This place is really cool with a very chill, cozy vibe inside. I was visiting my sibling over the weekend who lives just down the street, so I ended up stopping in twice. On my first visit, I tried the dulce de leche hot latte, which was good but nothing particularly stood out. I also had the egg, sausage, and cheese sandwich on a jalapeño cheese bagel. It was huge and overall good, but I found myself more of a fan of the bagel itself. On my second visit, I tried the vanilla lavender hot latte, which stood out much more to me. It had a great balance of coffee and sweetness. I also tried the egg, ham, and cheese jalapeño bagel and definitely preferred it over the other sandwich. It was savory and filling. Seating in the front is cozy and comfortable. The back area with the high chairs and big wooden tables is good for groups but the chairs are very hard so bring a cushion or a hoodie to fold up and sit on. The back table can handle a group of about ten people comfortably. The coffee is very strong! They have oat milk. As a whole grain person I can't really eat anything because I try to avoid plain white bread. But if you like paninis you'll probably enjoy it. Service is tepid. I think they're afraid to talk. The staff act like they're always about to get yelled at for something. They don't look like they're having a very good time and it doesn't seem like a fun place to work. One of my favorite cafes I've been to! The front of the house has more intimate seating for groups of 2-5 and plenty of spaces for individuals to work. The back of the house has more group seating for groups up to 10-11. So much space and almost as big as their menu! Loved my muffin and the vibes. Cute place with a lot of interesting options. We came here on a Sunday at 10am. It was full but not crowded. We were able to find refuge on the couches. It was very comfortable, the couch you almost melt into and the chair was deep, like a warm hug For food I indulged in their bacon and egg Bfast wrap. Very odd but I was happy they were not pretending to make Bfast burritos (that is a sin). My partner got a jalepeno and cheese bagel with sausage / egg. He enjoyed it. My child got the plain bagel with plain cream cheese. Considering it took 20 minutes to get the food I expected to not have to put the cream cheese on the bagel myself. Overall the food was average to below average, esp for the quality being pumped out at local Cafes. read more

A cool coffee shop parallel to Wells St. in Old Town. The coffee is fantastic, but it's definitely not set up as a spot to hunker down and get work done. The counter is down the hallway in the back and there are chairs and low/high tables about. However the staff was nice enough, explaining the options available. Came to this not as well known coffee place and was impressed. It looked like it may just be not that much of an atmosphere but I actually was wrong about it as it turned out. Kapej is located close to the Sedgwick station on the Brown Line, so it's convenient to get to by public transportation. Kind of a basic menu but it was better than expected. There's coffee and bagels along with some breakfast sandwiches. An unassuming place is what you call it. It just so happened that I was going on by, and I would never have known about this place. This was just by luck and so I gave it a try. From the outside, it looks like a convenience store. On the inside it's better though. It's about $2 for a regular coffee. There's some non dairy milks. It's about $2 for a bagel. One bad thing is there's not a huge amount of spreads to choose from. I got it with peanut butter. There was a dusting of sugar on top. Bagel was toasted not too crispy. The peanut butter was gooey and hot. Good enough to try again. It's a pretty quiet and simple place. There's the main things like coffee and bagels, and the prices are pretty good for these. read more

Stumbled upon this shop by accident, but I am so glad I did! It was a very nice, quiet, environment. Many different seating options, including high tops, couches, and smaller bistro tables. The chai latte I got was one of the best I have ever had. The avocado BLT sandwich was so yummy, and so filling with all of the veggies included. A reasonable price for what I received. I would give this place a 10 star if I could. The food is amazing the coffee is to die for! They offer a variety of iced and hot coffee. I got the bacon egg and cheese and my partner got the avocado BLT. Very well portioned sandwich's. The staff overall was amazing and nice and explained the menu well. Service overall 10 out of 10. As for the ambiance was very comfortable and had a homey like feel. I would definitely highly recommend stopping by just for a coffee or muffin. Overall of the few times I've been to Kapej I've really enjoyed the sandwiches I ordered. They are fairly large so I consider them quite a good value. I did however get their iced matcha latte once and it was terrible. It was super sweet and the consistency was really quite thick. I asked the barista if she could make me an unsweet one instead and she said they only make it sweetened, so just a warning here. I couldn't finish it because it just tasted too weird. read more

I love this coffee shop, the coffees great and the owner is always friendly however today im guessing they have a new employee, a young female with black hair, gave nothing but bad energy while I was ordering my coffee and sandwich. Then when I received my food it wasn't wrapped correctly, it was a mess and it wasn't put together well at all. I always order from this place because it's across the street from my house but this experience has solidified that I will NOT be back. I am so obsessed with this coffee shop. A series of fortunate circumstances led me here and I am forever grateful. Living in ~trendy~ West Loop area for the last few years has left me yearning for places like this. A gathering place, a place to study or read a book. Just a wonderful small business fill of comfort and ecelectic seating options. It's also pretty big! I tucked away in the back corner to set up my laptop and ordered on my phone per request from the signs on the wall. Menu is straight forward and reasonably priced. There's no law against ordering at the register if that's more your speed, but I like to get on the good side of a small business owner in hopes of becoming g a regular! You can tell this is a shop of regulars, which I love. The owner is nice when you get to know him! He seems to really value his return customers. I ended up getting a huge cup of drip coffee with some oat milk and just a little sugar and I was truly astounded at how good and comforting it was. I was so happy to be here I treated myself to a croissant as well! It was a perfect afternoon. My love came and joined me later and got an iced mocha with oat milk to go. DELICIOUS! Man I love this place and I can promise you I will travel from West Loop via public transit just to come hang out here for a few hours. Swear! Please give this lovely small business a try! read more

Quite a while ago, I saw Kape'j Coffee had recently opened. I finally made it into this adorable coffee oasis and soon became a regular! The Owner Didier is charming and gracious. His knowledge and love of the coffee bean is incredible. He roasts his own combination of several different beans to create beautiful nuances to satisfy every taste. I have tried several and have loved them all. The latte flavors are delicious. I love the lavender vanilla. They offer adorable kid's lattes too. In addition to coffee, there are many teas and some kind of natural energy drinks too. I have picked up breakfast sandwiches that were delicious. There were tons of fresh and delicious ingredients. The sweet pastries are moist a tasty too. The room is such a big surprise. I did not expect such a warm and inviting place. The brick floors, diverse seating options, books, artwork and fireplace are the perfect, cozy backdrop to enjoy your beverage and bite to eat. Overall, this neat coffee shop tucked away on the back side of Old Town is a real diamond in the rough! I highly recommend anyone looking for real coffee shop to visit Didier and his Kape'j Coffee. SO glad to see a coffee shop in this space on Segwick opened up again!! In my opinion this is the best cafe in Lincoln Park, hands down (and possibly in all of Chicago). There is plenty of seating for both small and large groups, there's a nice cozy set up with couches and chairs, fireplace burning in the corner, and the smell of coffee roasting in the air... this place is heaven. Plenty of food and drink options; I'm not a big coffee fan but the tea selection is outstanding. I decided to grab a bagel sandwich when I was there this weekend (the prosciutto sandwich with cream cheese, avocado and onions (YUM). Everything is just so tasty and made fresh. I have been around Old Town quite a bit but just discovered this cozy hidden gem yesterday! It's located in a quaint neighborhood a few blocks from the main Wells Street. The inside is homey and relaxing. The owner is very kind and helpful. I was feeling a sweet iced latte that I could sip on my morning walk. He made me a dulce de leche, which was not overly sweet and honestly one of the best iced coffees I've ever had. The egg and cheese breakfast sandwich made for a flavorful, delicious treat as well. I came on a Saturday late morning - there was only one barista and so, we ended up waiting about half an hour for our drinks. We sat down and the vibes seemed nice. Place was very homely and it had ample seating- sofas, chairs. You will find the right seat for you. They didn't have ice so our drinks were room temperature cold- not very enjoyable.
