Karma coffee has great staff and a lot of potential. However, the coffee is way over-roasted. In their light roasts, an oil slick was visible on the beans. This is an indication that even the darkest french roast has been overdone. The coffee tastes like charcoal and found this to be true in their lattes, espresso, and in the french press pots I brewed at home. ahh... coffee. The 20oz - Triple Shot -Mocha is the best. The quality is consistant. Sometimes it takes abit to get your coffee, but it is made really well. This place makes coffee and art. The owner is really cool, and you can tell he is really into what he does. I sat in the back working, and watched him balance phone calls, roasting beans, and customers just shooting the shit with him. It was a dance, and he did it with grace. I love this place. It's a little hidden away, but this roastery and coffee shop is a great find. I like that they sell bags as small as a quarter-pound, which is nice if I just want to try something new for a few days. In addition, they have different varieties of cold brew-- a lot of places just choose one bean to make their cold brew. They also have a lot of pour-over options, and they're cheaper than a lot of places that also roast their own beans, like George Howell. Would appreciate it if Karma put roast level on their bags. Bought a bag of Espresso not realizing it was a really dark roast. Not my style at all. Would avoid if you prefer lighter roasts, where there are flavors other than burnt. read more

I've gotten over the lack of food options because the coffee is just so damn good I don't really care any more. This is now where I get all my beans. I've been a Peet's adherent for several years now, but Karma has taken their place. 1) the coffee variety and roast is great 2) the resealable, airtight packaging makes it perfect to keep around the house. When I actually get an espresso at the store, it's good though not at the level of Stumptown (the pinnacle of espresso IMHO). This place is really...really...really...nice! The cappuccino was amazing and had the right texture balance of velvety pillow mouthfeel. Excellent associates too, attention to detail when preparing my cappuccino and took the time to create perfection unlike most other cafe. My favorite coffee shop is America is Kings Road Cafe in Los Angles but Karma Coffee is my second favorite and number #1 on the east coast. read more

A real hidden gem of Sudbury. Great coffee, atmosphere, and service. I wish I had discovered it sooner.

Once upon a time there was a style of coffee called Vienna roast... I had the good fortune to learn about coffee in SF in the 1970s, and Europe in later years. Since then, fad and fashion, environmental disasters and currency fluctuation have made the kind of coffee I like all but unavailable. Finding Karma coffee in my own backyard was a revelation. After a long talk with the owner after the place closed one day, I started a tour of their offerings. A couple of buzzed months later, I had tried everything in that magical middle-roast range: dark but not black, intensely fragrant without smoke, oily and rich and far too rarely found. The guy's an artist; I know from experience that just tens of seconds up or down in roasting time, or a few degrees off in temperature, ruin that kind of quality. And his raw beans are outstanding. I especially recommend the Organic Bali Kintamani, the single best coffee I've had since Cambridge Coffee Tea & Spice's master-roaster retired. (Even equal to it, and perhaps the offerings of the old Graffeo and Mr. Peet's original place in Gourmet Ghetto. A bargain at the same price per pound we paid there in 1976!) That varietal has the cherries dried on before cleaning, and the resulting fruitiness is a synaesthetic dream. I've told everyone I know, and out-of-town friends get it by mail now. A real gift to the true lovers of the queen bean, and a must-try. May they ever thrive. read more

I first came across Karma Coffee while shopping in Whole Foods. Intrigued by the name and the fact they put the roasted date on the bags, I tried their coffee. I'm so happy I did! The Ethiopian Harrar is my favorite and Ethiopian Mokamba a very close second. These coffees are dark and rich without the bitterness. These folks take coffee seriously without being pretentious. I'm not a coffee snob, so I sometimes feel a bit out of place here, but I know enough to know what I like and I feel they have great coffee. I was recently recommended to go to George Howell coffee in Newton Heights, as a premier location in Boston for coffee beans. There the latte was excellent but the beans that I bought were super expensive and very bitter, perhaps over roasted. At Karma, the beans are always very aromatic and to me more tasty, and more reasonably priced (though still way expensive at about $16 per lb.) The ambience of the location is about as low as you can get: a cinder-block nearly windowless 'space', so that is definitely not in the plus column. But overall great place. read more

A friend recently turned my family onto Karma Coffee. Good coffee but I do not think think an iced mocha is worth $5.00! The employees here definitely know their stuff, but one really annoying thing that happens every time.... For example, AFTER I order a "medium iced mocha" the employee then asks "so do you want a #ounce? #ounce or #ounce?". I say "I wold like the medium", then they look at me with four heads and say "oh so you want the #ounce?" You have your coffee cups sizes on display.... 3 for hot and 3 for cold (small, medium and large). I want the medium! How can ordering a medium that confusing and difficult? It's like the employees are purposely giving me a tough time and it comes across a bit snobbish. read more

Karma coffee is amazing-- both the beans to take home and brew or the coffee made on premises to enjoy. Well worth the 1-hour drive and battling Boston traffic. My only complaint is that the hours are far too short during the week and makes it difficult for folks to just drop in on their way home from work or what not. But again, the coffee is absolutely delicious and high quality. I'd rank it right up there with Average Joe's in New York City, La Colombe in Philly, or Peregrine in Washington, DC. read more

Coffee making is an art form here, taken seriously to ensure that every customer gets a cup of handmade perfection. This is out of my way, but well worth the drive. As a former Metro West resident, I can say with confidence that the string of towns from Lincoln through Concord and Acton to Stow is in constant need of decent food and drink choices. This is a wonderful gem of a coffee shop. This is what third wave should be. It's too bad that the workers and the owner don't know what they have or what 3rd wave even is. They are closed on Sunday and for a 3rd wave person like me this is an issue. I asked them more about the coffee community in this area and the responses I got were if I told you then I would be giving information about our competitors or I don't know. Huh how do you not know? Also coffee education among the staff is weak at best. This is not Starbucks people this is 3rd wave you are supposed to be educated about your product and where it's sourced. Perhaps I am used to my san diego coffee community where the owners and the workers are always sharing information about beans and who has what. If this owner knew what they had their shop could be elevated to a different level. I am not sure who they think their competitors are. When I come back I will continue to frequent this shop since it's the only 3rd wave shop. I can't believe in such an educated city that the choices are so lacking. read more

I've enjoyed my experience every time I step through the door since I moved into the area 1 1/2 years ago. The owner is pleasant and helpful. While I hadn't bought my coffee maker in his shop, he carries the same brand and told me how best to get the most out of the machine. His insight into the right grinder was super helpful. The staff in there are enthusiasts and I appreciate they're attention to detail. It's nice to have such a great place tucked away for only the few to find it .... on the other hand if they wish to grow, they'll need more of a presence. read more

We drive an hour each way whenever we have a free Saturday morning or are in need of more beans for home brew. My favorite thing is to find hole-in-the-wall coffee shops with bold, flavorful ICED coffee that doesn't need added sugar or cream to taste good. This is the only place I've ever found that delivers just that. The Guatemalan, Ethiopian Harrar, and Brazil are just a few of my favorites. I cold brew them at home and it's always delicious. I would go every day, twice a day if I lived closer. read more

This place is small and in a quirky spot with minimal parking but we really enjoy their coffee. It's a treat for us.

I am a fan of the coffee. But a word of warning. Their roasting method results in beans that are very dark & oily. They can cause problems with home grinders. When I grind their beans, I routinely end up with a grinder that doesn't work because the oily grind has gummed up the burr and other parts. I have to take apart & clean the grinder. It's a pain. I wish they would switch to a more standard roast with less oil. read more
