink! Missionary's Downfall - Not too sweet, minty, and pineapple-y! It was very refreshing, exactly what you'd want in a tiki drink. Butter Chocolate Mochi - Not at all what we expected but super yummy! Fun tiki atmosphere, delicious small plates, large craft cocktail menu, but those drinks took FOREVER. The servers were all very friendly, but they need to staff more bartenders because waiting 30 mins for your drinks is unacceptable. The food was pretty good though. My favorites were the Garlic Chicken, and the Poke Nachos. The chicken was super crispy with a sweet and spicy sauce. The nachos were each individually assembled so each bite had the right balance of flavors and texture. One note, if you have a shellfish allergy like I do, you'll need to be careful about cross contamination. The poke was delicious, but after only 1 bite I had a mild reaction. I really wanted to eat more of those nachos, but could not do it. The booths are very dimly lit with chandeliers that are supposed to emulate flickering tiki torches, but really just made it difficult to read the menu. They were cranking cool tunes though, with a blend of ska, surf, and reggae. There's also a pinball room with a few machines. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean I wouldn't race to return here, but if someone else was buying, I wouldn't say no. read more

Where am I - like stepping into a vacation spot mete miles from home! Ambiance is amazing - great job! I've been twice now, once for dinner and once for drinks and apps. Two things I crave are the Sesame Chi Chi drink which is an amazing combo of coconut and sesame flavors and is so smooth - like drinking a cloud. Poke nachos are the best in Petaluma - sometimes classic style is best and finally poke with the right chips and spice.
