I came in this morning after searching for "good coffee shops near me" and I was very pleased with my decision to come to Kapej. The owner was very welcoming and kind. The inside is cozy and comfy with couches, chair, tables, and plenty of outlets. I got a latte with oat milk, which was good, but the real star of my morning was the bagel sandwich. Such a cute coffee shop with a good selection of quality coffee, tasty breakfast food, and a nice ambiance for chilling or getting some work done. I've tried a few of their specialty lattes with oat milk which have all been fantastic. They are creamy and flavorful without being overly sweet. The prosciutto bagel was also the perfect ratio of meat to bagel to veggies. I'm lowkey obsessed with the recent emergence of coffeehouses doubling up as art galleries, and Kapej has joined in on the fun. There are lots of cool, affordable art pieces on the wall as well as other decorations that make the whole place feel homey. Finally, lots of seating options and outlets, and the perfect background music. Kapej is a bit off the beaten track and might be hard to find at first, but when you come once, I guarantee that you'll be coming back! read more

pretend those stars say 3.5; it's more accurate to round down to 3 than up to 4. more than anything, i just felt "meh" about this place. the coffee's good enough, you'll likely be pleased whether or not you're a coffee snob. i got a cappuccino, and not everywhere does those correctly, but here does. kudos to my barista! a couple of things rubbed me the wrong way, though. i was in at about 10am on a tuesday morning, and the only options for food were muffins, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches. not even a croissant! there were multiple signs about not bringing in outside food and drinks, and similar emphasis on the restrooms only being for customer use. not to mention the "smile! you're on camera" sign. not the most welcoming vibe. oh, and they use pandora for the music...with ads. there were also a couple places where coffee had clearly been spilled on the walls and then not cleaned up. this could definitely be a charming and fun place, but not without some changes. if you're just popping in for a coffee to go, though, you'll probably be delighted! read more

I stumbled upon this gem in it's previous iteration (Eva's Cafe). EC was one of my all time favorite coffee shops and I could never have imagined that Kapèj Coffee would exceed my expectations. Your first step into this beautiful cafe takes you elsewhere, somewhere outside of Chicago, in a different time. The brick floor evokes memories of cobblestone streets and the mix of furniture is warmly inviting. You walk through some of the seating before you arrive to the counter. I ordered a medium nutella latte to enjoy with a prosciutto bagel sandwich and found a table to nosh and caffeinate while I did some reading. The nutella latte is like a grown up hot chocolate- not too sweet and well balanced by the notes of coffee. And the prosciutto bagel sandwich? Oh, the prosciutto bagel sandwich! Now that was a treat!! It was lightly toasted, perfectly warm and th best combination of creamy and salty. Oh, and it's huge. As in you ought to split this with someone... but I certainly didn't. I will most certainly return to this gem and gladly redo my entire experience here. Do yourself a favor and check it out. I want to preface this with that I feel bad they are understaffed and the owner is working super hard to make this place successful. That said, they don't handle a high influx of customers well and the emotional stability needed in high stress situations is not there. We waited 40 minutes for a latte and cappuccino where one of the drinks was made incorrectly. They offered us a full refund after making lot of noise about it and riling the entire store to curse us out, even though we only wanted a partial refund. No exaggeration, pretty terrible experience. The food looked good, the coffee kind of sucked and was overpriced. Too many better places to go in the city to waste a beautiful morning here. Pity doesn't equate to longterm success. read more

I was fearful the bacon might be like frozen Starbucks bacon that you know has been sitting there for a while. NOPE. Quite the contrary it's actually more like prosciutto bacon which I love.
