Many stones and crystals

I came here for a consultation on the pendulum I was working with, and the woman behind the counter was extremely helpful. She told me what I was doing wrong, gave me tips on how to fix my posture and how to properly focus on the pendulum. I was still unable to get it to move properly (refused to go counter-clockwise) so eventually she found out what was going on with it, and updated the crystal I was using at the end, and fixed the clasp for me. It's been about 3 weeks, and I can finally get it to turn correctly, and I am able to focus better on the pendulum. Definitely going to go back there for my crystal/gem needs in the future! Easily my favorite bead store in SF - if not ever! The place is packed with gems - pun intended - and has a very nice, wide selection. Prices are reasonable. But what I love most is that it is amazingly organized, given the selection that they have. It must take them forever to keep it so neat! Some guy was getting a Feng Shui reading in there while I was shopping, which I found entertaining. Since I'm a feng shui fan myself, that gets an extra star! read more

I went in today looking for some specific semi precious stone beads and to see about getting a necklace repaired. The owner was super patient with me and helpful. I kept forgetting which beads were which and he was super helpful and kind. I cant help but think folks who had bad interactions with him might have been the problem themselves. read more

What a "Gem" of a place...a dear friend brought me to Karizma, and now many years later, I consider this my only place to be assured I am getting the best quality of stones, artwork and things I need and/enjoy having around me for total peace and harmony. I brought in two necklaces to have the clasps replaced. The male owner was very helpful and very reasonable on the materials and no cost of his labor. There are many wonderful finds in this store. It is a great place to window shop too. I hope these small businesses will not be hit by the uptick in rents. Shop and buy local is my model, especially since the Upper Market and Castro is losing great local stores like this one. I make wire rings and other jewelry as kind of a side hobby. This place takes the cake for having a great selection of beautiful beads. I love dropping by here when I'm in the neighborhood - always end up picking up a little something for myself or a gift. I've been happy with my crystals and cage container and leather strap purchase. I've been looking for a beaded stone turquoise bracelet in San Francisco for a long time. Then I walked into Karizma and met the sweet owner, Momo. Momo made a beautiful turquoise stone beaded bracelet for me. Karizma is a magnificent little store that looks like a museum. There is no other store like Karizma in San Francisco. Negative 5 stars. The shopkeeper was rude and unhelpful. I came to see if he could fix a cheap beaded bracelet as the strings were fallen apart. I expected that it was probably not worth repairing before walking in. I wanted to see if he could replace the strings with something more permanent. His solution? Replace it with the same exact string! I asked a few more questions to see of there was any way to fix it so it would last...basically to upgrade it. He could've just said sorry theres no way and here is why. Instead his responses were rude and condescending. Like I wasnt worth his time and just wanted me to leave. Um has this guy heard of customer service? When I called him out on his unhelpfulness, he had the nerve to say "what's so hard to understand?" I walked out and called him an asshole, then he proceeds to follow me out of the store and scream obscenities at me in the street. Wow. Idk how the other reviews are positive. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

I go to Karizma at least twice a week for beading supplies and also buy gemstones and crystals. I have never seen a better selection of quartz amethyst and many other crystals. The store owners as well as the staff are very knowledgeable and always give me a deal. They have been very kind and courteous everytime. It is one of my favorite stops in town! read more

I had an excellent trip to this store in July while in SF buying gifts for others and wanted to say keep up the good work! I'm a young graduate student (molecular biology, but I may change fields) and as I spend more time in daily meditation, I am beginning to be more interested in research the science behind crystals, their properties, healing, etc. Suffice it to say this store was helpful to my personal life and my investigations =) I spent more time in Karizma than Crystal Way, and was initially a bit hesitant of the man behind the counter, but after we warmed up to one another (and I began to use my asian bargaining skills!) I had more fun, purchased more, got a discount, and he seemed to be more satisfied with me as a customer! Be careful of the con men outside who'll try to steal your money (and time); though they likely won't go inside these store. read more

Stay away. Stay far away. The customer service here is awful. Don't bother to call ahead to see if they have what you want - they will tell you that they are too busy to answer your question. There is a big language barrier with the staff here. Their selection of beads is very disappointing. My hunch is that this is not a true bead store but a front for something else - that's the only possible explanation for this place. Heed my warning. I read a bad review of this on another site and I called them anyway and went to the store. All wasted time experiences. read more

NEVER GO NEAR THIS PSYCO B..CH!! The owner, as Asian lady, (think she's the owner) accused me of looking "shady" because I kept putting my hands in my pockets. I am a 68 year old, very nice person, NEVER HAS ANY ACCUSED me of anything, especially in front of her clientele. Friendly owner, however I was VERY unimpressed with the bead quality in this store. Very poor.

I could spend hours in this store, totally overwhelmed by how much of everything they have. Today was the first time I realized they had some incredible fossils, including a dinosaur egg, 10 million year old fish, and a trilobite. I was looking for Herkimer diamonds, and they had a nice selection. They have stones I have never heard of, really beautiful and unique jewelry (especially pendants), and rose quarts crystal penises of all sizes. I bought my girlfriend a tiny pink penis after she broke up with someone, wishing her a good omen on getting better luck in the future. (Now that I think of it, maybe a larger size would have been better luck than a teeny pocket sized one) Great place to buy gifts for yourself and others! read more

Went in here today to find beads for a dress I am making and was encountered by a rude owner. Sorry but for a crystal shop the energy in there was just too negative. I prefer Baubles and Baubles in Berkeley friendly staff and helpful. Won't be returning anytime soon. read more

First off I want to say this is such a cute hole in the wall crystal shop, they have the most beautiful gems and stones in the cases in the back but they are HEAVILY overpriced. Maybe it's the area. Maybe there are lots of returning customers paying the outrageous pricing, thus it being so high. What ever it may be its very disappointing. The small tumbled stones where of low quality and overpriced as well. They had angel aura Quartz for $95 for a 1.5 inch point. WTF seriously !? Anyways the guy who might have been the owner was neither rude or nice. He was just on the phone the whole time, following me around the shop but never greeting me( he was on phone whole time) anyways I didn't buy anything. Was not worth it to me. I started crocheting in FEB12 yarn, twine, might try plarn... now started using wire and making jewelry and have been crazed with sterling silver and semi-precious stones. Have been to General Bead, yeah it's dusty, maybe dirty but great selection, and true they are out of stock on some items, but who isn't? I went to the Bead Store and was not impressed, she told me to go to Karizma.... So I went to Karizma, Thomas was very helpful, he had a lot of sterling silver earwire, and helped me choose a few pairs. The little container had the loose earwires of different shapes and styles, so it took some tweezers and a watchful eye to match them up, he bagged them individually so I didn't have to go through it again, perfect. I wanted to see some lapis and turquoise, and while I'm at it, some peridot, no problem go to the back, meanwhile I chose some sterling silver chains and he made me a couple of 16' beauties. I was free to look and when I needed to touch and choose, he brought them out and gave me a tray to deposit my selections. I am Asian and I like the customer service. I hope you all go and check them out. While I was looking a customer came in to pick up his watch, I overheard him give his gratitude and a job well done, so happy customers in and out. The negative was incense burning, I usually don't like that stuff, but I was so elated at all the beads, jewels and more, I learned to breathe through it. Also, I asked for hummingbirds, [he happen to have a nice silver, and shell hummingbird pin on his cap, cosmic!] he showed me two different ones, not what I was looking for, but he showed me a dolphin, I love dolphins, so it was cool and now I have another project to work on. LOVE this shop! It has a wonderful, positive "vibe" and gorgeous jewelry and beads. The owner is lovely and has an open, generous spirit. I brought in a ring for Momo to repair with a new Rose Quartz picked out of the case which they carved and set; it is GORGEOUS. She has a vast knowledge of the power of precious stones and crystals. Yes, most pieces are a tad high, but the quality more than makes up for it. The energy and spirit of this business are really uplifting. read more

this is, bar none, my favorite bead store in all of the city. i love the incredible personalized attention i get whenever i go in. and the great working relationship mg and i have is so helpful when i'm caught in a slump with a design. she always has a fantastic idea to give my piece new life. the quality of the craftsmanship that comes out of the shop is also quite amazing. i've designed and had custom made several things and have been 100% pleased with the outcome of them. the gigantic stores may have every single little thing, but there's never been anything i've been looking for that i haven't been able to find at Karizma, and the personality of the store and the owner make every visit an absolute delight! rochelle foles haute mélange san francisco read more

One of the best bead stores I've been in - filled with beautiful objects, jewelry, beads and findings. Being from out of town, I felt like I hit the jackpot. High quality products from raw and polished stones through finished goods. Prices range from low to high. The woman I spoke with was wonderful, informative and knowledgeable. They may not have all the beads you are looking for but they have some you won't find in other places. Whenever I'm in SF you can bet I'll make a stop here. read more

Unfortunately had a poor experience here. My husband's watch needed to have some links removed and unfortunately one of the links in the watch was damaged during the resetting and it was put together unevenly (with the links on one side of the watch face numbering 8 and the other side 5). This meant the watch sat unevenly when you tried to put it on. We tried to discuss that with the management but we were told that we shouldn't be so fussy. We had to go to a different shop to get the links reset and we'll have to get the damaged link replaced. We were disappointed by the quality of service and when we pointed out the issues we were dismissed. I think that if you have a basic issue and aren't critical of the evenness of the work then it is in a good location and it may work for you. read more

This is not your run of the mill bead store- you're not going to find a slew of cheap beads, but what you will find are a lot of beautiful semi-precious stone beads, lovely findings, vintage jewelry, and gorgeous crystals. I met Tom (who may be the owner) today when I came in to check on getting a ring sized. Having read some of the other reviews I was prepared for a grumpy dude. But Tom is not that at all. His tone is rather abrupt, but after you talk with him for awhile you'll realize that's just the way he talks. He's actually a very nice, helpful, knowledgeable guy. He wasn't able to size my ring (because of the way it's made) but helped me find another solution. His store is packed with amazing jewelry (very reasonably priced, too!), as well as stones and beads for making your own jewelry. He knows a lot about stones, too. I really liked him. Go. Karizma is an eclectic store that has been at Church and Market for years. Originally selling mostly crystals and tumbled stones, but the new owners expanded the the style of the store by adding accessories, antique styles of jewelry, objet d'art beads and findings. It is impossible to adequately describe the inventory except to say you're sure to find at least something that appeals to you. The owners often travel to China for new things and scour flea markets and obscur shops that only they know about to find unusual objects. The owners speak English as a second language and though shrewd merchants are infinitely kind and helpful. If you find a language problem, all you have to do is politely try again until you understand each other. Seems like a great store to browse on a rainy day, or any other really. I feel good when I'm there and I like these people. read more
