Dr.Chung was, upon first meeting, very knowledgeable and sensitive to our case. But she quickly became disconnected from my IVF cycle. Firstly, she failed to send images of my uterus to my OBGYN for a polypectomy- which meant that I could not have the polyp removed at that scheduled appointment. We had to reschedule the polypectomy. This pushed our IVF cycle back a month - and when you are older and trying to conceive- this is a big issue. She never offered an apology for the oversight. During our IVF cycle she went on vacation and a the day after my transfer - which was performed by another doctor - I noticed she was no longer on the roster of doctors on my clinic's website. A little research and I found she had moved clinics without letting us know. She called to deliver the heartbreaking news that my pregnancy was biochemical - she then pitched us the new clinic but it seemed very inappropriate at that time. It felt like a sales pitch and not an authentic concern for the patients needs. It's difficult for me to write about these personal situations but Dr.Chung was NOT invested enough for me to recommend to anyone. read more

My fertility journey with Dr. Chung began when I froze my eggs 6 years ago. She was referred to me by a friend who is a physician and had undergone the IVF process with Dr. Chung. My friend told me that ALL her friends (also doctors) who went to Dr. Chung had different fertility journeys but that they all had successful outcomes. I froze my first round of eggs with Dr. Chung before I was married. Throughout the process, she always took her time to educate me about each step. She predicted the number of eggs we would retrieve and she was accurate. A couple years later, I was married and having a hard time conceiving. I returned to Dr. Chung to help us have a baby. My journey to becoming a mother was not straightforward or overnight but throughout the process, my husband and I were always well educated by Dr. Chung about probabilities, the newest studies that were coming out and the best options to increase our odds of a successful pregnancy and live birth. Her predictions re: egg counts and embryos passing genetic testing were always correct. I often came with many questions and ideas that I felt she was always open to and if she didn't agree with them she would respectfully explain why. Despite some bumps in the road, our outcome was successful. I feel incredibly lucky I was able to have a biological child of my own using my own eggs. Throughout my pregnancy, she was attentive and expertly handled a scare I had in my first trimester. My son was born full term at 40 weeks and a healthy good weight. I know that it was Dr. Chung's protocol, recommendations and thoughtful care that led us to having a healthy pregnancy and baby. We have other frozen embryos at CFP and if we choose to expand our family, we will definitely return to Dr. Chung. We are forever thankful to her. read more

From the moment I met Dr. Chung, I knew she was the person to lead us through this journey. Having met other doctors prior to Dr. C, we knew a bit of what to expect, and the right questions to ask. What she did was present a process for what we were about to embark upon, as well as give us rather fair and realistic expectations, all the while giving us hope and keeping us positive. I knew Dr. Chung and her team were talented, as we know others who have been under her care, but we didn't choose her as our physician simply based on talent. My experience was a little bit different. I found Dr. Chung in a very difficult moment, it was soon after I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 32. My oncologist recommended me to see a fertility doctor before starting chemotherapy if I wanted to preserve my fertility (chemotherapy affects the ovaries killing the eggs and giving you early menopause). I visited two other fertility centers before I met Dr. Chung at USC Fertility. On the first appointment, she was very clear and thorough explaining the treatment and the entire process. After she was done explaining she listened to my concerns and answered my questions patiently. She is very knowledgeable, kind and caring. We trusted her and we were able to successfully freeze 12 embryos. Fast forward 6 years later and after I finished the cancer treatments, we came back to Dr. Chung ready for the embryos to be transferred & implanted. I worked with Dr. Chung while she was with USC Fertility. Even though I had some issues with their front desk and billing department, Dr. Chung alone made my whole experience there that much better. I work in the medical field myself and have interacted and worked with many many doctors, Dr. Chung is definitely among the best of them. She is ethical, caring, and most importantly highly skilled and knowledgeable at what she does. She is definitely not out there to pitch her service. When my husband and I first went to her for consultation, after reviewing my history, she encouraged us to try some other methods before going straight to IVF unlike the rest of the REI doctors we had consulted before. Dr. Chung has a great bedside manner. She would always explain everything to us as she was performing exams. She was also always very patient and thorough in answering my questions. Today is the day I graduate from Dr Chung's office. I found Dr Chung from yelp reviews. Thanks to those who posted great and honest reviews. Before Dr Chung, I had 2 RE doctors from Kaiser. They were just all right. If you would asked me if I would recommend them. The answer is no. I was just a number for them. I was only with these doctors for a short time and only completed few tests with them. (Kaiser can only have IUI. Some docs do IVF through different fertility. It won't covered by our insurance). And I don't know anyone that had done IVF before. So I started searching myself, the I found Dr Chung. Our first consultation was in April, that is the first day she transferred to CFP. I was so glad that I was be able to contact Dr Chung before our consultation. She gave me some honest feedback about her new location. And that gave me the courage to start this new journey. It was 1 hour consultation. After reviewing our test results prior that day, Dr Chung explained to us about the whole process, any possible tests may occurred. She answered our questions. It was an eye opening. She was talking the most time. I feel bad that I wish she can take a break. From that moment, I know the reviews are correct that she has lots of great knowledge and straight talk. She created a plan for us. During the whole process, she is there with us with all these tests results and monitoring the meds effects. And again answer each of my questions. She has great bed manner. Always always explain what she will do next and tell me if I will have any uncomfortable feelings. It is a long journal, but I know we are not alone. We have Dr Chung stand right next to us. She met me in every visit. I don't need to talk to other doctors. There are couple situations that our tests were not completed. It was because of other departments. It was all because her great knowledge, she explained to us that it shouldn't effect our process based on our condition. I felt worried at first but relieved in the end. If it was not Dr Chung, I would cry every day. And today after our last visit, I successfully graduate from her office. I got emotional. I really want her to be my ob as well. Feel like I finally find and have a doctor that i trust a lot a lot. It is hard to describe that feeling. But now I understand why so many reviewers said they want to keep going to see their doctors. I cannot praise or thank Dr Chung enough for her help in our achieving a successful pregnancy! Prior to meeting with Dr Chung, my husband and I sat down with a couple of providers and while they had good track records and pleasant demeanor, we felt that they were all very technical. This was made worse by the fact that I am also a medical provider, which made them more likely to talk to me as a fellow provider, rather than a new patient. This also made my husband feel left in the dark. Upon meeting Dr Chung, she was different. My wife and I worked with two other doctors at different clinics before finding Dr. Chung, and we both feel that we won the lottery when our paths finally intersected with the best doctor either of us have ever had. Even in a city as diverse and colorful as LA, the blatant and subtle homophobia we experienced in our "path towards parenthood" was surprising. Aside from being an incredible medical professional, Dr. Chung also gets it. She REALLY cares. Two months ago, I gave birth to beautiful twin girls thanks to the skills and knowledge of Dr. Chung and the USC team. It was such a long journey and it was not easy - four years of trying, three of which included many rounds of IVF. The big secret in infertility treatment is that while doctors know a lot these days about what impacts pregnancy rates, there is still so much they don't know or can't see in terms of whether an individual successful pregnancy will occur! Dr. Chung was great throughout - she was clear in explaining the challenges and probabilities of success we should expect from the beginning, while maintaining a positive outlook for each round. Her "bedside manner" is warm but matter of fact. Whenever I asked questions about different approaches (frequently) was responsive and knew a great deal about what the studies support as being effective. When I was emotional (also frequently) she and the staff were compassionate and understanding. Considering how long it took, there were several occasions when we considered whether we should consult another practice, but ultimately we stuck with Dr. Chung because (unlike some of my friends' experiences) we felt confident all the variables medicine can control were being considered. She introduced new techniques and protocols once they were warranted, and I always felt like she provided appropriate guidance so we could make decisions. All around good experiences with the nurses, other doctors, and support staff too. Probably the only negative worth mentioning is the parking, but that's consistent with the area and manageable. read more

I cannot recommend Dr. Chung enough. I wish she could be my regular OB, GP, pediatrician- I love her so much! I originally saw Dr. Chung at USC for a consult. I was previously seeing a doctor at HRC and was not happy with their practice. I felt like cattle there, but it was close to my house and figured I would just talk to another doctor for reference. But I knew my mind was changed after speaking with Dr. Chung. She sat with me for over an hour to go over everything fertility related as well as my specific issues. She also wasn't pushing fertility procedures on us. She was honest and compassionate. She was understanding and patient. And I quickly realized in that meeting that in addition to this incredible compassion person is an extremely knowledgeable, intelligent, and quietly confident doctor. She backs up her every view with science and research. She is extremely strong but very delicate in her delivery. It took us a several months before we gave up trying naturally and had already decided we wanted Dr. Chung to be our doctor. So I made an appt and she advised me she was moving to California Fertility Partners in Brentwood. She left USC for the quality of CFP's lab and impressive technology. I followed her there...as one of her previous patients said 'I would drive the 210 to the 134 to the 101 to the 405 any day of the week for her'. She went above and beyond to help me with the transition. CFP was great. No issues with their staff or billing. They were all responsive and courteous. I had some disappointing results and then some miraculous results. Throughout the painstaking and emotional process, Dr. Chung was there guiding and supporting every step of the way. She gave me an email to contact her and would ALWAYS answer same day, usually within hours. I asked A LOT of questions but she always patiently answered them. The compassion she had for me made me feel heard. She made my crazy seem normal. She made me feel important. She made me feel strong. For all of you going through this process, I know how difficult and draining it is. If I ever were to go through this again, I would go back to her in a heartbeat. I originally came just to freeze my eggs and ended up going through the freezing plus a full ivf cycle. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Chung. She was so nice through the entire process. She listened and answered every question my husband and I had. Also, she made my husband feel a part of the process even though he wasn't physically allowed in the room due to covid restrictions. Oh where to begin!! I can not recommend Dr. Chung enough!! She is a clear compassionate while still direct in communicating. She takes the extra time to make sure you feel heard and understood - including always following up to a personal email or call ASAP. She is skilled and knowledgeable and you know you are in capable hands. IVF is such a growing changing feel and what I loved about Dr. Chung was her ability to break all of what was happening down to make sure I felt like I was working with my body, understanding and feeling good with all my decisions. I realize that may sound vague but when i started the fertility journey I wanted to be as nonevasive as possible. Starting with IUI in spite of Dr. Chungs recco for IVF due to my over 40s age. But from the beginning, she was open to working with me to make the plan I was comfortable with. I eventually graduated to IVF and was faced with canceling some cycles due to poor egg growth. Again, she never pushed me in these emotional times but took the time to review the odds, the numbers, the predicament and help me to understand without feeling pressured. Keep in mind, you're highly emotional when on the meds and she never made me feel patronized or nutty. (And I'm SURE I was). She was with me thru my first IVF transfer which sadly did not go. And then she was with me on the next transfer that DID go. I can honestly say having been thru all the experiences with her that she is a phenomenal physician technically and personally. Her communication abilities were so important to me and she was always working to find solutions with each go around and here I am now... a proud graduate of CFP!! I would like to also add that I started with Dr. Chung at USC Fertility and followed her to CFP. I also truly felt like CFP as a facility added to my percentage to getting a success story... just more modern lab and facility. Also it is appointment based!!!! Dr. Karine Chung is an amazing, warm, patient and emphatic doctor who is extremely knowledgeable in her profession. She honestly knows what she is talking about and I would recommend her to anyone who is trying to have a baby! Don't waist your time with anyone else, just book a visit with dr. Chung! I found dr. Chung via google search after two unsuccessful IVF rounds in other clinic. When I met dr. Karine I was at my lowest low - emotional wreck; not because the previous rounds were unsuccessful (I was mentally prepared that it might take six or more times), but because of the way the bad news were delivered to me and without any information on what's the game plane going forward. Frankly I was not "buying" that at the age of 38 I'm " too old, and my eggs are bad". I went to dr. Chung initially only for a second opinion. I was impressed with how much time she took to explain my chances and what my opinions are. No one ever before walked me through the process so thoroughly. I understood that it is not "the end for our attempts to have a baby"; we just needed to alter the game plan. I remember I left her office feeling finally good, after weeks of crying. I understood that there are options and then other options, etc. dr. Chung told me to be patient and I believed her. Fast forward few weeks, after discussing with my husband, we changed the clinic to California Fertility Partners, to dr. Chung. It was a big deal for us, as our previous clinic was taking the insurance and unfortunately California Fertility Partners does not. However it is money well spend! We thought that if we have to bet a future of our family we much rather pay 100% out of pocket to a great doctor who we believed is our best shot! To clarify our previous doctor is also highly "decorated", well known in the industry and came through our OB recommendation, but we both thought dr. Chung was way out of previous doctor's league. And she did get us pregnant on the first try! I'm 12 weeks pregnant now with our precious baby girl. Lab and nurses at CFP is top-notch. The entire clinic works round the clock, on your body schedule; non Monday thru Friday basis as most of the clinics do; which was also the case with our previous place. As a result my egg retrieval was on Monday, while the best time for my body would have been Sunday. Consequently few of my eggs "went bad" and could not be used.... who knows maybe these could have been the "golden eggs". However here at CFP they work for Your body schedule. Nurses, front desk, everyone in the office is absolutely professional, nice and responsive. The entire clinic operates like a Swiss Watch! Honestly after switching from my previous clinic this was like a breeze of fresh air. Finally I felt I could relax and just "produce baby". I did not have to follow-up with clinic on results, if they got my records, if they had received signed forms, etc. there is so much paperwork, blood tests, formalities to be done when you go through IVF. The California Fertility Partners crew was all on it! I also called many, many, many times with even the smallest questions, I had many, many panic attracts, many many doubts.... you name it. All my calls were either answered right away or if they had to be addressed with dr. Chung I would get a reply within half an our. Amazing! I wish ALL doctors' office (not only fertility clinics) would work so efficiently and politely. Dr. Karine Chung also replies to her emails. We tried to get pregnant on our own for years without success and had a consultation with another fertility clinic in LA that was totally demoralizing. I was told I would not be able to use my own eggs and would have to try with an egg donor. It was unexpected news and I was crushed. We made an appointment at California Fertility Partners with Dr. Chung for a second opinion, but we weren't hopeful. From the moment I met Dr. Chung I felt reassured. Not only did she take he time to walk me through the entire process of how IVF works step by step in a way I could understand, she also took the time to really review my lab results and consider all the angles more carefully. Throughout this process, Dr. Chung was exceedingly encouraging, respectful, profesional, and kind. We had gone to another very popular fertility clinic and had a horrendous experience. We were always reminded that I was older than 40 and my chances were far worse (as if I wasn't already aware of that). At USC, every time we were hit with bad news, Dr. Chung simply said "we just need one" or "I really think this will happen." She was right! It took a year and a small break to refocus and now we are almost at the 13 week mark. I firmly believe that if Dr. Chung would not have empowered me to continue, I would have given up and this little boy would not be. She was knowledgeable and showed us exactly how women of my age need more attempts to reach the goal. As you go through your journey, remember that you need cheerleaders, coaches, support systems from your providers and not naysayers. Why shoot yourself in the foot before you start and listen to disempowering doctors? I am a physician myself and I needed that level of empathy and listening. Dr. Chung was my biggest cheerleader and was always available both via email and on the phone! Dr. Chung is simply awesome and I encourage you to choose her in your path. I have never written a Yelp review before but I am completely compelled to do so because of how PHENOMENAL Dr. Chung is. I just finished my first time going through egg freezing and from the first consult through the post-op discussion, I could not possibly imagine a better experience. My mom is a doctor too so she's always very aware of quality of care matched with effectiveness and Dr. Chung is truly the best across the board. She was so calm and kind which made me feel really at ease and there was never any alarmist communication at all. The staff at California Fertility Partners is a 5 star staff too - from reception to the labs to the nurses (specifically Julianna who was AMAZING) to the operating room nurses and anesthesiologist (sweetest woman ever) - and I felt so taken care of and comfortable. They made sure any pain at all (which luckily for me was minimal to none) was managed effectively and efficiently. And the communication with Dr. Chung during the entire process even through the post-op has been above and beyond. Many of my friends have done egg freezing and the KEY difference with Dr. Chung + CFP is that you are getting dedicated care and attention from the doctor herself - which means you aren't just going in and getting the generic process of medicine that is "typical." My specific journey was curated by Dr. Chung for maximal results (which it had!). Also, she's so cool and you can tell she loves her job/this whole process which made me so excited to really learn about my body and what was going on - she's simply the best. Dr. Chung is truly an incredible physician and fertility doctor. She took us through our entire fertility journey and now I am pregnant with a babyboy. She was our cheerleader and gave us hope when we were down (which is inevitable during this process), but was always realistic and provided us with detailed information about our status and the best next step. As a physician myself, the intense schedule requirements of IVF were very difficult and she always tried to work with me to meet my scheduling needs. She was extraordinarily responsive to all of my questions, often responding within hours with detailed responses via email and offering a phone call follow-up as well. She is up to date on all the recent medical literature and makes best practice decisions based on this and her experience. Overall there is no one I would recommend more. She is compassionate, thoughtful, experienced, well versed in her field, thorough, pragmatic, and is an excellent choice if you are looking for a fertility doctor. read more
