I was driving through Sudbury looking for a smoothie for lunch. I found Sudbury Coffee Works along my route and decided to stop in. The staff were friendly and greeted me promptly. It was well laid out with lots of tables for conversation seemed busy with different groups of people enjoying beverages or sandwiches. One section of display case had some baked goods but an additional case was oddly empty. Off to the side were wooden barrels of different coffee beans. They had some sandwiches on the menu but I didn't even look at those because I wasn't interested in a sandwich today. They also had a list of about 12 speciality drinks that were coffee concoctions or things with ice cream. I chose a strawberry banana smoothie from their long list of fruit blends. It looked pretty and was not at all chunky. However, it was so sweet that I needed a sip of water right after my first sip and went back for a second sip of smoothie. It was so sugary and not in an enjoyable way, even for this sweet tooth. This drink tasted like what might have been used was some sort of strawberry juice concentrate or sweetened strawberries - like the ones that you'd use to top shortcake or an ice cream sundae. I detected no banana flavor at all. I had to dump the smoothie once I got to my location. Since I don't go to Sudbury very often, I will likely not be back and would not likely recommend their smoothies. Maybe I should've stuck with coffee- it was in the name after all. read more

I went here twice on my stay. The first time I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor of the coffee. I almost didn't go back, but on Friday it was on my way to my destination & with the cold rainy weather I needed my fix. I'm glad I did, I don't know what the difference was but the coffee was much better the second time. Both times the staff were friendly. I was in & out in no time both times. Do not be fooled by the roasting apparatus lying just inside the door, or by the barrel of freshly roasted espresso beans literally by the cash register. Sudbury Coffee Works serves NESPRESSO if you order a latte! When I explained to the cashier that I did not want a latte made from coffee pods, he told me at various times that (a) I was being too picky, (b) that people "from the area" like what they get at Sudbury, (c) that Starbucks serves espresso that might be more to my liking, and that (d) he ultimately wanted me to be happy, so he would remake my drink. I changed my order to a hazelnut coffee with milk. He steamed the milk with the Nespresso machine to make it more latte-like. It was just OK. I really wanted a longer and more nuanced flavor profile, and what I got was flat and one-note. I also ordered a blueberry scone, which was flavorless and forgettable. read more

Haven't been here for awhile so stopped in for a quick bite. Ordered a cranberry pecan chicken salad w/brioche bread and Gouda cheese. At first glance all I could see was a lot of lettuce then the bread then some chicken. As soon as I took a bite it basically fell apart. Not enough chicken salad and was lacking flavor for the price. Found tables not clean and it was quite noisy with people behind the counter dropping what sounded like pans. Maybe they were having an off day, but I won't be returning any time soon. read more

My first time in in a long time. Went in, ordered an egg sandwich and an espresso, paid and was out within ten minutes. Faster than a lot of drive through places. Only a hair over $8. My sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel was fresh, hot and delicious. More than I can say for the big donut chain. The espresso was hot and bold. Delicious. It looked like a comfortable place to hang out for a bit, both inside and outside. I'll have to do that some time. The service was quick, polite and accurate. I love this bright, airy little gem! It meets all my "requirements:" natural light, tons of (fresh!) food options, lots of coffee variety, and plenty of open spaces for seating. Great for groups or singles. I visited at 9:00 on a summer Monday and most indoor tables were available. I was just popping in to get a breakfast sandwich on the go...but I would definitely come back for a leisurely meal and for a chill workspace. So many fresh pastries, plus The. Freshest. Bagel. Today I asked for a grilled shrimp on a Caesar salad. I was given coconut, which I absolutely abhor and was told there was no Caesar dressing. Had the person spoken better English, which is something I constantly struggle with when I go there, I would get the correct food that I ordered. The quality of food is wonderful, but it's very frustrating that the women or the men at the counter often don't speak very good English. read more

I go out of my way to visit the Sudbury Market and had no idea this was basically across the street and I have definitely missed out for years! Lovely spot with plenty of parking and cheerful employees. I loved the barrels of coffee beans they had on display. Great menu too with plenty of coffee choices, bagels and bagel sandwiches and bakery items. I got the special apple butter flavored ice coffee and it was amazing. Rich and creamy and definitely a nice amount of caffeine. I also tried the egg and cheese with cream cheese and tomato slice (done perfectly with cream cheese on both sides!) bagel sandwich and absolutely no complaints. I loved the crispy bagel and so many places only put cream cheese on one side but Sudbury Coffee Works put it on both without my asking - impressed! Finally, grabbed a seven layer bar and that paired great with the coffee. It wasn't overly messy which is hard to do with a bar like that so that was awesome. If i could give zero stars I would! Went in and stood in line waiting. They have two rather casual lines. One man in front of me to the left so I stood there waiting for the next available woman to come over. When a woman came over she instantly started talking to a man who just walked in the door like i didn't even exist. I speak out and ask where I'm supposed to order and this woman says, just wherever the next person is, great, because i was standing there for about 5 minutes and she just ignored me. THEN, when she's done getting that man's coffee, she asks the couple behind me what they wanted!! She knew i had been standing there before even the other man she waited on. I was in the mood to try something new, and this place caught my eye on Doordash. The prices were reasonable, and it just sounded good. So, I ordered a medley of pastries and sandwiches, a couple of savory filled croissants (cheddar and turkey is really good, ham and swiss is absurdly delicious), and their excellent hot chocolate. Absolutely everything was great! The savory filled croissants are flaky, filling, and packed with meat and cheese. They look a bit odd to be honest, but not unpleasant, and after the first bite I stopped caring anyway. The cheese and cherry danishes are the best I've ever had by far; they're not just the grossly sweet bread with frosting on top that you may have had inflicted on You in the past. Rather they're slightly dense near the rich filling, and flaky outside. They're also, and this is true for all of their desserts, just the right amount of sweet. Even the cinnamon roll was PERFECT without being too much, and the cocoa was rich and mouth-filling. The sandwiches are excellent too, with a huge array of customization options from bread to fillings. They're not overloaded, but the price is right and one sandwich is definitely a filling meal. As a bonus you have tons of options for additions, and they cost nothing except for $.50 for cheeses. My mother had an herbed chicken salad with cucumber, dill havarti cheese, and avocado on peasant white and its as GOOD. I had the pesto, roasted chicken, mozzarella and tomato panini on a rich, parmasan-crusted bread. So yeah, I can't recommend this place enough. Next up I'm going to try their muffins, coffee, and smoothies, because I'm pretty sure that anything they make is going to be delicious. Oh and the delivery was painless, prompt, and everything arrived in good shape. I live a distance away, so I knew I'd have to reheat the cocoa, but that was no problem at all. I have been going to Sudbury Coffee Works for 20 years and the prior ownership was excellent. The Kenya AA has been my go-to coffee and has always been excellent. Aside from the 50% price increase, the coffee has been suspect recently. I moved to Texas and have continued to order several pounds each month. Unfortunately, I have reached the end and will not order again. The 6 pounds I ordered came completely burnt. It tastes like a cigarette was ground up in each pound and it makes the coffee undrinkable. I suffered through the first pound, but just threw away the other 5 pounds I ordered. This is not the first time receiving underwhelming / burnt coffee, but it is certainly the last. Many things have gone downhill since ownership changed, but bad coffee is a deal-killer. read more

I ordered almost 100 sandwiches for a socially distanced lunch event. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, I needed all of the sandwiches to be individually wrapped so they could be grab-and-go. Daniel came up with the perfect variety of options including ham, turkey, roast beef, and chicken and all of them looked wonderful. We needed 6 veggie sandwiches and received 3 different veggie options as well. Everything was labeled clearly. It was all beyond anything I could have hoped for in terms of presentation and options to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to change the original delivery date with very little notice (not even a single business day) and he replied very early in the morning, on a Sunday when the restaurant is closed, that he was willing and able to accommodate my request. It was such a relief. Delivery was on time and we received a variety of condiments to go with the sandwiches. I appreciated that by working with a small local business and connecting directly with the owner, I was able to get such personalized and friendly service. I highly recommend Sudbury Coffee Works, esp. for catering, and will definitely work with them again for events like this! read more

I never knew how refreshing it would be to be handed coffee in a styrofoam cup. This place figured out a formula that successfully mixes simplicity with character. The atmosphere screams "coffee shop for the locals" while a self-declared bostonian for life found it charming. I was sad " to-go" while so many were able to sit and read the morning newspaper or even break out the laptop at 7:30am while enjoying their morning brew. I was a bit nervous when I saw the bagels were kept in plastic bags... it either meant they were frozen then thawed or shipped across state borders and delivered last week (not from NYC). This fear is based on the several coffee shops in the boston/cambridge area who call stale bread with a hole in the center a bagel. To my surprise, Sudbury Coffee Works- whether it's shipped or made in-house- delivered a bagel outside of NYC that pleased a tough bagel critic. Simplicity won again, with a perfectly delicious, straight-to-the-point breakfast sandwich (although word on the street is that the croissant is the way to go). I love coffee and coffee shops. I have been in a couple of times and while I think it's okay it's definitely just a smidge above mediocre. No free wifi? Is that a thing? Yes. With so many amazing competitiors around, you'd think Sudbury Coffee Works would step up it's game. The fresh roasts are better at both Armeno and Karma and the vibe at Karma and The Coffee Loft are both more inviting in different ways. So I'm not quite sure how a place that roasts coffee and purports to serve espresso drinks does not have an espresso machine. Most places I walk into have the espresso machine prominently displayed. I didn't see it when I walked in, but I figured that since they had the roasters out, maybe the espresso machine was somewhere I couldn't see it. So I ordered my drink. The cashier turned around, put a cup under a smallish machine that can probably be purchased at Target, pushed a button, and a few minutes later handed me my "latte". Great coffee & sandwich spot close to route 20 in Sudbury. I must confess, I don't drink coffee, but it must be good based on the lines and what seems like a loyal following (they know many of their customers by name). Besides coffee and breakfast items, they also have sandwiches and salads there, and fresh made soup and calzones. You can order a menu sandwich, or build your own. They even let you get half sandwiches. They have specials everyday and post them online, which is great because you can check them out before making the trip there. The veggie wrap is one of my favorites, order that and one of the delicious items from their bakery case and you're guaranteed a happy lunch! read more

Good lord, this place is awful. It's the first time I've ordered food, tried to eat it, tossed it, and then headed to a different (and far better) coffee shop. The staff was meh. I asked the young girl for suggestions off the food menu, and she had none. I never got a smile, a "have a nice day," or a thanks. That should have been a warning. I ended up with an egg and cheese on an English muffin. One word: inedible. Egg was microwaved (I expect that from Dunkin Donuts, not from a local coffee shop) and it tasted like cardboard. My iced tea was fine. Tasted a bit like Lipton from a can without sugar, but the cover didn't fit on the cup--no matter how much I tried. Also, I find it odd that they charge local businesses to let their business cards or signs sit in their shop. Most local businesses that I know that allow this do it for free as a tribute to other small businesses in the area. And the proceeds benefit 'staff outings'? It's just odd.
