I could write a lengthy review concerning my experience at Karp Automotive Service, but I think short and sweet serves us all best. Do not use them for service. I brought my car in for a simple oil change and inspection, and they turned the request into a $1,600 bill by claiming I voided the warranty and I needed a new oil pan. When I informed the service manager that as a 20 year loyal customer, I am disgusted by their behavior and I would be giving them a bad review, she told me to take my car and leave. She also said that Karp will no longer be servicing my vehicles. She told me my car had been rendered undrivable by them, and I needed to call a tow truck. I did and brought it to an honest mechanic who serviced the vehicle for $157 not $1600. I guess they think it's easy to scam an elderly woman out of $1,600 but the charges were so inflated that they had to be questioned. Short and sweet...don't use Karp Automotive to service your vehicles and if they can't service them why would you buy from them to begin with? read more

Let me start by saying the salesperson was solid. Helpful, communicative, no issues there. This review is entirely about Karp Volvo's quality standards -- or complete lack thereof. I wanted a specific build with specific features. When I arrived to take delivery, the car that was supposed to be new looked like it had been through a rough winter as a loaner. Scuffs and microscratches all over the exterior. Moderate paint chips and scratches. The windshield had dark scratch marks -- the kind you see from ice and snow scrapers. The metal trim on the steering wheel had deep dents. Tire pressure? Low. Nobody checked. The interior was somehow worse. Dirt marks on the seats. The trunk storage area had dirt and dried mud drips all over it. Nothing had been cleaned or prepped for delivery. They told me a pre-delivery inspection had been completed, turns out that was back in September. When I asked them to cover detailing or scratch repair, they offered to knock $100 off the price. One hundred dollars. On a new car that needed paint correction and a full detail. Then came the pièce de résistance: their "on-site detailing." Two guys in dirty clothes, working out of the underground garage with abrasive brushes and cheap wash products. No professional equipment. No care taken to protect the interior, the seats and floor mats weren't covered, so every time they leaned in, their dirty clothes and hands were just adding to the problem. This place cuts costs on everything. There is no quality control, no pride in the product being handed to customers. I came here only because they had the one configuration I wanted. I was warned before I visited this Volvo dealership. Everyone told me they were shady and they were right. The first thing is when the Number's person did my contract. He overcharged me for $1000 like he thought I couldn't read or I wasn't gonna go home and read over my contract. I bought it to his attention in the next day. He took it off, apologize and gave me the dent package to quiet me. I purchased the tire plan package I had three tires replaced. Two tires was completely dry rotted, and when the young lady who was checking me out, told me that my tires were dry rotted. I informed her that their service department put these replacement tires on my car. then she told me that my tire plan was expired as well as my service plan and again when I came home and checked it out, she told a bold face lie. So the moral to this story is although I still have an entire plan that is valid and a service plan that is valid. Also, I will not give them one penny of my money to service my vehicle when I tell you to go to a reputable Volvo dealership somewhere else, listen to me. Perhaps they don't treat all of their buyers the same way but I would never recommend anyone to go anywhere where they're not gonna be treated fairly and feel like they're being scammed or someone got over on them. Our 2019 Volvo XC60 would not engage the parking brake, so we scheduled a service call at Karp Volvo. It turns out that the problem was with an inherent defect in software that prevented the battery in the parking brake from charging. I was shocked that Volvo would not back defects that they had created, and I was charged $367 for a software update I wouldn't need if the software wasn't defective. Volvo's COO on Blomberg news said that dealers charge for software updates that Volvo provides for free, and that he wished they wouldn't do that. Avoid Volvo. Avoid Karp Volvo. read more

Disappointed. If this was any other category of business, the business practices they conduct would be considered misleading, unethical, corrupt and most likely illegal. It's unfortunate it's across the whole auto industry and shame on me for thinking we found a winner. We agreed upon a sales prices based on their marketing program of $2k rebate for financing with Cap One. With "exceptional" credit in 800's, what concern would I have not to qualify for this? Well, come to closing time and guess what... the $2k is not applicable and Cap One rejected my loan application. After I clarified my income/debt ratios and requested a resubmittal of the application, the response was "I have to wait five days" heres a better deal from Volvo which will save you on the interest. Oh so nice of them, but there's no more $2k off the sales prices. The worker's here seem to be suffering from either low worker's morale, laziness, or both. There was extremely poor customer service. Now, let me acknowledge that perhaps they were low on inventory, but the appropriate behavior is to greet customers and COMMUNICATE that. I visited with my spouse and toddler. We were completely ignored. The store was also empty and no customer's were in the store, but there were at least 4 Volvo staff who did not appear to be doing anything at all. In fact, at least two people noticed us, tried to avoid making eye contact, and disappeared. Ridiculous. In addition, we sat in two vehicles to get a sense of space. One of the vehicles required a fob to check out the features. But, again. We were ignored. So, we left and took our money elsewhere. Hopefully you will too. read more

I bought a car and explained how we wanted the car ASAP. It was a Sunday and they said they can not give us the car because state/local government was closed. No big deal. I then wire $20,000 to them on Monday for a Wednesday delivery. Almost at the dealership, they call "the car needs a software update, we won't have it ready". I call Thursday to confirm we can get the car Friday. "We don't know when your car will be ready". Remember they have $20,000 of my money. Almost as week later, no car. Manager calls me and said he was on vacation. ??? Was he the one upgrading the software? I asked to get my money back. "You are right, we didn't earn your business". I got a car the same day elsewhere. Drove off the lot in the car. Total process 3 hours. Not 5 days with no end in sight. Most people were nice and helpful. Just no urgency to actually sell a car. We have had nothing but problems since our fantastic PURCHASE experience. We had a vibration at highway speed on our XC40 B5 with 20 inch wheels. Do yourself a favor a google this issue pre-purchase and read the pages of people stating this problem. There is no fix. We have spent months dealing with Karp and they have used bait and switch tactics and wasted our time. No one should have to buy a 50k car that vibrates on the highway. This is OUR experience, of course. But I have no doubt that it will be yours buying this car from this dealer. Simply read their service reviews. I wish we had. My family bought be a car two years ago from here, a 2014 Mazda CX-5 from a salesman named David. My family has bought a couple cars from here. When they bought the car they gave us three keys. Two of the three keys never worked and living in WV I could not adtrss the issue. I went in today to have the broken keys reprogrammed or fixed and they said they cannot do it there and will not cover the fix. They had no options to fix it other then tow your car to Mazda dealership. I'm very disappointed with this blatant mistake and actually don't care. That was a waste of time! Just returned from a failed attempt at picking up a new vehicle. We closed a deal with the salesperson one week ago, left a deposit and scheduled 2-25-23 as the date I would take possession of the new Volvo. Upon arrival at the dealership, the salesperson changed the terms of the deal and stated it was structured differently than discussed and negotiated with us. None of the prior emails and conversations ever disclosed this attempt at new terms. The manager met us today for the first time and inferred we should have assumed the deal was structured differently than any discussion we ever had. He would not honor the agreed upon commitment. They were obligated to be completely explicit about the changes in terms but unfortunately failed. No apology was offered as no remorse was evident. This process at Karp Volvo was purposely misleading and a complete waste of time. After this experience Karp Volvo, it does not merit even one of the five stars. Apparently this was a question that our friend over here either hasn't heard or didn't want to hear and this is when things got uncomfortable when he started to raise his voice, changed to a condescending tone and started being outright rude. First off - no one actually wanted to negotiate since I wasn't ready to buy one yet. All I was doing as part of my research was getting an idea of the pricing. Why are you asking me what you can do for me to keep me here? Second - no one was sure why this guy came out of his office? Does he really think he is some big shot who had to step out of the office and make me feel important? Lastly and MOST importantly - if you really think my question is incorrect, inappropriate or misguided - why on earth would you be condescending about it? What good could possible come from raising your voice and trying to make me look stupid? When has that ever worked? To keep this short and sweet......I brought my S60 Volvo in for its' 3rd year final maintenance which is covered under the warranty. After inspection, I was advised I needed 3 new tires, 2 of which would not pass inspection and the cost was approximately $725.00. I was also told that my S60 Volvo needed new rear brake pads costing approximately $489.00 (including taxes). It would have cost me $1,214.09. I shopped around and could have gotten the same 3 tires for $600 and the brakes Pads replaced for $150. I was also advised by another mechanic who told me only / tires had to be replaced. As for the rear brake pads.... why throw away a glass of milk when there is still 1/4 left in the glass? The only reason I'm giving it a 2 star instead of a one is that the, Sean, was very professional and polite. read more

Everyone's nigh mare, the check engine light comes on. Well my check engine light came on. I took the car to my very honest mechanic at Wonderama in Valley Stream, they hooked my Volvo xc60 2012 to a scanner. The there were too many codes that came up and Ed at Wonderama said I would have to take the car to the dealership. To say the least, I had heart palpitation thinking about the expense. Made an appointment with Karp Volvo for 8:30 am. I entered the service area to register for my appointment. They took the car in and 4 hours later the vehicle was repaired. I need to mention how professional they all were, and how they were very attentive to my needs. I waited outside all 4 hours because I am compromised and didn't want to be exposed to the other people waiting in the waiting area, the gentleman working outside doing the intake offered me water several times during my wait. He was so understanding to my situation. The repair made to my vehicle was a little expensive, but well worth it knowing my vehicle was in good hands. I want to thank Karp Volvo service area for the dedication and professionalism. You guys are the best. read more

My worse experience ever in the 20+ years I have been leasing vehicles has been with Volvo, and Karp Volvo as a dealer. Had many problems with the XC90 and XC60 from computer problems, electrical problems, battery problems, issues with tires (tires had a wobbly sound coming from them that they could not resolve. Even on lease return they hammered me over the head with all kinds of charges and would not even have a reasonable discussion about reducing it like every other brand has always done for me in the past. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a vehicle since but the car is unreliable and customer service. Volvo was a HUGE disappointment for me, I feel like I was taken advantage of. I dropped my vehicle off at Karp Volvo to turn it in and I took photos of the vehicle before returning it and had the normal wear and tear stuff that I always had with any other lease and then Volvo sent me an inspection report at a later date by certified letter in the mail with damages to the vehicle that I did not see when I left the car in their possession. They held me hostage to pay for the damages or they would put it on my credit. I asked if I could provide proof with the photos and they said I could only go a print out physical photos and mail them in as they did not have a simple way to upload them online. This would of course not be possible for me to get them to them in time for this charge to go on my credit so I paid the exorbitant fee just so it would not negatively impact my credit. read more

They play games here. After dragging their feet with our paperwork and keeping us there for the entire day (10am to close), the finance manager offered us a wheel/tire protection insurance, which we initially declined, for "free" because we waited the entire day. Very nice of them we thought, then when we were presented the finance agreement to sign, this wheel protection insurance is listed there. Upon questioning they insisted that the insurance is free and they had to write it on the finance agreement as a formality. It wasn't until I calculated everything in front of them when they agreed to remove it, which reduced the monthly payment. We were then told we can't get this "free" wheel insurance anymore. As a tip, do not focus all your attention on the monthly payment. The number they told us in the beginning already included this extra wheel insurance, and there was no way for us to calculate that number back to the price of the car without seeing the actual finance agreement. This is the 3rd car my family bought from Karp, and what could of been an another okay car buying experience (sales guy actually ordered us lunch) turned out to be them wearing us down throughout the day and trying to pull a fast one in the very end. Won't be back for 4th. 2 stars for the sales guy, he was actually nice. read more

I called and made a appt with a friendly lady, was greeted by 3 LOVELY guys, including 2 mechanics, I was in and out dropping my car in minutes and was given a ride to the local train as I had no ride back. They called me in 2 hours, with reasonable repairs and reasonable guaranteed fixes and prices. The showroom and office is clean, friendly, very comfortable waiting area and stocked with friendly knowledgable staff of all sorts, from the mechanics to the office staff it was a excellent experience and worth my 45 minute drive from Brooklyn! I found the car that I wanted and signed the Agreement and gave my deposit on Monday, October 1, 2018, with the goal of picking it up on Friday, October 5. They were assisting with financing. I made repeated attempts to contact both the Salesperson and the Manager on the Thursday before and did not hear from them. The Manager calls me late on Friday morning and says that the car was sold to someone else! What?!? So, they breached the contact that I signed just four days before.
