One day many years ago, I was wandering through Malibu on my way to ice cream and the beach. When I came across a pet adoption, provided by Karma Rescue. They have touched my heart in so many ways, for so many years. The photos attached below are from our last recent event, partnered with Subaru and Ozzie and Friends. It was the best day I can remember In a long while, it was so enjoyable to be of service and productive. I have a long history, it's been a decade volunteering on and off with Karma Rescue. But I'm Not here toot my own horn. Previously Karma provided animal adoptions and I adopted two of my sweetest dog friends from Karma. Karma has always been kind and wonderful with their volunteers and the wonderful animal services they provide to our fur friends. Currently, they provide spay and neutering services to low income communities. At low to zero cost. Which esp, for many animals keeps them safe and extends their lifespans. We have an event to thank our donors this weekend in El Segundo, and I'm looking forward to it as always. Annie Ward is a gem of a human and manages us volunteers. I contacted Karma Rescue go on out general information application. I received it immediate courteous response. I've been trying for weeks to get my not so feral Kitty Tiki Moon 2 spayed. Everybody else wasn't taking appointments they were charging twice the price these people were kind enough to schedule me up an appointment and ended up being with the place I usually go to in Riverside so I know the people that they weren't booking appointments online. Everything went like clockwork I had a courtesy reminder I took her in left her in good care picked her up early took her home to comfort her. Very thankful read more

This Rescue is AMAZING!!! I had rescued a pitbull from a backyard and I was already in debt pretty bad from taking her to the pet emergency room due to all the health issues she had, so when it came time to spay her I couldn't afford it. I did some research and found Karma Rescue's website which said they help with low cost spay. After I emailed them they replied back almost immediately and told me they were going to pay FOR EVERYTHING!! I thought it was too good to be true, but in less than a week they had already made an appointment at another vet and set up everything for her getting fixed. She was part of the Paws for Life program and has been an absolutely dream because of all of the amazing training she received. The most caring, responsible and knowledgeable rescue group I've ever worked with. Go to one of their rescue events and you will be able to tell right away how well-taken-care-of all their animals are! We just rescued Bess just a few weeks ago, and the adoption process could not have been easier. First, you fill out their adoption application online (so much better than printing out, filling out, faxing, worrying about application mixups and delays). Then, Karma gets back to you almost immediately! I heard back from Marnae within 2 days' time! We got to meet Bess within the week, and scheduled the home visit the very next day...and that was it! She was home! They are also SO wonderfully involved. Bess's foster dad loved her so much and has been helping us transition her to our home. One night, we even called him at 3am because we were worried sick about her and he gladly assisted us newbies...I've got to remember to take him to lunch or something for that haha I can't say enough good things about Karma Rescue...my advice is, if you're in the market for a great loving bully breed, this is the place to go! I have known and been involved with Karma Rescue for just about 10 years now. They are an excellent organization that takes the lives of dogs very seriously. My dog was dropped off at the shelter, with a shattered pelvis and broken leg. Karma rescued him, paid for this surgery, his physical therapy, all his medications and now he is a happy, loved dog who sleeps warm in my bed every night. I can't imagine the amount of dogs that would be put down with out the help of Karma and all the other rescue organizations in LA and the nation. There are far too many as it stands. read more

I have had the privilege of adopting three members of my family through Karma Rescue. All were on the "red list" at West Valley Animal Shelter and Karma saved them through their diligent and constant efforts to save as many lives as possible. Through my own personal experience, I have found this rescue organization to be nothing but 200% above board in their practices - in every respect. There are two sides to every story and the mud slinging based off one slanted newscast needs to stop. Did anyone even take into consideration the fact that the dog in question is no longer in a shelter with an extremely high kill rate??? Stop the judgment. The truth will come out. read more

Four years after adopting my dog from Karma, Casian (one of the trainers) will still call from time to time and check in on the little guy! And I can hit them up with questions and they will always get back to me right away with great advice. They primarily take in and foster pits, but they rescue other breeds as well. When I first got Jimbo (pit/lab mix), they brought him to the house, went on a dogwalk with me, and made sure I knew what I was doing. They ask for a small donation, which keeps them running and lets them know you're in a position financially to provide for your beastie. Although I would absolutely never give up my boy, I do know that Karma would take him back in a heartbeat and make sure he found a great home. Very responsible and caring people! read more

I don't think Karma even really adopts pets out anymore, but I want to share my experience regardless. After searching for many months, and fostering a dog for another rescue, I decided to reach out to Karma in regards to adopting one of their dogs. It took a few days to get a phone call back. When I explained to Alex, Program Director, on the phone what I was hoping for in a forever friend (a dog that was mellow enough to come to work with me, work out with me - run/play/etc, and be great with all other dogs because I do not have a yard and it would be mostly dog parks for playing), she listened and said that the dog I was inquiring about was perfect. Again, I let her know that the dog I need would have to be mellow and easy going with other dogs. I also told her that it had been a long-time dream of mine to be able to volunteer at hospitals with my dogs. I was more than willing to do the training with an adult dog to get to this point. Alex said "This is your dog and we will help you." She said that Karma would help with training and getting me on that path. The dog I adopted was in their Paws for Life training program in Lancaster. I drove up and met Alex their to meet this beautiful dog for the first time. They noted to me that his one "thing" was that he was very vocal when playing. They let me see him with a German Shepherd there and he was very loud. Now, I must take responsibility and say that after that I should have said no to this dog. However, the inmates were really awesome in saying that he was perfect on pack walks everyday and very receptive to their trainings. Another red flag: When I was speaking with the handlers, I told them that I really wanted to have a dog that would be able to get along with the other dogs at work and be calm and volunteer with the dog. The inmates looked at each other a bit concerned and Alex said "well why do you need a dog to volunteer with? Is it for you or what?" I said that I wanted to give back and I had known friends who took their dogs to the children's hospitals and the difference it made in those kids lives was amazing. She said - "Well you can pretty much train him to do anything." Fast forward - within the first couple weeks of having my new furry roommate, I had to reach out to Alex a couple of times. On the phone I expressed that I was having alot of behavioral issues with him in the home and out at the dog park. He was getting aggressive towards me and other dogs and being destructive. The first time I spoke with Alex she simply said that I have to be stern and just to crate him. When I expressed that it sucked to crate him all day long she said I could just bring the crate to work then... Kindof putting a band-aide on a bullet wound, no? A few weeks after, I called her again expressing still the same frustrations. On the phone Alex raised her voice at me saying "Look I have a lot going on right now so just call this guy he trains our Karma dogs." Bye B***h! Cool whatever, so Manny, the trainer did come for a hefty fee and helped alot. However, the issues with the pup kept happening. So, now after trying multiple trainers, day cares, etc etc and money money money. I am finally coming to terms that this beautiful dog is not the right fit for me. I love him dearly and he is an amazing dog, but I must rehome him. I reached out to Kati and Alex to let them know that I am starting the process of finding him a forever home with certain things like a yard he can have all to himself. Guess what? - NO RESPONSE. But it's nice to see that they are active on their Instagram - they just can't bother to help someone who actually paid and adopted a dog from them. A few other things - CGC for their dogs: They have the Paws for Life inmates get the dogs ready and have someone proctor the CGC testing. HOWEVER - you need to get in contact with the person who did the test. Pay her, then pay the AKC to actually even get the certificate. Sorry but you shouldn't be marketing your adoptable dogs as being CGC certified if don't have their certificates. Be honest and up front with this - I saw that a previous yelp review said the same thing. Karma supposedly offers one free training a month for the entire time you have your dog. Goodluck with this sh*t. I only heard from them once about being able to come use this. Never again. I'm not the only person I know with a Karma dog this disappointed in them. My recent experience was a bit unique, a lost Karma Rescue dog ended up on our patio... most likely got lost during all the fireworks for 4th of July. After I reached out and informed them, they were quick to respond and pick-up the dog. Mad props for coming by so quickly despite it being so late at night. Not what they say they are, in my experience at least. They misrepresented the dog and she was not trained nor did I receive the paperwork promised to me. A heartbreak for me and the poor dog who must be totally confused now and after my losing my 13-year-old lab/mix last month. More assembly line than anything else, not the breed, not the training, not the weight that they represented, just a total fabrication and when I asked for help I received none. The dog was aggressive towards both people and other animals, me, destructive, incessant whining, constantly jumping on me, did not sit and stay yet they represented she passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen Testing and Training Course but NEVER gave me the paperwork, which I requested on multiple occasions, proving same. I feel sorry for the poor dog who was treated like a queen in my home with 5 beds, wild fish, toys, a doggy door, 4,000 sq feet of outdoor fenced space to roam and play and now is probably in a cage to small for her because stretched out, which she likes to do she is more than 5 feet long. No, I do not believe from my experience that they have the animal's or adopted parents best interests at heart. What a travesty. Caveat Emptor. read more

There are MANY, and most do not go to the lengths that Karma does to rescue and care for the dogs that they rescue. Karma rescue is seriously the best!! Me and my bf are in such a debt to them. We were looking everywhere that does a low cost neuter when We came across them.. They got back to us so quick!!! Told us they'll pay for everything and in less than a week I got my 2 dogs neutered. I suggest everyone here! Karma Rescue is a wonderful responsible rescue agency. They work with juveniles in prison for responsible dog ownership, they offer free spay and neutering for hundreds of dogs each year, and they primarily focus on large breed dogs which are so hard to place. My neighbors adopted a pit bull from Karma rescue and I immediately fell in love. Karma is a wonderful group that helps this wonderful breed by saving them from the pound. My neighbor's dog is the sweetest girl you will ever meet. She was very shy at first, but then once she got used to her surroundings she came out of her shell in a very big way. I rate Karma Rescue up there as the most responsible dog adopters I know of for hard-to-place so-called "bully" dogs. The dogs they save from being euthanized at shelters are fostered out to carefully selected, loving home that will provide training and boundaries with Karma Rescue picking up the tab for food and doctor care util they find their forever home. I am especially proud of the education program started by Karma to show youngsters the absolute cruelty and horror of fighting dogs who will do anything to please their owners. Despite bad rap it is NOT the nature of pittiies to fight. They would rather get into bed at night and sleep in your arms. If you are considering adoption Karma Rescue is your place to go. The animals are FIXED, have up-to-date shots, and a trainer and founder of Karma Rescue come to your house for an inspection and training tips for responsible pet ownership. When driving through the streets of LA can always spot a Karma Rescue and I stop if I can and chat with the new owners. They are totally blissed out with their dogs. We got an amazing girl, Mabel, from Karma Rescue in April 2015. The process couldn't have been better. We met Mabel at their Westwood adoption event and fell in love. I have personally experienced the way Karma Rescue does business and may I say it is absolutely unethical. My sons Rhodesian Ridgeback was found by Karma and in all efforts refused to place her back in our home. Karma "Rescue" may be a reputable organization and have a long standing of helping animals and families. But in my experience I've concluded that they are simply in the business to make money and help their own whether to breed or get a deal on a beautiful rare animal such as my sons dog. Their "selection" process when adopting an animal is a joke as well. They factor income, location, and type of residence yet they also claim they will waive their "Donation fee" if assistance is needed. STAY AWAY FROM KARMA RESCUE. If you are ever in the unfortunate situation as I am and Karma "Rescue" finds your beloved animal, good luck, because they will sell him to one of their personal friends knowing you are looking for him. once again STAY AWAY read more

A little over 2 years ago we decided we wanted to adopt a Pit Bull. Looking at Adopt A Pet and a few rescues we saw one that interested us that was with Karma Rescue. We wanted to meet the dog more than once before committing to adopt and they were so accommodating and responsive. We adopted our Roxy from them. I was so impressed by the organization that I started to volunteer for them. I'm even more impressed now that I'm more closely involved. I've met several homeless people with dogs and Karma has covered the cost of getting these dogs spayed/neutered and vaccinated. They give me supplies for dogs of low income families so they can keep their family pet. They do so much more than rescue dogs! Absolutely amazing organization. read more

Karma rescue is far and away one of the best, (if not thee best) dog and now cat rescue organizations in the city of Los Angeles !!! My wife and I rescued a beautiful red nose pit bull female from them 10yrs ago shortly after Karma was founded. They had rescued her from one of the toughest parts of this city where and inordinate amount of this breed is found abandoned abused and most often euthanized. My wife never thought she would have this breed of dog because of the terrible reputation they have acquired at the hands of horrible individuals. Due to Karma rescue and its founder Randi Levine who recognized the plight of these particular dogs (as well as all of the other types of dogs they rescue) and how they were being overlooked by so many people , we ended up having the best experience ever ! Not one hiccup with our beloved doggie with either animal or human in the 9yrs that we had her. Now my wife wouldn't have any other breed ! They taught us that consistent socialization with other animals is a key component with this breed and that putting in the time to train your pet (or having someone come in and help you consistantly if you absolutely don't have enough time) along with a healthy loving environment is an essential part of having or rescuing a dog. Now we found out that Karma has gone to the next level in their mission statement and has partnered with the California Department of Corrections to have inmates foster the rescues and train them so that they can be placed in permanent homes has trained and well-balanced animals! The program is called "Paws for Life" and has brought humanity and heart back to these inmates through the love of the rescued dogs and is an amazing example of why this organization has earned its reputation as one of the best!!! read more
