The instructors are patient, motivating, and amazing at working with kids of all skill levels. They strike the perfect balance between structure and fun, so students stay engaged while still being challenged. You can tell they truly care about helping each student succeed, both on and off the mat. The environment is positive, encouraging, and family-friendly. Classes are well organized, the facility is clean, and communication is clear and consistent. It's more than just a martial arts school,it feels like a supportive community that builds strong kids and confident leaders. If you're looking for a place that teaches self-defense, discipline, confidence, and respect in a way that kids actually love, Kovar's Martial Arts is it. Highly recommend!

It was also raining pretty hard. I went inside Kovar's and two people (I'm sorry I don't remember their names, it's was a man and a women) helped me. It was so sweet, they just finished a class, I'm sure they were tired, and they were in short sleeves but they came out and got my car started again. Thank you guys so much!

After more than four years as loyal paying customers, this has left us absolutely heartbroken. Our 8-year-old son, who once looked up to this coach as a role model, has been left devastated. He has cried at home, cried at school, and asked us questions no child should have to ask about someone they trusted. The emotional damage this has caused our family is beyond words. To make matters worse, the head coach has refused to take any accountability for his behavior. Instead, the co-owner who did nothing wrong, sent us a half-hearted apology on his behalf. That is not accountability. That is avoidance. We feel betrayed, disrespected, and deeply saddened that a place we once trusted for growth and discipline for our child has turned into a source of pain and disappointment. Parents, please think twice before trusting this gym with your children. The leadership here has shown they do not take responsibility for their actions--or the harm they cause to families like ours.

This is one of the best BJJ academies I've ever had the opportunity to train at. If you're in the…read moreOrangevale/Citrus Heights/Folsom area, give this place a look and come check out a trial class! While looking for a gym, I trained at a few academies in the area since moving to Sacramento. After a solid trial class and a few conversations with the owner/head coach, I knew this was the right training environment and a meaningful long-term investment for me. Being extremely skilled and experienced in a technical art is one thing, and being able to teach, demonstrate, and convey those skills to multiple audiences of varying ability is another thing. Chris Holdsworth has both of these capabilities in droves - he is able to teach the nuances and details of BJJ to a group of white belts to brown belts at the same time. There's always a detail he's able to highlight so that everyone is learning and improving their game. The best part of this academy is that no matter your niche, you can find the right education and training for your needs: - If you want to compete at the highest levels of competition/sport BJJ or even consider MMA and pro fights, Chris Holdsworth has the extensive experience and capability to help guide you through that process. - If you're a beginner and looking to learn the skills and get your feet wet, there are plenty more like you. - If you're a dad with kids looking to get in better shape and be healthier, there's a spot for you too. (This is me.) The overwhelming majority of folks who roll here do so to enjoy training and learn/improve in their BJJ journey, not to destroy or injure their training partners or stroke their egos. As an older guy with a family and a job I need to keep, safe training is paramount to me - this place provides just that environment, and I consider myself very lucky. The only drawback is that the classes can get very crowded because they're so popular! Hopefully when the gym grows to a larger training space it won't be an issue. Highest recommendation.

From day one, Chris's ability to explain and demonstrate techniques in a clear and simple manner has been amazing. I immediately felt myself improving and understanding jiu jitsu better than ever before. The atmosphere at this academy is genuinely welcoming. The people here are always willing to help, and it's a fresh, friendly environment where you can meet good people who love training and create a family-like bond. I couldn't imagine training anywhere else other than with Chris! If you're considering joining, I highly recommend coming in for a free class. You'll meet great people and learn from an amazing instructor. Holdsworth Jiu Jitsu Academy is the place to be!
