While my boyfriend and I were in Petaluma, I told him I wanted to stop by this tiki bar and let me just say I was impressed. It's right in downtown Petaluma. Easy to find parking. As for the drinks, they were strong but good. The food was also good and had quite a selection of choices for a tiki bar restaurant. I would definitely be coming back here again.

Top marks for tiki bar vibes. We came on a Saturday for reggae night and there was a DJ and a dog machine. The tables were pretty full but you could find seating. My tiki bar cocktail (Missionary's Downfall) contained chunks of pineapple and was nicely balanced between sweet and strong. The piña colada was tasty (we got shaken instead of iced). Very creamy.

Enjoyed the ambience and service. Really wished this place could have lasted but the location was off the beaten path which was a Pro for me but a Con for business.

Came here for a Tiki dinner last week because I LOVE themed restaurants! This is tiki theme with hints of Hawaiian/Chinese/Polynesia and maybe a little Indiana Jones with all the skulls in the walls. You are transported to an island somewhere else! I came here for the Tiki food of course..the lumpias, garlic chicken, adobo fried rice and house salad. It was a lot of food for two and ended up eating it for dinner the next night as well. Food was good given that it's a bar. Lots of flavors, loved the dipping sauces and their special "peppa water" spice sauce on the table. The only thing I would change was how oily the food was, it was gleaming and soaking! For someone who doesn't drink, they have also serve mocktails and $5 from each mocktail will be donated to No Kid Hungry. Love it! I think whether you just wanna do the bar or have dinner, this is a fun, unique place to grab a bite or drink!

Bartender was so friendly! He was able to tell us all about the area and recommend us to different great places! The drinks were amazing and super fun! Ambiance is super cool and very tropical!

The interior of this spot is so beautiful and decorated so nicely, it definitely makes you forget where you are! The staff was really polite and the food was delicious. We tried the banana split and the chicken dish we had were delicious!

Solid drinks and interior was fully committed to the tiki theme. They only serve food on Friday and Saturday, which is a shame because some nachos or fries would have been absolutely destroyed after a few drinks.

What a delightfully different vibe in the middle of Petaluma! The vibe of Kapu targets 20-30 somethings with colorful flashing lights across its walls and ceilings, and half a dozen machine games to the left when you walk in. The Maitre'd was polite but not particularly friendly or inviting. She seemed a bit overwhelmed. For all its dim coziness, the vibe is busy and engaging. On a Friday night with no reservations. I took a seat at the bar. Ordered a Presidente drink and chicken garlic pupu. The drink was excellent with a wonderful twist of tangerine. Service was slightly confusing in that the bartender forgot what I ordered and it had to be repeated. The garlic chicken pupu was overdone, and the meat was dry, but the seasoning was very tasty. A good combo all in all. About 4-5 men in Hawaiian shirts walked around scanning--perhaps verifying--the order activities, which seemed to be a method of overcompensating for previous issues, but that's just a guess! All in all, it was an interesting and positive experience. Park on street or in next door parking structure.

When I first walked in, it brought me back to Hawaii. Great tiki bar vibes. When I saw the cocktail menu, I was super excited to try one of their tropical drinks because I love rum. I got the Pearl Driver, and it was decent. I thought I was going to be able to taste more of the orange and gardenia mix, but instead I got a lot of rum. Beware, their drinks are strong! As for the food, overall it was just okay. The potato and Mac salad was great. I liked how it had eggs in it. We tried their special- the kalua pork fries. The pork was sweet and tasty, and the combination with the cheese made it even better. We wanted some veggies so we ordered the tofu salad. Didn't really care for it because the tofu was bland and I didn't like the dressing. It was too sweet and citrusy to me. Their best dish was the garlic chicken. We got it spicy, and I didn't think it was that spicy at all. It was crispy, and well seasoned. Dipped it in their sauce to cool it off. The adobo fried rice was decent, just thought it could be more flavorful, and the tomatoes on top kind of threw me off. I've had really good Hawaiin/ Filipino food, so I had really high hopes for this place. I like the vibe most of all and would come back maybe for happy hour or with a group. The food is just okay, but I would be down to try a different drink next time.

What an absolute gem of a tiki bar in Petaluma! If you're looking for a fun bar with great music over the weekend, look no further. The interior is decorated beautifully, it's like being transported into a different world. The cocktails are tropical and fruity, and the overall vibe of the place was nonstop fun from 9 pm when we got there to 11 pm when we left. The cocktails aren't the strongest but still definitely worth a visit.

Start your Today life, on a today vacation! I had been anxious to try Kapu since before they opened. I like atmosphere, and to be honest, I like Tiki, so this looked right up my alley! I didn't want to rush in opening weekend, and give them some time to get established, and get the "machine" up and running smooth. That said, with all the opening buzz, booking a reservation for four, at 8:45pm on a Thursday took almost two weeks. We wanted to enjoy this experience with friends and not have to risk waiting outside to wait to get in (or maybe not). As soon as we opened the door, we knew we were in for a treat! The atmosphere is immediately different, and the smell from the kitchen greeted us almost instantly! We were swiftly shown to our booth - which was like a small thatched hut. It was very cozy - but still felt like part of larger bar area. Cocktails are pricey - at $14-16 each - but the are premium cocktails, with blends of premium liquors and unusual ingredients. They also offer a few "slushy" type cocktails as well - which are a little less expensive and equally unusual. The food menu was a little smaller than I expected, which I expect they will end up expanding, but it still presented a nice range of items to choose from. We had Poke Nachos, Fried Chicken, Fried Rice, and a couple of other items from the PuPu (small plate) menu. Food came out promptly and was generally well prepared. Service was active and friendly, without being invasive -so they scored points there too. I'm sure it would be easy for one or two people to drop in, particularly later on weeknights, but I expect they are probably very busy on the weekends - the allure of their exotic cocktails and atmosphere are sure to make this a very popular addition to Petaluma's vibrant and developing nightlife! If you want to try Kapu on a weekend, I would strongly recommend planning ahead and contacting one of their "travel agents" to help you plan you trip. We ended up really enjoying our "Today Vacation" at Kapu Bar!

I have come to the Kapu Bar with my significant other, and twice since then. The following two attenpts were unsuccessful because I had my 13 year old with me and it was 8:40 pm on a Sunday.. They don''t allow minors after 8:30 pm apparently. This evening we went at 5:30 and they didn't have tables for 5 people, and I didn't have a reservation. I mentioned to the hostess that it is impossible to make reservations because no one answers the phone, and they aren't on Open Table nor do they allow reservations to be made on their website. She said that they are on Open Table now. From the single time that I was able to go there, the salad and lechon was delicious. The service was good. I may or may not go back because of the difficulties I have had.

Is this a good place for seniors to mingle? What is the average age range of customers?

Yes! We are seniors and felt 100 % comfortable here! There is a wonderful age range including children playing the pinball machines.

Do they have a full bar?

Yes, it is a full bar specializing in Tiki Style cocktails.

    Are kids allowed?

When I made my reservations it stated on the Open Table reservation "Please be advised we do not allow anyone under the age of 21 after 8pm." So there is a cut off time.

I've had a traditional Mai Tai a million of times. Do you have Tiki Drinks that are going to make me want to drive 45 minutes to you? On top of that, is your food worth it? I'm happy to say that the answer to both of these questions are yes. I've gone here 3 times within the last two weeks and one item that is a constant order is the Orange Chicken. Nowadays I think people are used to the classic super sweet Panda Express style Orange Chicken that you'll also see occasionally at your local Chinese food restaurant. Wilfred's Orange Chicken definitely is sweet but its not as sweet as what I used to and I'm not mad about it. There's a lot of depth with the sauce. I don't know if they are just putting more soy sauce or dark soy sauce...Maybe it's Oyster/Fish sauce? Theres definitely some kind of extra Umami going on. An added plus is that it pair perfectly with the tanginess of the Pineapple Fried Rice. For drinks my favorites have been the Manta Ray and the Sanfroyosko. The reason being is just because these have been the more unique ones that I've been really enjoying. The Manta Ray is more tropical than one might think. However it's tropical with a bit of funk. The combination of the Gin, Falernum, and Sauv Blanc Syrup really add to the complexity. The other drink I really like is the Sanfroyosko. If you are a Mai Tai lover, this is the one to try. The substitution of the typical tums with the Shochu, Sake and Pisco add even more of a Wine and floral flavor profile to the drink. On top of that the Sesame Orgeat gives and even more nuttier flavor than normal. But despite all these flavors going on, it still kinda tastes like a Mai Tai. The service has always been amazing. Every person who has served us has served us with a smile. But even despite how friendly they are, there still remains this sense of professionalism with their interactions. They check in at the perfect times. They ask how we are enjoying everything and share their favorite things to drink/eat. With the amazing tiki decor and island music, you really do feel like you are on an Island anytime you eat here.

That said, our experience was noticeably impacted by the host. From the moment we walked in, interactions felt more focused on what we couldn't do rather than helping us feel comfortable or welcomed. I was initially told my dog wasn't allowed, which was later clarified when I explained he is a service animal, but subsequent interactions continued to feel corrective rather than hospitable. It stood out because every other staff member we interacted with was warm, social, and inviting, which made the contrast pretty stark. One practical note for future guests: if you order wine, plan to finish it there. They do not offer cork-and-carry, so splitting a bottle only really works if you're prepared to drink a good amount on-site. I'm rooting for this place and hope this feedback is helpful. With a small adjustment in front-of-house approach, this could easily be a fantastic addition to the local bar scene.

I joked with my friends that I had come to Tiki Tom's about four months ago, and that their frozen machine was broken, so imagine if it was broken again! When our server came to take the order she in fact stated plainly that their machine was broken. I said how funny, when I came here several months ago it was still broken. She was snappy and said it's still broken and that's how it is. Also, we are all an older and married looking bunch, but after the frozen piña colada exchange, she insisted we all show her our IDs. That's understandable, maybe we could have been sub-21-year olds dressed up as old folks at a tiki bar on a weeknight. Unfortunately for us, one of us forgot our ID (digital version not accepted), and we were told that none of us could order drinks. Fair enough, we decided that not having the frozen piña colada wasn't worth the stay, so we decided to leave. Before leaving, however, a group at another table of younger looking folks commented that it was ridiculous that we got our IDs checked, because they did not. Pretty ridiculous, did not feel worth a continued battle. Disappointing experience given that I've had several positive experiences here in the past. Not sure I will be coming back anytime soon. If you're going to have a broken frozen piña colada machine, maybe don't list it on your menu over the course of several months.
