Crabs are usually good, but sometimes disappointing in their size. My go to place when I can't go one more day without a crab or six.

We have a crab picking feast once or twice a year, and we always get our crabs from Harbor House. My wife is from Southern Maryland, so she knows her way around cracking a crab, and we are never disappointed. They are also very good about honoring specials and deals, and a couple of times I felt they went above and beyond to apply a deal when it seemed like maybe our order didn't qualify. First off, you are paying for the convenience of not having to drive to York or Baltimore. The prices are incredibly steep. I understand that this year was horrible for the crab industry. From Chesapeake to the lost Alaskan snow crabs. On my budget, it's worth my time to make the trip. I do however absolutely love their "Hot" crab seasoning! It's great on everything from corn on the cob, fish, shrimp, potatoes. The jumbo lump crab cakes were good, expensive, but nothing spectacular. Guy y I make better tasting cakes myself with jumbo, special and claw. If you've got the cash burning a hole in your pocket, this place is fantastic. This is a take-out only establishment, but they do sell all of the necessary crab consumption paraphernalia. read more

In the middle of a pandemic and a trip to Baltimore is not an option? Harbour House Crabs is the best substitute in the area. Their prices are a bit high, but if you are really craving steamed blue crabs and the experience of spending hours picking tiny bites of crab meat out of spicy shells, this is your Go to. At various times I have been able to find Harbour House on some of the delivery sites I subscribe to, but for me, buying a 1/2 bushel of steamed crabs to make a mess in my dining room is not an impulse purchase that I suddenly choose for dinner. Call ahead and find out what the prices are, and schedule your order. I like to get them steamed in house and take them home hot. (A Styrofoam cooler works well for this. Price varies by the size of the crab, and generally I go with large male (aka Jimmy) crabs. Don't forget the mallets! read more

I did an online order with HHCH, and had a few concerns regarding my order. I called as well as emailed them, and their early response and resolution to my concern's exceeded my expectations. When my crabs arrived they were absolutely delicious, and heavy. I'm from MD and moved further down south, As I understand it now Harbor House is in PA. Excellent phone service. Was able to place order and pick up at the designated time. Usually at crab houses they'll cook ahead of time and the crabs would be sitting for ten minutes. Not enough crab meat in the crabs. We got the super size and there just wasn't enough of the meat in them. Ended up tossing half a dozen at least because they weren't worth the time and effort. Seems online crab ordering is always disappointing when compared to being in Maryland sitting down eating at a crab restaurant. It satisfied the craving, that's it. I discovered this place this weekend after craving crabs all day long. Original plan was to drive down to Baltimore tomorrow to satisfy this crab craving, then I started searching for steamed crabs online and found Harbour House crabs. I am surprised there aren't more reviews of this place. The shop is small and not fancy but it's no nonsense and that's what I like about it. There's a small bench to sit on while you wait and a restroom for the convenience of patrons. They were out of the Jumbo crabs when we got there on a Saturday evening two hours before they closed for the day, but offered us the large instead. We purchased a dozen large crabs- take out with traditional seasoning. The service was quick, we had a 10 minute wait. The crabs were meaty and everything I wished for. Craving is now in check and has been satisfied. I couldn't wait to recommend this place to everyone, thus the review. I am kicking myself for having only found this place now, especially since I've been living around here a while. I highly recommend this to any crab lover. Their Advertising says "We hand make every crab cake with our best jumbo lump crab meat with no filler. We add just enough bread crumbs to keep the crab meat together. " This is untrue. Their crab cakes consist of a ball of six or eight lumps of nice crab backfin stuck onto a round mass of grey colored scrap filler from legs. read more

I received my third order from Harbour House and once again, EVERYTHING is very well packed, got here the next day and COLD! Perfect shipment once again. I got 1 lb each of Jumbo lump, Backfin and Claw meat, along with 4 JUMBO softshell crabs and the new i Love Crabs Cookbook! I've only eaten the jumbo lump so far and I used it for a recipe from the i Love Crabs cookbook, 'Blue Crab and Corn Salsa'. The recipe was very easy to follow, simple and absolutely delicious!! It only called for 1/2 lb of jumbo lump crab meat so my daughter and I enjoyed eating the remaining 8 oz by itself and savored the naturally sweet crab meat. The lumps were as advertised, JUMBO and delicious! Once again, this is my third order I've received and each time I could not have been happier! The crab legs I ordered were HORRIBLE...hardly no meat and not tasty. I have eaten a lot of crab legs and so I know exactly how they should taste. They felt heavy when I took them out of the cooler because the legs were still frozen. I steamed two clusters right away, melted some butter and snapped open a leg. My excitement ended quickly. At that point I knew i had been duped! As a matter of fact, the remaining clusters will be thrown in the trash. Harbour House Crabs ought to be ashamed of themselves for selling garbage for a premium price. They shouldn't sell what I received even for a lower price. I recently went to Maryland and bought crab legs from Wegman's grocery store. They were SUPERB...NO KIDDING!! The following is the the false advertisement posted on their website: ***For a limited time, we're exclusively offering Premium Bairdi Snow Crab Leg Clusters. Unlike anything you will find at your local stores, they are full of sweet meat and recognized by crab lovers around the world as the best crab available on the market.*** Trust me; you would be better off going to your local grocery store to purchase your crab legs. For the price and fees I paid, I could have bought a ticket back to Maryland and enjoy some more AWESOME crab legs from Wegman's. By the way the best thing about the order was the packaging. I had high hopes for Harbour House Crabs. When I received my order, I was disappointment. The packaging was horrible and the seafood looked as if it was dropped on the floor. For the prices and fees I paid, you would think they would take better care of their seafood and packaging. Very disappointed! I got large crabs last week and they were cold! I ordered a dozen of Jumbo crabs today and they were not all Jumbos, and they were reheats! Horrible, and not worth $109.00 with tax! Never again I feel I was ripped off and they should have never been reheated, I told them I wanted them to cook them when I get there so I wouldn't get cold crabs like the time before, but I wasn't expecting to get reheated crabs!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I used to drive 4 hrs to the Wharf in D.C to get my crabs. Not anymore, Harbour House it is instead. I had my crabs, medium females, shipped to Brooklyn NY. Ordered on Friday 2pm paid the overnight ship fee well worth it. They were delivered 2pm Saturday. Taste like they were just caught, steamed with Obrycki seasoning can taste it on the inside of the crab.. Packed well, re-useable Ice packs on the outside of the box, free mallets.. I miss their crabs. I ordered a bushel medium crabs from them Nov. 2013 for my bf's birthday and they were amazing. The case came in right on time, and all the crabs were neatly stacked, seasoned and steamed. I got the heavy-seasoned ones; they were quite spicy but super tasty. I took the experience for granted until I ordered from another company last week. I switched company because they had crabs on sale (Chesapeak Crab Connection Co. - DO NOT ORDER from this company, seriously!) The crabs from Chesapeak Co. was packed like they were throwing trash away, and it's extremely small. AND they smelled aweful when we opened the box! All I wanted to say is, Harbour House Crabs are a little on the expensive side, but they are absorlutely worth every penny. Crabs are expensive when you ordered them online but if you are willing to spend the money already, you might as well put in a couple more bucks and get the good stuff. Very happy to have discovered this place so far up north of Baltimore. I picked up a doz of what they call the heavyweights and was given several choices of how I wanted them seasoned I'm a lover of spicy and chose the heavy option I was not disappointed they lived up to the term spicy better than most. I called ahead with my ETA and when I walked they were ready to go. I would suggest this place to my closest of friends with no reservation and even though they are about a 45 min ride for me I plan to go back several more times before the season is over. Good "No Frills" crab house. Good Bay Seasoning mix. Decent prices. Very tasty crabs. Staff is polite and helpful. It may not look like much from the outside, but some of the best crabs come from a shack. I haven't tried a crab house in Harrisburg that was even close to as good. I grew up in Maryland, where I've eaten thousands of crabs and also worked for a waterman, running crab traps in the summer and gill nets in the winter. So I know a few things about crabs. Outstanding experience ordering crabs online! I LOVE crabs, but we live in East Tennessee, so it's not something I'm able to get on a regular basis. I have known for a while now that several places offer fresh steamed crabs shipped to your door, but I was also a bit skeptical of the whole process. My two biggest concerns were the cost and whether or not they would still taste as good after being shipped. Well, for my birthday, I decided to give it a go, and after looking at six or seven different sites and comparing the prices, I decided on Harbour House. I ordered a half bushel of their "medium" crabs with the traditional seasoning, and the price, INCLUDING shipping came out to $147.86. That was significantly less than all of the other places I looked at, which ranged from about $190-215 for an identical order. Fast forward to the day the crabs arrived, and all went well. I got them a day before we planned to eat them, and they were nicely packaged and quite cold. I opened the cooler and threw some extra ice in, which kept frozen overnight. I followed the re-steaming instructions the next day and we all sat down to the table and dug in. My second concern amounted to nothing, because the crabs were every bit as good as I've had in the past in Maryland. The seasoning was perfect, and the sizing was accurate and consistent. I won't hesitate to re-order from Harbour House, and the pricing and quality is no longer a concern. 10/10 experience. *My only complaint is that we could have used more mallets. Two were included in the box, and we were fine with sharing, but four would have been ideal. read more

LOVE!!!! I ordered a 1/2 bushel of jimmy crabs on Thursday, and they were delivered Saturday! They were perfectly packed with frozen packs in a nice styrofoam cooler. And they were perfect. The crabs were full, no duds and seasoned just right. We aren't headed to the beach till fall, but we got a pick-me-up tonight! I am a New Yorker born and raised in the Bronx with an insatiable appetite for blue crabs having spent time in Charleston, SC, MD and DE. I moved to Wisconsin for work a few months ago and ordered blue crabs from here to satisfy my cravings. I ordered a half a bushel of steamed crabs from here after being disappointed by another crab mail order company a few days before. The crabs came packed well in a box and was a bit disappointed in how light they were at first look. I re-steamed them the same day and enjoyed 7 crabs in one sitting. That was all I could get through because these crabs were PACKED with meat. They were so good that I wanted to force myself to eat more but waited until the next day since I was so stuffed. I truly enjoyed my half bushel for 4 days straight all by myself (with the exception of giving my husband who hates cracking crabs a little meat) and STILL wanted more.
