Wow, this is a hidden gem. I ordered a burger and it was surprisingly delicious! My father ordered the pasta fagioli soup and he too was pretty impressed. My sister had a burger and escarole soup which she said was really good too. Prices are good and the staff is very attentive. My only complaint is that my fries were really well done like almost dried out but I am chalking that up to a busy restaurant. Everything was great. Service was wonderful and quick, everyone was smiling. They do have a nice outdoor seating area for the summer. Food was fresh and delicious. Endless refills on coffee :) prices are reasonable. The grand slams (pancake, French toast or waffle) and spinach feta omelette was the best I have had. We will definitely be back!! Came in the other day and noticed that they got new floors and re did the bathroom, everything looks great. The food was fantastic also. We went on a weekend the place was very busy, but everything was still quick. The service was great everyone is friendly. Service was slow, I mean, seems they make one table's food at a time. Though, I saw somewhere, i think on the menu that you should bring your patience. So I guess they have their own pace there, since its their place, good for them. But I wont be back because it was very slow. Food was good though. We had visited Karen's a number of years ago....food was and is awesome! Prepared to order and very fresh - so we love it! We are also happy to say that Karen's pricing seems to be more reasonable as well (that was our concern a number of years ago). They have also graduated to real plates and dinnerware....our first experience was paper plates and plastic utensils. So, thumbs up to the folks at Karen's - we will be back! We've been driving by Karen's for years, always curious, but she was closed. We finally got lucky and stopped by for breakfast one gorgeous summer morning. We were thrilled because of the outdoor seating as we were traveling with our precious lab. WOW! What a delicious meal! We ordered the French Toast Grand Slam and the Pancake Grand Slam. The blueberry pancakes were scrumptious. The sausage was also excellent. The breakfasts were huge! We were stuffed for hours. Great value! We were most impressed when the server brought out a bowl of water for our pup without being asked! We soon learned that Karen is a dog lover! Excellent food! Great service! Dog lover! The owner Karen is a family friend of mine, and my mom worked as a short-order cook and waitress there for a few years. The staff there are really great, and a lot of them my family has known for a long time also. Karen's is such a great place for breakfast and lunch. It has such a positive atmosphere and has such great food. The home fries are my absolute favorite! The coffee is great and they are consistent with refilling your cup throughout your meal. unimpressed! living in the area five years we were excited to finally try Karen's diner. disappointment is a generous statement. I ordered two eggs over medium with home fries and toast. got one egg over medium and one egg broken and runny. home fries, tasteless, ketchup somewhat sour and not edible. coffer in a to go cup $2.50 extra. we ordered a short stack of pancakes, nothing exciting and sausage which I can't comment on because we never got them. we did not see our waitress the whole time we were eating, had to get our own extra napkins, and could not comment on our missing sausage. coffee refill was finally offered when we received the check and were leaving. no water refills either. our visit was very disappointing. I see they advertise 'best breakfast and lunch on Route 22' I'd be curious to know who voted. The Putnam diner a few miles down on 22 has this place beat with quality food and better pricing. in addition, a look into the open Kitchen left us wondering how they are operating, an inspection by local health department might be necessary. I'm sorry for such a negative review but I'm an honest person and think the restaurant public should know. read more

We probably won't go back. If you're a "regular" the customer service is fine. Otherwise, as a small business owner myself, it's definitely lacking! Though the owner came out and chatted with many guests, she didn't even speak or make eye contact with us nor stop to find out how our experience was going. Our waitress was nice but the cashier was just so-so. Though portions were decent, and not too pricey, The food was nothing to rave over, and the coffee tasted watered down. I hate to say it but there's also a mildew-like odor when you walk in. It is for these reasons that we have to chop Karen's. If she's the only one open, we MAY go back and keep expectations low. We chose this restaurant for breakfast based on good reviews in several venues. Our first moment of joy came when we noticed the outside eating area, where a couple of diners were accompanied by two large Old English Sheepdogs. I knew immediately I was in a place I would like even if the food wasn't up to par. Happily, the food was excellent. I had pancakes that were fluffy but not dry, with eggs, bacon, and sausage. Not a miss on the plate, with the bacon crispy, and the sausage perfect. My wife had basic eggs and bacon, and pronounced the home fries to be the best in the area. Our daughter enjoyed the corned beef hash omelet, and also rhapsodized about the potatoes. Good service, bright and cheery space, decent coffee. Only drawback is that Karen's is cash only, but that's a minor quibble for a great breakfast. We'll go back for lunch in a couple of weeks. read more

I waited at least 10minutes for acknowledgement when I went in to ask for a table, then got a disgusted face when I asked to sit outside, then was told to wait a couple of minutes for a table that a man was sitting at and immediately after the same waitress served him another cup of coffee. Waited about 15 more minutes and then just left. Hire more servers and don't make faces behind your customers backs, Karens. read more
