S-S-1. Gai Yang (B.B.Q. Chicken) Dinner

Sorry these are the best photos but I get food to all the time from Thai Original BBQ in Thai Town. It was definitely an Old School Taco Bell back in the day. I've been going to this Chain for years and they pretty much introduced my Family to Thai Food. My OG go to order will always be the S-1 BBQ chicken with Shrimp Fried Rice or the S-2 BBQ Pork Spare Ribs. That iconic Honey dipping sauce is amazing! I always ask for an Extra. Service Staff is always so nice and welcoming. They do have a little parking lot which is very convenient. They accepts cards as well. Go check them out if you are in Thai Town.

Beware if you're ordering take out food. The staff appeared to have cared less about what they're serving. They served me BURNT Chicken barbecue for my take out.

Thai BBQ Spare Ribs (No Rice) - The meat falls right off the bone, delicious!

I'm a Thai Food lover and was pretty impressed with my take-out experience yesterday. Everything was packed well, arrived home warm, and the dishes I tried were pretty excellent. Thai BBQ Spare Ribs - 4 1/2 Stars. Not what I was expecting. The meat was so tender and just fell off the bone, and the flavoring was mild and light. A little fatty, but so delicious and a good portion. This was served w their special sauce (see the yellow to-go sauce in the photo) which was light and heavenly) Panang Curry - 4 1/2 Stars. Absolutely one of my favorite Thai curries, and a dish I always get when trying a new Thai spot - this delivered. I requested mild, and this was still quite spicy, I can't imagine what the "hot" tastes like here. I got chicken as the protein and they weren't shy on it. Quite good! ^Update on the Panang Curry - 2 1/2 stars. Had it this weekend and it was lacking flavor altogether, no spice whatsoever, and just blah. Wouldn't get again based off of this. Thai BBQ Chicken - 5 stars. Ridiculously good! Tender, packed with flavor, so so good! Would happily do take-out or delivery from this spot again, had a great experience!

Welcome to Thai Original BBQ. #HollywoodLA #SunsetBlvd

Keep Calm and Eat Thai Food. And it's Friday the 13th!! Booo! Lol. Thai Original BBQ restaurant is a small and modest restaurant in Thai town of LA. They are located along Hollywood blvd. I have been on this restaurant five years ago. And after an arduous search of a good Thai restaurant. Alas, I am back! Their exterior may be a consternation on thy eyes but don't let that fool you because they serve good food, fast service, huge portion at an affordable price. I ordered their Chicken Satay with salad and fried rice and lemonade. And it was tasty, soft and the sweet dipping sauce was bloody brilliant. I couldn't stop dipping into it like my side chicks. Haha! Anyways, staff was decorous, competent and attentive; service was fast and on point. Indoor vibe was modest and perfect for commoners to dine-in like myself. Parking lot is limited to ten motors. Overall, it's a humble and good place for a quick Lunch or Dinner. I royally recommend this little Thai BBQ restaurant.

Great food and Thai Tea. They had a whole section on the menu for vegetarians. The waiters were super nice and they take your food to the back to box up for you if you get it to go.

Another classic case of finding a gem by accident. My brother has a favorite spot in the area that he goes to when he's in town. I asked him what it was called and his response was "I'll know it when I see it." We get to said place and it's close. Womp womp. We had to pivot real quick. I saw this spot and said we can't possibly go wrong choosing them with a name like that. We got seated right away. There was just enough of us to be able to eat family style with an abundance of orders. It's always better with a bigger group, you get to order more stuff. We shared the following: Larb Papaya salad Onion rings A meat dish Everything was amazing. The spice level was just right. Thank goodness we asked for it mild. I only wish I had more room. I was proper full.

Oh yes. Tom yum vegetable or any of the Tom Yum or Tom Kai. Just tell them no tomatoes and no spice. This is the best Tom Yum/Kai I've had in LA.

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. The rice was piping hot and the mangos were sweet and soft, drizzled with a generous serving of sweet coconut milk. Personally, the rice was a bit too soft for me and the coconut milk was a tad too sweet, but it still scratched the itch I had for mango sticky rice. I went close to closing so the staff could only offer me takeout, which was fine. They were friendly both over the phone and in-person when I picked up my order. I'm only dinging it a point because of its high(er) price point. I would be down to go back again to try out their entrees next time though!

I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. Prices were very reasonable.

Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Whether you're vegan or not, this place is truly outstanding. Five stars without hesitation!
