Gargantuan, I mean it is the largest in the world after all. Split so much. Drink wise, this duo of watermelon coconut matcha and coconut whiskey barrel cold brew. Welp it's my thirds rime here over the course of a year or two and all I can say is it is pure CHAOS which truly takes away from the experience of the space and trying new menu items. The interior and concept is beautiful. The menu items this season are great as well but the sandwiches are dry per usual and it's always hard to find a set or a cleaned table. And because it's not set up like a museum per se you're basically going to have the same experience in a much more crowded Starbucks with lines and no seat. Stopped by for some nap-stopping coffee, and to check out the roastery for the first time while visiting Chicago. Lots of space here compared to the other roasteries I've visited! That being said, there's TONS of people too-- good luck getting around in a large group. We had only a few folks and happened to get lucky with getting a table and stuck around for the afternoon to get some work done. I enjoyed a whiskey barrel cold brew. They do the cool experimental stuff here, and so it's nice to see for someone who likes to explore a bit more and is not afraid to be a bit off-put. That being said, the cold brew I enjoyed was surprisingly nice given that I don't drink because I don't like alcoholic tastes. This is a nice stop to take a breather while walking around the city (especially in the months with extreme temperatures), but not a great place to stay and hang. We ordered a drink and later then came back when all the other floors were opened. Each floor has their own specific menus but some of them have the same bakery items all around. We ordered the pistachio croissant 5/5, not too sweet, was fresh, crispy, and flaky all around. Egg and cheddar breakfast sandwich 3/5-egg was super fluffy and bun soft and it was filling but wasn't anything mind blowing. Crispy hash brown cup 1/5- no flavor or seasoning at all. Herb croissant-3/5 pretty decent. Service and hospitality were great, had a staff member come up to us and ask us if we were enjoying everything. Whenever coming to a city with a Starbucks Reserve Roastery, I always make sure to visit to try out the various items on the menu. The menu is almost completely different than the usual Starbucks menu with different drinks, food items, and even alcohol. The Chicago location has four floors offering food and drink and a rooftop fifth floor which was unfortunately closed during my visit. The place is very large and gives off a somewhat sophisticated cafe aesthetic. Exclusive merchandise and coffee beans are also available for sale on the first floor. The lines are long but move fairly quickly. Of note, Starbucks stars can be earned but not redeemed here, however the birthday reward can be used for non-alcoholic purchases. I had the Double Matcha Margarita from the 4th Floor Arriviamo Cocktail Bar and the Matcha Butterfly Pea Swirl Cake and Tropical Coconut Mousse Cake from the 2nd Floor Starbucks Reserve Cafe. The Double Matcha Margarita had tequila, matcha, lime juice, agave nectar, and matcha cold foam. I was intrigued by the ingredient combination but unfortunately the drink didn't taste like much other than tequila with a hint of lime. Although the drink was evidently green and I saw the barista whisking the matcha, the matcha taste was lost in the mix. What also may have contributed to the lack of flavor was the huge singular ice cube taking up more than half of the volume of the cup; it most likely diluted the drink as it continued to melt. I would've asked for no ice if I knew the ice cube would be that large. For $18 this drink was a huge letdown despite its nice presentation. Since I'm a fan of matcha and butterfly pea tea, which is often rare to find on a menu, I knew I had to order the Matcha Butterfly Pea Swirl Cake. The matcha green tea cake was denser than I expected but it tasted very good; the matcha flavor was there and it wasn't too sweet. The vanilla butterfly pea flower ganache was executed well although I would've liked a little more butterfly pea tea flavor and perhaps color. Overall this was really good and worth the $11.50 paid. The Tropical Coconut Mousse Cake is described to have coconut almond sponge cake, mango gelée filling, coconut mousse, passion fruit gelée, white chocolate ganache, and lime zest. My favorite part of the cake was the coconut mousse and passion fruit gelée while the other components seemed to get lost in the mix. The passion fruit portion was not too sweet and overall this dessert was light and enjoyable. This was also $11.50 and I felt the price was justifiable, but if I had to choose one of the two desserts I would definitely choose the matcha swirl cake. Although I enjoyed my desserts, my matcha margarita did not live up to my expectations for a Starbucks Reserve Roastery. Also, the overall menu selection didn't impress me since I wasn't thrilled with the Savory Bites & Plates offerings. For this Chicago location, I would recommend coming after having a meal elsewhere to enjoy drinks and dessert afterward. read more

Highly recommend stopping in! I was a little nervous when I saw the line wrapped around the building, but it only took ~5 minutes to get in. They were great about crowd control. Each level had a little something different going on. I went to level 3. Seating was tough throughout and honestly I was really confused about what to order. There was no menu and even the online menu was limited ~4 drink options total! So I wish all of the ordering and eating process was more straightforward, but the tiramisu latte and the prosciutto and cheese croissant made up for it. Both were AMAZING! A quick trip to Chicago isn't complete without a visit to the 5 story massive Starbucks reserve roastery right in the middle of downtown. I've been mourning the loss of Seattles reserve roastery, and was ecstatic to see that the merch still say Seattle on it (for now). I got some exclusive cask espresso cups to commemorate all of the global locations as well as tried many of their specialty drinks and snacks. We enjoyed the seasonal paradise duo, the seasonal matcha + ube + espresso martinis, the matcha butterfly pea tea roll cake, the pistachio cookie, the coconut mousse. We found seating, had easily accessible water, elevators, escalators, and wifi. My hotel was only a block away from the Starbucks Reserve in Chicago, so I decided to check it out. I've visited the Starbucks Reserve in Seattle, and I thought it was cool how the Chicago location had its own unique look and feel. I decided to order a beverage from the coffee bar on the first floor. In-app ordering is not an option, so I waited about ten minutes in line to place my order. While I waited, I noticed how the pastries on display looked much more elevated than those typically offered at Starbucks. Since Starbucks Reserve locations offer an enhanced menu, I decided to try the nitro cold brew with yuzu foam. While I waited for my drink to be prepared, I took the spiral staircase to the other floors, stopping to check out the cafe and tasting room upstairs. If I had more time to spare, I would have liked to participate in a coffee tasting session and enjoy a meal at the cafe or bar. I picked up my drink back on the first floor after about 15 minutes. While I did not enjoy the flavor of the yuzu foam in my cold brew, the overall experience of visiting the Starbucks Reserve was worth it. Well, this is the famous Starbucks reserve on Michigan Avenue. I don't think they ever anticipated this many people visiting all at once. There's a line to enter. There is another line once you enter to order which is even longer. They do have a bar on top. That line is even longer. There is not enough seating, and most people were standing. There needs to be a better design for the amount of people that come through this Starbucks reserve or limit how many people can be comfortable at each time. This place is HUGE. 4 floors with different experiences on each level. I went up to the third floor for the affogato and there was even a barista doing a tea-making demo while we were there. The caramel mocha drizzle affogato (7.5/10) was bussin. The espresso was a little strong for me, but overall such a fun dessert-style drink. The tiramisu latte with oat milk (8/10) was my favorite of the two. Loved the nutty flavor and the cold foam on top. We visited on a Monday and it was still pretty busy, with long lines at the registers on each floor, except the very top floor inside. The breakfast sandwiches are unlike what you might find at your local Starbucks. We also enjoyed trying new sweet treats like the whiskey infused donut and the pistachio cookie. It was a challenge to find a table for 4 around 11 am, but we kept going up the floors until we found an open table. While walking back to my hotel, my son saw this and wanted to stop it. It was around 1:30pm on a Tuesday. This was my first time at a Starbucks reserve and it was a pleasant experience. Although it was very busy with 4 floors, wait times were reasonable. I decided to get a classic expresso martini flight ($25) on 4th floor, which is the only floor that sells beer and cocktails. I was not a fan of the mole spice one but my favorite was the orange cacao! I talked to one staff member, Josh, about my preferences and he stated many people "complain" about that specific one; it's the shock factor of the spice. If you like spicy, you'll enjoy it! Josh was very friendly. After I got finished my flight, my older teenage son wanted a coffee, so we went to 3rd floor. My son got the iced ube coconut latte and I got the salted caramel blanco latte. I was given a buzzer. When my order was ready, I noticed my latte was hot and I wanted it iced. I mistakenly thought it came iced by the staff person gladly remake it for me. It was delicious! When I heard of a four-story Starbucks in the heart of Chicago, I knew I'd need to check it out at some point during our trip. We initially showed up in the afternoon and there was a huge lineup out the door. No thanks. So we came back a couple of days later in the morning and I was able to just walk right in. I was tempted by a bunch of their offerings, but I was most intrigued by the Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew ("Spirit-free Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew, vanilla syrup"). I ordered using one of the available machines, and the drink was ready within minutes. It's a very interesting concoction. It's got that smoky sweetness you sometimes associate with whiskey, although the vanilla syrup is ultimately the most prominent flavor here. The coffee is barely noticeable at all. I enjoyed it, but it was pretty one-note. And do I think it was worth almost $20 Canadian? No, probably not. But I'm glad we went. The place is quite impressive and it's a must-visit for coffee fans. read more

It has the first spiral escalator in the Midwest (it only goes up). It's sooo dope! The building is all windows so any seat has a lovely view. There are 4 floors and each floor provides different drinks and desserts. They also don't always provide what they do in "normal" Starbucks. I ordered a honey citrus mint tea...they had something similar that was delicious. I also ordered the mini cheesecake and a chocolate chip cookie (perfect for that picky kid who doesn't want a matcha dessert). I mostly hung out on the 2nd floor. 4th floor has alcoholic beverages. I was recently traveling in Chicago and staying just Michigan Avenue. My friend and I went for a walk and were delighted to come across the Starbucks Chicago Roastery. We went in and walked from floor to floor. There was so much to see, to smell, and to experience. As someone who enjoys Starbucks regularly back at home, it was a special experience to visit the largest Starbucks location. There was plenty of seating on all floors and plenty of places to order food, drinks, and even cocktails while getting a memorable experience. The lines moved rather quickly going upstairs, downstairs, and waiting for food and drinks. The Chicago Roastery opened in November 2019 on the city's Magnificent Mile, which is considered the world's largest Starbucks. The Roastery combines the art and the craft of coffee in an immersive and thoughtfully designed environment with a mix of bars and custom details. On the first floor is a Starbucks Reserve coffee bar, a scooping bar, the cask, a clacker board, the roaster, a mural, card walls, and gift items. On the second floor is the Starbucks Reserve Cafe. The third floor is home to the experiential coffee bar and the flavor wheel. The fourth floor is the Arriviamo cocktail bar and an experience bar. The fifth floor is the roof terrace, closed at this time of the year. While I didn't order these on this visit, my favorite drinks to order at Starbucks are a Strawberry Acai Lemonade or a Hot Chocolate along with a variety of breakfast dishes and baked items. I have rarely had a negative experience at any Starbucks as customer service is something that they really focus on within each of their locations. As most Starbucks frequenters know, you should have the app with some funds on it and ideally a Gold Card. There are often deals through the app whether a discount or buy one get one free or bonus stars, which can be used to redeem free drinks or food. I enjoy the games that come out about twice a year and can lead to bonus stars, sweepstakes, and more. There have also been some recent changes where all previous Gold Card holders received either Green or Gold status with different benefits. If you earned Green, you can easily move to Gold by some additional spending over the next year, plus there are new Gold benefits. I'm glad that there are Starbucks locations near home and work though none of them compare to this incredible Starbucks Chicago Roastery. I highly recommend to any Starbucks fan! read more
