Came here after walking through Waikiki on a rainy afternoon passing by all sorts of food truck parks to get here. Place is in a hotel building on Lewers between Kuhio and Kalakaua. When I got there a guy was at the bar who just told me to walk into a room and start singing as it wasn't crowded at all so I got a room right away. They have both a Japanese setup with one device and also a Healsonic setup with a device to enter in the song codes but it is set for only the English catalog and no other languages. The setup was not bad apart from a few glitches in the very beginning. I just looked up songs on my own Healsonic app on my phone and entered them into their pad. Cover charge per person and automatic room tip applied to tab. I always tip for the drinks, but now they automatically apply a tip on the room costs as well (Maybe they always did, but someone else always paid). I don't like hidden fees. Add the cover charge, room gratuity, I felt scammed. If they just advertised $40/hr I would of been okay with it but their website says $20 on Sundays. read more

This place was great. Prices felt reasonable, the machines had most of the songs I wanted. They were surprised I wanted to sing in Japanese (I'm white) but it was good I told them, as only certain rooms have the Japanese set up-- but those rooms allow you to switch between two karaoke systems / softwares which was pretty cool. 日本語の歌もここに歌える。 The negative reviews I read were mainly for stupid reasons. I've been coming to GS every so often since 2014 and never had a bad experience... till recently. While my friends and I were making sure the bill was accurate, we noticed that the room charge on the receipt stated 8+ hours even though we were there for about 5 hours. We also noticed a gratuity fee of roughly 15% added to our total so we discussed if we should leave a bigger tip or not. As we talked amongst ourselves, one of the bar workers suddenly came up to us and started cussing us out. Stating "we have cameras here and I'll show you. Get the f*ck out. F*ck you guys. Don't ever f*cking come back." We were caught off guard and were confused as to why he was being so defensive and aggressive. I'm rarely in Waikiki and the chances that you'll run into me at a Karaoke bar in Waikiki is less than 1%. BUT when I was asked to help chaperone my girlfriends daughters bday party ofcourse I was game! Located in the Waikiki Joy Hotel on Lewers is GS Karaoke. There is paid public parking in the back lot, since I was running late I didn't have a chance to check with the place on parking. Don't let the dim lights and outdated decor fool you this is a legitimate Karaoke bar. They have have been in business for awhile probably because their prices are reasonable and I love that their drink prices are NOT that overpriced. I called ahead and reserved a Karaoke room we had the 2nd to the largest room and it was perfect. Downloaded an App and was able to choose songs by keying in the song number directly into a keypad. Gone are the days of trying to feed a Karaoke machine dollar bills for each song! So the girls sang Taylor swift and Ariana grande to their hearts content and they kicked out the adults because they wanted privacy (that age) we watched them through the door and had some adult drinks at the bar. We brought in our own birthday cake and they do allow you to bring in some food. The service was friendly! The main thing is that the girls had a blast they had enough room to sit and dance and the adults had fun as well. I may need to round up some friends and come back down it was fun! read more

My friends and I wanted to do something fun at night in Waikīkī, and what better thing to do than some karaoke. This was rather close to our hotel (about 2 or so blocks), so we decided to give this place a shot. We chose room B, which was big enough for our party of 3 (Room A was unavailable) The song selections they had were used via an App called healsonic, but they also have the Joymusic Japanese karaoke setup as well (which was fun to sing with but not user friendly lol). The room itself was nice and my party had a blast. We sang to our hearts content from both English spoken songs to Japanese ones. The price we paid at $20 an hour was very reasonable. They also have a service bar which we did not use but is available. Overall, a good way to end the night if you want to do something. Highly recommend read more

If you're looking for a place to celebrate a birthday and be greeted like an inconvenience the moment you walk in, this is the spot. The front desk attendant was clearly a miserable person. It's impressive, really, to make guests feel unwelcome that quickly. The venue itself looks awful, which matched the attitude perfectly. We had a reservation, but that didn't seem to matter. I was denied entry because my ID expired later that day (I'm 23 years old), and I was confidently told it was "already invalid." That's simply incorrect but instead of explaining anything with basic respect which I would've understood his concern of getting in trouble , he went straight to rude and dismissive. But it is funny because he has no issue letting underage people in with fakes but at least those are probably not expired? Creep. It was 6 of us we didn't fight with him about it or anything. Honestly, this was not an enjoyable experience. The staff have like negative aloha spirit. I can see why they act like they hate their lives when they work in such a dump. Staff don't know how to count since I was charged for 9 people cover... we had 6 people. They try to rush you to pay with the card you put down at the beginning, so you don't catch them overcharging you. They charge an 18% service fee on groups over 6, even if you don't order anything from the bar. Not sure why we're charged that when they don't even show you what room you're in. Fee isn't even mentioned when you inquire about a room or when you arrive. All the sofas in the room had cushions that were probably 15 years old, all cracked and begging for mercy. The bathrooms really just sealed the deal. They 1000% had not seen any type of cleaner since they opened. Thinking about calling the department of health on this place, don't even want to know what the kitchen/behind the bar looks like. They make you download an app to look at the karaoke songs, but you then have to type your song numbers into a small keyboard number pad. I had visited this place once before without any issues--my ID was checked and accepted. However, during my most recent visit with a group of friends, the person at the front desk took an unusually long time to verify my ID. Without giving any clear reason, he suddenly said, "I don't like it," and told our entire group to leave. When we politely asked for clarification or if someone else could take a second look at my ID, he refused to engage, simply saying, "I don't want to do this tonight," and stood in silence while we tried to understand what the issue was. We were ultimately forced to leave without any explanation. It felt discriminatory, and if not, it points to serious incompetence in how they verify IDs. I'm over 21 and had a valid ID, so there should've been no issue. Regardless, this kind of treatment is unacceptable. The establishment itself also gave off a very unprofessional and sketchy vibe. My friends and I stumbled upon this place looking for an activity to do. It was hot and we wanted some place to chill. We decided to come here for karoake and it was air conditioned (thank god). Upon entering, each person had to present their ID to prove we were not underage. We had a party of 10 and were given a long narrow room which had so much space for the 10 of us. The room was dark and had disco ball/lights making it a fun experience for us all. The healsonic app was super useful in helping us queue songs super quickly. We had to enter the song codes from the healsonic app into the keypad but it was super easy. It was a good time and we each prob spent less than $6 per person for a little over an hour! I would give this establishment negative stars if I could. This place may be great if you're drunk and looking for some late night karaoke or just something to do in general but I would not support them. They turned my friend with a service animal away; which is illegal both under the ADA and state laws. She was even willing to show them her doctor's note but they flat out said no. G S Studio is one of the two private-room karaoke spots my friends choose to go to on Oahu. (The other being Air Park.) It is not fancy, but it has one of the best song selections, a good amount of different size rooms, pretty good mics and audio, and a decent variety of drinks. Call ahead to make a reservation for your group. Prices depend on the size of the room you're in (see my photo for current room rates). G S Studio's karaoke setup in each room is pretty bare-bones: All of the AV equipment visible in the front of the room, 2 wireless mics, old leather benches, no decorations, dimmable lights, and a tiny disco light for some ambiance. The "controller" in each room is a single wired computer number pad/keyboard (like the type you'd see in an office), which is a bit underwhelming and confusing at first. I appreciated that they put covers over the microphones (they look like little hair nets) for some hygiene. Recently, G S Studio upgraded to the Healsonic karaoke library, which requires you to download an app. But it makes searching for songs much easier than the old printed books, plus you can create an account and save your favorites. And, any other karaoke studio that also uses Healsonic will have the same song lists. You have to use the Healsonic app to search for the song number, then input it on the number pad. Hit "Enter" to submit the song. Hit "+" to skip the song. Other buttons controlled the song speed and pitch, but it takes some experimentation to figure out which is which since it's just a numeric keypad. The lyric videos were almost all slightly delayed (the words lagging behind the music), so make sure you're very familiar with the songs you put in, or it'll be hard to follow. G S Studio has bathrooms that are old but clean (at least when we went) and a full bar. Overall, it's not a fancy place, but it's one of the better karaoke spots on the island, we have a great time whenever we go there, and we'll continue to go back. Parking tip: Finding parking in Waikiki is terrible! Go to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and park there, and get dinner or a snack beforehand. There's a special kama'aina discount for locals -- any purchase over $10 will get you 3 hrs free parking! Just bring your receipt, parking ticket, and Hawaii ID to the visitor center at the center stage. (I think the office closes around 8pm so make sure to go before then.) read more

Karaoke GS Studio was everything we were looking for in a karaoke bar. Their prices are pretty reasonable, with their VIP rooms (7-12 people) going for $30 per hour. Drink prices also really weren't bad, with most drinks around $8-$10. One of the main highlights to me was the song selection here. You need to download the Healsonic app, which made searching for songs so much easier than the traditional big book of songs. They have a wide selection of songs and can search through top hits, different categories, or just by the song/artist. This ensured we were able to sing whatever our hearts desired. Next, the service here was incredible. They were super quick to bring out drinks and always super kind. The bill also came out to be exactly what we expected. The actual facilities were nothing to write home about. It was a standard AFX setup with two wireless microphones. It was clean, though, and the setup worked. That's all I really care about for a karaoke place, and honestly prefer that it isn't "nicer" since it let us have fun singing without worrying about anything. One other thing to add is that the VIP room had screens on either end of the room, which was a really nice perk! Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed coming to this place. Terrible service, my best friend and I came here for her birthday and after the receptionist saw she had an alcoholic lei which was gifted to her, he took it, this was understandable but even though we were compliant, my friend was confused so she took it off the table and that resulted in us getting kicked out. I know the overall rating for this Karaoke Studio is not the best but I'm glad I decided to give it a try anyway. Some of the reviews tell us this place is in a sketchy area and I would agree with that observation. There were a lot of people loitering right outside -- and the majority looked like they were on some sort of substance (i.e., talking to themselves or shouting at people walking by). Fortunately, the front is well lit so it's not like you have to go through a dark alley or struggle for lighting. The studio is located on the second floor and while I didn't physically count, I want to say there are about 20 private rooms. The rooms are clean and there are AC units blowing in every one of them. Really great song selections -- lots of 80's, 90's and 00's music which is great because much of the heartfelt music is from that era. The karaoke system is extremely easy to use -- literally just typing in the numbers for whatever song you want to sing. The bar offers your standard cocktails, shots, and beer. Ever have one of those days, you and your girlfriends go to a karaoke bar and scream sing for three hours dead sober? Well, I'm glad we did it here. The studio is a little run down, but the booths are clean. Anyone who loves a good 80's look will appreciate the décor. We had gotten in the area around 3pm since their hours online said they were open at 12pm. Turns out they open at 5pm now because of pandemic. Gave us and excuse to peruse through the high end stores in the area so we didn't complain, but could it good to update hours. We had initially asked for 2 hours. The man at the desk, was helpful and recommended the Early Bird special, that was a dollar cheaper and ran an hour longer. So, of course we took that one. The Early bird also gave the first drink under $4 dollars for free! We also utilized that! They serve alcohol, drinks and a specific ice cream bar. There is no food here. The prices are simple and pretty reasonable and came promptly. It helped that we were the first ones there, but you got to gives props when it's due. Nothing we ordered took longer than 5 minutes to get to us. Their music selection is pretty good. Pretty updated to at least the last year's popular music. We badly tried to do Hamilton. We breezed through Disney. Lizzo's latest single was on there. Overall. We have a wonderful time, screaming into the music void. There are many karaoke places in town, but this is the only place I always frequent! Why you may ask? The price is always good as long as you do the early bird special. If you go with a group of at least three, it's about $15 a person! Now what about the rooms itself? They recently painted and redid the rooms, you get a standard size tv and steep set but only have two mikes. But that is standard for a small regular room, if you want the big room? You will have to pay for it, lol. But the one drawback is the ceiling they removed the mirror ball a couple of years ago but they kept the switch and the rotating stick. So if you accidentally switch it all you will see it a rotating stick. There is a bar and you can order drinks through the intercom system. They no longer serve food here, but you are allowed to bring in food and drinks into the rooms. So if you want a good and reasonable price karaoke experience i say check out GS. They even have both English and Japanese songs! Though a word of caution on the parking. The parking is located in the back of GS. It's pay parking only, the prices are kind of high, but the whole area has a ton of potholes. So drive slow! read more

I used to come here 3 times a week for 2 hours from September 2021 to March 2022. Despite being a regular, the bartender with the chest tattoo decided that he would double charge me and see if I would speak up. This is not the first time either, the bartender named Hayato didn't apply early bird special several times when I came in on weekends. This is ridiculous!! I've been coming here for years, and today they charged us a "gratuity fee" of over $6 on our $30, 2 hour session with 4 people. On top of that, they charge a $1 cover charge per person, so it was an extra $10 on our check without them telling us anything. We did not order any drinks, it's not like they walk us to our room, the "service" they provide is simply giving us a room number... $10 split between 4 people isn't a big deal, but it was the way it was went about and the fact that they absolutely do not deserve a $6 tip from us. When we first walked in, the guy who greeted us was very rude and said "let's do some math" when I asked for the $10 for two hours deal over a regular hourly charge because our party had four people, and it's written on the flyer that it would be $20 an hour for four people. He said we could get an A room instead ($15 an hour, for 1-3 people), which I thanked him for letting us know about. I am always very kind to workers, but he was extremely rude through all of our interactions. I dismissed it thinking maybe he just had a bad day, but I was wrong. At checkout, I saw that our check was $42 instead of the expected $30, and I questioned the guy (a different worker), mentioning that we had the room that was $15 per hour (I originally thought they charged us $20 an hour for the B room by accident), he said "I know" with no further explanation. He also automatically charged the card we provided at the beginning (which they take just to make sure we can't runaway without paying) rather than asking us how we would be paying. We were planning to pay with a different method, which is why this matters. Why are we tipping $6 for this sh*tty a** service?? Have you ever heard someone ask someone that is singing: "Hey who sings that song?" The person says who the artist is and then person who asked the question then says: "well let them sing it then!" Some people just should not sing outside the shower. But when they do, and the drinks are flowing, it might be one of those epic nights where everyone thinks they can sing and the party over here don't stop till 4 in the morning. I had so much fun. This place is located on the corner of lewers. The staff was amazing. They were so nice and friendly and dealt with our pay and splitting everything amongst us 6. I love the covid protocol. They don't have books anymore. We needed to download the app and use that as the book which is amazing. The app has the songs listed into genres and top hits for easier selection. We could dim the lights and enjoy our signing. They also have Japanese version songs. The people next to us were singing in Japanese (yes, I peeked in the other rooms). Although they are all close, you can't really hear the other rooms unless you are not playing a song in your room. The rooms aren't very nice, but totally doable. They probably could use a nice color to make the room pop. But I mean, our lights were off so it really didn't matter.
