It's been so long since I Yelped, I forgot my log in. It's important I get this review out there, because this business (no matter how much they congratulate themselves they spay and neuter, it's a business) needs to be seen for what it is, which is a weird group of bullies who badger people to foster and adopt feral dogs they have not vetted in any way, then blame the people caring for these dogs for whatever the dogs do, rather than look at themselves and admit they know nothing about the dogs they place, or what they are really like. I have been thinking of adopting, so foster for other rescue orgs, but also I pay attention to them all. When my very sweet, animal loving neighbor was practically forced by someone named Kelly (who is not even on the website, so not sure if she's really associated with them or pretending to work there for some reason) to take a pit bull, Kelly did not mention oh by the way this pit bull might JUMP THROUGH THE WINDOW and bite a child below. You would think the org would have more of a sense of a dog before placing them, and be deeply horrified, apologetic and do everything they could to make things right? Nope. Instead they blame the person taking care of the dog, and are irate they (Love Leo) are now being sued by the child's parents. WHAT DID THEY EXPECT. THEIR DOG BIT A CHILD. Love Leo's POV is the child was not really hurt. Is that their real point? Did they do ANY duediligence on this dog around aggressive tendencies? Did they ask if kids live next door? Do they give a s-it, other than a lawsuit? No, no and no. The amount of aggravation and stress this caused my neighbor, the nicest person anyone ever met, is horrific. It makes me angry. You have someone trying to do a good thing and help a dog, the dog turns out to have issues the rescue didn't know about or care, then they attack the person feeding and housing this dog they placed there when it becomes violent with children. Unreal. I asked around at a dog park if this is normal for a rescue, people there said they've heard it before from Love Leo, only Love Leo. But also if you try and leave a bad review, the founder gets high and mighty outraged she's a savior of animals, spiteful and personally insulting. Maybe this is where Kelly learned how to talk down to people, so maybe she is employed there, just not high enough up to be on site. Plenty of ethical rescues out there, this unfortch aint one. If I could give ZERO stars I would!! I reached out out of desperation for my dog! I cant imagine ANYONE being "happy" to have to be in the position to surrender a family pet ! long story short, i have a 17 month old who started showing signs of autism which is why i can no longer care for my dog, i have to prioritize my son's care over my dog and it is a very difficult situation and predicament to be in in the first place....the response i received from this whack ass organization was not up to par for me being that ive been in the vet tech field for 8+ years and have worked with several ACTUALLY caring rescues! the response i received was dry and judgmental and snarky and i didn't appreciate it in a situation like this! as a Santa Monica local, im going to make sure I spread word to avoid this organization altogether! theyre not worth it! read more

Years ago I was looking for a dog, knowing I wanted to adopt I came across Love Leo & started following them. It became apparent that Pitt-bulls were being dumped, neglected & over flowing in shelters near and far, its was LLR posted many of them, so I reached out, not know much about the breed, only the scaremongering that has attached itself to the breed due to bad & irresponsible pet owners. Sasha spoke to me many times, answering all my questions which were plenty as I have a large & busy family and we entertain often, I wanted to be certain to make a very informed decision. After communicating off & on w/LLR, a litter came up that Sasha thought might be a good fit for me/us....it was my first of two dogs that we adopted through LLR, as well as fostering for them when needed. Thank you LoveLeoRescue (once again) for taking in an abandoned dog on the street (this time a dog that was dying of heatstroke). They rescued a dog covered in mange we found in Compton, another dog that was abandoned in South LA, and the list goes on and on. I have been rescuing dogs for years and LoveLeoRescue has always been one of my go-to rescues to take in neglected and abused dogs. They have done tremendous work on rehabbing and homing dogs. They have even unprovoked reached out to me to donate supplies and food to dogs in need (and never asked for anything in return). They are amazing and I'm grateful for all the dogs they have saved! read more

I adopted a dog based on their description that adult size would be 40-50 lbs. That was the max size I was willing to accept because I thought any size bigger I wouldn't be able to physically control. When I adopted the dog he was 8 weeks and weighed 16.6 lbs. After spending a few days with the dog, I thought he was overly large for his age so I googled his potential adult size. And on 3 different sources it said he would be at least 100 lbs!! I'm 105 lbs myself and as much as it made me sad to do so, I didn't think I could handle such a large dog myself. I could have waited to see how big he'd get, but what'd happen if he does get over 100 lbs? So in the best interest of the dog, I decided it was best for him to be with a family that was looking for a puppy that would eventually become a large dog. Trust me, it wasn't an easy decision. Even though he was only with us for 4 days, my family and I had gotten to love him! I tried to contact Loveleo and talk to Sasha over the phone but she was not available. I was only able to speak to the foster and let them know I was returning the dog because his description was waaaaay off. He would grow up to be double the size loveleo advertised. The day I was going to return the dog, foster asked if I wanted to meet another potential smaller dog. I declined at that time because I hadn't even returned my dog and I was still very sad about the whole situation. After I had returned the dog, I asked Sasha to keep $100 out of $550 I paid as donation and refund me 450. She wrote me back a nasty email saying i didn't even meet the other dog she suggested. How insensitive was that??? Am I not allowed a few days of grievance?? Well it turns out she only refunded me 100 and refuses to refund anything else. That shows me she only cares about $$$ and not finding the best family for these animals. Why in the first place lie about how large these dogs would get? If she falsely advertised, shouldnt she offer a refund? Instead she told me she wasn't a "department store" that I could easily get my money back. As a nonprofit org, loveleo's tax return can be easily found online. Do your homework before choosing the animal rescue for you. I'm sorry I didn't. In short, Sasha 1. Lied about dog's description of adult size 2. Didn't make a single effort to speak to me, even though I voiced my concerns about the dog's size 3. Was insensitive about my family returning the dog and offered a new dog right away 4. Did not refund my money even though this was all due to her overly inaccurate description of the dog. I am very very disappointed. read more

I have fostered and volunteered at multiple rescues in Southern California and can tell you that Love Leo is one of the ones doing it for the right reasons (the other is Frosted Faces, in Ramona). Imagine running a rescue, receiving hundreds of messages, emails and calls a day about dogs that will die if they do not get help urgently. Also, it's not "just" about adoption, it's about coordinating transport, expensive medical care, vaccines, spay and neuter programs, organizing volunteers, food and other supplies, etc. Running a rescue is a full time job that is incredibly taxing on your mental health and the situation in SoCal is the worst it's ever been, so everyone could use a little more kindness. After reading some negative reviews, all I can say that is that anyone working on the "intake side" of the rescue world would not be crucifying those dedicating their lives to protect these animals. For the record, I have rescued 1 dog from LL and have referred multiple people to them - everyone I know has had a successful experience. If you are looking to adopt a dog, please apply and be patient - I promise you it's worth the wait. :) read more

An amazing rescue! We adopted our German shepherd mix from love Leo in 2020 and this organization steps up BIG TIME for the dogs who need it most. The dog we adopted was left for dead after being hit by a car at 5 months old. Love Leo rescued him, took care of the complicated surgeries he needed to repair his leg, and when we adopted him part way through his recovery, they helped us with every step during his extended healing period. Today, our boy is the fastest, most athletic dog at the park and I know this is because Love Leo made sure he got the best treatment available despite his extensive injuries and the huge costs of his treatment. I can't say enough amazing things about Love Leo and Sasha The owner. If you are looking to adopt and have a rescue mindset I highly recommend you adopt through Love Leo. I cannot put into words exactly how grateful I am to have found Love Leo Rescue. I stumbled across a pittbull in severe distress, she seemed to have recently been nursing as her milk supply was built up and looked painful. Her skin was covered in scabs and she was missing large patches of fur from a raging skin infection covering her whole body, and seemingly searching desperately for her puppies on a busy Main Street even running into traffic repeatedly. She seemed to have been dumped after having her litter as we never were able to locate the pups, further adding to her distress. For a week I contacted countless rescues, all of which were unable to help because everyone is at capacity. No one had space or could provide me any real support. That is until I found Love Leo Rescue. Once I shared her circumstances they jumped into immediate action. They stepped up, provided financial support for her care, and allowed me to take her to their vet for further treatment. THEY ABSOLUTELY SAVED THIS DOGS LIFE. I was running out of time and was hours away from having to take her to the shelter due to circumstances out of my control. Love Leo Rescue did what no one else could, they went above and beyond to give this loving girl another chance at life. They, with the help of their supporters, got her the medical treatment she desperately needed and took her into their care while they found her forever home. To have seen her in such rough shape and now see photos of her being cared for by a loving family isn't something I thought I'd get to see until they intervened. Our experience with Love Leo has been nothing but wonderful. It ultimately didn't work out with a dog we were interested in adopting (entirely our fault), but we had such a wonderful experience with this rescue we felt the least we could do was to write a review. Application Process: We reached out to Love Leo regarding a dog that we were interested in. We received a timely response (people really need to chill out about this with shelters and recuses right now, theyre still receiving a ton of demand and alot of it is volunteer/small team ran!). Email with the team and texts from Sasha were prompt and informative. Very, very kind people. Communication: 5 star! Though we were leaving for a trip that coincided with us bringing in the dog for a trial, Love Leo worked closely with us to accommodate for our schedule. Again, emails, texts, calls with the team and Sasha were prompt and so friendly. There was even some paperwork that we needed clarifying and Sasha took the time to call make sure we were walked through and understood. Trial Period: They offer a one week trial period with the dog and even offered training, which is amazing! Sasha provided us with a doggie bag for the week and also let us know she would be available for questions. Felt great to know we had the support. Overall: Again, even though we were not the perfect fit for this pup (again, 100% our fault), we were very impressed with the amount of care Sasha and her team put into the intake of each dog as well as making sure each family is set up for success. We recently fostered with another small rescue and the experience was quite traumatizing, so having the support of Love Leo as we went through an application and brief trial gave us some much needed confidence. I will continue to recommend them to friends who are looking for pups to rescue. read more

It's is very interesting that after our horrific experience with Love Leo that their minions come out to offset the negative review. One of which is written by the person who decided, after we visited this lovely dog we had our hopes set on adopting, that they would keep the dog for themselves. I'm sure that they will make the excuse of "finding the right home" but in reality they knew in their heart that they never intended to let them go. We asked, "has there been any interest in [this dog]"? Answer was an immediate short cold "yes". Little did we know that the interested party was the person answering the question. In addition, we were scoffed upon by suggesting that this precious puppy is a part shar pei, amongst other breeds. You may not agree however, to belittle us at the mere suggestion,...please. For the record, I do believe that this sweet dog is a mix of shar pei, English Bulldog, and others. Aside from the cold visit with the foster, our experience with Love Leo Rescue is upsetting. After we happily provided all the information that was requested, we did not hear the devastating news until after we sent payment. The news came in an email along with the statement "thanks for understanding". We never said that we understood and we still don't. Whoever is at the Love Leo end of the email wouldn't even dignify us with a phone conversation. It's a sad state that we live in today where the "good people" saving the animals cannot have a difficult human conversation. Yes we are upset. Devastated in fact but, Help us "understand". We are grieving the loss of hope that this lovely dog would become a part of our family. This hope was shepherded by Love Leo Rescue. Up until the visit, they were is regular communication with our emails and encouraged our adoption. They even had the foster parent honor our request to send us a video of this amazing fur-baby. We were so encouraged that we shared the video with our seven year old boy who fell in love with the possibility of raising this dog. Now we have nothing to share but grief. After a six month search for a rescue, my father and I were lucky enough to be introduced to Love Leo! From the moment we began the process, we could tell that this was a much different, much more pleasant experience than we had been having with other rescues. We found our beautiful Mo on their Instagram at first, and scheduled an appointment to meet with the foster. The COVID protocols were quite important for us, and they made it all very safe and easy. Mo was the THIRTEENTH dog they had fostered for Love Leo, so it gave us total confidence in the foster's assessment of Mo, helped us to feel very comfortable with everything. And since it had been almost 15 years since we last rescued a dog, Sasha was kind enough to spend time on the phone with me to answer all of my questions/new dog owner concerns, giving me that last little bit of confidence to welcome Mo into our home. I am a huge fan of Sasha and the team over at LoveLeoRescue! I adopted my adorable puppy, Delilah, q at from this org almost 2 years ago and can't thank them enough for all of the amazing work they do! I've kept in contact with her foster and other adopters from my girls litter - such an awesome network of people! During Covid, I found myself working from home and having extra time on my hands so decided to reach out to LLR and offer foster support. In the last year, I've been blessed to have helped adopt out 11 amazing dogs (including adopting one myself). Horrible . Just found out these people lie about the previous owners situation in order to get the dog a shelter. The things they need to do In order for them to get a dog a home isn't professional at all. They erased all the messages they had with the owner of a dog because they stated that the story they put up was only for a boost of help to get the dog adopted sooner making the previous owner sound like a horrible person when it was nothing like that . Kendal is SO helpful, very sweet and answered any and all questions I had so promptly and with so much kindness! I haven't met Sasha personally, but she's been a big help in the fostering process as well! They're such a kind, caring facility, i have so much love for them! I fostered my doggy for about 6 weeks and was always very clear on all steps of the fostering process. Anytime I had a health question about Butterscotch, Kendal was right there to help me! LLR goes above and beyond for every dog in their care and takes on some extremely challenging medical cases and provides them with the best medical care around. We have been fostering for Love Leo Rescue for over 6 years and can not say enough about the selfless dedication this rescue and its founder Sasha display toward rescuing and providing safe homes for dogs in need. I have volunteered for the county and many rescues over the 13+ years I've been involved in the endeavour of animal rescue. I have never volunteered with a harder working organization. Love Leo does an incredible amount of work, especially since they only have 1 full time employee! The amount of dogs that are rescued, rehabilitated, rehomed, spayed and neutered is amazing. And it is not only the dogs they are generous with. I have seen them go above and beyond time and again to help people-- whether it is adopters, owners trying to keep their dogs, community members who are unable to afford to spay/neuter their animals, volunteers, or houseless animal owners who needs a helping hand.
