I come to this location as it is the closest to where I live. Prices are so/so depending on what you are buying. Check out lines usually move pretty fast. They have a "fresh" meat case (no pre-packaged) where I've gotten some pretty good meats from, but also some pretty bad ones. I feel it's hit and miss. I've gotten spoiled bone in country ribs twice from here. I've also seen very discolored meat (sausages and green pork). So be careful of what you buy. I did try the Philadelphia cheesesteak chicken sausage and it was pretty tasty. Keep in mind that on Tuesdays you don't have to buy the required amount of an item to get it at the discounted price. For instance, to get ground beef at $2.99/lb. you have to buy 10 lbs, but on Tuesdays you can buy any amount for the same low price. Same with soda prices, etc. read more

I really like Karns. While my shopping experience is somewhat limited, I really like their seafood section. I've found their clams to be a great deal on several occasions. I love clams. Their store layout is logical and even as an outsider I can quickly find what I'm looking for. Their produce section is expansive and also well organized with lots of fresh goodies. Prices, especially on prepared food and boxed goods leave something to be desired, but they are still much preferable to a wegmans, weis, etc. especially for things like produce, meat, and seafood which are the three areas I prioritize. I have shopped there for many years now and lately it seems the quality and freshness has gone down hill, and also some of the personal leave little to be desired, some show little respect. I had to return an item because of POOR bagging allowing the item to get messed-up taking it home and it was also NOT very fresh. Upon returning it I never even got an "I am sorry for you inconvenience, not to mention the gas used to go back there again" Mr Karns should know how this store is being run by Mountain Rd & Rt-22!!!!!!!! read more

Pros = a very wide selection of freshly cut karns ham, pork, turkey, beef and chicken at very reasonable prices. they also stock lots of meat products from other companies such as ballpark, nittany, gwaltney, kessler, kunzler, oscar meyer, etc. open sun - sat 7am to 10 pm. bread, produce, sweets, deli, cereals, canned goods, gatorade, fresh coffee, this place has it all. they often team up with the boyscouts / girlscouts / RIVER 97.3 for events. sometimes they even have coupons in the clipper magazine, paxton herald or the patriot news, we actually just used one from the Entertainment book for 5 dollars off a 40 dollar purchase. my favorite item is the tiny little sweet bologna and american cheese sandwiches they sell for only .99 cents. also who can forget the amish macaroni salad. Cons = their prices on medicine and houshold products are more expensive than giant or weis. and its rarely goes on sale. also the customer service dept. can get overwhelmed by old ladies playing lottery tickets and asking what the numbers are. its kind of annoying when all i want to do is buy stamps or something. that and the mens bathroom is all graffittied up and doesnt have a door handle. had a REDBOX inside, though as of 2015 it was removed. read more

Hate to give it a 2 but that's about what it is.Over the years that I ' ve shopped here I've had to bring back gallon jugs of milk or Ice tea because they leaked or the cap ring was off and sticky. Recently I purchased 5 pounds of country style spare ribs took them home and almost gagged when I went to bag them up for the freezer so I took them back and proceeded to the meat dept. I have noticed a big turnover in this department and low and behold there was a hiring sign on the counter.Except for my regulars theres always someone new behind the counter. Needless to say, i got fresh ribs before leaving the store. I use to work in this store and saw Scott Karns daily.Don't know what's happening there maybe they bit off more than they can chew.At least Giant offers double your money when bringing something back for a retund.Nough said. read more

Holiday weekend and they only had two cashiers. Waited in line 45 minutes. When I got home I called the manager, and he tried to tell me that I did not wait in line 45 minutes! I also got organic strawberries at $4.99 a quart should have checked them more closely as the bottom ones were all moldy. I rather shop Karma vs Giant, but I will be visiting Giant more often. read more

This review is for the Karns in Lemoyne Pa next to the West Shore Farmers Market. My now husband and I wanted a super simple yet eloquent cake for our mini wedding celebration. We ordered a cake for 20 people (we wanted leftovers) and asked for a buttercream iced cake and for it to be a marble cake. We arrived around 8:40 and the cake was not finished. We were disappointed but didn't mind as we realized we were early. We also realized that we had until 10:40 before we needed to be ready and still had 2 hours. We were basically ready at that point anyway. When we arrived and asked for the cake the lady we spoke to apologized and said that it would be ready soon. She then came back with a barcode for two lady finger cakes totaling $11.99 and said to use this to check out. Cakes at Karns start at $18.99 for the custom cake we wanted. When we got the cake I could not stop smiling. It was beautiful! I was thrilled! Once married we shoved cake in each others faces, shared some with family, and have lots of leftovers (not sure if thats good or bad haha). We are having a friends gathering in September and have been struggling with where to buy our next cake. Struggle no more. We will be ordering our cake at Karns. Thank you so much for making our special day just that much more special. I would also like to review the rest of the store. I am from Western Pa and moved to Eastern Pa 2 years ago almost and never heard of Karns. I love the prices. I also love that they carry Summer Salads and Brocoslaw. Those are my favorite. The meat selection also looks wonderful and my husband and I purchased two USDA Choice Steaks we look forward to cooking and eating later this week. The best part about the Karns we visit is every Saturday when we are in town my husband always passes by Karns on our way to the West Shore Farmers Market. We will never just pass by anymore and plan to stop frequently on our way by and even make this a regular shopping trip for when we need groceries. My son and I headed out to Karns tonight to stock up on some fresh produce. They have a variety of fresh fruit and veggies, however not as good of a selection of organic food as Giant has. We've been shopping here for years so we knew our way around. I appreciate the fresh meat department which is always packed with people. They also have great weekly meat specials in their circular. The cashiers are always very helpful. All in all a good experience. I would have been happier with more cashiers as we waited in line for what seemed like forever to check out. read more

Karns is a great local grocery store in the area that is my go to for two things, Meat and Bakery. They have some of the best meat sales and the more you buy the better the price. For example today I purchased a whole New York Strip cut to order for $5.29/lb. That gave me 14 steaks for about $50. If I would have just purchased the 6 I wanted for dinner tonight it would have been $10.99/lb and almost the same price. The quality of the steak is wonderful. My husband said it was as tender as filet. Very consistent as we get steaks there all of the time. On to the bakery. Their Italian bread loaves are addicting. I don't know what they put in that stuff but it is just euphoric. Other grocery store bread does not hold a candle to Karns' loaf. The pies are also homemade and wonderful as are the whoopie pies. They have generally low prices. They run sales like other grocery stores but you don't have to have a card to get them. You do have to get a card to earn points for gift cards and it adds up quick! I enjoy checking my account every so often to find I have enough for a gift card that can be redeemed for Karns or for other retailers. Overall I go to Karns at least once a week to get my beef, bakery, and other odds and ends but the selection is smaller than other stores so I still have to finish my shopping elsewhere. For example I needed a toothbrush for my daughter and they had a very poor selection of stuff like that. And they don't really have a cosmetic section which is fine but one day I was like "Oooh I could use a new nail polish color..." Nope. Had to go to CVS. read more

Absolute best local store for meats (outside of the farmer's market). Prices are great and the quality is always ten times better than Giant. Plus, you just can't beat the experience of a full-service deli....to be able to talk to a real person and get exactly the quantity and cut you want is priceless. Produce is touch and go...and I agree that a bigger organic selection would be nice. But overall, the selection and prices are comparable to Giant's as well. read more

It has been said that one should never grocery shopping while hungry...Its true here at Karns! Once you get by all the store employees smoking {on the time clock}at the front entrance and air yourself out...you will find an excellent salad bar,great donuts and other good food. That was the good part. I have, in the past purchased slimy cold cuts from the deli dept.[They cut the meat WAY ahead]...and reported them to the Health dept. They still do this. Also the bakery has a history too, they were caught once storing dirty aprons in the walk-in cooler! Too top it off, and long time cashier told me once to go to another check-out, so she could continue her conversation! For comic relief, just sit in the parking lot for a minute....you will soon realize that lining the parking spaces with stripes was a waste of time... as all the seniors drive all over in a dangerous diagonal pattern. Karns is easy for me to get to. I live in Linglestown and it is a straight shot. I am always pleased with the meat selection and there is always plenty of clerks to handle your requests. You can not beat the pork and chicken specials. There is also a great selection in the deli department and the luncheon meat specials are outstanding. I do think however some of the items outside their meat selection, tend to be higher than the chain stores. It is clean, the clerks are friendly and I think I get a good deal for my money. The on-line grocery list builder is very useful and if I follow it, keeps me from coming home with a lot of extras. read more
