Amazing brewery. It's basically in a neighborhood. We arrived just moments after they opened and there wasn't anyone there but the owner. After serving us, she sat down and chatted. So many great stories. The beer is incredible. Not only do they have unique and quippy names (a huge plus to an English teacher) but they taste amazing. Great variety and flavor. I would suggest getting a sampler before diving into a specific beer. The inside seating area has about four tables. There is a cooler with bottled beer for purchase and lots of unique and fun merchandise. It is very clean and smells nice (like malt and yeast, which I happen to like). When we were there, the brewery was for sale and I'm not sure what has happened with that or if it will affect the future of the brewery. It is, however, definitely worth the visit! read more

If it feels like you're going to your Uncle's house that lives out in the country...you're on the right track. This brewery is, more or less, located in a neighborhood. The address is "Kenai", but it's closer to Nikiski. They have all the standard Kassik's beers on tap, as well as a handful of seasonals/one-off's not available in bottles. While we were there, it was an imperial honey wheat, a strong scotch ale, and a smoked porter. The guy working the counter was very kind, we got to talking and it turns out he is the brewer! He really knows his stuff. I used to be pretty into homebrewing, so we geeked out pretty heavily. They have free popcorn and outdoor seating, bring the dog. The brewery is squeaky-clean, as a brewery well should be. Definitely worth a stop if your travels take you north of Kenai. read more

I stopped by here yesterday afternoon by myself to try some beer. Kassicks is located down a dirt road in a somewhat remote area of AK near Kenai/Nikiski. Whenever my father and I pulled into the parking lot (he stayed in the car) we only saw one other car. Since it was 4 PM on a Wednesday that wasn't too surprising. The inside of this place was a taproom only with 3 high top tables, a counter to order your beer and a chalkboard menu with all of their beer selections. Through a door that said employees only was where the beer equipment and bathroom was and the area past the door certainly smelled of mash. While I was drinking my beers, I heard the owner (she was working the taproom) talk about how they built up the brewery and how it can be fun to run but that they are ready to sell after 12 years because they want to be closer to their children and grandchildren. So anyone that is interested can own the brewery, its name and all of the land and buildings associated with it. In any case, the owner here was very chatty but super nice and fun to everyone that came in. As I often do when visiting a new brewery, I asked if they had a sampler and they had both a 3 beer or 6 beer option. I chose the 6 beer option and ended up going with 3 originals: Orion's Quest Red, Pale Moon Ale, Morning Wood IPA and 3 seasonals: Big Nutz, Imperial Blonde and Russian Imperial Stout. All of the beers were pretty good representations of their types and out of the bunch I would have to pick the Russian imperial stout as much favorite. Coming in a close second was Morning Wood which not only had my favorite name but had that hoppiness that I love. As I was paying my check to leave, the owner asked me if I liked barley wine and I admitted that I did not really care for it. Even so she poured me a little taste of it. It surprised me at how smooth it was without that backend alcohol you normally get with beers that have that ABV. Still, I don't think it was for me as that is a beer that could be trouble. The bottom line for me is that I would head back to kassicks again in the future. I loved that the owner was so open and friendly and thought that the beer was pretty good as well. read more

I am not an IPA drinker, but Debra tried her best to help me become one! When we stopped in back in March, she talked us through the beers they had on tap, and, upon learning of my distaste for hoppy beers, promised me she'd show me how to drink an IPA and, if not like it, at least be able to finish the glass. She wasn't wholly successful, but I appreciate the effort, particularly since she did all of this for no fee. This place would be worth a stop for the fantastic beer, alone. Debra (and the liberal tasting menu and $9 growlers) up the ante and make it a must-see for any lover of Alaska's microbrew movement. read more

This is a brewery tucked away in Kenai that you must seek out. If you have a navigation system use it! The owners are friendly and will chat with you about their beer and anything else. You can sample beers as well and find one you like. I love the Roughneck Stout! Pick up a hoodie or tee as the different logos are pretty cool! A must see if in Kenai! read more

The people that work here are pretty cool. The have seasonal brews that are good. If your a beer person and plan on being in the area for a bit, get the growler! $15 refill and it's about 5 beers! And if they have get the Scott barrel age ale! read more

I've driven past the Kassiks Brewery sign at the turn off everyday for the last 1.5 years, always saying I would stop in sometime and have a beer. My in-laws are in town and wanted to have a cold one so we drove the extra few minutes out of our way; are we so glad we did! The owners are very friendly and they have some of the best tasting stouts if you enjoy that. There are many to choose from. Worth the drive. read more

I ventured back up to Kenai, Alaska for a family wedding recently. While we had a few minutes to spare we went and checked out Kassik's Brewery. I had heard about them and heard good things. We thought we'd take our Portland beer snobbery to small town Alaska and see what we found. And let me just say - wow! 1. They let you taste everything they're running on tap for free. No tasting fee and a huge sampling menu. 2. I liked everything I tasted. Everything from their IPA to their Stout was flavorful, unique, and contended right along with Portland brewery selections. 3. Their Oatmeal stout, which has over 7%, is thick, rich and creamy and extremely delicious. I enjoyed a pint of that after our tasting for only $4.50. I took a bottle of their Red to go - which was also flavorful, light and total yumz. 4. The tasting room is out of place and completely wonderful. Clean, industrial lines, open seating, and a group of locals will great you. 5. We met their brewer and he obviously loved what he was doing with Kassik's. He was friendly, informative, and casual - made us feel right at home. 6. There is nothing like this in the local area. So excited that the local brew movement is making it's way back to my home state. If, on the off chance, you're ever up in that neck of the (literal) woods, you MUST stop by. read more

After visiting more 30 breweries around the US in one year, 14 of which where in Alaska, this is still my absolute favorite! The beer is simply fantastic. The art work is both fun and entertaining. And the best part is how the brewery was established to begin with. If you ever make it out to Kassik's be sure to ask them how a brewery came to be in their front yard - literally!
