    Birthday special

I'm rarely in Waikiki and the chances that you'll run into me at a Karaoke bar in Waikiki is less than 1%. BUT when I was asked to help chaperone my girlfriends daughters bday party ofcourse I was game! Located in the Waikiki Joy Hotel on Lewers is GS Karaoke. There is paid public parking in the back lot, since I was running late I didn't have a chance to check with the place on parking. Don't let the dim lights and outdated decor fool you this is a legitimate Karaoke bar. They have have been in business for awhile probably because their prices are reasonable and I love that their drink prices are NOT that overpriced. I called ahead and reserved a Karaoke room we had the 2nd to the largest room and it was perfect. Downloaded an App and was able to choose songs by keying in the song number directly into a keypad. Gone are the days of trying to feed a Karaoke machine dollar bills for each song! So the girls sang Taylor swift and Ariana grande to their hearts content and they kicked out the adults because they wanted privacy (that age) we watched them through the door and had some adult drinks at the bar. We brought in our own birthday cake and they do allow you to bring in some food. The service was friendly! The main thing is that the girls had a blast they had enough room to sit and dance and the adults had fun as well. I may need to round up some friends and come back down it was fun!

Here's proof for whatever his name is thank you for inflicting your own suffering on others

If you're looking for a place to celebrate a birthday and be greeted like an inconvenience the moment you walk in, this is the spot. The front desk attendant was clearly a miserable person. It's impressive, really, to make guests feel unwelcome that quickly. The venue itself looks awful, which matched the attitude perfectly. We had a reservation, but that didn't seem to matter. I was denied entry because my ID expired later that day (I'm 23 years old), and I was confidently told it was "already invalid." That's simply incorrect but instead of explaining anything with basic respect which I would've understood his concern of getting in trouble , he went straight to rude and dismissive. But it is funny because he has no issue letting underage people in with fakes but at least those are probably not expired? Creep. It was 6 of us we didn't fight with him about it or anything. We took the hint, left, and spent our money somewhere that actually understands customer service. If you enjoy being talked down to in a run-down setting, this might be your place. Otherwise, anywhere else would be a better option.

Pink mold bathroom. Didn't think to take a picture of the stalls but they're even worse

Honestly, this was not an enjoyable experience. The staff have like negative aloha spirit. I can see why they act like they hate their lives when they work in such a dump. Staff don't know how to count since I was charged for 9 people cover... we had 6 people. They try to rush you to pay with the card you put down at the beginning, so you don't catch them overcharging you. They charge an 18% service fee on groups over 6, even if you don't order anything from the bar. Not sure why we're charged that when they don't even show you what room you're in. Fee isn't even mentioned when you inquire about a room or when you arrive. All the sofas in the room had cushions that were probably 15 years old, all cracked and begging for mercy. The bathrooms really just sealed the deal. They 1000% had not seen any type of cleaner since they opened. Thinking about calling the department of health on this place, don't even want to know what the kitchen/behind the bar looks like. They make you download an app to look at the karaoke songs, but you then have to type your song numbers into a small keyboard number pad. Of course the cord to the pad is so short someone has to sit like right next to the tv. Doubt the mic covers are ever changed. Beating myself up that I gave this place my business but you learn from your mistakes I guess

G S Studio is one of the two private-room karaoke spots my friends choose to go to on Oahu. (The other being Air Park.) It is not fancy, but it has one of the best song selections, a good amount of different size rooms, pretty good mics and audio, and a decent variety of drinks. Call ahead to make a reservation for your group. Prices depend on the size of the room you're in (see my photo for current room rates). G S Studio's karaoke setup in each room is pretty bare-bones: All of the AV equipment visible in the front of the room, 2 wireless mics, old leather benches, no decorations, dimmable lights, and a tiny disco light for some ambiance. The "controller" in each room is a single wired computer number pad/keyboard (like the type you'd see in an office), which is a bit underwhelming and confusing at first. I appreciated that they put covers over the microphones (they look like little hair nets) for some hygiene. Recently, G S Studio upgraded to the Healsonic karaoke library, which requires you to download an app. But it makes searching for songs much easier than the old printed books, plus you can create an account and save your favorites. And, any other karaoke studio that also uses Healsonic will have the same song lists. You have to use the Healsonic app to search for the song number, then input it on the number pad. Hit "Enter" to submit the song. Hit "+" to skip the song. Other buttons controlled the song speed and pitch, but it takes some experimentation to figure out which is which since it's just a numeric keypad. The lyric videos were almost all slightly delayed (the words lagging behind the music), so make sure you're very familiar with the songs you put in, or it'll be hard to follow. G S Studio has bathrooms that are old but clean (at least when we went) and a full bar. Overall, it's not a fancy place, but it's one of the better karaoke spots on the island, we have a great time whenever we go there, and we'll continue to go back. Parking tip: Finding parking in Waikiki is terrible! Go to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and park there, and get dinner or a snack beforehand. There's a special kama'aina discount for locals -- any purchase over $10 will get you 3 hrs free parking! Just bring your receipt, parking ticket, and Hawaii ID to the visitor center at the center stage. (I think the office closes around 8pm so make sure to go before then.)

Great service and yummy food... Tucked away at the Laylow…read morehotel, is a chill restaurant with fun Hawaiian vibes. We started our vacation with dinner at the Hideout, and upon entering you could immediately hear live music. We received a warm welcome, and brought over to our booth where our server Kai was quick to greet us. We ordered cocktails (I don't remember the name of mine. It's something spritz, and my husband tried the banana bread old fashioned) and we shared the appetizer platter (brussel sprouts with pork belly, kalua pork egg rolls, poke tacos, and edamame)to share. We also ordered the garlic shrimp dumplings. Everything was super tasty. Lots of other items on the menu that I want to try during another visit to the island.

Stressful from the start…read more I called to inquire about parking a week prior to my rsv and was told they were sold out for the night. I mentioned that it was just a general question and i wasn't coming that night. They informed me that it's validated for two hours and it's first come first serve. After the 2 hours its $14 an hour. Getting into the valet area was stressful enough as there was a car parked right before you turn and pedestrians that walk back and forth from their main driveway entrance. I also had to wait for valet for a bit too as there was 2 other cars in front of me and probably only 2 valet on duty trying to move cars forward. Reservations can be made on open table, but there was really no point to doing that since it's open seating during happy hour times. We ended up just picking a table that was in the shade, and noticed they only have their menu by QR code which is kinda annoying. The server was pretty nice tho and he brought my dog some water mid way. Their happy hour runs from 2-6 and the menu is slightly less expensive. The food was kind of standard hotel type of food and nothing really stood out. Otherwise the vibes at the restaurant was nice and i do like that they allow dogs to join you. it seems like they have live music after a certain time. I was even more annoyed and stressed with the valet when i went to pick up my car. They literally just handed me my keys. My car was parked along the wall probably 20 steps away, but they could have at least taken out my car cause it was so hard to get out, but i guess it's nice they trust that i wont bang the car in front of back of me i guess even tho im a pretty terrible parker. at the time they didn't look as busy as when i first arrived, so i dont know why they couldn't have just done the bare minimum with just pulling out my car from the stall.

People were staking out tables more than an hour before the show, and when the patio was being cleared, there was a line of people waiting to put down their names. Our servers were attentive and were very good about refilling our water cups, which I really appreciated. Henry Kapono was great, and after we were done with our meal, we went out to the patio to join folks who were enjoying the music. Located in a hotel called The Romer on Nāhua Street in Waikiki off of Kuhio (closer to Ala Wai Canal) it is a smallish unpretentious looking building on Diamond Head side of Nahua. They have valet stand in front and validate parking for up to 3 hours. The valet wasn't very friendly when we walked towards him and usually they hold the door open but this one did not. We realize he's probably not part of Lei Stand staff but it doesn't make a good first impression. Walk into the lobby and directly to your left is the Lei Stand. It is brightly neon but dark if that makes sense, and very small. If you're a fan of when it used to be on Bethel St downtown then you'll be disappointed with this venue. No view to be had, dark drapes cover the windows (we were there at 6:00 pm) and no cute little lanai or garden. Tiny tables either high tops or rounds - maybe 10 total and a small bar. There was one tiny corner booth. The lost star was for this set up but also another lost star for NO MUSIC. Music is such an important part of a place especially a bar so we were disappointed and appalled there was only silence. Bartender said the music was "broken" so we turned on our phones to get something on our table. Then two girls brought in something to light the place up with some tunes so that helped. The final lost star was it is called The Lei Stand yet there wasn't a lei stand inside the place. When we asked the bartender where it was he didn't even know what a lei was. Then we explained to him and he said it is in the hotel lobby but you have to go to front desk to let them know you wish to purchase one. Another disappointment. Thank goodness I bought her a lei from downtown in case they didn't have any. The good stars ... Star 1 goes to the drink menu and how delicious they tasted. "Rub up on my belly" was beautifully prepared and so delicious I had to have another one lol I mean how could I refuse a second guava jam infused Tito's vodka??? Bartender prepared with cute little garnish and an ice stick to keep it cold! He was very nice and took good care of us. My friend opted for the "Clifton's Curse" - yes there's a back story to this drink- and enjoyed the cognac, absinthe, bitters and sherry concoction! Ono! Star 2 goes to the food or "nibbles" as they call it. Taro chips and crack dip were yum and a nice handful of chips not too much and not too little. Hurricane fries - to die for! Plenty of furikake, parmigiano reggiano and spicy aioli. The girls who brought our food were very nice and made sure we had what we needed to enjoy, bringing us waters too. They also had a smash burger for $25 but we had dinner rez later so didn't want to indulge but it looked good. It might be cute if you wanted to do a private party here and I noticed a room across with a beautiful large table set up for a private dinner - not sure if part of hotel or bar.
