    Came right at opening and they were still getting everything ready, but they were super sweet to cook everything we were craving to eat! Salamat po ate! Everything was so yummy it truly felt like home.

    Parental units and I came through the area to visit a friend we haven't seen for far too long. We told him we'd bring the grub for lunch and asked what he preferred. "Pinoy food, please!" And that he had no preference which dish or where it's from so long as it's that particular cuisine. I could have gone to one of those more popular places, but once in awhile, I like to support mom-and-pop spots. I ran across a few, but came through here since I had a good feeling about this one. We walked in and my first impression was... meh. Nothing stood out really, other than the piled up dirty dishes on one side. I got to look around a little bit more and there was no flair or anything showy. It's a simple place with a few tables and chairs, a few dated pictures and decor. (Then some guy come out from the kitchen and grabbed all the dirty dishes, came back to give that area a good wipe down, then hurriedly got on washing them dishes. I had that "oohhh, I get it..." moment. I guess that's where guests place their plates when they're done!) So! Off to the grub. I was initially disappointed there were only three dishes presented. (Bulalo, adobo and I believe was chicken afritada.) They mentioned they also had some leftover longanisa and egg from their breakfast run. Welp... we bought 'em all. 5 combos, 3 of them with bulalo, mixed and matched the adobo and afritada, spotted one last daing bangus and got that, too, got a few of the leftover longanisa and that last egg. We also got one of those packed cookies to go. BULALO: They really are good at making this. The broth was rich and had depth and it pretty much dominated the entire dish. It was a little underseasoned - as it should be since everyone has their own salt level preference - but nothing a little fish sauce couldn't fix. The meat was secondary at this, cooked really tender. Yum! ADOBO: This, too, was prepped well. Not a hint of dryness and that is always key! Seasoning was perfect - great ration of soy sauce and vinegar. I didn't get to try the chicken (since it was someone else's combo) but I heard good things. FOOD: 5. Only snag was they forgot to give us a one order of rice to go with a combo. No biggie - they gave us enough on the other 4 to share. SERVICE: 5. They were a little slow but factor in the fact they were understaffed, it's understandable. PLUS! There was a gentleman (who came after us) complaining that they gave us the last daing bangus (which he said he wanted) and their staff responded nicely and casually with (translated from Tagalog), "I know, but there's nothing we can do. They were first." VALUE: 5. We got a lot for what we paid. They were incredibly generous with the amount they gave us on the bulalo alone. PARKING: Private lot shared with others. Spots are a little tight, but wasn't an issue for us. OVERALL: 5. A perfect 5, yes, albeit the snags as they addressed and handled those immediately, so really can't complain. There's a reason they've been thriving for over a decade now even without the ritz and glamor other eateries have. And I have to mention they have a following - almost all those who came through knew their staff (and vice versa) on a first-name basis. Love checking out these small businesses and leaving happy-happy. Definitely keeping them on my radar now.

    The best home cooked filipino breakfast place! Been going here for decades, the service and taste of the food never changed. A little gem in LA to must visit when craving for filipino breakfast or food. Their Bulalo that is being served on Thursday and Sunday is also a must try.     Whenever I'm in the area, I drop by here because the Filipino food is bomb diggity! :) Seriously...LIKE MAMA MAKE IT! Okay, sorry Mom...actually better! LOL Wednesdays are fried chicken days! Woohoo! Breakfast is the busiest time, but it's when you can definitely get a very hearty beginning. Seriously...tapsilog, longsilog, tocilog, etc. Mmm...I take mine with garlic fried rice (otherwise known as sinang-ag (sp?))! Sorry, I'm Filipino but EOP - English Only Pilipino! LOL The day I came here was one of the days they had okoy (Battered bean sprouts mixed with veggies and shrimp, fried into a flat cake - Yummy with garlic vinegar!) , which I was told the only cook every two weeks. Mmm...and I had mongo! OMG! I haven't had it in so long. Unfortunately, they only accept cash but their prices are a lot lower than any other "turo-turo" place I've ever been to. They don't serve you either. It's like cafeteria style...pick up your food, sit wherever you like, and then pay at the register. Oh, and when you are craving some Filipino desserts...they have plenty to feast on. I nearly keeled over thinking about how much I ended up bringing home. LOL :) See you soon!

This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.

As a second-generation Filipino-American, I would be lying if I didn't say that I had rather high expectations for Spoon & Pork, but as always, I try my best to keep any biases aside & curb any + all expectations. That said, Spoon & Pork is quite the anomaly. What I mean by that is that you have the hallmarks of any typical Filipino restaurant: simple interiors with modest decor, & beyond hospitable wait staff - especially our host, but the techniques & presentations of their dishes are something that you'd find at the highest of fine dining establishments. The irony is kind of nice because I don't feel so guilty about rocking a simple t-shirt + jeans, while enjoying what I'd expect to served at an establishment along Rodeo Dr. FOOD: Appetizer Lumpia Shanghai - 8.0 / 10 Perhaps the most famous of Filipino appetizers / street foods. I pride myself of bringing trays of these myself to any gathering because who doesn't love crispy, crunchy, meat-stuffed egg rolls that you can pop into your mouth? Here, the only real difference is that the individual pieces are longer that what you'd typically find. The pork + veggie dumpling is the same as elsewhere as well as your sweet + sour sauce. Nothing exactly to write home about, but delicious nonetheless Side Adobo Rice - 7.7 / 10 I feel like I've had this before & even made it myself. Simply put, imagine mixing plain, white rice into a cauldron of adobo broth. The very small pieces of meat are nice, but again, it's we're not exactly re-inventing the wheel here. It is a very nice upgrade vs. ordering your standard issue steamed (white) rice. Entrées Tapa - 9.0 / 10 A favorite of mine growing up as a kid. But whereas my mother would fry thin strips of beef, almost to a dehydrated crisp (think thicker, moister beef jerky), their rendition is quite different. Heartier chunks of premium quality beef, generously swimming in a broth of soy, vinegar, & garlic. This was personally my favorite dish of the night & a nice interpretation of a Filipino staple. The atchara (papaya, carrots, and red bell peppers, in tangy brine) provided a nice + refreshing counterpoint. Adobo Pork Belly - 8.9 / 10 If you ask anyone who knows anything about Filipino cuisine, the word "adobo" will almost always come to mind. But "Filipino style" adobo is quite different in meaning to its Spanish counterpart. In this case, we're referring to the classic preparation of any dish in a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce peppercorns, garlic, & bay leaves. Your boy definitely love pork belly (fatty unsmoked bacon of steroids), but the delicate pieces of meat smothered in the classic sauce was something of a revelaltion. I honestly didn't know how I haven't stumbled upon Pork Belly in Adobo (sauce) sooner than now. Highly recommended if you want to they the most classical Filipino flavor but with a modern take. As far as parking goes, availability is limited to the rather small number of spaces that they share with the fish taco shack immediately adjacent. But metered parking in aplenty. PRO TIP: Having actually lived about less than 100 yards away from this very restaurant (I moved away 1 year before they opened this location), drive up Westerly Terrace & you'll likely find some non-designated residential parking spots & just walk on over. Spoon & Pork are doing some very innovative things in Filipino cuisine. Combining modern techniques to traditional flavors. This place definitely deserves your business!

The cornbread bibingka was also really good. It felt like the perfect mix of classic cornbread and bibingka, slightly sweet and soft, and the sugar on top was a nice touch. Portions were solid too. My husband and I had enough leftovers for the next day. Overall, really glad we finally got to try it, and we would definitely love to try more of their dishes someday.

My friends ordered Tapsilog and Tocilog (tapa and tocino with garlic fried rice) and I was able to try them. The tapa was alright, but the tocino was very delicious. I liked how the tocino wasn't fatty at all. I would recommend the Sinigang and Tocilog to other friends/my family. The service was great. Our server was nice and accommodated us quickly when we needed something. The wait time for the food we ordered wasn't so bad. I also liked the ambiance of the restaurant because it felt like I was inside a family friend's house, which was unique to me. The food is a little on the pricier side for Filipino food, but overall I had a great experience dining here.
