I'd say maybe watch your back? Behind the five-star façade seem to be folks who talk trash about clients, and an owner who seems ok with it. I will spare you all of the bizarre details except that I was a 25-year SF client who'd just switched to this agent when an employee accidentally sent me an in-house email she'd written about me to someone else. It was incoherent, full of profanity and impatience about me for reasons that are still totally mysterious. It seemed to be putting her out that I wanted to buy a policy? Lots of weirdness ensued until I finally got a message from Karrie Dubose, and her response was terse and cold, no apology, then totally ignored my question about the policy itself. Wouldn't get my insurance through them. I purchased renter's insurance when I moved to Seattle, as well as Auto and an Umbrella policy. Unfortunately, the unit above me had a leak that ruined my ceiling and neither the HOA, building management, or property management company I rent through were willing to help. That's fine, I have renter's insurance, for that, right? Wrong. When I called, Karrie said that she could start a claimed but recommended not doing so because they'd drop my coverage due to me being considered "high risk." For something I had no control over. Oh, and she also said that I'd likely have insurability issues in the future. Great. Again, for something I have no control over. I decided to file a claim anyway because what choice did I really have. The adjuster(s) I spoke with over the course of the last week were varying degrees of helpful, but my biggest issue is the fact that State Farm will only cover 3ish weeks of hotel stay, even though almost 1/3 of my ceiling is being demolished, dried out, and redone. I have no control over the contractors the building management company is hiring, no control over the timeline, and yet State Farm has said if it takes too long, they'll force me to cover it myself. State Farm honestly sucks - wtf is the point of purchasing insurance if you feel like you can't even use it or get compassionate coverage. Karrie's agency is super helpful when you're trying to give them your money, but as soon as you need anything, they have no customer service. I'll be taking all of my policies elsewhere as soon as this claim is completed. read more

The lease for my new work studio space contained a big, gnarly, inscrutable insurance requirement. It had all these WORDS, and NUMBERS, and other things in it. Every time I tried to read it, I got really anxious and sleepy. Being not-at-all a grown up, I just pretended I didn't see the insurance clause in the lease until my horrifying landlady forced the issue. PANIC! Then, I found Karrie Dubose. She made all my problems go away. Karrie listened to my freaked-out ranting for longer than anyone should be expected to. I had to transfer some renter insurance from a Washington, DC residence to my new Seattle apartment. I already had State Farm coverage in DC, and I gave Karrie a call, expecting the transfer to take a while.
