They don't put prices on many of their merchandise nor on the shelf where the merchandise is located. When you ask them why, they say they didn't have time. So you have to get to the register to find out what they've decided to charge you. :-( If you choose to shop here please check your receipt before you leave the store. I had a craving for unpackaged halvah like my dad used to buy for us on Sunday mornings. I saw this store on Yelp and went to see it. The owner was such a delightful man and he had the most delicious halvah. When I was in Iran 2 years ago, I had saffron ice cream and he had it in different sizes. It was such a great reminder of the kindness of the Iranian people that I had enjoyed. The food in Iran is absolutely wonderful and I will now be able to enjoy it here at home. I hope that more Americans visit this beautiful country when Covid is gone because the Iranian people are so welcoming. The art, architecture and the carpets are the most outstanding that I have seen in my well-traveled life. read more

This shop always has what my family is looking for, and the owner is very helpful and friendly. There is a great selection of spices, tea, candy, and their jarred sauces (especially the ghormeh sabzi) are very tasty for a pre-made sauce. You feel like home.. Let me start by saying that the owner is genuine and amazing person. I'm Persian/Turkish but have a very blended family. He greets and treats us like family! For example, after filling my basket once, I go to the counter and realize I brought the wrong wallet. Instead of going along with me wanting to drive a quick 5 minutes to my house, he refuses to. Instead he tells me to pay next time. No if and or buts about it. Who does that these days... I was living in pleasant hill and going to Sunnyvale market years ago. After being treated HORRIBLY by staff countless times during the years then topped off being sold old meat and imported sweets that I paid an arm and half a leg for, I decided to try Kasra. Although it is a smaller store, there was many quality and authentic items to choose from. There honestly has never been someone I wanted that he didnt have. A variety of cheeses, herbs, fresh baked breads (sangak I bought today was love) dry cured meats, halal meat, pastries, authentic marmalade etc.... I drove to this store for a couple of years from Pleasant hill and now live in Walnut creek and call this my local market. read more

I love this shop and I am especially appreciative during these difficult lockdown days of looking for items that are sold out, in shops where there are too many people and are health risks or at fancy chains that treat badly their employees. I always buy the canned chick beans because they are small and tender, the Sadaf white and red vinegars I cannot be without, the Paesano extra virgin organic olive oil, the Rodopa Bulgarian feta, the excellent Abali labneh, any flat bread that is there, and the selection is big! and last but not least I also get fresh or dry herbs...there is a huge selection. I mean, it's not the biggest Persian market around, but when you need some Doogh (Persian yogurt drink) or some Persian pickles right away this place will treat you right. I always feel like the prices are more expensive, even though they're not. The owner is nice enough and there are a lot of sweets. Nice to have a Persian market in Walnut Creek, but if you're looking for fresh Afghan bread you need to head to Concord. read more

I tried two of the Persian entrees to go, and have to give them a big thumbs up - they were both delicious! If you want to try authentic Persian food, please check out their selection of frozen entrees. I had ghormeh sabzi (beef stew with green herb and kidney beans), and an eggplant stew - so good, all of it. I warmed them up in a cast-iron skillet, and ate with freshly made basmati rice. Had several great meals out of them - will be back to try more! read more

This gets five stars for what it is, a Persian Supermarket. The prices are a little higher than bigger markets but that's part of the deal when you're independent. The store is extremely immaculate, shiny and clean (cleaner than any big chain market) and the owner is extremely helpful and friendly. It has an amazing selection of Persian products and foods especially for a neighborhood place. I live up the hill from this place and it is truly the dictionary definition of convenience! It also has a very nice selection of produce and vegetable leaves. In short, this is a one stop shop for almost everything you need to make the Persian dishes your mom made for you as a kid (provided your mom was Iranian, of course). I love this place, the owner is really nice and their sangak bread is always fresh and wonderful. If I had one tiny grievance, it's that they don't always carry what I'm looking for. The owner is definitely not to blame for that, I think it has more to do with the distribution, but if you find that you like a particular brand of something, it's not always consistent that they'll be carrying that brand all the time. But that's a minor issue. This place is really clean, the prices are good, and I love coming here! read more

They also offer pastries such as baklava and Napoleons, we are each is perfect for parties! They will come and encourage advanced orders for food and pastries. We wind up coming into the place a lot more than I would have expected. The staff are all really nice and helpful, and there's all kinds of yummy stuff. Especially great place to stock up on frozen meals (*hella* better than anything at TJs), and as others have pointed out, the sweets they have a great. They have this ghotab pastry that's the bomb if you like almonds and cardamom (note: vegan). They have frozen khofta in both beef and chicken. Really tasty. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5 is that you can't also do more run-of-the-mill grocery shopping while you're in there (no milk, for example). read more

A STORE WITH CHARACTER This place has a NYC bodega feel (without the grunge), and the owner is as nice as can be. I'm giving it 5 stars because it's a neighborhood gem, and I wish we had more little grocery stores like it. We go there every weekend to pick up tasty treats. Our favorites are the hummus varieties in the cold case, the crispy Athenian bread (giant cracker), and we never leave without a package of coconut macaroons. So good with coffee! We love going there! Lots of fun to browse the shelves and cold cases. It's small, but there is enough there to keep you coming back for more culinary discoveries. The spiffy check-out with email receipt delivery is a nice techie touch. We've lived in the Newell Ave neighborhood for 32 years and seen a lot of places come & go. But, this is a refreshing change from the manic vibe of Trader Joe's & Whole Foods. We like those too, but this place is calm & friendly. The Newell Hill parking lot is a little tight, so stay sharp. read more
