A honest review and take. But a new reason was realized this past weekend at the last JJWL Tourney in Stockton--The owners demonstrate their care and connection with their students by ensuring there is always someone with them! See I signed up my boys late to this tourney, sucks because I missed out on a cool rash guard ;) but for this tourney my boys had staggered start times so I got to see more matches while waiting for their appearances. I started to notice something that was not apparent to me from the last few tourneys we attended (in all past events my boys went at same start times but different mats so I was always running back and forth). Some kid competitors do not have coaches sitting in the chairs supporting them! I found this astonishing because those kids are out there competing and there was no support. I also noticed that every Beda BJJ kid competitor had a coach, sitting there while in action and also before and after. This is what truly sets Beda apart in my opinion.

The coaches are plentiful, accessible and very knowledgeable, who have even given extra time to help our kids when needed. Our kids have excelled because of their care and the care of helpful students. I have often discussed with other parents of the students about how good the community is at CHECKMAT. I personally believe that Eli and Brandy have created a purposeful, approachable, and family-friendly environment. My baby has grown to love it there too!

We're regulars at the 5:30 AM Zombie Class -- yes, it's early, but 100% worth it! The atmosphere here is welcoming, supportive, and full of positive energy. Everyone we've trained with has been incredibly patient, caring, and fun to roll with. The instructors are fantastic across the board -- Keith goes above and beyond, dedicating a ton of his personal time to help us grow. David is calm, patient, and excellent at breaking things down, and I've really appreciated Alex's wisdom and thoughtful insights as well. Whether you're a complete beginner or experienced practitioner, this is one of the best jiu-jitsu studios in town. I highly recommend dropping in and becoming part of the Infinite family!

However, the details of instruction and the friendliness of everyone at Infinite, from the owner to beginners, is unmatched. Gustavo (owner/instructor) continues to compete and master his own craft while stressing the importance of technique over brute force to students. I appreciate this approach as an older practitioner, especially after training overseas at an MMA gym which had the opposite mentality. Gustavo is also supportive of kids and adults who want to compete and does his best to be mat-side with them at tournaments. Regarding the kids classes, I also appreciate the few minutes he spends a with them at the beginning of class talking about their day and trying to connect BJJ lessons to proper behavior off the mat.

The coaches--Jordon, Pren, and Billy--are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in helping everyone improve. Whether they're teaching energetic kids or grown adults who occasionally zone out, they always take the time to make sure everyone learns in a positive environment. One thing that really sets this gym apart is the sense of community. They regularly host BBQs on holidays and special occasions, and anyone who comes by for Friday night open mat is always welcome. I've honestly never trained at a gym that makes sure everyone gets fed after practice, but these guys never let us leave hungry. They also go the extra mile to make the gym comfortable, especially during the summer, with air conditioning and plenty of fans to keep the airflow going. I truly feel blessed to be part of this growing team and family. It's more than just a place to train--it's a community that genuinely cares about its members.

They all have different styles and are really patient. They explain the details behind every technique, and they never make anyone feel like being a beginner or not understanding something is a burden. I've been training for a pretty long time now, so it is refreshing to be around coaches who genuinely love the art and love sharing it without ego. This place is a whole family vibe. Having the option of a women's program is really nice too. Coach Katie is a seasoned brown belt competitor, and you can see it right away. Our 14-year-old and 10-year-old daughters both train, and watching them grow so quickly in the kids' program has been one of the coolest things to see as a dad. My 14-year-old will even come train with the adults too, which says a lot compared to some of the other gyms we've been to. We also bring our 3-year-old son, and the gym has this gated kids' area that is pretty legit. He's always having his own little party and is chillin while the rest of us are on the mats. It's a small thing, but it makes a huge difference for families with little ones who aren't quite ready to train yet. The talent and the culture here are authentic, which is really important to me. It feels like family, and for us, it is. If you're looking for a place to train, take an intro class. You'll see what I mean.

I was immediately impressed with how incredibly clean and well-maintained the facility is--it was clear to me that the owners and coaches take pride in providing a safe and professional training environment. After training there for 2 years now both personally and with my two daughters (7 and 10) I can attest to the fact that the instruction for both adults and kids is world-class. Jeremiah, Dave, Joel, and Julian are highly skilled black belts and have very different approaches to the art of Jiu Jitsu. Refuge has fantastic No Gi coaches as well and I can't say enough good things about Dan, Nick and Gabe. Every instructor at the academy brings a deep level of knowledge to every class, breaking down techniques in a way that's both accessible and effective for all experience levels. That's exactly what I found at Yemaso BJJ. From my very first email, Professor Marcos was incredibly responsive and took the time to explain how everything worked. Before I even stepped on the mats, I came in to observe a class. He introduced himself, welcomed me, and explained what I'd be watching. You could immediately tell how passionate he is about teaching and how much he cares about his students. Watching the class, I was impressed by how organized, structured, and well-run everything was. The academy was clean, the instruction was clear, and everyone--from the instructors to the students--was friendly and respectful. There was no ego, just a great atmosphere where people genuinely wanted to help each other improve. I signed up that same day, and now, three weeks later, I have zero regrets. Professor Marcos and all of the instructors have been incredibly patient, especially with someone starting from scratch. I've already made new friends, learned more than I expected, and genuinely look forward to every class. Whether you're looking to compete, learn self-defense, get in shape, or enroll your child in a positive environment, I can't recommend Yemaso BJJ enough. It has exceeded every expectation I had, and I can honestly see myself training here for years to come. If you're on the fence about where to train, do yourself a favor and give Yemaso BJJ a try. I think you'll quickly understand why so many people speak so highly of this academy.
